I am new to SQL querying and I came across an issue while experimenting.
Say, I have two tables like the following, a Users table at the top, and a Roles table at the bottom (drawing the issue as I'm not fluent in English to explain):
The Roles table was changed to include a new column Roles.RoleId and the old column is named Roles.RoleOldId. Same is done for Users table.
Assume these are not foreign and/or primary keys. How can I fill Users.RoleId with new Roles.RoleIds, matching RoleOldIds at each tables? The resulting (x, y, z) set of Users table will be (10, 20, 20).
I need to write a statement that returns the name, city, and state of each vendor that’s located in a unique city and state. In other words, I can not include vendors that have a city and state in common with another vendor.
I have a table that I would like to update with the current dateTime of Today. The Table Field is called "DateTimeStamp" with a format of SmallDateTime -- I'm using VS 2008. When I use the following command and then cmd.ExecuteNonQuery -- the table is correclty filled in with the exception of the DateTimeStamp field. Instead of 3/23/2008, I get the value 1/1/1900 ... SqlCommand cmd3 = new SqlCommand("UPDATE CameraPods SET CameraBlock1_ID = 98, CameraBlock2_ID = 99, Status = 1, DateTimeStamp = 3/3/2008"); any ideas? ---Jim

I have a table of parts which has a Tag column. The table is such that two parts can share a tag (but no more than two parts), essentially pairing them. I would like to use SSIS to match the parts based on this column value, so that I can add these into a new table.
For example, I could have:
(part1, tag-123, "a random part", serial123) and (part2, tag-123, "another random part", serialxyz)
in the table, and would then concatenate the pair to enter into a new table, such that I have:
(part1, tag-123, "a random part", serial123, part2, tag-123, "another random part", serialxyz)
I'm new to SSIS and am unsure how I could achieve this, so if anyone could show me how I would appreciate it.
I am trying to pull the records which are being affected i.e, comparing the values and if not same then populating the record.
I am using the below condition in where clause however i am getting runt time error as "Conversion failure when converting date and/or time from character string"

I have tables in my database, tblNames1, tblNames2, tblNames3 for ex, and for addresses tblAddresses, can I match the address IDs in the names tables to the address table based on the values of a field? In this case CompanyName. Can they be matched automatically? My issue is that I have a huge CSV file with all the address information that needs to be assigned a foreign key based on the company name field which is also present in all the names tables, all the names are normalized.
I want to check for multiple patterns in a particular column. For one pattern I can write e.g. SELECT * FROM <TablName> WHERE ColumnName LIKE '%abcd%'.

Select fnGetOwner(OwnerName) from OwnerTable. This returns: Smith, John Smith, Mary How do I populate the blank Owner field beside the OwnerName in the OwnerTable?

We have SharePoint list which has, say, two columns. Column A and Column B.
Column A can have three values - red, blue & green.
Column B can have four values - pen, marker, pencil & highlighter.
A typical view of list can be:

Sorry I'm pretty new to SQL so I don't know if this is a simple question. I have a table, and I am trying to add a column to the table and populate this column using what would be called an 'IF' function in Excel.
Basically 'column A' has numbers in it. I want SQL to look at 'column A' and if the first 5 digits of the number in 'column A' are 00001, then put 'description A' into new column 'column B'. If the first 5 digits of the number in 'column A' are 00002, then put 'description B' into 'column A' etc.
I have a table of id numbers that I wish to mask. My thought was to create a new column for this new id number and populate it with a unique sequential value - start at 1 and go as high as needed. My problem is that I cannot recall how to populate that column with a number...
I have a table that has product name and submissionID and some other columns. I am really concerned about these two columns. My task is to get all the submissionIDs for a particular product name and display SubmissionIDs seperated by commas against each product name . I have an SSIS package that imports data from an Excel file, replaces any value in Excel that reads "NULL" to "", then writes the data to a couple of databases.
What I have discovered today, is I have two columns of dates, an admit date and discharge date column, and what I need to do is anywhere I have a null value in the discharge date column, I have to replace it with the value in the admit date column.
I have searched around online and tried a few things using the Replace funtion in Derived columns but no dice so far.
I'm having some issues getting OLE DB Data Sources to work w stored procs in SSIS. Here's the situation.
I have an OLE DB Data Source set up to call a stored proc w no parameters. The stored procedure loops through a set of databases and inserts data from each database into a results table. I'm attempting to return the results table to SSIS, but the Available External Columns are not populating. However, previewing the query in SSIS does show results. The insert in to the results table is done by a call to sp_executesql.
I've tried setting the results table up as a temp table, table variable, and static table. I have NOCOUNT set ON and am only returning one recordset. I've seen the other threads in here about similar problems, but none of their solutions seem to work for me.
I want to write a statement something like this SELECT Add_Date, File_No FROM dbo.File_Storage WHERE (File_No = 11/11/1234/) But i want the search to ignore the first 2 digits so that it will return e.g 10/11/1234, 09/11/1234 so that it's only matching the last part Any Help Would be greatly appreciated Thanks
I have tables and a function as representated by the code below. The names for objects here are just for representation and not the actual names of objects. Table RDTEST may have one or multiple values for RD for each PID. So the function GIVERD will return one or multiple values of RD for each value of PID passed to it.
When I run the following query, I get the required result except the rows for CID 500 for which PID is NULL in table T1. I want the rows for CID 500 as well with PID values as NULL.

I have a table that stores part numbers and manufactuers. Somehow this table has become corrupt showing different manufacturers with the same part numbers.
I know this will take a bit of manual digging to fix, but I want to find a way to pull all rows that have the same part number that have different manufacturers, or just pull up any "duplicate" part numbers and I can determine what is right or wrong as far as the manufactuers and make those changes.
I have tried this, but it does not seem to want to work.

I have tried other variations of the same, but nothing seems to want to show me just the items that have the same part numnbers and different manufacturers. I do not care if there are duplicates of the same part number/manufacturer entries, just if the part number is duplicated where the manufacturers are not the same.
These are the rows I want to edit and group by part number. I have almost a million rows of entries and this is not something I want to go through row by row. :-P
I'm working on a join between two tables where I only want one row returned... I'm matching on two columns between two tables. One of those columns in the target table could be null. I only want one record returned.

Once I've imported the address data I need to match the addressIDs in the names tables to the Primary ID in the address table based on the values of a field CompanyName (which is common to all the tables) My issue is that I have a huge CSV file with the master address information but obviously SQL server needs to assign foreign keys so the names tables can linked to corresponding rows in address table. It's a a many to 1 relationship as their will be one address with multiple name entries. All the names are normalized so everything can be matched up...
If you use a component that has a column mapping tab (most do) then you know that the component will try and map input and output columns automatically by name.
Is there a way to disable this feature when writing your own custom components? There is already a manual way to do this: rightmouse in the mappings tab of a component and chosen "Map Items By Matching Names". I find it is less helpful to auto-map initially because the designer tends to not think about the mappings.
A way of turning of auto-mapping in existing components would be cool too!
I have a strange request that might not be possible based on the laws of relational databases but I thought I'd give it a try.
I have three tables which for simplicity I will call A, B and C. Table A contains my master records, Table B contains user details and the final table contains some extra data
In my initial search when joining A and B, I return 100 records. I then need to search in table C for these 100 records based on a criteria. the expected result should return all 100 rows for the ones that match and also the ones that do not match. The problem is that in Table C, not all the 100 IDs exist, so there will not be a corresponding record. Unfortunately, our users still want to see all 100 records in the output. Is this possible

I have SQL Server 2012 SSIS. I have Excel source and OLE DB Destination.I have problem with importing CustomerSales column.CustomerSales values like 1000.00,2000.10,3000.30,NotAvailable.So I have decimal values and nvarchar mixed in on Excel column. This is requirement for solution.However SSIS reads only numeric values correctly and nvarchar values are set as Null. Why?
Bitmask fields! I am capturing row changes manually via a high frequency ETL task. It works effectively however i am capturing the movement of multiple fields. A simple example, for Order lines, i have a price, a discount and a date. I am capturing a 001, 010, 100 respectively for each change.
I would like my users to be able to select from a dimension which has the 3 members in it and they can select one, multiples, or all values (i.e. only want to see rows that have had the date and price changed).
Obviously if i only had 3 columns i would use bit's and be done with it, i have many different values (currently around 24 and growing).
Basically it's converting certain row values to new column. Every PloicyNum will have 1001 to 1006 Fixed InsCode values as a group.
Rule-1: InsCode value 1001 should always mapped to 1005 InsCode value 1002 should always mapped to 1006 InsCode value 1003 should always mapped to 1004
Rule-2: For a policyNum, If any Inscode value is missed from the group values 1001 to 1006, still need to mapped with corresponding values as shown in Rule-1
