How To Remove Rows Where Only Part Of The Row Is Duplicated

Feb 2, 2007

Hi,

I've got a db table containing 5 columns(excluding id) consisting of
1.) First Half of a UK postcode
2.) Town name to which postcode belongs
3.) Latitude of Postcode
4.) Longitude of Postcode
5.) Second Part of the Postcode

I want to select columns 1,2,3 and 4, but once only. There are often
several entries where 1 and 2 are the same but 3 and 4 are different
i.e.
WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.386492-2.596847
WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.388203-2.590961
WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.388875-2.598504
WA1Fairfield and Howley53.388455-2.581701
WA1Fairfield and Howley53.396117-2.571789

My current query is
SELECT DISTINCT Postcode, Town, latitude, longitude
FROM Postcode
WHERE Postcode.Postcode = 'wa1'
ORDER BY Postcode, Town

However as latitude and longitude differ on each line DISTINCT does
not do what I'm looking for.
Can anybody suggest a way changing the query to just give the first
instance of each Postcode/Town combo?
I.E.
WA1Bewsey and Whitecross53.386492-2.596847
WA1Fairfield and Howley53.388455-2.581701

Many thanks!
Drew

Duplicated Rows

Oct 31, 2006

Hi,

I have just started developing in SQL Express in the last 2 months so still learning. The problem I€™m having with my stored procedure is that I get duplicate rows in my results. The row is a duplicate in terms of column 'Job No' as when the query runs in access only one instance of each 'Job No' is returned but when I recreate the query in SQL server I get a number of rows back for the same 'Job No'? How would I go about getting just 1 instance of each 'Job No' back? With column 'Days to Date' showing the total 'Days to Date' for each Job No. Please see Ms Access results if unsure of what I€™m asking.

A copy of the stored procedure is below and a sample of the out-put with Ms Access results at very bottom.

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sl_DaysDonePerJob] AS

SELECT CASE WHEN [Job No] IS NULL THEN '' ELSE [Job No] END AS [Job No], SUM([Actual Days]) AS [Days to Date], CONVERT(nvarchar(10),MIN(SessionDate),101) AS [Start Date],

CONVERT(nvarchar(10),MAX(SessionDate),101) AS [End Date],

MAX(CASE WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=1 THEN 'Jan'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=2 THEN 'Feb'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=3 THEN 'Mar'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=4 THEN 'Apr'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=5 THEN 'May'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=6 THEN 'Jun'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=7 THEN 'Jul'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=8 THEN 'Aug'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=9 THEN 'Sep'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=10 THEN 'Oct'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=11 THEN 'Nov'

WHEN DATEPART(MM,SessionDate)=12 THEN 'Dec' END) AS 'End Month'

FROM Sessions

GROUP BY [Job No], Sessions.SessionDate

ORDER BY [Job No]

Results in SQL Server Express

'Job No' 'DaystoDate' 'Start Date' 'End Date' 'End Month'

Hi guys,
need some help here please...

The code below shows 4 rows.
The first two rows are almost identical, but the two of them exists in the same table as different rows.
Row number 1 is also related to Row number 3 and Row number 2 is also related to Row number 4
The problem is that I have to use only one of then (Rows number 1 or 2) togheter with row 3 & 4.

I thought using GROUP BY RECEIPTJURNALMATCH.JURNALTRANSID, but getting error.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Rows Into Columns - Remove Duplicates And Variable Rows

Aug 5, 2014

I managed to transpose rows into columns.

;WITH
ctePreAgg AS
(
select top 500 act_reference "ActivityRef",
row_number() over (partition by act_reference order by act_reference) as rowno,
t3.s_initials "Initials"
from mytablestuff
order by act_reference

[code]...

But what I would love to do next is take each of the above rows - and return the initials either in one column with all the nulls and duplicate values removed, separated by a comma ..

ref, initials
Ag-4xYS
Ag-6xYS,BL
Ap-1xKW
At-2x SAS,CW
At-3x SAS,CW

OR the above but using variable number of columns based on the maximum number of different initials for each row.this is not strictly required, but maybe neater for further work on the view

ref, init1,init2
Ag-4xYS
Ag-6xYS,BL
Ap-1xKW
At-2x SAS,CW
At-3x SAS,CW

Remove Rows Repeating More Than Twice

Nov 29, 2007

Ok, so I've been racking my brains on this one for a while now and figured it was time to ask for some help...

I have a table named tblAppInfo that looks something like this:

Code Block
user_name app_name app_ver

User1 MS Word 2000
User2 MS Word 2000
User3 MS Excel 2000
User4 MS Excel 2000
User5 MS Excel 2000
User6 MS Excel 2000
User7 MS Outlook 2000
User8 MS PowerPoint 2000
User9 Adobe Acrobat 5.0
User10 Adobe Acrobat 6.0
User11 Adobe Acrobat 7.0

What I want to do is remove any rows that repeat the app_name and app_ver more than twice. Basically in the example above, it would remove the lines that have MS Excel 2000 (as it's listed 4 times). MS Word 2000 would stay as it's only listed twice. As would Outlook and PowerPoint. All 3 Adobe's would also stay as their versions are different.

I've tried the following but it still repeats applications that occur more than twice:

Code BlockSELECT user_name, app_name, app_ver
FROM tblAppInfo
GROUP BY app_name, app_ver, user_name
having count(distinct app_name + app_ver + tblAppInfo.host_name) < 3
ORDER BY app_name, app_ver

I've also tried using nested select statements and everything else in my arsenal to no avail. I hope someone here will be able to help me out as I'm afraid I'll go bald if I try anymore!

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Transform To Remove Rows From Data Set A That Match Rows In Data Set B On A Given Key?

Jun 28, 2006

Hi,

I have a common requirement in numerous SSIS processes to take my main input data set and to remove all rows from it that match a second input data set on a given key and output this as the main output. I also want to output (as a second output) all the rows from the main input data set that did match on the given key. However, I don't want to merge in data from the second input, nor am I interested in rows from the second input data set that have no match in the main input.

E.g. If I have the following data:

Main input:
Key Name
--- ----
1 Steve
2 Jamie
3 Donald

Second Input
Key DontCareAboutThisField1
--- -----------------------
1 ...
3 ...
4 ...

Then I would like the following output:

Main Output
Key Name
--- ----
2 Jamie

Second Output
Key Name
--- ----
1 Steve
3 Donald

Can I do this with a standard transform, or will I have to write my own? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Lawrie

Web Part Deserialization Error When Trying To Change Report Viewer Web Part Programmatically.

I have SSRS 2005 SP2 configured to work in Sharepoint integration. Everything works fine except that I am not able to programmatically change any property of report viewer web part (instance) that I have added on on home page of my sharepoint site.
I can do same thing via sharepoint UI but not through program. When my programs runs it fetches all web parts been added on home page, then I need to iterate through each one and find report viewer web part.
While iterating, as soon as I arrive to report viewer web part it is named as "Error web part" with error message as
"Windows SharePoint Services cannot deserialize the Web Part. Check the format of the properties and try again"

If someone has a solution, please respond at your earlist.

Thanks

Shankar
