How To Make A Diagram From Data In A SQL Server Table?
Dec 19, 2005
Hi all,
I“m a real SQL rookie and after two days of intensive research and reading of dozens of articles and web pages a bit confused about all that knowledge concerning database technology ... and I only want to do something very easy ...
Now, my question is, how can I produce a diagram from that data, that is stored in a table, maybe called "DiagData1"?
I have installed SQL Server Express 2005 and Visual Basic Express 2005 and did some first steps with it as where shown in an brilliant tutorial that I“ve found on a Microsoft (?) webpage. It shows the complete way building a database and connecting it to a form which was build with Visual Basic. So all what is left is find out how the database tables are connected to a diagram.
I have a simple question but I'm having a really hard time finding an answer.
Let's say I'm designing a DTS package, and I have a connection to a SQL Server called ConnSQL. How do I reference this connection in my ActiveX script? (so I can run SQL queries and such)
I have created a database with several tables. I want to create a database diagram to show the relationshipbetween the tables. Below are the steps from the SQL Server 2005 documentation on how to create a database diagram. The problem is that when I right click on the Database Diagrams folder I am only given two options. They are:"Working with SQL Server diagrams" and "Refresh"There is no menu choice to create a new database diagram. Can anyone tell me what the problem here is?
To create a new database diagramIn Object Explorer, right-click the Database Diagrams folder or any diagram in that folder. Choose New Database Diagram on the shortcut menu. The Add Table dialog box appears. Select the required tables in the Tables list and click Add. The tables are displayed graphically in the new database diagram.
I want to take a table (SQL server) and show all it's data in a form of INSERT... (text file) so that I can show it on a web-page and just paste the INSERT text into a MyTableData.sql and then I can just run this script on the Query analyzer and fill my table with data
I need it so I can backup my DATA both in English and other languages... (a replacement for the DTS packages that gives me hard time with the LOCALE / UNICODE translation)
did anyone already made such program ? where can I find something like this ?
Hello: I have an old database created in SQL Server 2000, now I can open, access it in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio, but I can't create Data Diagrams. Please advise on how to make it work.... Thank you
1)I created a linked server to a oracle database, works fine. Now I am writing queries, using "Query Desgner", when I do a "Add table" linked server tables do not appear. Is this a limitation. I can get around the problem by creating a view.
2) When I use "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" for linked server, some times connection seems to get lost. On one occassion, the next day it was fine, it re-established itself.
I transferred data from Oracle to sql server 2005. Now what i want is to make data in the tables case-sensitive .(it has to be data inside the tables only and not table and column names). what i tried is :
alter database test collate Latin1_General_CS_AS
But to my horror it made the tables name case-sensitive . Plz help me out asap.
Hi I need to do UML Data Diagram . I have Database tables available and for my task i need to pull data from those tables ,i need to expres this through UML Data diagram . I never did UML Data Diagram ,Can anyone pls tell me how to do UML Data Diagram? How it wil be?
I have a case study requesting to create an ER diagram, with the attributes listed in each entity. The data I have is an Excel Spreadsheet listing:
CustomerName PurchaseDate Destination Airline Flight# departDate DapartTime ArriveTime Hotel CheckIn CheckOut Car Rental Pickup Return
The case is related to travel agency that specializes in booking interesting vacations for people who are single. Note that the travellers have a variety of travel bookings: some may rent a car and drive to the hotel at their destination, others may be staying with friends or relatives at their destination, while others will need flights, hotel and car rentals in their booking.
creation of the Tables and their attributes to Normalize the model to 3NF.
When I try to create a new diagram it sends me an error message:
Server Name: TICSQLEXPRESS Error Number: 207 Severity: 16 State: 1 Procedure: sp_upgraddiagrams Line Number: 55
Invalid column name 'uvalue'. Invalid column name 'uvalue'. Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.sp_upgraddiagrams'. Object is invalid. Extended properties are not permitted on 'dbo.sysdiagrams', or the object does not exist. Object is invalid. Extended properties are not permitted on 'dbo.sp_upgraddiagrams', or the object does not exist. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
i have a table inwhich there are three columns heading1, heading2, heading3...now this table is linked to a tree table which has columns headingid, headingname, and parentid
The link between the table1 and table 2 be heading1 = headingid OR heading2= headingid OR heading3= headingid
is there a way I can show this on my database diagram??? (I know this is against normalisation, but the database was written by someone else...)
I'm using Sql Server 2012 Enterprise and have a database with over 400 tables. I am looking at one diagram which contains about 20 (or so) tables and their relationships. When I right-click on a relationship line I only see information about which tables are connected on that line but not on which fields.Ā Can I get that information from the Diagram or can I only get that from the sys tables?
What do you use to check the data structure at a source database? For instance, i've got a database which i can connect to using the ODBC (ado.net) connection in SSIS. To get a better understanding on the data and the relationships in the tables i would like to get a database diagram (ERD) of the source DB. Also i would like to be able to import this diagram into SQL server in the database diagram section when i'm going to load this data into a DWH. Any tips or free toolsĀ on better understanding the structure of an external source DB?
I am counting order type by a field which can have 3 different values. In a stacked column chart I am displaying the count of those different values, and showing a data label with the count for each order type. See screenshot.
Now I would like to show a line based on the total of each order type. I can see that SSRS already know the number of each order type as it is shown in the labels.
How do I add those numbers (shown in the labels) together and get it into a Total field? I would prefer not to alter my SQL query, if possible.
String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) Hi i am getting the above error when i add a table to my Diagram, it happens inside VS05 (server explorer) as well as in SQL Express Server management studio CTP the thing that is weird is that both tables are fine before i add the realtionship, both the Primary Key and the Foreign Key has the same data type which is Int. i am able to add the relationships but when i go to save the relationship diagram i get that above error i believe that this error is caused when u try and insert data into a column that is larger that the column size, but in this case all am doing is creating a relation ship between the primary key in one table and a foreign key in the second table. ie i am not inserting data into either table I looked at the size property of both columns under questions and both reflect a size of 4, I think that is 4 bytes of size, so my question becomes is there any other place where the size of a column field is specified, stumped, thanks in advance,
I recently updated the datatype of a sproc parameter from bit to tinyint. When I executed the sproc with the updated parameters the sproc appeared to succeed and returned "1 row(s) affected" in the console. However, the update triggered by the sproc did not actually work.
The table column was a bit which only allows 0 or 1 and the sproc was passing a value of 2 so the table was rejecting this value. However, the sproc did not return an error and appeared to return success. So is there a way to configure the database or sproc to return an error message when this type of error occurs?
Hi All, Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I have a current table which I create on a regular basis from a text file with a layout similar to this: TypePolicy #AmountRider 1 AmtRider 2 Amt B1112H24.341212.34
This text file is brought into a staging table with each field (even the amount field) as a varchar (12). I then assign types in a later step in my DTS package.
What I need to do is stack the riders under each policy so for each policy where there is a rider, there is a new row for every rider. So in the example I've given, there would be 2 additional rows for the original first row since there are two riders. TypePolicy #Amount B1112H24.34 R11112H12 R21112H12.34
I plan on doing this by first creating a table with just the Type, Policy #, and Amt fields, and then using a series of insert queries where I take the rider (if there is one) and append it onto the table.
However, I'm getting the following error message when I try: Server: Msg 213, Level 16, State 4, Line 1 Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.
Basically, it wouldn't let me put an 'R1' in the Type column. How can I get this to work!?!?
I want to use a Make Table Query to generate a new read-only Table. This I can do but my problem is that I want to be able to name the new Table containing only the records from a calendar year; e.y. Rents2001 and the next year another new table would be created and called Rents2002 and next year Rents2003 ...............
I require the Table to be generated yearly. I know I could do this in other ways but I really require the Table as once I have it I will be doing other things with it to give the final report.
Any suggestions how I can generate the Table with the YEAR being in the Table Name as part of running the Make Table Query? Thanks
For some reason, when I try to access a database diagram on our new 2005 SQL Server, I get the following error msg: "Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner" It then goes on to instruct me to either use Properties > Files or ALTER AUTHORIZATION to change the database owner. Well, I've done that - and it clearly shows that there is an owner of the database, but even if I log in as that owner, the error msg continues to come up everytime I try to access Diagrams. I found a post to run the following stored procedure which will set the sql server compatability level: EXEC sp_dbcmptlevel database_name, 90 After running that in the query window of Management Stduio, I get the following msg below on the Messages tab: "DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator." I then try to create a new diagram again, and I get the same initial error (at the top of this post). What do I need to do in order to create a DB diagram?
I have a good size database (113 tables & views, each with an average of ~15 columns). I'd like to use SQL Server 2005 to create a basic table-layout diagram with fields for the DB, and then move that diagram to Visio or similar (even a bitmap) for additional annotations and updates. What I've seen so far with the tool that comes with SQL Server is that it's about good enough to do the initial generation and save me the work of having to type out the ~1600+ fields plus the relationships, but would be clumsy to use after that.
Unfortunately, so far I haven't seen a way to do any kind of export. It doesn't even want to let me print it (though it will, oddly, layout page-breaks for me). I'm currently using SSMS Standard edition (not express, but not pro either), so if that's the problem we do have a pro liscense for only one of the users here- I might be able to get him to do the export for me.
Hi,I have to prepare an ER diagram for the objects in my SQL Serverdatabase. I have used the option "DIAGRAMS" in EnterPrise Manager ofSQL Server 2000. It is creating the diagram for the selected tables(but the diagram contains only the table which i have selected. It isnot displaying its depended tables). But i am not able to export it toany of the flat file like MS WORD or paint. I want this diagram to beuploaded to one Flat file and send to my customer for his reference.Could anyone suggest me how to create the ER Diagram for the SQL 2000database and export it to a flat file. Thanks for your help in advance.-Rao
What is the best way (short of backing up the entire DB) to make a copy of a Table so that It can be easily restored. We have a table that we want to make some serious changes to, but I want to make sure I can restore if if I need to (if the changes don't work)
In my application i need to access mutiple table. I'm writing a stored procedure in which i need to access tables such as TB01,TB02 .. Basically TBFY where FY is parameter.
I tried for OPENQUERY, but that needs me to add a linked server, which i don't think is a good idea.
Hi, I was looking for system databases diagram(poster). If any one has this could you please point me to the URL where i can find it!! Thanks in advance.
I am getting following error when I try to create the 1st diagram for my existing database in SQL server management studio .Ā I am using sql server 2008 express. Operating system is Vista basic home. Ā I was able to get past the "no valid owner error" problem by using the ALTER PROCEDURE; now I have the following: Invalid column name 'uvalue'.Invalid column name 'uvalue'.Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.sp_upgraddiagrams'.Object is invalid. Extended properties are not permitted on 'dbo.sysdiagrams', or the object does not exist.Object is invalid.
