I have SQL Server and OLAP Server running on an NT Server box, and a pc running NT Workstation which has OLAP Manager installed on it. I can register the OLAP Server just fine in OLAP Manager, but it takes about 30sec to a minute for the pc to actually connect to the server.
We've also installed SQL Server and OLAP Server on a Win 2000 machine, and the OLAP connection is faster.
Could this be related to a network routing issue, OLAP or SQL server install issue?
I have a very complex Stored Procedure called by a Job that is Scheduled to run every night. It's execution takes sometimes 1 or 2 hours and sometimes 7 hours or more.
So, if it is running for more than 4 hours I stop the Job and I run the procedure from a Query Window and it never takes more than 2 hours.
Can anyone help me identify the problem ? I want to run from the Job and not to worry about it.
Some more information: - It is SQL 2000 Enterprise with SP4 in a Cluster (It happens the same way in any node). - The SQL Server and SQL Agent services run using a Domain Account that have full Administrative access. - When I connect to a Query Window I also use a Windows Account.
- There is no locks or process bloking or being blocked while the job is running. - Using the Task Manager the processor activity is ok, no more than 30 % in any processor.
Some users complain that there computers run slow around noon. later it is fine. Anybody can tell me what is the problem? We have entivirus software installed on. Also i am runing back up database on the server. Many thanks.
When i execute a stored procedure it generally takes about half a second to run but sometimes it takes 20 to 30 seconds. I am the only one using the server so I know it is not due to other traffic. I have looked at Profiler and nothing looks out of the ordinary. Another observation is that the slow ones are always near eachother. I will have about 10 fast executions and then 3 slow ones and then back to fast ones. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Hello , I'm a newbie,I programmed a store procedure, and when it runs in query analyzer, I get results very fast, but when I add it in a job, then this job run very very slow, (I add records and delete records in the SP), WHY?
We are having issues w/ a stored proc call in our application. When I run the proc through a query window in Mgmt Studio, it comes back in .3 seconds. However, when the application runs the proc (w/ the same parameters), it takes 30 seconds for the proc to complete. When I run a trace with the proc call through Mgmt Studio, it says 4000 read, but through the app, it says 4 million reads. What is happening?? (app uses Hibernate 3.2/ Java 1.5/ JDBC)
I am using SSIS packages for data transfer, When i run the package on virtual server it takes more time as when run on a PC. After analysing i found that Package when run on Virtual server takes time in startup around (50 sec) or so.Could anyone help me with a little bit of detail description as to why it runs slow.
I've installed SQL7.0 and OLAP service on my PC(windows 95), but I cannot find the OLAP Manager. Can an OLAP Manager be installed on Windows 95? If it cannot, can I create an OLAP database (or application) on my PC?
When I launch Outlook, it takes forever for the program to finally open. With any inbound email, it stops processing whatever is underway at the time....and frequently there is a 2-3 second lag between keyboard input and what appears on the screen. SQLserver is usually consuming upwards of 1-gb of memory....help. Mike
In order to install OLAP Services (the Client for the OLAP Manager specifically), do you need to have NT 4.0 or should you be able to install the client on Win95?
I have Win95 at my desktop and when I install OLAP Service, I only get the "MDX Sample Application" and the "Readme" file to install. During the setup, these are the only two options available for installation.
I'm trying to register a remote OLAP server under OLAP Manager. After I enter the machine name I get the following:
Errors occurred while connecting to <server>. Cannot open the following registry key on the server computer (<server>): SoftwareMicrosoftOLAP ServerServer Connection Info Do you still want to register this server?
The noticeable thing about this error message is that the registry key is missing the first level (HKEY_....). Has anyone been able to register a remote server? I can run OLAP Manager on the server without a problem. I just uninstalled and reinstalled OLAP services on the server and my desktop. There is a registry key with this path under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the server.
I can't get the OLAP Manager to install on my client PC running Windows95. It does install on the server running NT4.0. I want to remotely administer the OLAP, just like I do with the Enterprise Manager on the client. Anyone have any suggestions? Do you have to have NT on the client?
We have a quick query regarding SQL performance. We have SQL Server 2000 (32 Bit) and SQL Server 2005 (64 Bit) as twoseparate instances on a DB Server. We were analysing the execution times for the same stored procedure onboth instances:1. I am able to run a query which runs FAst in QA but slow in theapplication. It takes about 16 m in QA but 1000 ms on theApplication. What I wanted to know is why would the query take a longtime in the application when it runs fast on SQL server? How should we try debugging it?Ajay
I am running SQL Server 2012 on a VM and am trying to pull data from a network drive (S: or misvnascfs0003).I can import data using the Import Wizard and save the package as an SSIS package. When I try to Run the Package I get The Acquire Connection method call to the connection manager "SourceConnectionExcel" failed with the error...
If I save the file to the VM local drive the SSIS package run fine. When I log into SSIS through SSMS i have to run as "Administrator".
I have written a report visual studio. The report has 10 multi-value parameters that pull data from their individual data sets within the reports. When running the report from within Visual Studio it renders fine. There are no errors reported, only a warning related to a pathname I have use to retrieve image data and display on the report.Deployment of the report is error free. When I view the report I briefly get the "Loading" splash window, but then nothing. None of the headers or static text is displayed. The results window is blank.
The report defaults all the parameter values. In trying to debug the issue I have found by reducing the number of parameter values the report will render. Once I have all the values added, the report does nothing.Below is the query being used for the report. The where clause in the query shows the parameters being used and the syntax. We are running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

I have had a problem with Enterprise Manager connecting to SQL Server. At first this problem was experienced with one particular network user... whichever PC he logged onto, Enterprise Manager took ages to connect to SQL Server and every operation was painfully slow. Creating a new Windows NT logon fixed the problem.
I now have this same problem but only on my PC. It doesn't matter which Windows NT logon I use, using Enterprise Manager is painfully slow. I've tried creating a new Windows NT profile, checking the hard drive for errors, defragmenting the disk, reinstalling Enterprise Manager etc but nothing works.
What is strange is that connections from VB applications on my PC are fast. It is only Enterprise Manager that is slow.
I am using the latest service pack for SQL Server.
I thought it could be a problem with the Enterprise Manager registry values but don't want to start messing with them!
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advice would be great as I can't find any help from microsoft other than installing the latest service pack for SQL Server.
I am using a dial up connection to the Internet and to an online SQLServer database.I have a problem in that when I use Enterprise Manager to access evenmy local server , or even, it appears, when it is just open with noconnection to any SQL Server, I experience very slow data transferover my normal dial up connection.I am reasonably sure it is Enterprise Manager causing the problem aswhen I close it and redial I have an acceptable rate of data transferusing my dial up connection. Can anyone:a. support my conclusion that Enterprise Manager is the probablecause of the slow connection.b. suggest a solutionBest wishes, John Morgan
Hi,I am seeing very slow connections from some client enterprise managersto server. Even at server level it takes 1 minute or less to open adatabase. I have adjusted some of the memory for the SQL server, butthere are only about 60 Dbs on the server, totalling about 2 GBs.CPU is very low at all times, 1 GB of ram, p3 1.4Ghz. SQL 2k.I know I should refrag the disk, but is there anything else I can doto speed up SQL operation via enterprise manager--ODBC connections is fairly fast, as well as query analyzer.Adam
Hi,I have a table with about 70k rows. When I use open table --> returnall rows and then edit a field Enterprise Manager then says it has toreturn the entire result set for the update to take place. This can take a long time and makes editing data a slow process. Isthere any way to get Enterprise Manager just to update the one row??Thanks Tom
I'm trying to run an SSIS package. The package runs on an SQL 2005 server on Win2k3 server. The package tries to connect to another win2k3 server with sql 2000 to retrieve some data. However, I recieve the errormessage shown in the topic.
I found info about modifying the MSDTC security settings under "component services" and did so. I made sure everything was allowed. However, the result was the same. Does anyone have any other idéa about what could cause this problem?
PS. The package works fine if I set up both databases on the same physical machine...
Hi All, I am using the CSLA framework for the data access with SQL Server 2005 and we are not using distributed transaction. When we are using this architecture for our local machine it is working fine and our DB is in local machine itself. But I am getting the following error in our development server and our DB is in the Network. " DataPortal.Fetch failed (DataPortal.Fetch failed (DataPortal.Fetch failed (Network access for Distributed Transaction Manager (MSDTC) has been disabled. Please enable DTC for network access in the security configuration for MSDTC using the Component Services Administrative tool.))) ---> DataPortal_Fetch method call failed ---> DataPortal.Fetch failed (DataPortal.Fetch failed (Network access for Distributed Transaction Manager (MSDT... Our OLAP environment involves an ETL/Data Warehouse/Data Mart server and a cube publisher server. We would like to learn how to automate the Archival/Restore of OLAP databases. We are currently doing it manually though OLAP Manager. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. James.

I have a stored proceedure (which I will tag on at the end for those interested) which is taking at least 15 minutes to run when executed, but completes in 1 minute when the tsql statement is run in Query Analyser. Why is this?
I suspect that it may be connected to table indexing, but why then is this bypassed when QA is used?
Any advice appreciated.

We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.
This site receives the following error as seen in the topic: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.
We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:
Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Hi While running a DTS, many times the error message: "[DBNETLIB][ConnetionWrite (WrapperWrite()).]General network error. Check your network documentation." appears. Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.
My application is running fine, as i can login to it and also able to view pages. But when i open Order management(having 3K records) its give me error,
General Network Error. Check your network documentation
I have also searched many articles and tried following solutions but nothing working
- connectiontimeout = 0, max pool size = 7500/100, pooling = false
- SSL disabling enforce security false as mentioned in microsoft kb article.
And there's nothing any issue with hardware/firewall as my application's login and other forms are working fine(which use same database with same connection string)
