We have an application written in MS Access. The tables are linked to a SQL 2000 database.
The problem is that sometimes insert a new record in a table freezes and times out after a while without anything has happened.
When installing the application the *mdb file is copied over to the C drive and an ODBC connection is written to the registry.
The application is used by many in the company.
We have problems on tables defined with IDENTITY columns. Can this be our problem and how can we solve it?

I am having problem in bulk update of a sql server table haning identity column from a datatable( has no identity column) using sqlbulkcopy. I tried several approaches, but it does not show any error nor is the table getting updated. But the identity value seems to getting increased every time.

Replicating Tables With An Identity Column Fails Even With Custom Stored Procedure
Mar 28, 1999When replicating a table which has an identity column I get the error: "Procedure cp_insert_tblname expects parameter @C1, which was not supplied.". The stored procedure appears to be called without any parameters so my insert stored procedure does not work. I know I'm missing something basic here!! Do I have to add the field names when telling replication to use a custom stored procedure. If not, how do arguments get passed to my SP, as globals somehow?
Any info greatly appreciated!!

I have a indexing problem. I have a sequence that needs to has a index number. I want to use a table data type and have a working sample BUT I cannot reseed the table when needed. How do I do this.
This works only for the first ExitCoilID then I need to RESEED.

Apr 30, 2007What causes locks on the internal Service Broker tables? I notice in my service broker application that when a lot of messages are being passed around, there are a lot of locks being issued on some internal service broker tables (queue_messages_). Are the locks caused from RECEIVE statements being issued against the queues, or is it something else? Can anything be done to decrease the locking? In my current application, I am reusing dialogs and receiving messages from the queue in bulk rather than receiving the first one from activation. Is there anything else I should be looking specifically to do to increase performance?

May 25, 2007I mange several large databases with multiple files and filegroups. During some maintenance I was trying to remove a filegroup and its files and noticed that I was unable to. It appears that some service broker objects were created on my user defined filegroup.

Jan 25, 2015I have table of three column first column is an ID column. However at creation of the table i have not set this column to auto increment. Then i have copied 50 rows in another table to this table then set the ID column values to zero.
Now I have changed the ID column to auto increment seed=1 increment=1 but the problem is i couldn't figure out how to update this ID column with zero value set to each row with this auto increment values so the ID column would have values from 1-50. Is there a away to do this?

SQLServer and the corresponding services are at actual update level. The reporting services worked for 4 months without this problem. Suddenly, most of the time all reports return an internal error (it is like 70-30 for internal error) not depending which render format is used.
The system logs (eventlog, iis) show no errors. The ExecutionLog of RS show rsInternalError.

As it seems, after an iisreset the first rendering always works perfect. HD space is enough.
Any ideas?
How To Use Identity On Non-identity Column (with Concurrence)
Aug 1, 2014I'm working with a third-party database (SQL Server 2005) and the problem here is the following:
- There are a bunch of ETL processes that needs to insert rows on a table (let's call this table T) and at the same time, an ERP (owner of T) is up and running (reading, updating and inserting on T).
- The PK of T is an Integer.
Today all ETL processes uses (select max(ID) + 1 from T) to insert new rows, so just picture the scenario. It is a mess! Everyday they get duplicate key error when 2 or more concurrent processes are trying to insert a row (with the max) at the same time.
Considering that I can't change the PK, what is the best approach to solve this problem?
To sum up:
* I need to have processes in parallel inserting on T
* I can't change anything on T
* The PK is NOT an Identity

i cannot implement this constraint, it throws the error when i execute the below Alter query,

the error thrown is :

Please let me know if it is possible to replicate a table with identity property defined in it. Both the publisher and subscriber tables have identity property defined. Which option should be used while setting up transactional replication to allow the identity values at the publisher pushed to the subscriber, which also has identity property defined? Not for replication option with the identity property also fails. Whichever option I choose I get the error, 'An explicit value for the identity column in table 'jobs_id_nfr' can only be specified when a column list is used and IDENTITY_INSERT is ON.' This works only if the identity property is not defined at the subscriber. But, I need to have the identity property defined at the subscriber also because the subscriber should be an exact copy of production.

In Import wizard, I chose 'ignore' in source, checked Enable Indenity Insert - DTS failed with a msg like - a column cannot have NULL...
In DTS package, had Fast load and Enable Indenity checked - no luck !
Unchecked Enable identity, do luck.
What would be the standard procs for this since this sounds like a very common
senario.
What I am expecting is to insert from source and SQL would take care identity column automatically.

Identity Column
Feb 29, 2000I have a table that has a field that will not accept null values. I was trying to create a new table with a new field that would accept null values. I would then drop the original table and rename the new table. The problem is my key field has the Identity column (Autonumber) turned on. This allows the recordID to be automatically generated. Is there anyway to bypass the Identity Column feature and still keep it there future records? I already tried the "with Nocheck Clause" but does not work.

Apr 9, 2006Kudos to y'all! On most of my tables, I'm using a column of data type numeric and properties set as Identity with no replication. Now I know that it can handle only a length of 9 and obviously not nullable. Now by length of 9, does it mean in bytes or literal digits. If it is, then that would mean that it would reach only up to 999,999,999. What happens then if it reaches that digit?
