Insert Information And To Database And Retrieve The ID Created For That Row Of Data In The Table
May 4, 2007
Hi,
I am working on inserting information into a DB and then retrieving the ID created for that Data to use elsewhere in my code. I have the code below but I do not know how to get toOutput parameter. Can anyone please help?
SO when i try to load from Master table to parent and child table i am using using expresssion like
select B.ID,A.* FROM FLATFILE_INVENTORY AS A JOIN DMS_INVENTORY AS B ON A.ACDealerID=B.DMSDEALERID AND A.StockNumber=B.STOCKNUMBER AND A.InventoryDate=B.INVENTORYDATE AND A.VehicleVIN=B.VEHICLEVIN WHERE convert(date,A.[FtpDate]) = convert(date,GETDATE()) and convert(date,B.Ftpdate) = convert(date,getdate()) ;
If i use this Expression i am getting the current system date data's only from Master table to parent and child tables.
My Problem is If i do this in my local sserver using the above Expression if i loaded today date and if need to load yesterday date i can change my system date to yesterday date and i can run this Expression.so that yeserday date data alone will get loaded from Master to parent and child tables.
If i run this expression to remote server i cannot change the system date in server.
while using this Expression for current date its loads perfectly but when i try to load yesterday data it takes current date date only not the yesterday date data.
What is the Expression on which ever date i am trying load in the master table same date need to loaded in Parent and child table without changing the system Date.
If I had a bunch of paragraphs stored in a database field, is there a way, when displaying that data, that I can write instructions to only retrieve the very first paragraph?
Hi, I'm getting this error [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not retrieve replication information for table 735393739. Verify that the table has a primary key, and then rerun the Log Reader Agent.Please help me!
Till recently we were using the following code to retreive schema information of columns of tables
Dim schemaTable = connection.GetOleDbSchemaTable( _ System.Data.OleDb.OleDbSchemaGuid.Columns, _ New Object() {Nothing, Nothing, tableName, Nothing})
Now instead of getting the name of table (which i was using as param for filtering) i'm going to receive a sql-query. Now my question is if I were to get a query like the following :
I am trying to set up a data flow task. The source is "SQL Command" which is a stored procedure. The proc has a few temp tables that it outputs the final resultset from. When I hit preview in the ole db source editor, I see the right output. When I select the "Columns" tab on the right, the "Available External Column List" is empty. Why don't the column names appear? What is the work around to get the column mappings to work b/w source and destination in this scenario.
In DTS previously, you could "fool" the package by first compiling the stored procedure with hardcoded column names and dummy values, creating and saving the package and finally changing the procedure back to the actual output. As long as the columns remained the same, all would work. Thats not working for me in SSIS.
I am using C# in Visual Studio 2008 and remote database as sql server 2008 R2. I want to read remote database table's field value and i have to move that read value to string variable. how to do it.
And my code is :
string sql = "Select fldinput from tmessage_temp where fldTo=IDENT_CURRENT('tmessage_temp')"; SqlCommand exesql = new SqlCommand(sql, cn); exesql.CommandType = CommandType.Text; SqlDataReader rd1 = default(SqlDataReader); rd1 = exesql.ExecuteReader();
I have created a table Table with name as Varchar and id as int. Now i have started inserting the rows like, insert into Table values ('arun',20).Yes i have inserted a row in the table. Now i have got the values " arun's ", 50. insert into Table values('arun's',20) My sqlserver is giving me an error instead of inserting the row. How will you solve this problem?
I actually work in an organisation and we have to find a solution about the data consistancy in the database. our partners use to send details to the organisation and inserted directly in the database, so we want to create a new database as a buffer database to insert informations from the partners then make an update to the main database. is there a better solution instead of that?
why my insert or into is not working in my SQL Server R2 2008. I have a code I am using on an existing table and trying to put the data in a brand new table but it keeps giving me an error
select mCid, caucasian, aa, api, aian, mr, his, max(val) into memberrand from MEMBERV2_RAND cross apply ( select AA union all select API union all select AIAN union all select MR union all select HIS union all select CAUCASIAN ) v(val)
group by mCid, AA, API, AIAN, MR, HIS, caucasian ;
The error is: Msg 1038, Level 15, State 5, Line 1..An object or column name is missing or empty. For SELECT INTO statements, verify each column has a name. For other statements, look for empty alias names. Aliases defined as "" or [] are not allowed. Change the alias to a valid name.Do I have to actually create this table with no values first and then run the query? I was hoping this was sort of a make a table query
I want to use sql server as a back end for my asp.net shopping cart using vb.net..i have created an "news.mdf" under app_data folder of my website in visual studio2010...but i tried to connect it to database using below command...but showing error...
I have a primary key named pk, name and surname fields. I need to insert to my table names and surnames.
INSERT INTO People (name,surname) VALUES ('john','black');
I'm not giving pks database gives is auto. But my problem is i need to know the pk that my database gave. Because i have lots of duplicate records. Is there any way to retrieve pk while inserting to table.
Hi everyone. Does anyone know if you can retrieve truncated data from a BULK INSERT operation?
We have a file that needs to be inserted into a SQL Server Database. There is a field that has a maximum of 8000 characters, but some times users submit files that have more than that. We need to be able to capture the truncated data. The BULK INSERT operation does not throw an error. The only way I can think of to get the data is if I bulk insert the data into a temporary table with a memo field and then copy it over, but that may really slow down the SP.
Has anyone encountered this situation before? I also have the option of parsing the file in .NET.
It seems to me that files created on Unix machines with line terminator , or chr(10), cannot be imported using the Bulk Insert statement. Is this a bug, or an oversight by Microsoft? Does this mean that unless one replaces all with , there is no way to use Bulk Insert to import Unix files? This is a very strange behavior by MSSQL. Even lessor programs such as Excel and Word automatically recognize chr(10) as a line termination character. Am I missing something, or is this just the way MSSQL is?
I have two SQL Express database and I want to do two things. One is to transfer a table over to the other database. Two, move the files from one table in one database to another. Please let me know when you get a chance.
I have a report and it retrieves information from an etl logging table which contains this info: etl_process_name, active_since_date, last_run_date.
When the packages are executing, the table cant be queried because it is in a transaction. Therefore the report keeps generating :s The thing I want is that: If I query that table (with the report to show the logging table information) and the packages are executing, I want to see the values of the table before the transaction.
What I tried: From sql management studio:
ALTER DATABASE MyDataBase SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON set transaction isolation level snapshot go SELECT etl_process, last_run, active_since FROM config.etl_settings
I did this while the packages were executing and it works but it won't work when I execute the same SELECT statement from the Dataset in the report. How is that possible? Does it have something to do with setting the database options for all users?
Additional info: I'm database owner The report solution has a shared datasource which refers to the same database
Hi, all.. I want to know the query to retrieve Column information that we can see from table Design view of Enterprise manager, such as Column name, Pk or not, FK table, Data Type, Null or not, Description(Specially Descrition).
I have two databases in SQL Server and they both have almost the same tables. I want to insert the data of a table from the first database into a table with the same name, but from the second database. How can i do this?
Hello. As the subject heading says, I'm not able to insert data typed into the contact form on my page into a database table. I'm using an SqlDataSource object. Here's the code for this page:

I need to Insert the XML File data into SQL SERVER 2005 db(table). For that I created the table with XML Native column (using typed xml) *********************************create table command************ CREATE TABLE XmlCatalog ( ID INT PRIMARY KEY, Document XML(CONTENT xyz)) *********************************** In order to Create the table with typed xml ,before that we have to create the xml schema which i mentioned below ************************************create schema command******** CREATE XML SCHEMA COLLECTION xyz AS 'Place xml schema file ’ ************************************ I created the xml schema file by using the xmlspy software.
--------------------------Insert command--------- INSERT into XmlCatalog VALUES (1,'copy xml file ‘) ------------------------------- I need to retrieve the xml data from the table ------------select query---------- SELECT Document.query (‘data (/X12//UserId)') AS USERID, Document.query (‘data (/X12/X12_Q1/header/ISA//ISA_Authorization_Information_Qualifier)') AS ISA_Authorization_Information from XmlCatalog. -----------------
I Need to update/insert/delete the xml data in the table
Can you please suggest the procedure to implement the above requirement(insert/update/delete)
I took our SYBASE DDL and created the tables on an SQL Server Express datbase on a PC and then downloaded our data from UNIIX using the WinSCP utility and BULK Inserted the data into the SQL Server database and everything uploaded fine apparently, but when we go to use the data we are getting some data differences.
Do you know of any data conversion issues that may be coming into play here maybe?
Hello, I need to retrieve all the information about all the foreign key constraints,inorder to store them temporarily (to be deleted later)and then recreated after making the necessary modifications to the concerned tables. The stored proc sp_helpconstraint shows all the constraint types, their user-defined or system-supplied name, the columns on which they have been defined, and the expression that defines them.But I don't know whether it can be manipulated to get what I want.I need to get it done programmatically..so that I can integrate it in my program which I'm building up progressively. Any help or scripts would be appreciated!
I am in process of transfering data from Sybase to Sql Server using SSIS 2005
have taken a Data Flow Task in Control Flow tab
In Data flow tab, I have taken one Ole DB Source and One OLe DB Destination
For the source, I am using Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere Provider 8.0
For Destination, I am using Sql Server 2005 database
In Ole Db Source Editor , For OLe Db Connection Manager, I choose Sybase Connection For Data access mode, I choose Table or View For Name of the table or the view, I choose a table by name Table1( it lists all the tables from Sybase database)
When i click on preview button or Columns link, I get the following Error
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Unable to retrieve column information from the data source. Make sure your target table in the database is available.
I would like to know how to (if it is at all possible) in SQL (or even ADO) to retrieve all the data concerning database X's
a) Tables b) Tables column names c) Tables column's data types
I don't want to use the doa.tabledefs object.. .i would prefer to do it in SQL, but using ADO objects (since I am developing stuff in VB) would be ok too.
Please Help.. i have been going crazy trying to find anything useful.. email me back please!
trying to get a new database created then running a script to created the tables, relationships, indexes and insert default data. All this I'm making happen during the installation of my Windows application. I'm installing SQL 2012 Express as a prerequisite of my application and then opening a connection to that installed SQL Server using Windows Authentication.
E.g.: Data Source=ComputerNameSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=master;Integrated Security=SSPI; Then I run a query from my code to create the database eg: "CREATE DATABASE [MyDatabaseName]".
From this point I run a script using a Batch file containing "SQLCMD....... Myscriptname.sql". In my script I have my tables being created using "Use [MyDatabaseName] Go CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MyTableName] .....". So question is, should I have [dbo]. as part of my Create Table T-SQL commands? Can I remove "[dbo]."? Who would be the owner of the database? If I can remove the [dbo]., should I also remove dbo. from any query string from within my code?
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'tab_db1'The above query will give the information of the table 'tab_db1' if it is available in the current database (say db1) connected.How can i access the information of a table (say 'tab_db2') which is created under a different database say db2 from the current db connected say db1.I tried the above query with changing the table_name to 'db2..tab_db2'but went invain.sysobjects also dint work..Any help on this will be appreciated..regards,Sathya V
I use below trigger to email me when a database is created or dropped.
CREATE TRIGGER [DDL_CREATE_DATABASE_EVENT] ON ALL SERVER FOR CREATE_DATABASE AS DECLARE @bd VARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @tsql VARCHAR(MAX) SET @tsql = EVENTDATA().value
[Code] ...
Is there a way we can get notification when a table is created or altered or dropped ?
I'm new to SQL Server 2005 SSIS. I'm trying to do something very simple, but I cannot figure it out, PLEASE HELP!
I have a flat file, which I read and then insert the data in a database table, that works fine. The problem is that I don't want to insert duplicate records. For example; if I run the package again, it will appent to the table. What I need to do is that if the package runs again, check if the record already exist, based one two columns, date and hour, and do not insert the record.
I am having a big problem, trying to create datebase. I have 3 tables: SUPERAVATAR, MASTERAVATAR, MEGAAVATAR. - SuperAvatars are heroes in an online role playing gaming. They have an ID, ‘superavatarID’ which contain an UNIQUE NUMBER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY to identify them. A wisdom – ‘trickster’,’conjuror’,’magician’, etc.. A current owner… who is the user or player of the game and has that Super Avatar– we associate the link to USERID to know the person. SuperAvatars can be fathers or mothers of Mega Avatars. -MegaAvatars are the children of SuperAvatars…. They also have an ID UNIQUE NUMBER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY to indentify them. A magic power – it can be a ‘Leader’ or ‘Sheep’… A ‘parent’ – parent is the number identifying to know to who Super Avatar belongs. e.g. SUPERAVAT WISD CURRENTOWNER FATHEROF MOTHEROF 1 Thick 3 1 2 Mentally Ch. 11 3 3 Smart 9 2 4 Genius 16 4 5 Thick 19
-We see that MEGAAVATAR 1 has a magic power as Magician and his father is ‘1’. ‘1’ identifies the SUPERAVATAR. We see SUPERAVATARID…. who has the number ‘1’? the first in the row… who has wisdom – thick and he belongs to the USER with ID number 3. -We see MEGAAVATARID… we choose the number 2…. His magic power is as WIZARD… and his father is the number 3. We see SUPERAVATARID now… we look up the SuperavatarID 3…. We can see he has a wisdom – GENIUS… who belongs to the USERID 16 and he is father of MEGAAVATAR number 2. The list can carry on and never stop.
I have this Problems: We create in this example 3 tables: Users, SuperAvatar, MegaAvatar
SQL CREATE TABLE users(userID NUMBER CONSTRAINT pk_user PRIMARY KEY,email VARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL UNIQUE,password VARCHAR2(15) NOT NULL UNIQUE,subscription CHAR(8) NOT NULL CHECK (subscription IN('ACTIVE' , 'INACTIVE' ) ) );
CREATE TABLE superavatar(superavatarID NUMBER CONSTRAINT pk_superavatar PRIMARY KEY, wisdom VARCHAR2(19) NOT NULL CHECK (wisdom IN ('THICK', 'MENTALLY CHALLENGED', 'AWAKE', 'SMART', 'GENIUS')), currentOwner NUMBER NOT NULL, fatherOf NUMBER,motherOf NUMBER);
CREATE TABLE megaavatar (megaavatarID NUMBER CONSTRAINT pk_megaavatar PRIMARY KEY, magicPower VARCHAR2(12) NOT NULL CHECK (magicPower IN('TRICKSTER','CONJUROR','MAGICIAN','WIZARD','SORCERER')), parent NUMBER);
Now, the 3 tables are created….. What happen when we try to insert values to this table? In this case we insert to User Table some examples: INSERT INTO users VALUES('3','john@hotmail.com','great78','ACTIVE'); INSERT INTO users VALUES('9','chrisandsandra@gmail.com','chrisandra)','ACTIVE'); Now, we insert to SuperAvatar some examples; INSERT INTO superavatar VALUES('1','THICK','3','1',''); INSERT INTO superavatar VALUES('3','SMART','9','3',''); | | ‘9’ is the UserID that we already insert to the User table What’s the problem? We have to insert manually the data from USERID to CURRENTOWNER as we didn’t match or link CURRENTOWNER from SUPERAVATAR Table to USERID from USER Table with a SQL CODE. What happen if we have thousands of USERS that they register to this game…? We will never know to how belongs that SUPERAVATAR but if someone do it manually can spend a year.
I am trying to fix this problem …. I add in SUPERAVATAR TABLE ‘CHECK’ in currentOwner..
SQL> CREATE TABLE superavatar (superavatarID NUMBER CONSTRAINT pk_superavatar PRIMARY KEY, wisdom VARCHAR2(19) NOT NULL CHECK (wisdom IN ('THICK', 'MENTALLY CHALLENGED', 'AWAKE', 'SMART', 'GENIUS')), currentOwner NUMBER NOT NULL CHECK (currentOwner IN(SELECT userID FROM users)), fatherOf NUMBER, motherOf NUMBER); * ERROR: ORA-02251: subquery not allowed here
