Permissions For BULK INSERT?
Apr 21, 2006I'm trying to do a BULK INSERT into a SQL Server 2005 db from an aspx page. When I try to run the page, to insert into [myTable], I get:The current user is not the database or object owner of table 'myTable'. Cannot perform SET operation.But here's the kicker: if I use Server Management Studio to log into the same database, using the same credentials, and run the same query, it works fine.My connection string looks like this:connectionString="data source=myLocalMachine; initial catalog=myCatalog;

the logon-id OR for the user associated with the logon-id?
I know you can do this for roles.

Msg 4834, Level 16, State 1, Procedure jason_test_exec, Line 4
You do not have permission to use the bulk load statement.
Can you help me with this? Why is the user prevented from running this bulk insert inside the stored proc with "execute as" ? The profiler trace from both of these stored procs have identical results for the SP: StmtStarting event.

If I am dbo of a database is that sufficient (rights wise) to bulk insert into that database?

Bulk Insert Permissions For Temp Tables
Feb 21, 2001Does anyone know what permissions are required to run bulk insert to a temp table?
I've got a procedure that creates a temp table and runs bulk insert on it. Only problem is that it seems that only the dbo can run it. Anyone else gets the following error:
"The current user is not the database or object owner of table '#bulk'. Cannot perform SET operation."
Alternatively, does anyone know how to submit a scheduled job as a different user?
I've got my import system set up to create a scheduled job that kicks off right away. The job runs the 1st step which includes a bulk insert. The second step checks if the first step completely failed or not. Works great except that when the user runs the submission procedure, it comes back with that error.
Microsoft's brain-dead bulk insert command....aaargh. Every method around it's design flaws is blocked by another design flaw.

May 18, 2006Hello, I recently view a webcast of sql injection, and at this moment I created a user, and give dbo to this user, and this same user, is the one I have in the connection string of my web application, I want to create a user to prevent sql injection attacks, I mean that user wont be able to drop or create objects, only select views, tables, exec insert,update, deletes and exec stored procedures.
Is any easy way to do this?
A database role and then assing that role to the user?

Aug 2, 2006Using SQL Server 2k5 sp1, Is there a way to deny users access to a specific column in a table and deny that same column to all stored procedures and views that use that column? I have a password field in a database in which I do not want anyone to have select permissions on (except one user). I denied access in the table itself, however the views still allow for the user to select that password. I know I can go through and set this on a view by view basis, but I am looking for something a little more global.

Can I Insert/Update Large Text Field To Database Without Bulk Insert?
Nov 14, 2007I have a web form with a text field that needs to take in as much as the user decides to type and insert it into an nvarchar(max) field in the database behind. I've tried using the new .write() method in my update statement, but it cuts off the text after a while. Is there a way to insert/update in SQL 2005 this without resorting to Bulk Insert? It bloats the transaction log and turning the logging off requires a call to sp_dboptions (or a straight-up ALTER DATABASE), which I'd like to avoid if I can.

Apr 21, 2008An insert statement was not inserting all the data into a table. Found it very strange as the other fields in the row were inserted. I ran SQL profiler and found that sql statement had all the fields in the insert statement but some of the fields were not inserted. Below is the sql statement which is created dyanmically by a asp.net C# class. The columns which are not inserted are 'totaltax' and 'totalamount' ...while the 'shipto_name' etc...were inserted.there were not errors thrown. The sql from the code cannot be shown here as it is dynamically built referencing C# class files.It works fine on another test database which uses the same dlls. OPENROWSET (INSERT) Insert Error: Column Name Or Number Of Supplied Values Does Not Match Table Definition.
Mar 24, 2008Is there a way to avoid entering column names in the excel template for me to create an excel file froma dynamic excel using openrowset.
I have teh following code but it works fien when column names are given ahead of time.
If I remove the column names from the template and just to Select * from the table and Select * from sheet1 then it tells me that column names donot match.

Can't Insert New Data To Sql Using Sqldatasource.insert, Web Forms And A Master Page
Sep 11, 2006Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to SQL, ASP.NET, etc. I am creating an intranet site for my company in VS 2005 and have run into a very annoying problem that I can't seem to solve. I have tried Googling it and came up empty. I have a database in SQL Express 2005 and my website will be accessing several tables within the database. I can retrieve info just fine and I can update, delete, etc just fine using gridview or other prebuilt tools, but when I add a few text boxes and wire a button to the SqlDataSource.Insert() command, I get a new record that is full of null values except for the identity key I have set. The kicker is that I am also using a master page and when I duplicate the web page without the master page link, everything works just fine. I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to.
it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2.
I have a table in my database called "Players" which has 3 Columns

On completing the wizard and clicking the finish button, I want the data to be inserted into the SQl express Players table.

Iam reading file using bulk insert and iam inserting these phone numbers into table having one column as below.
BULK INSERT TABLE_NAME FROM 'FILE_PATH'
WITH (KEEPNULLS,FIRSTROW=2,ROWTERMINATOR = '||')
but i want to insert the data into table having two columns. if iam trying to insert the data into table having two columns its not inserting.
can anyone help me how to do this?

Interaction Between Instead Of Insert Trigger And Output Clause Of Insert Statement

This problem is being seen on SQL 2005 SP2 + cumulative update 4
I am currently successfully using the output clause of an insert statement to return the identity values for inserted rows into a table variable
I now need to add an "instead of insert" trigger to the table that is the subject of the insert.
As soon as I add the "instead of insert" trigger, the output clause on the insert statement does not return any data - although the insert completes successfully. As a result I am not able to obtain the identities of the inserted rows
Note that @@identity would return the correct value in the test repro below - but this is not a viable option as the table in question will be merge replicated and @@identity will return the identity value of a replication metadata table rather than the identity of the row inserted into my_table
Note also that in the test repro, the "instead of insert" trigger actually does nothing apart from the default insert, but the real world trigger has additional code.
To run the repro below - select each of the sections below in turn and execute them
1) Create the table
2) Create the trigger
3) Do the insert - note that table variable contains a row with column value zero - it should contain the @@identity value
4) Drop the trigger
5) Re-run the insert from 3) - note that table variable is now correctly populated with the @@identity value in the row
I need the behaviour to be correct when the trigger is present

Hi All
I decided to change over from Microsoft Access Database file to the New SQLServerCe Compact edition. Although the reading of data from the database is greatly improved, the inserting of the new rows is extremely slow.
I was getting between 60 to 70 rows per sec using OLEDB and an Access Database but now only getting 14 to 27 rows per sec using SQLServerCe.
I have tried the below code changes and nothing seams to increase the speed, any help as I would prefer to use SQLServerCe as the database is much smaller and I€™m use to SQL Commands.
Details:

.NET Frameworks 2.0
SQL Compact Edition V3.5
Encryption = Engine Default
Database Size = 128Mb (But needs to be changes to 999Mbs)
Where Backup_On_Next_Run, OverWriteQuick, CompressAns are Booleans, all other column sizes are nvarchar and size 10 to 30 expect for Full Folder Address size 260

Feb 26, 2002I am trying to setup a BCP command in a stored procedure it workds for me an administrator. i'm using a user's account in the username and password in the BCP command of a user that has DBO rights on the database i'm extracting the dat from. I can execute the stored procedure from my workstation and the server using my login account in QA. Using the username of the dbo account in QA i can get it to work at the server but not at my workstation orher workstation. my thoughts were that it was network permission related but i bumped her account to that of a domain admin and it still will only work on the server. it generates the following error.

internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
this is what i'm executing with the names changed to protect the innocent

the environment is SQL7 on a 2000 Advanced server and we are running active directory.
i'm guessing it's something i'm just overlooking. i hope.

into the login and unselect and reselect the database to make sure that the login works
with the database. Is there a way to get around this??
One other question:: I have added 65 new tables to a database and want to give select

It looks like I am the only one that can since I have full administator rights. So I created the job and then changed ownership to another user,
but he cannot add a new step. WHen he tried to created a job he received message
ERROR 229 EXECUTE permission denied on object 'sp_enum-Sqlagent_subsystem'
database 'MSDB' owner DBO
I gave the user access to MSDB as DBO but it didn't make any difference.

Is it possible for a user that runs one application against database A to update a table via a stored procedure i database B during runtime without beeing entered as a user in that database, i.e execute that stored procedure with a default or given user.
The reason is that we don't want to administrate an unknown number of users that will have no access to that database except via that stored procedure.

I need some help understanding some things about SQL permissions. Login ID A is a login mapped to the dbo of database A and B. Login ID B is aliased to dbo. Why when running a transfer from database A to B, it runs OK when run by Login A, but fails as Login B. In the failure situation, I get error 15244, only sa or dbo can set database permissions. I thought by virtue of the aliasing I had dbo permissions.
This SQL stuff is more confusing than any TCP/IP or Cisco stuff I have ever done.

But I found a table where he has update permission to one table.
I tried to revoke this several times and I couldn´t revoke it.

1) Administrator access to the local box on running SQL
2) The ability to access the SQLData directory directly through drive mappings
We are attempting to create as secure an environment as possible and keep everything locked down. In my opinion, they do not need these type of accesses. They do have sa priviliges to the SQL server but I see no reason to give them Windows 2000 administrator priviliges. Also, to further the security on the servers (they are publicly accessible), we are trying to eliminate all shares including admin shares. Seems to me they should be able to accomplish everything using the SQL tools. Am I off base on this?
