Ssis Oledb Connection Error Code: 0x80040E21.

Jan 25, 2007

howdy,
i have a sqlserver2005 ssis package which connects to a mysql webserver to upload data. i am connecting via mysql oledb connection and am able to test connect ok through the oledb connection manager. However in my ole db destination editor i get an 0x80040E21 error when trying to preview a table . The full error is :

Error at Data Flow Task [Destination - Query [70]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.

Error at Data Flow Task [Destination - Query [70]]: Opening a rowset for "INFORMATION_SCHEMA.address_book" failed. Check that the object exists in the database.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Exception from HRESULT: 0xC02020E8 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)

I can see all the tables in the drop down box in connection manager. This has been driving me nuts for the last 3 days! I have tried changing some of the security connection settings to no avail, (although i am not sure on what these do).I have also tried setting up as an odbc connection using script components but had memory errors after copying several hundred records and the package just hangs. I can go into this in more detail however i dont think they are related issues and i would prefer oledb as i dont have to script my data transfer.

any help much much appreciated.

thanks

Excel Source (351) Returned Error Code 0x80040E21

Oct 19, 2007

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The PrimeOutput method on component "Excel Source" (351) returned error code 0x80040E21.
The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput().
The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.

Here is my request: Print out the row number and the contents of the offending field when an error like this occurs.

Wish list item:Have One Switch that tells SSIS to keep going and skip bad row.
Now I have to tell it twice for every field and it still stops!

Enough already. Why let one bad record stop 65,000?

Purpose Of OLEDB Source Error Output?

Nov 6, 2007

This might be an ignorant question, but I can't figure this out.

What is the purpose of the Error output data flow from the OLEDB Source? I am trying to understand an example of what kind of "error" would cause a row to go down this path, and I can't come up with one.

Does anyone have a good example of how this could be useful?

OleDb Source Error - Connecting To Oracle 9i

Nov 14, 2006

Hi,
I have my datasource in Oracle9i and destination is Sql2005. I am connecting to Oracle 9i through OLEDb provider and when I connect to my DataSource using OLE DB Data Source, I get the following error:

Warning at "guid code": Cannot retreive the column code page info from the oledb provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale Id will be used.

Could anyone please help me trouble shoot this problem.

I'm receiving an Error Code: 0x80004005 ... a "non-specific error" when trying to use a fairly simple insert in the oleDB command transform. SQL command works fine if I specify the parameters in the values clause of the INSERT statement. If however, I try to use the parameters in setting a variable, I get the 0x80004005 error. Is this a known issue/limitation, or am I just reallly doing something wrong?

(Project Real Implementation) Error Code: 0x80004005 OLEDB Connection To SQL Server

Mar 25, 2008

Hi List
Im trying to set up an implementation of Project Real --it works like this-
Create two system environment variables called REAL_Root_Dir and
REAL_Configuration with the values given below. Click on
Start -> Control Panel -> System. Go to the Advanced Panel, click Environment Variables button, then New in the System variables box.

If the Project REAL files were installed at C:Microsoft Project REAL, then the variable values will be:

Variable Name: REAL_Root_Dir
Variable Value: C:Microsoft Project REALETL

Variable Name: REAL_Configuration
Variable Value: %REAL_Root_Dir%REAL_Config.dtsconfig

The package OLEDB connections work like this
First read enviroment variable to get location of config file
Next read Config File to get connection string for Config Database
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<DTSConfiguration>
<Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Connections[SQL - Configuration].Properties[ConnectionString]" ValueType="String">
<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=(local);Initial Catalog=DataWarehouseABC;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>
</DTSConfiguration>
Next read Config database to get connection strings for Source and Destination databases

Destination database is called "DataWarehouseABC"
Source database is called "SnapshotABC"

the Source database OLEDB connection works 100%
however the destination OLDB connection we get this error below
PS--Both source and destination databases are on the same development machine , however both databases are restored bak files from another production machine

Error 1 Error loading LoadGroup_Daily.dtsx: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Custom Source Adapter UI

Jun 22, 2006

I am currently writing a custom source adapter that extracts data from a JD Edwards OneWorld system. In the custom user interface of the source component I need to allow the user to set a query (a custom property), and then refresh a list of output columns that will be extracted based upon that query (similar to the list shown in the advanced editor).

My question is, can I apply the custom property change to the component and build my output column list without closing and restarting my custom UI form? I understand that the IDTSComponentUI interface being implemented allows for transactional editing of the component, in that the changes to the component are not applied until I have returned a result in the implemented Edit() method. However is there a way to apply changes without returning this result (and closing my UI)?

Essentially I am looking to have similar behaviour to that of the 'Refresh' button in the advanced component editor form.

Thanks

Reading Dates From An XML Source Adapter

Oct 30, 2007

I am using an "XML Source Adapter" in an SSIS Package to try and load an XML file into a database table. But having trouble with a date field.
The XSD defines the field as:-

<xs:element minOccurs="1" name="DateTime" type="xs: string" />

The XML looks like this:-

<DateTime>12/31/2007 10:12:14.123</DateTime>

And the database table column is defined:-

[DateTime] [datetime] NOT NULL,

So in the Data Flow I have a "Data Conversion Transformation" converting [DT_WSTR] to [DT_DBTIMESTAMP].
However, when I run the package I get:-

Error: 0xC02020C5 at Load XXX File, Data Conversion 1 [13550]: Data conversion failed while converting column "DateTime" (15100) to column "DateTimeDT" (15422). The conversion returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".

So what how do I fix it?
I don't mind losing some miliseconds of precision, so I have tried configuring the error output of the Data Conversion for this field to "ignore failure" for "Truncation". But that seems to have no effect.

I'd be happy to change the XSD to:

<xs:element minOccurs="1" name="DateTime" type="xs:dateTime" />

But the "XML Data Flow Source" doesn't seem to support the dateTime data type.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Logging From A Custom Source Adapter

I couldn't find my useful information in MSDN, it mostly applies to logging from inside a script task.

I'd like to log my messages along with all the other SSIS package log entries, which I have going to the dts log table.

I'm assuming I should be using some functionality from Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.RunTime, probably the LogProvider.

Can anyone advise?

XML TASK XSL Variable: Exception 'Property New Source Has No Source Xml Text'

Dec 20, 2005

Hi,
I want to transform an xml flow to an html flow. For this, I create an XmlDataDocument, I add on it, all that I want, and I store it in a file (in a dataflow task).
After that, in an xml task, I set the input properties like that:
Operation type: xslt
SourceType: File connection
Source: ras.xml

All works fine. But now, I want to use a variable to store my xml data. So, instead of storing my data in ras.xml, I store it in a variable like that:

Dim v As Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSVariables90
Me.VariableDispenser.LockOneForWrite("RAS", v)
v("RAS").Value = doc.OuterXml
v.Unlock()

and in the xml task, I set configuration like that:

Operation type: xslt
SourceType: Variable
Source: user::RAS

But when I execute, I got this following exception:

Error: 0xC002F304 at Format HTML Mail, XML Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "Root element is missing.".
Error: 0xC002928F at Format HTML Mail, XML Task: Property "New Source" has no source Xml text; Xml Text is either invalid, null or empty string.

Furthermore, when I want to debug it, in replacing the xml task, by a script task, I can see that in my RAS variable, I get the xml data which is well formed.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<root> €¦
</root>

(When I store it in a file, I can see it in IE)

Have you got an idea ?

XML Source Adapter Inserts NULLS Into SQL Instead Of Blanks

Jul 3, 2007

I'm working on a new project using SSIS in SQL Server 2005 and have an issue that I need resolved.

I'm loading an XML file into SSIS using the XML Source Adapter. This maps to an OLE DB destination which reads the data into a SQL table (please see below for the table structure). In between this stage is a data conversion to convert the Unicode characters from XML into non-Unicode characters.

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[XMLTest](

[Forename] [varchar](50) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL,

[Surname] [varchar](50) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL,

[PostCode] [varchar](50) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL

)

The problem I have is with blank strings in xml are being inserted into the SQL table as NULL values and not blanks (see the xml below).

<Root>
<People>
<Forename>Duncan3</Forename>
<Surname></Surname>
<PostCode>ME16 0WH</PostCode>
</People>
</Root>

Correct me if I'm wrong but a null value in xml means the node does not exist (See the xml below)?

<Root>
<People>
<Forename>Duncan3</Forename>
<PostCode>ME16 0WH</PostCode>
</People>
</Root>

Please also find the schema attached for reference.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xschema attributeFormDefault="unqualified" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
<xs:element name="Root">
<xs:complexType>
<xsequence>
<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="People">
<xs:complexType>
<xsequence>
<xs:element minOccurs="1" name="Forename" type="xstring" />
<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="Surname" type="xstring" />
<xs:element minOccurs="1" name="PostCode" type="xstring" />
</xsequence>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>
</xsequence>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>

SSIS XML Source Adapter Can't Make XSD Location An Expression

Nov 21, 2007

I am using the "XML Source Adapter" in an SSIS package.
I notice that although you can specify the XML filename as an expression, the XSD appears to have to be a fixed file path.
This is a problem for me since the path for the XSD is different in my development than it will be in production (in production it's on drive E:, which I don't have).

I'd like to have the file location specified in the config file, but since I can't make it an expression how can I do that?

Also, since they don't have Connection Managers I can't switch DelayValidation on.

Thanks.

Dynamic Queries With Data Reader Source Adapter

Apr 16, 2008

I am a business user trying to build an incremental ETL package with SSIS. I have a working prototype on SQL Server 2005 where I select the max(ID) from the last successful run and pass that value into a variable. Then, in my Data Flow step, I select an OLE DB source adapter and use this variable in a custom select statement.

Here's my challenge....the live data is actually in a Postgres DB so I have to use a Data Reader Source adapter. When I try to pass my variable to this adapter the job bombs out. Does anyone know how to dynamically update the query text inside a Data Reader source adapter using variables or otherwise?

Query Results SSIS Data Flow Source Adapter

Jun 1, 2006

Hi,
Quick question on how SSIS handles queries from Data Source in a Data Flow. I noticed that when I run a particular query from Query Analyzer it takes forever. But, when I run the same query in SSIS data source in a data flow. The query results are immediate.

The query plan is already cached in SQL.

Is this just something which I am seeing incorrect or is there some bit of optimization in there in SSIS. As per my understanding SSIS does not optimize the source query.

Thanks,
Gaurav

OLEDB Source Control

Jan 15, 2008

I was having one package which uses a source query in OLEDB Source Control and fetches the record and a couple of lookups and then an oledb command to insert/update the records in the table using as SP. I changed the source query(Infact the package) and removed in lookup and a different SP was called similar to the old one. But my problem is the package which was before taking only minutes to update 50,000 records is now taking more than 2 hrs. The problem is the number of records it is fetching from the source each time is very less.. its fetching hardly 500 records a time compared to nearly 2500 records before. Where am i going wrong? Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

MDX OLEDB Source Vs Datareader

Feb 12, 2008

Hi,

I am running an MDX query in SSIS but I don't know what is the best way of doing this, performance wise.
I know I can run the MDX query through an openquery in the OLEDB, and also run it through a Datareader, no openquery needed.

I know the datareader is slower in a normal basis due to .Net, but in this case the OLEDB is running an open query to a linked server which won't be fast like running a regular SQL.

If anyone knows which of this two run faster in this scenario I'll appretiate if you let me know.

OleDB Source And Parameters

May 11, 2007

Hi,

Firtsly - I am new to SSIS if my approach could be improved then I welcome suggestions.

Scenario: I have a large SSIS package that consolidates / summarizes work week information from several data sources. Currently each data flow task in the control flow calculates the from and to date that is filtered on, for example:

DECLARE @FromDT AS DATETIME
SET @FromDT = CAST(FLOOR( CAST( DATEADD(D, -7, GETDATE()) AS FLOAT ) ) AS DATETIME)

DECLARE @ToDT AS DATETIME
SET @ToDT = CAST(FLOOR( CAST( GETDATE() AS FLOAT ) ) AS DATETIME)

I would like to remove these statements that appear in most steps and replace them with a global variable that is used throughout the package. This statement would only appear once & it would make the package much easier to run after failure etc.

Problem: I am using Data Reader Source with the 'SQLCommand' property specified. It looks like parameters are only supported if an OleDB connection is used?

So I switched to an OleDB connection and no parameters are recognised in the string - a forum search reveals that parameters in sub queries are not always found properly. The solution to this problem appears to be, to set 'Bypass Prepare' to True but this is a property for the Execute SQL task, not the Data Flow Task source.

Questions:

Does the Data Reader Source control from Data Flow Source toolbox section support parameters?
Can anyone suggest a fix to the OleDB Source issue with Parameters?
Is there a better way to solve my problem e.g. Using Execute SQL Task instead of Data Flow tasks etc

Example SQL:

This SQL is an example of the SQL for the OleDB Data Source (within a Data Flow task)

------------------------------
--RADIUS LOGINS
------------------------------
DECLARE @FromDT AS DATETIME
SET @FromDT = CAST(FLOOR( CAST( DATEADD(D, -7, GETDATE()) AS FLOAT ) ) AS DATETIME)

DECLARE @ToDT AS DATETIME
SET @ToDT = CAST(FLOOR( CAST( GETDATE() AS FLOAT ) ) AS DATETIME)

DECLARE @Attempts AS BIGINT
SET @Attempts =
(SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM dbo.Radius_Login_Records
WHERE LoggedAt BETWEEN @FromDT AND @ToDT)

DECLARE @Failures AS BIGINT
SET @Failures =
(SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM dbo.Radius_Login_Records
WHERE LoggedAt BETWEEN @FromDT AND @ToDT
AND Authen_Failure_Code IS NOT NULL)

DECLARE @Successes AS BIGINT
SET @Successes = @Attempts - @Failures

DECLARE @OcaV1Hits AS BIGINT
SET @OcaV1Hits = (SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT LoginName)
FROM dbo.Radius_Login_Records
WHERE LoggedAt BETWEEN
@FromDT AND @ToDT
AND EAPTypeID = 25)

DECLARE @OcaV2Hits AS BIGINT
SET @OcaV2Hits = (SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT LoginName) AS OcaV2Hits
FROM dbo.Radius_Login_Records
WHERE LoggedAt BETWEEN
@FromDT AND @ToDT
AND EAPTypeID = 13)

SELECT
@Attempts AS ConnectionAttempts,
@Failures AS ConnectionFailures,
(CAST(@Successes AS DECIMAL(38,2)) / CAST(@Attempts AS FLOAT) * 100) AS SuccessRate,
@OcaV1Hits AS OcaV1Hits,
@OcaV2Hits AS OcaV2Hits

Please remember, I'm new to SSIS - so be detailed in your response. Thanks for your help!

Debugging OLEDB Source Component

Apr 29, 2008

I am debugging a Data Flow task in my SSIS package. When I run the package in debug mode, one of the OLEDB Data Sources turns red. I have rerouted all Error Output to a flat file, and put a Data Viewer on that path: no rows get sent. When I click the Preview button on this component in Design mode, I see the expected data and get no error messages. The connection does a simple table access...no SQL command. I don't see anything different between this component and other OLEDB sources in the same package that don't trigger any errors. I've tried dropping and re-creating the component with the same results.

What else can I do to debug this?
