Can we install two instances of report server on the same machine?. We want to use the same hardware for two different methods of custom authentication. Both the server applications would then talk to the same database.
Hi, I am trying to install multiple application services on 1 sql server database. Is this possible? I do not know how to install anything but the default application services settings for the membership, roles, etc.
My client has a server running MS 2003 Server for Smal Business Server, and it has SQL Server Express 2005 installed (I believe it is installed 3 times, as part of SharePoint, Veritas Backup Exec and ACT! applications).
I am trying to implement an application that uses SQL Server 2000, but the Server 2003 SBS does not support that version. So I need to launch an additional instance of SQL Server Exp 2005.
To do so, do I need to download and install SQL Server Express 2005 software again? Or can I just run SQLSVR.exe from an existing instance, but with a different instance name (sqlservr.exe -s<InstanceName>?
The reason I need another instance is that these existing instances limit DDL statements.
I am new to this and compare it to launching MS Word multiple times - you don't need to reinstall Word to run it multiple times.
Is launching from the command line a bad idea - and if it is, what is the better way to ensure that it launches under the local system context a service?
Thanks in advance for any help and insights. It is much appreciated.
I would like to know if it is possible to have different applications on separate report servers sharing one report server database. If so are there possible issues or ptfalls to this type of architecture?
I have a database in the SQL 2005 default instance and a report server in a named instance. The database has a symmetric key for decrypting one of the columns. When the report server queries the database I get this error: "Cannot find the symmetric key 'key', because it does not exist or you do not have permission." I know the symmtric key is there because it works when queried from the same instance. Should the database and report server be in the same instance? Or is there a way to change the permissions so that the report server can access the symmetric key in the other instance? I might note that the report server is able to access unencrypted data in the other instance. The error only occurs when I try to decrypt data using the symmetric key.
Greetings... I'm working at consolidating several Reporting Services installations into one so we can decommission some old servers. We have two Report Servers that are in SQL Server 2000 and three that are in SQL Server 2005 (none are in a web farm configuration). I can upgrade the 2000 databases to 2005 format just fine, but now how do I merge these five ReportServer/ReportServerTempDB databases into one? I'm reluctant to redeploy reports to the "official" Report Server because we lose security, subscription, and scheduling information by doing that. So redeploy would cost us time and data loss over hundreds of reports, thus my hope to merge the databases at a data level. Is there a tool to automate this process, or has anyone tried this before? Thanks in advance.
But I'm not quite clear on what will happen if you currently have SQL Server Express 2005 installed with User Instances, and then you launch the installer for SP1.
Will it also update the User Instance? If so, how could I tell? When I go to the registry for the User Instance it has the older version value ie.
When I am in Visual Studio 2005, and I try to add an SQL database, I get the following error "generating user instances in sql server is disabled. use sp_configure user instances enabled to generate user instances." I am currently using SQL server 2005 Express. What do I need to do, to create an SQL database? Thanks in advance.
I had a server with SQL Server 7.0 I installed a named instance of SQL Server 2000 and then i passed all my DB of the 7.0 instance to the 2000 instance. Then i removed the 7.0 instance, that was the default instance. So at the moment there is only the 2000 version, but it isn't the default instance Can the 2000 instance become the default instance? (So that clients can connect to it simply through computer name, and not creating an alias)

Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.
Thanks in advance for any help. I would really like to avoid rebuilding again.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services with Service Pack 2 but catalogue Report Manager it was not installed. To me will not address under the reference http: // localhost/reports$SQLExpress since such catalogue is not present in IIS. In what there can be a problem?
Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)
I have a win.forms application part of functionality of which is to show rdlc report. When I try to launch the application it says that ReportViewer assembly is missing, which was expected. When I downloaded and try to install viewer runtime from here: [URL] .....
I receive that Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types are not installed and must be installed first. I downloaded appropriate installation from [URL] .... and it installed successfully. But when I try to run viewer runtime installation it still says that Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types are not installed. What do I miss?
I am doing drillthrough from ReportA to ReportB via the Date field on ReportA. In Report Manager, all is well. However, when run through a custom app using asp.net and the report viewer control, the behavior was erratic. sometimes it would work. sometimes it would merely bring up the ReportA again and i would have to click Date again and then it would work.
a coworker recommended the Report Viewer fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933137. Since the redistributable was not present in Add/Remove programs on my test box, i installed the full version. I then started up the .net app in debug and ran ReportA and drilled through to ReportB several times and could not make it fail. I was happy.
Since the redistributable was not present on the production box, i installed the full install there as well. However, the erratic report viewer behavior continued.
I decided to try runnign ReportB directly instead of via the drill through from ReportA. ReportB had always run perfectly on its own. When i try to use the graphical date selector control, the results are different depending on the machine I use.
1. If i am using my test box, and i run ReportB directly via the app in debug mode, i get a runtime error indicating Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object required. It then points to Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd at the GetObjectPosition(obj) function.
2. If i am using my test box and go out to the live production website, i get the same runtime error.
3. If i am using another machine and go out to the live production website, the data selector control merely seems to refresh the report. This is the same behavior i get when using the production server and going out to the live website.
The redistributable has been uninstalled from both the test box and the production box. This did not change the behavior described above.
All of the Microsoft.ReportViewer items in C:Windowsassembly indicate version 8.0.0.0.
Any help would be grand. Also, please let me know if I should cross post this in the .Net forums.
Hi Dears, How can i detect the Local SQL Server instance (server name, uid, pwd) installed in a standalone systemusing C# 2.0?I used the fucntions available in odbc32.dll, but it only returns the result while the systemis connected in network.can any one resolve this....?thanks in advance...yenkay
with sql server 2000, it is possible to have multiple instances on one server. Now I want to make the second server a subscriber for specific tables before there are some tests/major changes. Has anyone experience with this on the same server. Note : sql server subscriptions between different servers in sql server 7 is not the issue.
I created a named instance of SQL Server 2000 on my notebook. I inadvertantly set the trusted SQL connection to Windows Authentication. This is creating a problem with COM because of username and password. I want to reset it to use SQL Server authentication but I can't find where to do it. Can I do this or do I have to delete this instance and create a new one.
Dear SQL Guru,I just found out this morning that my SQL Server box had been added 1more instance. Below is the example:PPAPP0075FINANCE (Old instance)PPAPP0075ACCOUNTING (Old instance)PPAPP0075Accounting (new instance)This is a case sensitive MS Sql server (third party vendor App). TheACCOUNTING instance is the one we have been using for our currentapplications. I found out the new one(Accounting) when I scan thenetwork by using OSQL -L utility. However, when NT engineers tried toverify the physical files location ofAccounting, and it did not exist. When I tried to register it and itdoes not appear from Enterprise Manager. Please keep in mind NT Engineers have been monkey around on this serverquite a lot in last a few weeks, especially modifying Registry keys.My question is, where did PPAPP0075Acounting come from? We never evertried to install any more instance on this server. Please help,Thanks,Silaphet,
I already have a copy of SQL SERVER 2000 installed on my current local machine. How is it possible that I create another second instance for example TEST/silkkeng in SQL Server Enterprise Manager? OR SQL query ? Is it possible ? Or the only solution is ReInstall SQL to create another instances?
Hi, I've got an application which uses the DBFactory Provider to enumerate a list of available SQL instances on the local network.
I've just reformatted though and put everything back on, and my application will now see the sql server instances on the network, but not the instances on the local computer (only the server name), eg, it will see "BENSQLEXPRESS" on a computer (BEN) on the local network, and give the version info, etc, but it only sees "DAN" instead of "DANPCP" and "DANSQLEXPRESS" on the local computer (DAN).
Hi all,I just asked some people to help me out and phone microsoft with thefollowing information, kindly they refused unless we setup a supportcontract with them first, for pre-sales information. (That really doesnot sound like good business sense to me - anyway here is our problem,if anyone could help thanks)."To tell and ask microsoft:We will be setting up a microsoft sql server 2000 instance running on awindows 2003 server.1) We need to check this can run alongside a microsoft 2003 sql server(either workgroup or standard edition), on the same machine. Are thereany .dll clashes if we do this? If there are can we run SQL Server2000, in a virtual machine running windows 2000 professional. (I have alicenced copy we can use for this).2) If we run one instance of 2000, and one of 2003 of the sql servers, can one use the processor licence model, and one use the CAL licencemodel."Thanks for any help, and any idea why they actually force you to usenews groups for pre-sales information?David
I am playing around in a test environment with SQL Server 2014. I have a question about the default location of the report server databases when you have multiple report server instances installed on one server.
I did a very simple install of SQL Server 2014 with the database and Reporting Services in Native Mode (install only) features selected. Accepting the default locations, I ended up with the following locations as you would expect:
Running the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, I created the Report Server database. After creating the Report Server database, the related files will be located below in the SQL folder as I would expect.
Next I installed another instance, which I called Test, of SQL Server 2014 like I did above. I now have the following folder structure the Test instance as I expect.
Hi, I want to list the instances SQL server in the network and their corresponding database. I found an API which list the server names in the network, but only for the main SQL server it is connecting and listing the database. For others it times out and gives run time error [DBNETLIB] Connection Open () SQL server doesn¡¯t exist or access denied could anyone help on this
We had 5 instances of SQL Server running on one of our machines and everything looked to be working fine. Today I installed another instance for a new application and once done and rebooted the new instance didn't show in the SQL Server Enterprise Manager. At this point we decided to uninstall it. After that 4 of the existing instances have diapered as well even though they are running and responding requests from their respective applications.
I did some googling and all I could see is something related to a command called nscontrol but I couldn’t find any nscontrol executable on that machine.
Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be?
I am running SQL 7.0 as the default instance and SQL 2K as a named instance. Each is using a different port....7.0 is using port 1433 and 2K is using 1024. Everything appears to be up and running fine on the server. However, I am not able to access the 2K instance from a client. I have tried to use both TCP IP and named pipes setting them up using the server network utility and the client network utility. No luck anywhere. I continue to get connection errors...check network documentation...
I an involved in a project that will have five sql server instances on an NT cluster. I cannot find anywhere on Technet info on what happens when a single instance fails. Do they all have to fail over or just the failed instance. This is important so that we get the disk layout correct.
Can anybody help ? or point me to any docs on this.
