I need to store images in MS SQL. I have the upload procedures and stuff but I'm missing the point about the image data type size.
It is supposed to be able to store up to 2Gb!!! but when I declare the data field image I can't specify the max size for the field and by default is 16 !!
16 bytes!! what can I do with that? How can I insert a file?
I'm using ODBC to interface a Microsoft SQL Server 2000. One of theoperations involves placing files within BLOBs. I'm using the imagedata type for this purpose. Most of the time this works okey, but whentrying to add a 21,3 MB file I get an error. The error code is 22001,which means "String right-truncation". But why? Does this mean thatthe field cannot accepts BLOBs with this size?
First I recieve this error when I upload a photo and click on the save button. 'ODBC - update on a linked table 'PersonMisc' failed.'
Then this error appears after I click ok.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] The READTEXT and WRITETEXT statements cannot be used with views[#285][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Warning: Partial insert/update The insert/update of a text or image did not succeed.[#0].
Is there a size limit on the pictures I am uploading?
I created a table with image datatype on one of the columns. Inserted records in all the columns, but image column. Need to update the image column with .gif file. How could i insert .gif file in the column in SQL Server 7.0? Thanks Hemant Trivedi
Hi, I have a problem importing data from SQL Server 2000 'text' columns to SQL Server 2005 nvarchar(max) columns. I get the following error when encountering a transfer of any column that matches the above. The error is copied below,
Any help on this greatly appreciated...

I have a string stored in a column of type image that I need to do string operations with in order to decode the containing infomation.
data [image] = 0x07FD0707FD0102F001000054004C005300410000000054004C00530041000000FF...
I can't cast or convert to nvarchar(max), varchar(max) as I always get an error. Explicit conversion from data type image to varchar(max) is not allowed.
I tried CONVERT(VARCHAR(MAX), CONVERT(VARBINARY(MAX), DATA))
Which doesn't throw an error but seems to interprete the hexadecimal code to ascii characters and therefore is useless (ýýð...)
so i have a table with 25million rows. this table has an image data type column and i want to set this column to null. what is the most efficient way to archive my goal. SQL SERVER 2008

I have inherited a VS 2005 database with a table that has a column of type IMAGE. I need to change the image for one of the rows in the table. I have the new image in a *.PNG file on my C: drive. What is the correct method for inserting this file into the IMAGE column.
I am new to triggers and surely could use some help.
I can create a trigger to insert related records based on the main tables ID and insert that value into other related tables fine... but...
How do I create a trigger that can insert a record into one table for a columns given value and then insert a record into another table for another given value?
For instance: New row...
Table1, Column1 (PK) has a value of 101 Table1, Column2 has a value of 'Blue'.
// When a new row is created in Table1 and Column2 has a value of 'Blue'... I want to insert a new row into Table2 - with Table1 Column1's value.
// Now if Table1, Column2 has a value of 'Red' when the new row was created... I want to insert a new row into Table3 - with Table1 Column1's value. Not Table2
This has to be inserted into one or the other tables based on column2's value, not both. Then I want to populate the other related tables (Table4, Table5) with the regular insert statements based on Table1 Column1's value.
This (the conditional part above) has to work with an update to Table1 also. So if someone came back to that record and changed Column2's value from 'Blue' to 'Red', it would have to delete the appropriate record in Table2 and then insert the new row into Table3 and visa-versa.
Hello there,I have and small excel file, which when I try to import into SQlServer will give an error "Data for source column 4 is too large forthe specified buffer size"I have four columns in the excel file, one of the column contains alarge chunk of data so I created a table in SQL Server and changed thetype of the field to text so I could accomodate this field but stillno luck.Any suggestions as to how to go about this. Thanks in advance,Srikanth pai
ListsUsers ListID int - FK to List Table - Combo PK UserID int - FK to EmailUsers Table - Combo PK
When a person adds a user I need to: A. insert them as a new entry into EmailUsers - no problem B. insert their EmailUsers.ID from step A and ListID (passed in parameter) into ListsUsers - not so easy C. if they're already in EmailUsers don't insert them but pass their existing EmailUsers.ID to part B
Any thoughts or examples I can follow? Maybe it's easier to do two seperate queries and control the if exists logic in asp.net?
hello,I have a little (big?) problem with a software in ASP / SQL Server.This is a demo of the problem:ID= 12458 Data=21/01/2004 21:14:45 txt txt txtID= 12458 Data=21/01/2004 21:14:45 txt txt txtID= 12458 Data=21/01/2004 21:14:45 txt txt txtID= 12458 Data=21/01/2004 21:14:45 txt txt txtID= 12458 Data=21/01/2004 21:14:45 txt txt txtSo: I insert a record from my asp page but I find the same record formore times... Why?
Hi, I was wondering how I can complete a column (which doesnt have an input one) with data. For example:
I have a sql query which bring data of 3 columns
ID | FISRT NAME | LAST NAME 1 MIKE MORGAN 2 SARA JOHANES
So, I will insert that data in a FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, which I configured with 3 columns and I did the corresponding mapping in the FLAT FILE DESTINTATION.
Now, If I add one more column in the FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, I will not have it mapped to a input one, obviously. So, what I need is to add one more column to the flat file destination and complete it with zeros values in it.
Probably I can solve this part by introducing a DERIVED COLUMN and there I can configure the zeros that I want to add to the column. But I'm not sure if I can do that without having a input column. So, the question will be, how can I add one column to a flat file which doesnt have a input and introduce any value that I want to it? Hope I was clear Thanks for your help.
I have a problem to import xls file to sql table, using MS SQL 2000 server. Actual main problem associated with it is xls file contain one colum having large amount of text which length is approximate 1500 characters. I am trying to resolve it through like save xls to csv or text file then import but it also can not copy whole text of that column, like any column in xls having 995 characters then text or csv file contain 560 characater. So, it is also wrong.
Hi.. I have a small problem to insert a double value into a sqlexpress database:Her is the problem example dblValue = 5.5int = 1conn.Open()Dim query As String = "INSERT INTO testtable VALUES(" & intValue & "," & dblValue & ",1.2)"Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(query)Command.Connection = conncommand.ExecuteNonQuery()The table has tre columns: int, decimal, decimal."INSERT INTO testtable VALUES(1,5,5,1.2)"The problem is that ,in the sqlcommand, the dblValue er transformed from 5.5 to 5,5, so it seems that i am going to insert 4 values, 1 - 5 - 5 and 1.2. Why are the dblvalue transformed and not the value 1.2? How do I avoid this problem?
I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.
I’m attempting to use DTS to import data from a Memo field in MS Access (Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider) into a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field. Unfortunately, I’m getting the following error message:
Error at Source for Row number 30. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1. Data for source column 2 (‘Html’) is too large for the specified buffer size.
I also get this error message when attempting to import the same data from Excel.
Per the MS Knowledgebase article located at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281517, I changed the registry property indicated to 0. This modification did not help.
Per suggestions in other SQL Server forums, I moved the offending row from row number 30 to row number 1. This change only resulted in the same error message, but with the row number indicated as “Row number 1. (Incidentally, the data in this field is greater than 255 characters in every row, so the cause described in the Knowledgebase article doesn’t seem to be my problem).
You might also like to know that the data in the Access table was exported into this table from a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.
Does anybody know what might trigger this error message other than the data being less than 255 characters in the first eight rows (as described in the KB article)?
I’ve hit a brick wall, so I’d appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!
hi,just wanted to know if i need to insert a string with double quotes init into a sql server table, do i need to use any delimeters, like "?an insert like:insert into producttable values(key, "double quote text")where i need the "double quote text" to go in like that, with the " "at both ends.Thank you.
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'm in the early stages of planning an image gallery that will start with ~1000 hi res JPG images each with a file size of about 3mb in size.
To store the images as standard files I figure need about 3gig of hosting space to start. The gallery will increase in size and probably very quickly I must have room for growth.
I've never tried storing images inside a DB so my question is how big does my database (in MB) have to be to store the 1000 images? Do i need a 3gig MSSQL DB or does the binary data have a larger overhead? Or would the DB be much smaller than 3gig?
And also: Iis storing such a large number of images in a DB the best architecture or would it be more cost effective to store them as regular files?
Is there any method to find out the size of an image datatype currently in the database. For example I have 2 tables that contain the same image, but the archive table is not displaying the same as the main. I am thinking the image file was corrupted somehow but don't know how to check this out. Any ideas?
