MS Sql Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB921896) Will Not Install

I am continually prompted to download & install this SP by the windows update utility but it always fails to install it.
I have XP SP2. No error msg is provided. I do not have ACT! installed. I do have Oracle 10g Expr. Ed installed. Competitive jealousy?

Where does one enable SMO & SQL-DMO?
I looked in the summary log file in the Hotfix directory and it says that the problem is
that SQL Express cant be started. See below.
I went into the SQL Configuration Mgr and tried to start it and it fails to start.
No reason given. Now what?

Hi, i have a clean install of VB2005 Express and it's accompanying SQL Server 2005 Express (yes i'm new to .net).
After installation i ran Windows Update and it found about 40mb of updates including SP1 for SQL Server. All installed correctly up to a reboot point, after which it continued with the update process.
When it reached SP2 (for SQL Server) it tried to install but just says "Updates were unable to be successfully installed" and "The following updates were not installed: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB 921896)".
Now i have a permanent icon in my system tray which when clicked tries to do the install with the same result.
During the attempted install my floppy drive 'buzzes' a couple of times.
I'm running an AMD3000+ (64bit) cpu with Windows 2000 Pro SP4
As mentioned in another post (on the VB Install forum) my MyDocuments folder is on a networked pc which has caused other non related problems, not sure if this could be responsible for the error. It would seem unlikely as SQL SP1 installed without any errors.
I downloaded Web Matrix. Very nice. My VB experience makes this very intuitive. But I see in order to do dB development, I also need to download MS SQL, which is labeled MSDE in as step 3 in the Web Matrix download operation. As I follow the link forward I see that there are three distinct components:
Sql2kasp3.exe Sql2kdesksp3.exe Sql2ksp3.exe
Are all three of these required?
Also I see there is a beta version of the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition: http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/sql/ here. Would this be a viable alternative.
Windows Update Web Page indicates I have BOTH a SUCCESS and FAILURE for SQL Server 2005 Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB 921896) ?Is it possible for my machine to have TWO DIFFERENT MS SQL Server Express installations? Is the problem real or some small ghost issue? I do have a trial CD from Microsoft .. Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite.

Hi i tried to install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 but was unable to do so. I got an error message saying: Error Code: 0x2B22

When updating automaticallly, this update always fail, I have put the configuration manager /server browser : the only one that was disabled, on manual (I have not the automatic option for this one) but nothing works, what can I do ? I installed SQL Server Express on my local pc using the default settings. I also have SQL Server 2005 installed on the same machine. With the SQL Browser service running, I am unable to connect to the SQL Server Express database.
I receive error: Cannot connect to MyComputerNameSQLEXPRESS.
Additional information: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to the SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Any ideas why I'd be receiving an error about remote connections when the connection I'm trying to make is local? - Incidentally, I have configured the SQL 2005 Server to have TCP enabled, Named Pipes enabled, and Shared enabled.

Hi dear Devs! I have a problem and now I am not sure, what I should do. "Microsoft Update" Service warned me, that a new critical update is ready for download. It was the update "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2", I did that. Untill here no problem. The update "SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2" was ready for download too. I have both versions on my computer "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition" and "SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition". The Express Edition came together with the install of "Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite", two days later I have installed the "SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition". Now to my problem, the "SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2" installation failed in one point, the name of it is "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client". The whole installation was not interrupted, it told me only at end of this updating that this point wasn't successful - I saw it in the "Summary.txt". While the install I saw that this "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" was twice in the list of the Service Pack 2 Update. Both of these points had the identical name. In short words, I saw that the SP2 wanted made an update at "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" twice. I thought, it is because these two editions of "SQL Server 2005" on my computer. But the result is, that the SP2 couldn't update the second 'Native Client'. I checked it in the 'Software' section in 'Control Panel' and I have really two installations of this "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client". My question is, is that normal, is that because I have two "SQL Server 2005" Editions on my computer? And what can I do with this failed part of the SP2. SQL Server Express update KB921896 fails to install with error code 00002b2. I've tried this update several times with no luck. HELP offered is no help. Can't find this error code, and there is no text with the code.
On my backup server running Symantec BackupExec 11D, I wanted to install Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005 Express. I started performing the update using "Windows Update", but cancelled the upgrade process just before it started to install (right after the downloading/verifying download phase of Windows update).
Now when I try to find the SP2 update using Windows Update, it doesnt show up on the update website. Rebooting the server doesnt help. I manually downloaded the file for SQL 2005 Express SP2 and tried installing it, but it says "the component is already installed" and I have to exit the process.
BackupExec 11D is running fine as of now, and it might not face problems later.. but I am not sure. Is there any way to uninstall SP2 and re-install it again!??
We deploy an application that uses SQL Server Express 2005. One of our test engineers tried to use our setup on Windows XP SP 3. But the SQL server installer gave an error - unable to update msxml6r.dll. Is this a bug of the SQL Server installer or do we need to make use of a more recent version of msxml6?

I have been through many Forums and newsgroups but I just end up in a loop.
Im trying to install the basic Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Without advanced services, toolkit and management studio.
First of all it incorrectly says I do not have the recommended specifications but I cant work out what I am missing. I have 20GB free HDD space. 1.2Ghz CPU, 512MB RAM, Windows XP Pro SP2. This meets the Minimum and Recommended. All the other system checks have green ticks so I just igore the warning about recommended specs and continue to install.
The options I change from the default settings are: 'Default Instance', Built in system account: Local Service, 'Mixed mode' with a password.
It installs the following parts successfully: MSXML6 SQL Setup support files SQL native Client SQL VSS Writer
As soon as it tries to install 'SQL server Database Services' it attempts to start MSSQLSERVER but fails. I try to start it manually and again it fails. I notice that the Service is looking for the file: "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLBinnsqlservr.exe -sMSSQLSERVER" However the only 2 folders that exist in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server" are "90" and "80", the "MSSQL" folder doesnt even exist.

I recently (yesterday) installed a fresh copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 applied.
I proceeded with Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions installation straight away.
But I cannot install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86.
I choose to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 component along with every component of visual studio but it simply would not install.
In the end, after the installation of each complete is complete, I simply get an error message saying that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition x86 failed to install.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition onto my PC on the D: drive. I do not have write privelleges to the C Drive. All I want to do is point the executable to install to another drive like D: or E: etc. Is this possible with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition setup executable file.
Just to let you know I have changed the template.ini file in the source folder to reflect the following (I tried both with and without quotes)

I have been receiving the update notice from MS about SQL 2005 Express Service Pack 2. I download it and install. It states successful installs but I get another message requesting the same update. It is Ground Hogs day and Deja Vu all over again.
Question:
Where do I find out if it actually installed?
How do I stop getting the messages from MS to download and install SQL 2005 Express Service Pack 2? I shut the the automatic update but if I turn it on a few days later. I get the same message.
Has anyone had a problem when installing service pack 2 or 3 on SQL Server 7.0? I'm stuck at MDAC upgrade every time, had to 'end task'. Did select @@version afterwards, still on the old version. I didn't try service pack 1 yet.

(1) Can I install visual studio 2008 without the 2005 express edition of SQL server? Will be any problems because I don't have express edition of SQL server? Do I need to install the express edition of SQL server as well?
