Problem In Upgrading My Database Tables

Mar 8, 2007

hi,

I've modified some of my database tables and in the existing version(ver1.3) of my database and i named the new version as ver1.5.

now when i've detached ver1.3 database and attaching ver 1.5 to server it is taking the .ldf file from the folder ver1.3.(I'm maintaning the each version in a saperate folder)

I want to create an independent .ldf file for ver 1.5 also. i dont want to depend on old version for .ldf file.

Can any one help me regarding this issue....

After Upgrading To SQL 7.0 Database Writes/saves Are Slow...

Apr 18, 2002

I upgraded from 6.5 to 7.0 SP3. Now when I save (write) an invoice it takes about 10-12 seconds, at 6.5 it was 1-3 seconds. SQL Server and my Materials App are the only thing running on this box. This is the only area that has gotten slower everything else works great. I have 3 users saving invoices and about 15 people total using the system at one time. It's a compaq DL580 loaded with memory, database is 2,195MB in size. Same 6.5 client to access system as before. Should I rebuild/reindex the database? Is there something from the old 6.5 version I need to remove?? Thanks in advance!!!

Problem After Upgrading Access Database To Mssql

Jan 21, 2004

Oke here is the problem. I hope sombody can help me with it.

After a lot of discussion, I finaly got the people that control the MS SQL server with my appertment as far to allow me to upgrade my access database to the MS SQL server.
After this I've created an access project. Devellopping in access I concluded I made a mistake in the rowsource property of one of the tablefields. The people that control the MS SQL server don'n allow me to make changes to the database structure from within access. So I've to write a SQL statement to change this.

example:

fields table1: id_document, id_document_type, document_name
fields tabel2: id_document_type, document_type_description.

the field id_document_type from table 1 is defined as a combo/list box tha contains the values from the field document_type_description from table 2.

I hope somebody can tell me if it is possible to write an SQL statement for this problem and how it shoud look like ?

thank you

Upgrading Source Database From 2000 To 2005

Apr 17, 2007

I have one 32-bit SQL 2000 server that is our enterprise-wide reporting server (we'll call it RS) and another 32-bit SQL 2000 server that serves as a stored proc data source for certain reports on that server (we'll call it DS). I am about to go through an upgrade/migration of DS to 64-bit SQL 2005 and was wondering if:

it is possible to just change the data source location on RS and point the old reports against the new DS server?
there are any necessary steps to take within RS to make the data source (DS reference on RS) compatible with the destination (report on RS)?
it is possible/easy to bulk-migrate all the RDL's for a particular data source from RS to DS?

Does anyone know any of the answers to these questions?

Thanks in advance!

Upgrading SQL 2000 To SQL 2005 Very Large Database

May 29, 2007

My question is two fold:

We have a database 65 GB in size and has grown over 12 years.

1) How can I upgrade to 2005 without downtime?

2) Our upgrades on SQL 2000 now can take upwards of 10 hours to add just a column and rebuild index tables?

Any way we can speed this up without detaching the database and going offline?

thanks,

DB Engine :: Can't Open Database After Upgrading To Windows 10

Aug 3, 2015

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and now I can't connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 nor 2014 Express.  The logs on both say it can't open master.mdf because it was originally formatted with a sector size 4096 but now it's 3072.  But no sector sizes were changed.  The only thing that changed was going from Windows 7 (64-bit) to Windows 10 (64-bit).  How can this be resolved?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Copy Resource Database MDF For Upgrading

Feb 11, 2015

Copy mssqlsystemresource.mdf of a recently upgraded server and paste to an old server have same effect of upgrading via .exe installation?

My idea is to save time and administrative efforts in upgrades (Service Packs and/or Cumulative Updates) using this method.

According to BOL:

The Resource database makes upgrading to a new version of SQL Server an easier and faster procedure. In earlier versions of SQL Server, upgrading required dropping and creating system objects. Because the Resource database file contains all system objects, an upgrade is now accomplished simply by copying the single Resource database file to the local server.

Problems Upgrading Database Engine 2005 Express To 2005 Standard

Nov 7, 2006

I'm having problems upgrading the SQL express 2005 database engine services to 2005 standard 32 bit. I've also tried to install sql 2005 service pack 1 "SQLServer2005SP1-KB913090-x86-ENU.exe" and it did the same thing, upgraded everything except the database engine services. After that I tried another install from the run command "Z:Setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1" and that failed at the same place as well.

My windows version is is 5.2 (build 3790.srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447:service pack 1

Below is a copy of the error log file from the install, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can I Export Tables So That Existing Tables In Destination Database Will Be Modified?

Jul 20, 2005

I'm working on an ASP.Net project where I want to test code on a localmachine using a local database as a back-end, and then export it tothe production machine where it uses the hosting provider's SQL Serverdatabase on the back-end. Is there a way to export tables from oneSQL Server database to another in such a way that if a table alreadyexists in the destination database, it will be updated to reflect thechanges to the local table, without existing data in the destinationtable being lost? e.g. suppose I change some tables in my localdatabase by adding new fields. Can I "export" these changes to thedestination database so that the new fields will be added to thedestination tables (and filled in with default values), without losingdata in the destination tables? If I run the DTS Import/Export Wizard that comes with SQL Server andchoose "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database" and choosethe tables I want to copy, there is apparently no option *not* to copythe data, and since I don't want to copy the data, that choice doesn'twork. If instead of "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the sourcedatabase", I choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Serverdatabases", then on the following options I can uncheck the "CopyData" box to prevent data being copied. But for the "CreateDestination Objects" choices, I have to uncheck "Drop destinationobjects first" since I don't want to lose the existing data. But whenI uncheck that and try to do the copy, I get collisions between theproperties of the local table and the existing destination table,e.g.:"Table 'wbuser' already has a primary key defined on it."Is there no way to do what I want using the DTS Import/Export Wizard? Can it be done some other way?-Bennett

Integration Services :: Import Varying Number Of Tables Each Time From One Database To Different Database

Sep 9, 2015

I am new to SSIS. I have been struggling with this for the past one week. I have a weird task. I need to import several tables from one database to a different server with a new database name. We need to do this at the end of every year. The main problem here is that the number of tables varies every year. You may not have all the tables as last year or may have more tables. So I need to create a dynamic task that takes care of this every year without changing the package.

I have performed the following tasks **

1. Create a new dynamic database. ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this) 2. Copy all the table structures ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this)

3. Import Data. This is the main problem. I was trying to create a dynamic connection string with variables as suggested in several forums but I finally came to know that this cannot be done if the table structures are different as the metadata cannot be refreshed at runtime.

4. The final step to create a process to validate the data (the count from each table for both source and destination. I think this can be done with Sql task.

What is the best method to do this? My DBA does not like “Transfer SQL Objects Task” or “transfer Database Task”. I would like to create this as a dynamic process.

SQL Security :: Cannot Expand List Of Database Tables Using Contained Database Login With Server Management Studio

Jul 30, 2015

In SSMS, I connect Object Explorer to a partially contained database using a contained user login with password. This user has a database role of dbdatareader. When I try to expand the Tables in the database, I get the error:

The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'extended_properties', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)

Is there a way to set permissions for the contained user so that this could be done?

How Do You Copy Tables From Local Database To Web Hosting Database In 2005?

Nov 1, 2006

I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express and I'm trying to figure out how to copy a table(s) from my local database to my web hosting database.  I know how to do it in 2000, but it's completely different now.  Is this feature not allowed on SSMSE?  If so, then how do I deploy database tables to a web host? Also, how do you add local database(s) to SSMSE?  I tried to use 'attach database' in SSMSE and it wouldn't allow me to navigate to My Documents folder where the database resides. Thanks...

How To Backup CE Database Tables And Restore To Newer Database?

Jul 3, 2007

I am fairly new to VS 2005 and SQL Server CE. I have developed a Desktop Windows application using VB 2005 and the SQL Compact Edition Database. This application will sell to users via web download.

When they download a service patch, or updated version, I wish for them to retain the data in their present database. In other words, fill the new database with the old data. The new table structures will remain intact except for added columns at the end.

Question is how to save the old data and update the new database with it. Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to write a module to save a database copy, and update the new database with content at install time?

Populate Database Tables With Data From Another Database

May 2, 2008

I have two Databases with the same name that reside in different servers. The two servers are linked servers. Each database consists of 5 Tables. The tables have identical names in each database.

The database in ServerA has 5 tables with data, the database in ServerB also has 5 tables with the same schema as ServerA, however the 5 identical tables in ServerB contain no data.

I need to populate the 5 tables in ServerB with the Data from the 5 tables in ServerA.

What SQL code or script can i use to populate the 5 tables in ServerB

Below are the names of the 5 tables:

TABLE1: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Orders]
TABLE2: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Sales]
TABLE3: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Employee]
TABLE4: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Customer]
TABLE5: [ServerB].[ProdDB].dbo.[Region]

Does any one have a script that could help me with this task. Thanks

I am using SQL Server 2005

Upgrading To Sql 7.0

Feb 5, 2002

Hi,

I have to upgrade the sql server from 6.5 to 7.0 for the first time. I have decided to go with two machine upgrade using named pipes.

The question is: Can we still use 6.5 machine and database as production version until we test out the application on 7.0?

We are planning to relpeat the upgrade once the testing is done on 7.0 server once the testing is done.

Upgrading From 6.5 To 7.0

May 14, 1999

We're going to be upgrading our Server from 6.5 to 7.0. In addition we're getting a new SQL Server Box.

Which of the following is better: a) Install SQL 6.5 on the new box, restore the DB from old box to the new box, then install 7.0 on the new box and use the upgrade wizard to upsize the DB. (We'll have room to leave the 6.5 devices on the box after upgrading.) or b) Install SQL 7.0 on the new box and upsize the db across the network (100megabit network cards).

Upgrading 2k5 To Sp2

May 15, 2008

So I'm using Visual Studio's one click deployment to install/update software for users. SQL Express 2005 is the default, and I need to get all current and new users to update to SQL Express 2005 SP2. Ontop of that, I need to change the sa password for all current users (I should be able to manually set it for the new guys).

The problem I'm having is that instead of just updating the current SQL Express engine installed, it creates a new instance of the SQL Express engine when installing SQL Express SP2.

Is there anyway to just update SQL Express to SP2? Is there an easy way to change the sa password when doing so?

I have an application which installs MySQL 3.23. It's hard-coded. Irealize there are newer versions, so I am thinking, what's easiest:1) install the application with its default 3.23 and then run a scriptto convert 3.23 to 4.1 or later,or2) modify the application to install a newer version of MySQL from thestart.

Upgrading From MDB

Nov 29, 2007

I'm in the process of upgrading a gazillion apps from using .MDB files to using SQLCE 3.5. (Or, at least planning the upgrade). Is there an easy way to save existing .MDB files as .SDFs? Also, we have an occasional app that's web based (eg. certification exam, where we have 10 people take it online at the same time, in one day, and the database keeps the score, questions, etc.); is it a good idea to move that kind of app to SQLCE from MDB?
