Having just discovered that linked reports do not retain any print formating applied to the original report I thought I'd check out the forum and see if it was just me having a senile moment or if Microsoft had in fact dropped a clanger of massive proportion.
After reading one or two questions from other RS users it does seem as if Microsoft have stuck again and completely diminished a useful feature by stripping it of anything, well....... useful. Well done MS, you once again have my applause for mind-boggling ineptitude of what should be impossible magnitude. Ah, you've got to laugh.
Maybe this and other bugs with RS2005 will be ironed out in Microsoft Reporting Services 2008 - The Search for More Money.
I created a parameterized report. When end user select different values from the parameter drop down list , he/she can see the corresponding report for each value.
Now end user wants to print all those reports at the same time , without selecting each report by changing the parameter values.
Dependingon the printer, the report prints differently. Sometimes it's all messed up on certain printers on others it prints fine. I see the problem mostly with older HP printers..
While working in the report project in Visual Studio, I set my Report Layout to 14w x 8.5h with .25 margins on all sides, and the page size to be 13.5in (to take into account the margins). When I print from the report viewer control in Preview mode, the report prints as it should, in Landscape on Legal paper without me changing any settings.
When I deploy the same report to the report server, and print from there, the report prints in Landscape on Letter paper (which causes some columns to print on a second page).
Why is there a difference in the two environments? Is there something I'm missing?
The goal is for the users to be able to print the report correctly without having them change any print settings in the dialog.
I want to print the format of a table. You can view the format from enterprise manager under properties, but I was wondering if there is some command that you can use in query analyser to view the stucture of a table?
I'm using vs2005. I can't print the reports by clicking the print icon only once, i have to do it twice.
After clicking OK in the print dialog box, I can see a pop up message that says it is printing but actually it is not printing, then if I repeat the process it will print. What could be the problem here? Please help. Thanks in advance. :)
Ok, so I have a report that is generating product labels on a standard mailing lable sheet (30 of them on a 8.5X11 sheet of stock). The whole process works just fine even the printing of the bar codes when I am printing the lables from VS2005's Preview function. However, when I moved the report to our reports server and run the same report, the barcodes don't print out. I have checked, and the barcode font has been installed on the server.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Eric-
Since SP2 was installed on our SSRS server a couple of days ago, reports viewed in the client Report Viewer control (with or without VS SP1) show a black background when in Print Layout Mode. All other rendering options work fine. Anyone else seen this? Any clues how to fix?
What I am trying to do is to open an existing report in a Print Friendly format . What is the simplest way to do this using Visual Studio?
Here's the sort of thing I hope is feasible:
I can open my Report on a web page , then on that page can be a button / link for the user in case they want to open that report in a separate window. So I'd like to jump to that page by jumping to an URL and sending all parameters
something like :
http://Dev_Server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fMy+Reports%2fTest+Report&rsaramOne=Parameters!paramOne.value + paramTwo=Parameters!paramTwo.value + etc all other parameters , I have on that report
I have a report that the user can print right from the RS site on three pages (each page one page wide). However, when I have the server email the report as an attachment in Excel; Excel tries to print it on four pages with one of the pages spilling over into the fourth page.
How can I get Excel to format the print version just as I have on the RS site?
We use an internal tool that can display ASP pages. I would like to use SQL Reporting Services to create reports in ASP format. The ASP page will access the database to get data. Is this possible possible with Reporting Services?
We have developed few reports through SQL Server Reporting Service 2005. All those reports are columnar graphs (BAR charts). One of the requirement of the project is to have the ability to export the report in different formats. Since our reports are columnar graphs we are unable to export it to CSV or MHTML format. Is there are setting in the report, which allows me to display the values, when exported to csv format? also is there any setting for MHTML format. Some machine open the report in MHTML format and some machine does not.
Perhaps i'm missing something but when i update the master report and then go and run the linked report, it's not updating? Is this a known issue?
If i update the master and re-link the linked report, then all is well? Shouldn't the linked report reflect the master report in real-time and i shouldn't have to re-link the report?
I created a base report that covers most of my reporting requirements. I created linked reports using different parameters. Is there a way to transfer linked reports from my development report server to the production report server?
I would have used report models but my system architecture uses a different database for every customer. I use a custom connection expression to determine the database by User ID.
Hi, I have a report in one folder in Report Manager. Let's call that the 'base' report. I've created a linked report with that 'base' report to another folder. When I go into Visual Studio BIDS, change the report and deploy it to Report Manager, only the base report changes. The linked report does not change.
Is this by design? I thought linking reports gave you the ability to have a base report and numerous other linked reports, all of which would also change if you changed and redeployed the base report. Is that not the case?
We are using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and looking to render our reports to Microsoft Word format. We€™ve searched around and haven€™t really found any useful information on how to do this.
Is Microsoft planning on releasing a Word rendering extension? If so, when?
Has anyone written a custom rendering extension for Word? Or, does anyone know how to write a custom rendering extension for Word?
We need either a Microsoft solution that€™s already built-in to Reporting Services or a solid, free solution. We are not in the market of buying a third-party product like OfficeWriter.
we have a problem with linked reports. We are using the same reports that are run on about 70 different Oracle schemas. The credential information is passed when calling the report. This works fine for reports and reports with subreports. But when linking to another reports, the credential information is lost.
Is the a possibuility to pass the datasource credential information to a linked report?
I had developed my reports using SQL 2005 reporting service. While crerating the report i set the page size to 8.27in Width x 11.69in Height. I am calling this report in my aspx pages using report viewer.
But the problem is I can't able to set the size of the page to A4 size. When i set the size of the page to A4 while printing the page is divided into two pages.
Is there any way to override the print option in reportviewer where we can set the page size to A4 ?
I tried to export a report to excel format. I am getting the below error(Array Index out of bounds). The report is around 12 pages. Any thoughts on this?

I have several reports that are set to landscape but then lose this layout when a linked report is created from the original report. I found the link below describing Brian Welcker's workaround and my question is where do you place the vb.net code he provided?
Currently, I have to manully create RS 2005 reports which I export into an Excel later. Is there a way to create a SSIS package that could automate this somehow?
i have 4 SSRS reports. each report must be scheduled to run at different time and then send the send the reports in txt format (tab delimited) to a ftp server .I am new to SSIS and SSRS.
We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).
While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.
Environment: SSRS 2005
Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.
BarCodes print fine in the following situations:
1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there
2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer
3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.
BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:
1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.
UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...)
UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.
My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."
I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.
Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?
Hello SQL Server Experts, Data Analysts, and Report Writers et al:
re: Reporting Options with SQL Server
I wanted to propose an offshoot to the pryor thread:
Would anyone take a stab at comparing Access Reports, Crystal Reports, Cognos or other options to all the Reporting Services and its components offered as part ofSQL Server, especially as to extracting data from SQL Server into a report format?
I guess this is a far as capabilites, ease of use, limitations, and especially formatting or presentation of the end report product?
Thank you to all, and I hope this is a beneficial discussion to others.
