MDAC 2.8 Fatal Setup Error. This Setup Does Not Support Installing On This Operating System

Jan 5, 2006

I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022.  It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.

I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP.  There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.

1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account.  Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions.  I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder.  I come back later and the permissions are gone.

2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared.  I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.

3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.

Error Message 25080 The Operating System Does Not Support Encryption Again

Nov 19, 2007

A customer of my program is getting the SQL CE error message "The operating system does not support encryption".

I've seen several threads on this issue, but none of them seem to apply to my problem. This is a Windows Forms application, so no device and no web service.

The OS is a German Windows XP - so there shouldn't be any issues regarding strong encryption. It even runs in Windows 2000 in our test VPC.

We're using SQL CE 2005.

Any ideas what I could check?

Operating System Does Not Support Encryption

Sep 27, 2007

Hi,

We are using SQL Server Compact Edition v3.1. We have 2 users running on Windows XP with Service Pack 2, who are getting errors that the Operating System does not support encryption when creating a new database. The problem is not with the code, one of the users installed the same software on a different Windows XP system and the software operates correctly. We also have many other installations that are working properly as well, so it appears to be something specific to these 2 computers.

We've had the user try repairing their .NET Framework 2.0 install, in addition to confirming that the

Crypt32.DLL and CryptUI.DLL dependencies are both present and of the correct version in WindowsSystem32. We've also verified that the users do have write access in the directory we are trying to create the database.

Is there something we can do to fix encryption on these users systems or something the users may have done to disable encryption?

Thanks

Setup Init Error When Installing SQL Server 2k Enterprise, Plz Help

Feb 12, 2004

hi,

i'm running win2k sp4 on a 2.4Ghz P4 with 512M ram and 1.5 gigs freespace on my harddrive (more than enough for the sql server client).

i insert the cd and start up the installer. i then get the splash screen, click on "SQL Server 2000 Components", then on "Install Database Server". Then the splash screen disappears and nothing happens for a while (sometimes a really long while). Then an error message pops up saying:

Setup initialization error.
<some message>

Source: 'E:<some source>'
Target: 'C:WINNTTEMPSqlSetup<some target>'

where <some message> is a differing message. sometimes it's "The data is invalid", sometimes a cycle redundancy check error, sometimes a inpage error...

<some source> is one of the files on the sql server cd, and this also differs most of the time.
<some target> is the corresponding <some source> in the sql server setup's temp dir.

as well, if i restart my computer and try starting the installer after windows has started up (well, at least all of the sys tray icons have loaded) i usually get an error message saying something about "msetup" having an error and being shut down. it also mentions that there is some log file which is created, but i'm not sure where it's located or what it's called.

i have also noticed that some process called " wowexec.exe" is starts up when the installer does, and keeps running after the installer (setupsql.exe) crashes. i am also unable to end the " wowexec.exe" process and process tree.

i don't think there's anything wrong with the cd, since it looks like it works file on other pc's. any idea what may be wrong?

i would really appreciate any help in fixing this. i really need to get the sql server 2k client installed (particularly the enterprise manager).

Setup And Upgrade :: Error Setup Account Privileges

Nov 15, 2015

I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop.  When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7.  How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?

I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11.  I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

Can Not Create SQL Mobile Database On Server: The Operating System Does Not Support Encryption

Oct 12, 2007

I have code that creates a SQL Mobile database on a server. It has worked in many environments, but I have one customer experiencing an issue. It will not create the database on their server. I would appreciate any thoughts.

The exact error message I get is "the operating system does not support encryption"

I am getting it on the line: SQLCeEngine.CreateDatabase()

Here is the code:
SQLCeEngine = New SqlServerCe.SqlCeEngine(SQLConnectionString)
ReturnValue += ": Declare new"
SQLCeEngine.CreateDatabase()
ReturnValue += ":Create"
SQLCeEngine.Dispose()
ReturnValue += ": Dispose"

Here is the error message I get from our application- the part after Err: is the actual error message from the system:
Data Source = D:EVADATAWebServiceDownloads est;Password=test;Persist Security Info=False;: Declare new:Error!:Err:The operating system does not support encryption.

When I go into SQL Express and create a SQL Mobile database using it, it can be created. So, I have to believe it can be done on the server, but I don't know why the code can not do it.
(e.g. FileConnect Object ExplorerServer Type: SQL Server compact Edition and create a database). The database is successfully created if I do it manually this way. It even creates fine if I select the 'Encrypt' button.

The machine is a Windows 2000 Server sp4 version 5.00.2195
SQL 2000 is installed
SQL 2005 Express is installed
I ran the SQLServerCE31-EN.msi file and it is installed. (I have also re-run and repaired it)
I have also copied over the newest version of our code from scratch.

SQL Server mgmt Studio: 9.00.3042.00
MDAC 2000.085.1128.00
MSXML 2.3 3.1 4.0 5.0 6.0

Problem Opening Database: The Operating System Does Not Support The Encryption Mode Provided.

Oct 12, 2007

I have created an .sdf database on my Desktop - and am able to open and close it just fine from my application program.

Whenever I try to:

Open it with the same program but installed on a different PC,

or:

Open it from a program running as a service on the development PC, I get the error

"The operating system does not support the Encryption Mode provided."

The working above is from the Version 3.5 Beta, but the same problem occurs with Version 3.1.

The Error code in Hex is 80004005

I can't find any reference to fixing this error - any ideas?

Error Message Setting Up System DSN: Setup Routines Not Found. Please Reinstall Driver.

Apr 24, 2006

Hi,

I'm running W2K3 SP1. The MDAC Configuration Checker reports MDAC 2.8 SP2. The only discrepancy is MSADCO.DLL, where the expected version is 2.82.1830.0 and my actual version is 2.82.2651.0 (svr03_sp1_gdr.060301-1546).

The error message I'm getting when I use the ODBC Administrator dialog to set up a new entry is: "The setup routines for the SQL Server ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver."

This is followed by a dialog titled: "Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed." The body text of the dialog is "Component not found in the registry."

Does anyone have any idea how I can repair this?

Thanks,

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page.  In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

SQL Cluster Setup Fails After Installing Service Pack 2

May 28, 2000

We have successfully been using MSCS with MSSQL7 (SP1) running under NT4 EE
(SP6a), installed in an active/active configuration using, two DELL
PowerEdge 6350 machines. Recently I installed MSSQL7 (SP2), I followed the
instructions that came with SP2, and unclustered the SQL nodes using the
Failover Cluster Wizard, and installed SP2, this was uneventful, and
appeared to install correctly. Next I tried to recluster the SQL nodes
using the Failover Cluster Wizard as directed. This failed with: "Could not
run setup on remote machine. SQL Cluster Setup failed." So I began the
usual research using the usual resources, and have found articles that
discusses this error, and the things to look for when it happens. I have
exhausted all suggestions without success. I appear to have everything
correctly configured. I have enabled Cluster Logging (level 3), following
are the two things I have found that indicate something is wrong:

1. In the SQL Error Log the following gets logged when I run the wizard:
"Attempting to initialize Distributed Transaction Coordinator."
"Failed to obtain TransactionDispenserInterface:
XACT_E_TMNOTAVAILABLE"

2. In the Cluster Log I see the following message repeatedly:
"[ClRtlCopySecurityDescriptor] MakeSelfRelativeSD failed,
0x00000551"

3. In the sqlclstr.log I see the following, without an indication of
which file is missing:
"[reghelp.h:235] : 2 (0x2): The system cannot find the file
specified."
"[clushelp.cpp:166] : 259 (0x103): No more data is available."
"[validate.cpp:147] DeleteTestGroup:OpenClusterResource: 5007
(0x138f): The cluster resource could not be found."
"~~~ XXX InstallRemote failed"

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this problem?
Many thanks in advance.

More Setup Woes; Installing SQL Develoepr Edition After SQL Express SP2

Apr 3, 2007

So after getting no resolution to my previous problems installing SQL Express SP2 after having applied SP2 to the Developer SKU and needing Express for demo purposes (at a conference amusingly held at an MS regional office) I decided to start again.

After some struggles I uninstalled SQL Server (it crashed during uninstall, and I had to manually remove all the registry entries and clean up the directories).

Sql Express SP2 installed fine, but now developer edition refuses to install; more specifically the Management Tools and documentation portion. Absolutely stunning.

I found one problem in that the install would not proceed (installing the engine) because a more recent version of SQLXML was installed, which I got past by uninstalling the SQLXML installation Express had put onto the machine.

However now I am stuck without any management tools whatsoever (although books on-line installed).

Is it so hard to install two Microsoft products side by side? I am tearing my hair out here and utterly sick of this, especially as last time I tried to log a support call with the Express issue MS support refused to take it (despite having incident calls to burn)

Machine : PUCK
Product : Workstation Components, Books Online and Development Tools

The problem seems to be in setting up the workbench. Could this be because I already have Visual Studio SP1 installed?

ForwardLogBlockReadAheadAsync: Operating System Error 997 - What The .... ?

Sep 11, 2003

Hi, who have ever met the following errors, share an information of what could cause it??? I can't find any info that could help me find the reason. My DB went to SUSPECT mode and in the log file I got:

ForwardLogBlockReadAheadAsync: Operating system error 997(Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.) encountered.

Operating system error 997(Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.) on device 'd:MSSQLdataiservice_Log2.ldf' during ForwardLogBlockReadAheadAsync.

Error: 3414, Severity: 21, State: 1

Error: 9001, Severity: 21, State: 1

Unexpected error while commiting a ShrinkFile operation
/*************************/

What is weird the 997 error occured twice during last night and the DB went into suspect mode only after the sencond one.

The database restored but it's a second time for the last month just getting a bit annoying.

Thanks for any help

System Setup And RAID Stripe Size

May 4, 2006

Dear All,

I've been asked to build a 64bit Windows 2003 server which will SQL Server Enterprise 2000 64bit edition on it. This is my first foray into the world of 64 Server OSs, so hoping to get some advise from the wise. This will be used as a back end to a web application. This server has been purchased with 5 disks (all 146GB disks) in it. Currently this has been setup from the manufacturer as RAID 1+1 with 1 disk not allocated.

I was going to reconfigure the logical drives to have RAID 1 (2 drives) which has OS and swapfile on it, and RAID 5 (3 drives) with all SQL data (the main DB I am estimating to be 20-30GB) on it.

Reading through a couple of forums and google results regarding determining stripe size, it seems some people are recommending putting the tempdb and logs on a seperate drive to the rest of the SQL data, as well as trying to get the optinum strip size.

Can you let me know your opinions on if my proposed logical drive setup seems OK (or just keep one logical drive as either RAID5 or 6), and if tempdb and logs should be on the OS, or should stay on the RAID 5 array? Also, for the stripe size, should I think the same as a 32bit OS, and just use 128/64 or 64/64?

Geoff

edit: SQL Server type corrected.
