How do we determine on a SQL 2005 server what license type was selected during the install? Where is the informationkept and how it is tracked by SQL Server 2005.

I have a VERY Legitmate use to install sql 4 workgroups on a pc without licensing it. I am making a disk image for MANY pcs to be imaged and load licensing after the imaging is completed.
I have been able to do this with Windows XP Professional, MS Office 2003 and a couple non-Ms programs. The information for MS software even came from their KB, so I know what I am doing is legit. I just can't find any information on doing this for my sql app.
Any suggestions??

I just completed my graduation and eventually i got a proposal from a company to develop a software for database management. I have some doubts about licensing the back-end database. My doubts are:
1. If I'm using Sql Server as the backend and the .sql file placed on the server where this .sql file will be accessed by about 20 clients, will the customer (company) have to purchase a license for the sql server? If yes, how this can be done? Does the company have to purchase a license for each client and server for accessing contents of the .sql file? Actually, there will be only 1 server and abt 20 clients.
2. Does the developer need to purchase a seperate license for distributing the .sql file?
3. Also, wat is the maximum capacity of an sql database size? I'm asking this because as per my requirements, the company will be using the database at a rate of 1GB per month. So, by end of a year, it will be 12 GB.
NOTE: No Sql Server Software will be installed on client machines.
In brief, my doubt is: Do we need license for reading and writting to .mdb or .sql file contents and do we need seperate license for distributing them?
Please, somebody can help me for the licensing information and also for the database size?

We have a .NET Remoting application whose "server instance" connects to SQL Server Express and send data via remoting to its client application. There is no need for other direct access to SQL Server except for the "server instance". Now my software vender advices us to upgrade to SQL Server WorkGroup edition and now we are facing the question which license to buy. Could you advice us?

We have installed the SQL Server 2005 Enterprise trail version for 180 days. As it specifies in the documentation that it exprires after 180 days and in the mean time we have actually made a purchase of the License. Now...do we need to uninstall the trail verision and reset/restart everything again? Please advise.

I need to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 64-bit running on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition 64-bit. Instead of installing it on every single machine I thought of installing it on one of them, updating it with all the necessary updates, creating a ghost image of the updated system and database and copying the image on all the other machines.
After doing it I however need to update both the system and SQL Server license keys. And there comes my question whether one can change the SQL Server license key after the installation??

I have a customer, Customer who has purchased SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 via Open License Agreement. The product key is not available with the media.
I checked with eOpen team and confirmed that SQL 2005 does not require product key or Volume License Key for installation.
however, according to the VKB article 331355 titled "eOpen License Web Site" under "Exceptions" it is mentioned as:
SQL Server: The product key is distributed with the media. If the customer did not get a product key with the media, refer them to their reseller. The product key is hidden between two shrink-wrapped CDs.
Need your clarification on this,
How should we provide the key to the customer.

I have scheduled a job that runs every minute.
If the job does not succeed, then I would like my front end application to be notified.
I am not sure if this is a reasonable way but I am thinking of somehow
populating a table (Only if the scheduled job fails) in sql server and then read that table every minute from the front end application.
So, is it possible to populate a table if a job fails?
I do not see any options for this in the properties of the job.

I was in the phase of switching over to Sql Server Reporting from the normal reports. I plan to go with the SQL server 2005 standard version. Do i need visual studio 2005 to design and deploy report. If I am using only SQL server standard alone for my reporting and publishing, is it possible to assign the user rights to reports, user can just login and can view all the reports that belongs to that user. Since I wont be using the visual Studio 2005, so I want to implement this using the SQL server 2005. So pls help me with your kind information how to proceed ahead.

Hello, I'm completly new to SQL server 2005 express and wanted to see if somebody can answer a few questions for me.
I recently had a small application developed to import CSV files into a SQL database. The application imports roughly 200,000 records a day and takes roughly 4 hours or longer to import the data. I greatly under estimated the amount of time that it would take to import the data and I'm looking for some solutions to help speed up the process. I'm currently just using my laptop to hold the data. Would it help speed things up by dedicating a seperate machine to hold the data? If so, what type of machine would be best. I'm looking for a cost effective solution because the data is for personal use.

Under the 1 server 5 CAL package would this setup be covered? or will I have to go the processor route? Currently, i am planning to develop a small system for my client by using SQL database. However, i am not sure is it legal to use SQL Express 2005 in this project? I mean setup the SQL Express 2005 in their server then my application will access this database. If I install an instance of SQL Server on a box with 4 processors but specify in the licensing part of the installation procedure that it's a '2 processor license', does that really mean that SQL Server will only use 2 of the 4 processors? I ask because, having done this, if I check the SQL Server instance's properties, on the Processors tab, there are 4 processors ticked - giving the impression that 4 processors are being used by this SQL Server instance. Can anyone throw some light on this?
Another question... If I wish to reconfigure the same SQL Server instance from a 2 to a 4 processor 'per processor' license, how can this be done?
