Dear group,I have to replicate remote data to a SQL Server in the headquarter. The data are on a site which does not have permanent online-connectionto the headquarter.I have written a script which replicates the data and i want to set upa process / batch on the headquarter-machine which roughly does thefollowing1) Connect to the remote site2) start replication script (in fact a stored procedure)3) on success disconnect from the remote siteAll this has to run automatically e.g. during nighttime.Could someone please outline how i set up the connection and keep itup during my database-action and how to automatically disconnect aftersuccess of my replication script.I'd be jolly grateful. Thanks in advance and Greetings from ViennaUli
Hi there I need to generate some variables , like var1, var2, var3 .... It's determined by how many records in my database. I want to write a for() to do this. But how? For example for(int i=0; i<datatable.rows.count; i++){ String vari = new String;} This is not a right way in C#, does anyone know how to? Thanks!!!
I generate SQL scripts on a regular basis for my database and it's objects. Is it possible to run a job in SQL or make windows do this automatically on a periodic basis? Anyone done this before?
I have a question about adding a unique key column to an existing table.
what i trying to do is that: I have already created a table, now i wanna add a ID column to this table, and generate the values for ID column from 1 to the existing row number. How can I get this done?
I wanted to check with you all if it is possible to create a script which generates the list of the schedules of all the jobs and then analyses it to rearrange the job starttime to ensure that we have equal gap between two jobs starting time. Just to ensure we donot have many jobs running at the same time.
I'll try to explain what I'd like to do. On my SQL Server 2005, SSAS contains a mining model (In fact a cluster one). I'd like to show a detailed diagram build from this model on a web site. This diagram (and this is why I need automation) would depend on the user who's consulting it. For example, a firm A will see the number of its customers in each cluster, and this information will be different for another firm B
So, I thought about several steps to perform: 1) Feed the model with the data for each firm 2) Build a Visio diagram from the previous data using the DM addins for Visio 2007 3) Generate HTML using the Visio export wizard 4) Publish HTML And (important) this should be done automatically.
I made some experiments: Step 1 is easy to perform with SSIS Step 3 is also easy to do with the Visio SDK (using, among others, the exportAsHtml control) and Step 4 is trivial
I failed to perform stage 2, even with the SDK, since creating a diagram from a DM template requires the user to fill a wizard. By code, I'm able to create a document from a DM template, Drop a DM Stencil but when the wizard appears I'm unable to get a handle on it. And even if I was, I dunno if it would be a "clean" way of doing.
So my question is: first of all: isn't there an easier way to generate HTML from Mining Models automatically? And if my approach to this problem is the best (or the "least bad"), how to generate datamining Visio diagrams from code automatically?
Hello,I'm using Entreprise Manager (for Sql Server 2000) to generate mydatabase's script. By mistake, i've changer FillFactor one time. And,now I can't remove this data from generated sql script. How to removethat ?Thank's a lot.
We have several Sql Server 2014 AlwaysOn Availability Groups set up in our test lab and use a combination of SCDPM and Maintenance Plans to back up the databases in them.Â
Our applications always work well regardless of which of the physical servers are, at any given time, designated the "Primary" for a database. Automatic failover works fine.
There are other applications, such as SQL Server built-in backup and System Center DPM that only work properly when the databases are currently hosted where originally intended.
During the normal course of Windows Updates, etc., machines will occasionally be rebooted in the middle of the night. When they come back up, we would like them to "reclaim" the databases that properly belong to them, in an orderly fashion of course (when the "Synchronization State = Sychronized"). We have lots of these test servers and we do not have staff watching the servers in the middle of the night.
I have 2 servers. On one server i install sql server 2014 and its working fine, i am able to get connected with sql with domain account.
From second machine i want to connect my sql server, for that i create udl file when i give sql server address and click refresh getting following error: Connection failed cannot generate SSPI context
Firewall is off, created fire rule too, i am able to get ping first machine by ip and servername but still getting issue.
My SQL Server 2000 database log was full (2MB) and I am unable to add new column to a table. So that I follow this article to truncate my log file to 1MB. It works. But when I add a new column to a table after that. The log file went back to 2MB in size and I got the "the log file is full" error message again for the operation. BTW, my reovery mode was set to "Simple". I don't understand how the save table operation can recover my change on log size. What should I do to "permanently" truncate my log? http://www.support.microsoft.com/?id=272318 I did this: DBCC SHRINKFILE (myDB_Log, 1) BACKUP LOG myDB WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY DBCC SHRINKFILE (myDB_Log, 1)
How, using SQL, do I turn off the identity property in the table? I need a script to run against a number of db to permanently remove the identity property from the tables without needing to use Enterprise Manager.
In SQL 2012 I'm trying to delete a log file (both physically and logically). There are two log files and one of them is unnecessary. When I click 'remove' in SSMS it will delete the log file, but then when I go back under database properties it's still showing up even though the file has been physically removed from the OS. I'm wondering what steps I can take to get rid of the file permanently?
I hope this is the right forum to post my question in.
Does anyone know if or when Microsoft will discontinue support for 2000 DTS Legacy packages within SQL Server 2005? We€™re in the process of migrating from 2000 to 2005 and have a lot of packages to migrate to Integration Services. We€™re having problems migrating the packages because quite a few of them are complex and won€™t run after migrating to IS without a major rewrite. Right now it seems that those packages will run just fine under the Legacy folder on the 2005 instance with the data connections pointed to 2005 databases. We€™d just like to plan appropriately if we absolutely have to migrate those packages to IS at some point soon. We realize that we'll need to create new packages using IS, though.
So I€™d appreciate it if anyone has heard anything to please let me know. I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn€™t seem to find any posts on it. Thanks!
In SQL 2005, I've created a test scenario in AdventureWorks where I:
1.) Create a database master key:
IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.symmetric_keys WHERE symmetric_key_id = 101) CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = '<password>'
GO
2.) Create a certificate:
CREATE CERTIFICATE HRCert WITH SUBJECT = 'Comments' GO
3.) Create a symmetric key:
CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY CommentKey WITH ALGORITHM = DES ENCRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE HRCert GO
4.) Add a test column to the HumanResources.JobCandidate table:
ALTER TABLE HumanResources.JobCandidate ADD Comments varbinary(8000) GO
5.) Open the symmetric key for use:
OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY CommentKey DECRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE HRCert GO
6.) Insert and Encrypt values ('Yes') to the newly created column:
UPDATE HumanResources.JobCandidate SET Comments = EncryptByKey(Key_GUID('CommentKey'), 'Yes') GO
-------
Great. Now all the textbooks say that, to view the column values in a decrypted state, you should:
SELECT CONVERT(varchar, DecryptByKey(Comments)) AS [Decrypted Comments], * FROM HumanResources.JobCandidate
------
Great, I get it. But here's the rub. What is the best way to permanently decrypt the column and keep it in a cleartext state?
Running the following works, but keeps the column values in a varbinary (hexadecimal) state which is what we originally created:
UPDATE HumanResources.JobCandidate SET Comments = DecryptByKey(Comments) GO
But if I want to transform this varbinary(8000) column into a human-readable varchar column, the only thing I could come up with was a temp table solution:
UPDATE HumanResources.JobCandidate SET Comments = DecryptByKey(Comments) GO
DECLARE @temp varchar(1000) SET @temp = (SELECT TOP 1 CommentsFROM Human Resources.JobCandidate)
CREATE TABLE #decrypt (Comment varchar(1000)) INSERT INTO #decrypt (Comments) VALUES (@temp) GO
ALTER TABLE HumanResources.JobCandidate ALTER COLUMN Comments varchar(1000) GO
UPDATE HumanResources.JobCandidate SET Comments = (SELECT Comments FROM #decrypt) GO
My SQL Server 2005 SP4 on Windows 2008 R2 is flooded with the below errors:-
Date  10/25/2011 10:55:46 AM Log  SQL Server (Current - 10/25/2011 10:55:00 AM) Source  spid Message Event Tracing for Windows failed to send an event. Send failures with the same error code may not be reported in the future. Error ID: 0, Event class ID: 54, Cause: (null).  Is there a way I can trace it how it is coming? When I check input buffer for these ids, it looks like it is tracing everything. All the general application DMLs are coming in these spids.
I have been testing with the WMI Event Watcher Task, so that I can identify a change to a file. The WQL is thus:
SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent within 30 WHERE targetinstance isa 'CIM_DataFile' AND targetinstance.name = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\AdventureWorks.bak'
This polls every 30 secs and in the SSIS Event (ActionAtEvent in the WMI Task is set to fire the SSIS Event) I have a simple script task that runs a message box).
My understanding is that the event polls every 30 s and if there is a change on the AdventureWorks.bak file then the event is triggered and the script task will run producing the message. However, when I run the package the message is occurring every 30s, meaning the event is continually firing even though there has been NO change to the AdventureWorks.bak file.
Am I correct in my understanding of how this should work and if so why is the event firing when it should not ?
I have stored procedure which runs on some period, what i want is when it first run i want to store that date permanently or till the next time it runs again, and then i need to take my data from that store proc , where hist_date between (date stored when it ran first time, example, 08/21/2015) and today date.(exampple, 08/24/2015)
Now next time when it runs , date stored should be updated in this case it should be (08/24/2015) .
How can i do this in stored proc, I tried to use temp table  but it didn't work .

User A creates the SSIS Package and provides the password for the connection manager for a task (for OLE DB source) with SQL authentication.Â
When User B tries to run the SSIS package, the error is thrown as : The package may be damaged.
On typing the password again inside the connection manager, the execution occurs successfully. Is there any workaround to save the password permamanently for the connection manager rather than each user entering it in order to run the package ?

Except that now I am trying to connect and update to an Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient) via VB 2008 Express; specifically a table called €œHexMap€? that contains some columns that I am ready to insert some row data into. Here is what my program should do:
As I hover over a hexagon map of the US a red flickering hexagon follows the location of my mouse cursor. If I click on a given hexagon, the program draws a permanent blue hexagon, and sends a new set of row data into my database. Such information as the name of the state, row, column, center x, and center y, etc. Here is a quick snapshot of this program in action:

I think I am missing something since I appear to be able to connect successfully to the database table. Unfortunately, I never see the changes in the database, when I try to Show Table Data (via Database Explorer). I am hoping someone will review my code snippet (below) and tell me what I am missing. What happens when I run this code is that it acts like it works just fine, except that I have no indication that any changes were actually affected.

I tried to remove AdventureWorksDB in the "Add or Remove Programs" of Contol Panel and I got the following errors: (1) AdventureWorksDB Error 1326: Error getting file security: CProgram FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL1MSSQLGetLastError: 5. |OK| and (2) Add or Remove Programs Fatal Error during installation (after I clicked the |OK| button). We recently upgraded to SQL 2005 from SQL 2000. We have most of our issues ironed out however about every 1 minute there is a message in the Application Event log and the SQL log that states:
EVENT ID 18456 Login Failed for the users DOMAIN/ACCOUNT [CLIENT: <local machine>]
This is a state 16 message which I thought meant that the account does not have access to the default database. The account is actually the account that the SQL services run under.
Any ideas? We can't seem to figure this one out. We actually upgraded to 2005 from 2000 and had an error appear after every reboot that prevented the SQL Agent from running(This application has failed to start because GAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.) We did a full uninstall of SQL and reinstalled fresh and restored the databases from .bak files and that is when the EVENT ID 18546 started occuring every minute.
We don't have any SQL heavy hitters here so please be detailed with any possible solutions. That you very much for any help you can provide!
I have uninstalled the CTP version of the SQL Server express so that I can install the released version but CTP version is still listed in the add/remove program list but without the change/remove button. I have been to different sites to find information on cleaning this up and I have ran all the uninstall tool I can find but the problem still prevails. I cannot install the released version without completely getting rid of the CTP version. Please help anyone.
We have a requirement to build SQL environment which will give us local high availability and disaster recovery to second site. We have two sites- Site A & Site B. We are planning to have two nodes at Site A and 2 nodes at Site B. All four nodes will be part of same Windows failover cluster. We will build two SQL Cluster, InstanceA will be clustered between the nodes at Site A Server and InstanceB will be clustered between the nodes at Site B, we will enable Always On Between the InstanceA and InstanceB and will be primary owner where data will be written on InstanceA and will be replicated to InstaceB. URL....Now we want we will have instanceC on the Site B and data will be writen from the application available on Site B, will be replicated to the instance on the Site A as replica.
