Registering 6.5 Servers Using Enterprise Manager 7.0

Dec 8, 1999

I have installed 7.0 on my desktop and I am trying to use the Enterprise Manager. I am trying to register 6.5 servers and keep getting the SQL Server Enterprise Manager message "Warning - The client and server codepages do not match. Some ANSI character mappings may not be possible".

I have been told that I can install 6.5 then 7.0 but it is not available.

Anybody have any solutions?

Thanks in advance,

Ivan

Registering SQL 6.5 Within SQL 7.0 Enterprise Manager

Oct 22, 1999

Hi folks,

i'm at a loss as to why i can not register a SQL 6.5 server in SQL 7.0 Enterprise Manager. When i right click the 6.6 group there is no 'New SQL Server Registration...' as you get in the SQL 7.0 group. Highlighting the 6.5 group and clicking the toolbar button (which is actually visible) does nothing either. But, funnily enough when i installed Enterprise Manager another 6.5 server was automatically registered! Even more wierd is the fact that i can connect through OK with the ISQL utility to my 6.5 server (the one i can't register) and query it, fine.

How do i register it in the Console Root? It's definatly 'connectable' just that i can't register the thing! I bet i'm being really stupid (no comments folks!)

Cheers,
Kyle.

Registering SQL Server In SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager

May 22, 2008

When Trying to register a SQL Server using Windows Authentication, I get the following error:

Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

When I edit the properties and make it SQL Authentication, it works fine. The SQL Server Service is starting up with a domain user account. If that makes any difference. Funny thing is, that my co-worker, can register the SQL Server in his Enterprise Manager using Windows Authentication. We are both Domain Admins and members of the servers local admin group. So, I'm not sure what to do now.

I checked under Security, Logins...and neither of us are listed under there.

Thanks

Registering 6.5 Sql Servers Into 7.0

Mar 2, 2000

Can anyone give me advice on how to register 6.5 servers using SQL 7.0. Every time I try and register a 6.5 servers it fails. I get an error stating that "I must upgraded the 6.5 server or later to be administered by this version of SQL-DMO". I can't upgrade the server to 7.0 because the COTS product that we are using as the front end relies on 6.5. Is there any way to do this? Or do I have to install 6.5 on my workstation as a separate application than 7.0? Someone please help?

Un-registering SQL Servers

Aug 28, 2000

Hi,

I mistakenly registered a SQL 6.5 server in SQL 7.0. I would like to remove the registration entry, since I often will click it by acident, and it will fire up the SQL 6.5 EM session. However, when I right click on the server and try to select the "Delete SQLServer Registration" from the menu, that option is greyed out. Is there any way I can remove this SQLServer somehow?

Thanks,

Registering 6.5 Servers In 7.0 EM

Jul 24, 1998

Hi! Just started playing, but when I try to register an active (on the network) 6.5 server in the 7.0 EM I get the message that I must upgrade the 6.5 server...I know in 6.5 I could access 6.0 servers after runnning a script on the 6.0 server, but so far I don`t see anything like this for 7.0. Will I end up having to run 2 versions of EM on a machine (if possible) to access my 6.5/7.0 servers? (I know I won`t be able to do anything fancy, but it is nice (under my 6.5 EM) to be able to manage server activity/db`s from one machine, regardless of them being 6.0 or 6.5!

Registering SQL Servers

Jan 12, 1999

I need help with a problem that is driving me nuts and should be so easy that it is mindless. The problem is with registering SQL servers in Enterprise Manager.
The network is a routed environment with many subnets. TCP/IP addresses are assigned by DHCP and name resolution is done via WINS. The SQL clients are set to use Named Pipes as the Net-Library. The servers are using standard security. I have the correct sa password. Then I try to register a SQL server. It returns a message that it is unavailable.
The SQL box is visible in Network Neighborhood; is able to be pinged both via machine name and IP address; the msssqlserver service is running on the box. I can register the box using standard security and the same credentials in EM right on the server. Why can't I register it from a client?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Registering Servers With IP Addresses

Apr 27, 2000

I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I need to replicate some tables from our store servers
to our corporate server. All of them are 6.5, and
the corporate server will subscribe and the stores
will publish. I have registered
all of our stores on the corporate server so that I can
enable them for replication.

The problem is that to be able to register them I had to create
a system DSN for ODBC, but that would only work if I used the
IP addresses. Unfortunately, then when I try to enable them
on the corporate server I get an error stating that name (which
is the IP address) is not a valid object identifier.

In ODBC I did actually use a real name (not an IP) for the
name, a normal description, and the IP is in the Server
field. Is there some way to use an alias? What am I doing wrong?

Registering Server In OLAP Manager

Jan 26, 1999

I'm trying to register a remote OLAP server under OLAP Manager.
After I enter the machine name I get the following:

Errors occurred while connecting to <server>.
Cannot open the following registry key on the server computer (<server>):
SoftwareMicrosoftOLAP ServerServer Connection Info
Do you still want to register this server?

The noticeable thing about this error message is that the registry key is missing the first level (HKEY_....). Has anyone been able to register a remote server? I can run OLAP Manager on the server without a problem. I just uninstalled and reinstalled OLAP services on the server and my desktop.
There is a registry key with this path under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the server.

Problems Running Enterprise Manager And Service Manager

Jul 20, 2005

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

SQL 7 Enterprise Manager

Jul 28, 2000

I am considering upsizing my Access 2000 DB to a SQL 7 server. I was told that having SQL 7 Enterprise Manager is highly prefferd but not essential as I can maintain the upsized DB with Access 2000. The only way that I have been able to find JUST enterprise manager seems to be with purchasing the whole SQL 7 program for $1300! Microsoft cannot be that cruel, that you have to buy the whole program just for Enterprise Manager!

My questions are:

Can I download just MS SQL 7 Enterprise Manager anywhere for a reasonable fee or free?

and

if not, can I continue to use Access 2000 to maintain the SQL 7 upsized DB?

Enterprise Manager

Mar 13, 2001

Hi,
I would like to know if we can present users to access details database information about the databases on a server through Enterprise Manager.
If you create a SQL login and do NOT give it access to any database, if someone logons on your server with enterprise manager, even though he does not have access to any database, he will still see the list of all database on your servers plus tons of sensitive information like database owner.
Is is possible to limit enterprise manager to only view information about database that the user has access to?

Thanks

SQL Enterprise Manager

Does anyone know how to turn off or disable the auto discovery for Enterprise Manager. Apparently our Network group is complaining that Enterprise Manager is generating noise on the network, it is not signifcant in volume but they complain it impacts there ability to detect hacking attempts on our network because it causes some false positives. I generally keep Enterprise Manager running because I will always have some manual job running from it and we have so many servers it takes awhile for them to all load when I first fire it up.
