Are there any restrictions in the restored database after database mirroring?
I mean, Is it full mirror of my primary database?
What I want to do:
If my machine A(with primary database) will down I will redirect my clients to a real-time copied database - mirror server. I don't want to create cluster, but I want to use database mirroring function in ms sql 2005.
My question is fairly simple. When I join between two tables, I always use the ON syntax. For example:
SELECT
* FROM
Users
JOIN UserRoles
ON (Users.UserRoleId = UserRoles.UserRoleId)
No problems there. However, if I then decide to further filter the selection based on some trait of the UserRole, I have two options: I can add the condition as a WHERE statement, or I can add the condition within the ON block.
--Version 1:
SELECT
* FROM
Users
JOIN UserRoles
ON (Users.UserRoleId = UserRoles.UserRoleId) WHERE
UserRoles.Active = 'TRUE'
-- Version 2
SELECT
* FROM
Users
JOIN UserRoles
ON (Users.UserRoleId = UserRoles.UserRoleId
AND UserRoles.Active = 'TRUE')
So, the question is, which is faster/better, if either? The Query Analyzer shows the two queries have the exact same execution plan, which makes sense, since they're both joining the same tables. However, I'm wondering if adding the condition in the ON statement results in fewer rows the JOIN statement initially needs to join up, thus reducing the overall initial size of the results table before the WHERE conditions are applied.
So is there a difference, performance wise? I imagine that if Users had a thousand records, and UserRoles had 10 records, then the JOIN would create a cartesian product of the two tables, resulting in 10,000 records in the table before the WHERE conditions are applied. However, if only three of the UserRoles is set to Active, would that mean that the resulting table, before applying WHERE conditions, would only contain 3000 records?
Using SQL Server 2008, we would like propose mirroring between two servers of a critical database. Since we initiate, may require to clarify on its purpose and also required changes from application end.Any changes required from OS Level? (I believe both servers IP or Host name should be added in host entries. Mirroring ports should be allowed/open including Principal and mirror server IP Addresses): Windows Team.Any changes required from Application? (Instance name, authentication: user name and its password should be added in web config files): Application Team.Any changes required from Network Team? Also for mirroring both the principal and mirror servers should be with same version, does it only mean SQL Server 2008 versions are enough or does it also mean to say build numbers 10.00.4000 should also be same.URL....
I need to set up asyncronous data replication across two clustered instances of SQL 2012 across 2 Datacenters. Both the datacenters have a common domain however the vlans are different. There are only 3 small databases on the primary instance.
any issue in setting up mirroring in this case as vlans are different.
Hi All, I am working on a server movement work. The application is moving from sql server 2000/windows 2000 to sql server2005/windows 2003.I have a DTS package including some stored procedures which operates on the sql server. I am using xp_cmdshell for copying and deleting excel files. And I am using microsoft.jet.4.0 to fill the excel file with data from a temp table. The dts goes fine but it is not copying the excel template from one location to other.Again while deleting the 2 months old file i got an error saying cannot delete the files. It was running correctly in sqlserver 2000.I have enabled the xp_cmdshell feature in the configuration. Please help me and suggest me. Thanks
I currently run SQL Server 2005 64-bit Developer Edition (Service Pack 2 - it will be SP 3 as soon as I can get hold of it). I am running this on a stand-alone box with Windows Server 2003 as the OS.
Soon, I will be buying another computer for a colleague who will be running SQL Server as specified above. However, I am not happy with Windows Server and am wondering about changing to either XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit. The machine will not be networked.
I would welcome advice on this since, in some ways, I would be happy enough to use XP or Vista, and think that 64-bit development is more likely on Vista than on other Windows OS's. However, I am not convinced that SQL Server 2005 works with Vista and, like everyone else, have heard plenty of complaints about Vista.
Can someone please assist, we have a Database roughly 10GB in size,
For the past 2 days now we get the following errors. //////// FCB::Open failed: Could not open file D:MSSQL.1MSSQLDataHelpdesk.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(error not found).

I have code that instantiates a sqlserver object and starts a job. Ihave used this on numerous XP workstations successfully, when I triedto move this to a Windows 2000 Application Server attached to a SmallBusiness Windows 2003 network and run the code, I am receiving theerror:Automation Error. The Operating System Cannot Run %1.(Error Number -2147024714)The following is a code snippet:*********Dim app As New SQLDMO.ApplicationDim oSQLServer As New SQLDMO.SQLServerDim oJob As SQLDMO.JoboSQLServer.LoginTimeout = 30 ' ERROR OCCURS HEREoSQLServer.LoginSecure = True**********The code fails when setting the LoginTimout parameter. The SQLDMO.dllhas been registered successfully on the server.Any ideas whey the behavior of this code is different on my applicationserver vs the client workstations on the network?ThanksMike G

Hi, who have ever met the following errors, share an information of what could cause it??? I can't find any info that could help me find the reason. My DB went to SUSPECT mode and in the log file I got:
ForwardLogBlockReadAheadAsync: Operating system error 997(Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.) encountered.
Operating system error 997(Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.) on device 'd:MSSQLdataiservice_Log2.ldf' during ForwardLogBlockReadAheadAsync.
Error: 3414, Severity: 21, State: 1
Error: 9001, Severity: 21, State: 1
Unexpected error while commiting a ShrinkFile operation /*************************/
What is weird the 997 error occured twice during last night and the DB went into suspect mode only after the sencond one.
The database restored but it's a second time for the last month just getting a bit annoying.
Im trying to run dtsrun twice in one OSC job step e.g.
DTSRUN /F "path to dts package" /E DTSRUN /F "path to dts package2" /E
Im finding that it always runs the first line but never the second. I tried swapping the lines around and it then runs the other because tht is the first line. Again the second line won't run.
Iam using HP iPAq hw6500 series PDA. My application in installed in the PDA and when i try to open the application by taping on the application icon, Iam getting the following error.

Can anyone help to figure out the possible reason for this error?
We are using SQL Server Compact Edition v3.1. We have 2 users running on Windows XP with Service Pack 2, who are getting errors that the Operating System does not support encryption when creating a new database. The problem is not with the code, one of the users installed the same software on a different Windows XP system and the software operates correctly. We also have many other installations that are working properly as well, so it appears to be something specific to these 2 computers.
We've had the user try repairing their .NET Framework 2.0 install, in addition to confirming that the
Crypt32.DLL and CryptUI.DLL dependencies are both present and of the correct version in WindowsSystem32. We've also verified that the users do have write access in the directory we are trying to create the database.
Is there something we can do to fix encryption on these users systems or something the users may have done to disable encryption?
I'm just learning Transact-SQL, so pardon if this is a dumb question. I would like to perform operations on neigboring rows in a database table column, and I have no idea how to do this. Say I have the following table:
Date (smalldatetime) | Value (money) date1 | value1 date2 | value2 ... dateN | valueN
hi, I am working on SQL server 6.5 using a desk top. Now I am about to buy a note book and do some development work. As far as I know, win 95,98 does not support SQL server 6.5
But SQL sever 7.0 does support win 95,98 Am I correct? I am confuzed, what notebook operating system shall I buy which will allow me to work on sql development on the road.
another issues is what if I choose to use win 98 for sql server 7.0 what are the things that I will be missing . In other word, what are the limitation that I may have when acquiring win 98 as an operating system for sql server 7.0..
Hi there. Could someone help me out. I'm performing a log restore and getting the following error within the SQL Server Error Log.
During restore restart, an I/O error occurred on checkpoint file 'G:MSSQL.1MSSQLBackupdxsh.CKP' (operating system error 1784(error not found)). The statement is proceeding but cannot be restarted. Ensure that a valid storage location exists for the checkpoint file.
IT's a very basic Restore command and i do have not specified it to Restart.
Having checked the MS website for 1784 it suggests the following:
The supplied user buffer is not valid for the requested operation
Can anyone tell me what is wrong here and why it is creating a checkpoint file or even what it is and how to overcome the error message.
i believe this is the right thread... i recently had an issue where my xpstar.dll would not register and i read to fix the issue to reapply the SP so i installed SP4 i now am getting this error... please help!
Hi all,Can anyone help me with a script which would delete files ormove them to a different folder at some scheduled time..!Please.....!!!Thanks in advance...
I was going over this article , and was intrigued by this statement "If SQL Server 2005 Express is running on Windows XP Home, it is limited to five simultaneous connections. If it is running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional, it is limited to 10 simultaneous connections. However, these are limitations of the operating system and not of SQL Server 2005 Express."
What are simultaneous connections? Is this related to Max worker threads defined as 255 on other editions? How does underlying OS impose how many connections can be done to SQL server. And finally how many simultaneous connections can be done in Windows Server 2003?
I read the online document, It seems that SSCE3.5 could support windows xp 64 bit operating system with WOW. but SSCE3.0 did not mention.
my appliaction is using SSCE3.0 on windows xp 32 bit operating system right now. I want it to be also used on windows xp 64 bit. but it seems that SSCE3.0 does not support it.
could anyone please give some suggestion? any idea and suggestion will be appreciated.
I am unable to change the mirror operating mode on a test database mirror I have set up. I installed (from MSDN) the RTM SQL 2005 Std Edition and applied SP1, then set up a mirror, which works fine but only on High Safety mode. I want to use High Performance mode, but the operation mode radio buttons are greyed out for me in the mirror properties page. Also, I tried running: alter database TestDB set safety off and recieve the error: Msg 1473, Level 16, State 6, Line 1 This SQL Server edition does not allow changing the safety level. ALTER DATABASE command failed.
Are the various mirror modes not supported on the Std edition or am I overlooking something?
Thanks.

I am working in a C# database application quick test where I basically use two types of access to an SQL Server Express database. In the first part of the code, I use the traditional connection declaring a SqlConnection. When I just use only this kind of connection I do not have any problem. The issue starts when I access to the same database using Data Bindigs at the same time. When I start the application I got and error as soon as the instruction goes to open the data base connection. The reported error is "Unable to open the physical file "<Niños.mdf>". Operating System Error 32: (Process does not have access to the file because is being using by another process)"
For additional information my connection string is:
One of our dba's runs a process every night to update the database with a daily data file received from an external source. He was testing on a new SQL Server 2012/Windows 2012 R2 cluster that has an Availability Group. While trying to process INSERTs, the process failed with a error: "could not allocate a new page for database X because of insufficient disk space in filegroup PRIMARY."
The log also contains "Operating System Error 1237 (The operating could not be completed. A retry should be performed) encountered".
However, there is 300 GB free on the data drive (E:) where the .mdf file is located. The SQL Server service account has the "Perform Volume Maintenance Tasks" permission (instant file initialization).
All of the disks are VMware 5.1 or 5.5 VM's and the E: disk has thick/eager zero provisioning.
