Repeating Table Headers Overwriting Data

Oct 5, 2006

I'm using RS2000 SP2 and am getting an issue when exporting to PDF. If I have a table that spans more than one page and I set the RepeatHeaderOnNewPage to True, then on occasion the table header will be displayed on top of the first few rows of data. It does not happen on all the pages or all the time and I can not find any information on this issue. Has anyone come across this before and solved it?

Repeating Table Headers

Dec 14, 2007

I have the option for repeating table headers for every page turn on as I would like the table headers repeated on every page. In the HTML report view, this works fine, however when the report is exported to pdf (a total of 80 some pages), when there is a table that contains a lot of data, the table headers are not displayed. I know this could be because the table includes a subreport and sometimes the subreport runs more than one page, but shouldn't the table header still be diplayed on the new page?

Is there something else that I need to check or should I move the table/column header information somplace else?

Thanks for any information.

Modifying Repeating Group Headers So That They Are Different On Subsequent Pages

Jan 7, 2008

It is using a table to display a very large amount of data (a basic list of information) with groups. Each of the groups can span multiple pages, so the user may not realize where the grouping actually began (I am repeating the group headers). Therefore, I would like to modify the group header when it is repeated across multiple pages by simply adding the text, "(cont.)" to the header so the reader can easily see that the group started on a prior page. There does not appear to be any standard test function for this condition. Using Previous() for this case does not work. This cannot be a new issue and must have been solved; any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this has been asked before, I did search the forum but could not find an answer to this question...

I have created a new report & add a table to it. When I select "Tablix Properties" and check on Columns Headers -> "Repeat Cheader columns on each page" the header columns do not repeat on each page. I also tried "Repeat header rows on each page". "Add page break before" seems to work ok. I am using VS 2008 9.0.30729.1 SP..I also tried deploying but it still does not work on the deployed version.

Copying All Rows From One Table Into Another Existing Table And Overwriting Data

Feb 15, 2005

i have 2 tables (both containing the same column names/datatypes), say table1 and table2.. table1 is the most recent, but some rows were deleted on accident.. table2 was a backup that has all the data we need, but some of it is old, so what i want to do is overwrrite the rows in table 2 that also exist in table 1 with the table 1 rows, but the rows in table 2 that do not exist in table one, leave those as is.. both tables have a primary key, user_id.

any ideas on how i could do this easily?

Overwriting An Existing Database With One That Is Populated With Data

Jan 21, 2008

I am tring to figure out how to simplify the process of populating a database created by an application with the same database, only with data already in it. So far i have created a backup of the database and used that backup file with SQL server management express to overwrite the existing database with that backup file on a new computer so the program will have data when initally installed for Demonstration purposes. I was hoping there was an executable script that i could use, so that when someone wants a demonstration of our product, they can see its options and functionallity with data available. Maby i am going about this the wrong way, i need to know if there is a way that when our program is installed an executable can simply be run to populate our database with a backup of our sample database. Any imput would be helpful.
Thanks.

Repeating Data.

Feb 12, 2008

Hi everybody!

I've got this little problem.
I need to insert data from a table to another table.
The scenario looks as follows:
I've got 'Company' table (no duplicated records there) and 'Contacts' table (one to many relation: for one company there can be more than one contact).
The following statement retrieves the data but it shows me everything, including all contacts and therefore I get duplicating values, e.g. company name.
Is there any way of changing the following query so it works?

INSERT Projects(
CompanyID,
ContactID,
CustomerName,
EntryTime,
SetupFee,
ForecastRevValue06_07,
ClosureProbabilityID,
ExpectedClosingDate,
TechnologyID,
Service_ProvidedID,
Dropped,
AgreementTerm,
AgreementTermDisplayOnly,
ForecastStartDate,
ForecastEndDate,
LongTerm,
UserID
)
SELECT Distinct
CI.CompanyID,
CC.ContactID,
--CC.FirstName + ' ' +CC.LastName,
getDate(),
0,
0,
5,
DateAdd(month,2,getDate()),
2,
1,
0,
2,
'2 month(s)',
DateAdd(month,2,getDate()),
DateAdd(month,4,getDate()),
0,
2

FROM
CompanyInfo CI
left outer JOIN CompanyContacts CC ON
CC.CompanyID = CI.CompanyID

Kind Regards

Repeating Data On Each Page

Sep 4, 2007

Hi

Pulled all my hair out now, can someone please offer some help before I go totally mad...

I have no page header, this is all in the body. I have a List with account number and job number in it at the top, called list1. In list1 I have list2, with the job details, basically a list of people who attended the job. The fields in list2 are textboxes, they're not in a table.

EG:
Acc No: 12345
Job No: 54321

Name
Fred Bloggs
Joe Bloggs
Etc

When my list2 of names goes over 1 page, I want to repeat the account number and job number on each subsequent page. In my real report I actually have 10 fields I want to repeat.

I then want to be able to export this report to a PDF.

I can't put the header in the page header and RepeatWith doesn't work when exporting to PDF, or at all depending on what mood it's in.

Does anyone have a workaround for this please?

Cheers

Data Incorrectly Repeating Itself

Aug 3, 2007

I have run into a strange issue that I believe is a SQL Reporting Services issue.

I have a report laid out in landscape setting that has 4 columns of text. Two of the columns are sub-reports (due to the complexity and size, we did not flatten out the data in the stored procedure) and two of the columns are regular fields.

The 2 columns of regular fields are smaller, and normally only grow to about 1/2 the height of he page. One of the two sub-reports contains large amounts of text, and at time grows larger than the height of the page.

When the sub-report grows larger than the current page, it correctly starts up on the next page. But the 2 fields of data from the main dataset (not the sub-report columns) repeat themselves on the next page as well.

What is even more strange is the 2 fields of data from the main dataset only repeat data to grow vertically as far as the sub-report needs to grow. So if there is more data in either of these 2 fields than is needed for the sub-report to grow on the 2nd page, it will cut off the data in both of these fields.

I have tried placing the information in a group header. Turned the "Repeat on new page" both True and False, Took away the table header and footer, forced a page break after each group, tried using the "Hide Duplicates" property on the field within the details section, and nothing has seemed to fix the issue.

If anyone has run into this and found a work around, let me know.

Thank you,

T.J.

Eliminating Repeating Data Values

I am querying several tables and piping the output to an Excel spreadsheet.
Several (not all) columns contain repeating data that I'd prefer not to include on the output. I only want the first row in the set to have that data. Is there a way in the query to do this under SQL 2005?

Hash/Encrypt CSV To Lookup Repeating Data?

Oct 1, 2007

Hopefully this makes sense, not sure what to even begin researching...

I'm trying to optimize all facets of this process, as it will take over the resources on my server if not done efficiently.

I have CSV files containing INTs that I need to upsert (match to an existing/earlier imported array or create a new record set) millions of times a day. To be clear, this data is a small subset of the actual import, this arrays contents are not the main data of the process, and the value of the entire array is meant to be related to higher level tables.

The contents of the CSV array are 99.9+% repeating, meaning they will very often share the exact same contents as a a previously imported array. A rough guess is there are 20k combinations existing, and less than 1k new per month, and will range from 6 cols x 15 rows to 6 cols x 50 rows.

So current plan is to use a MD5 hash during the (not SQL related) export process to identify the contents of this CSV file, and export only the md5 (32 digit hex) as a lookup to identify the contents. If the SQL import process finds a new (unknown) MD5 it will request the actual contents, otherwise it will simply use the MD5 as a key/id/code for the actual array contents that are already stored.

There's probably a certain terminology I'm not familiar with for this type of thing.. I've never heard of something like this. I realize collision is a threat, but I'm unsure how much I should be worried about it with this type of data (similar size/contents, but a relatively small amount of possibilities). I think up to even 0.1% collision would be acceptable which is probably way more than enough.

Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone? Are there certain hash functions I should use for this type of thing? Anyone have suggestions of where to look next?

Thanks!

Combine 2 Rows From Derived Table Into 1 Row W/o Repeating Query?

Aug 1, 2007

I'm trying not to use a temp table, but i may have to do so..
I'm using sql2005 for this case.

i have a derived table that makes the following results:

ID Status Name

2 1 "A"

2 2 "B"

I want to get the following:

ID Name1 Name2

2 "A" "B"

but like I said before, I can't repeat the query that gets the first 2 rows, as it's pretty invovled. a temp table is the best route I see right now, but I just wanted to be sure I'm not missing something. If I've aliased it as 'results', is there a way to alias results again as something else? or maybe a trick with CTEs? I will try that! It seems promising.

Report Headers Vs Page Headers

Feb 8, 2007

Hi, this is probably a simple question but I just can't figure it out. I'm using SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 sp1.

I'm trying to design a report that displays a particular embedded image on the first page, and then a different one on every subsequent page. I.e full, fancy company logo on the first page, and a trimmed down version on every other. In Crystal, I would have simply used the Report Header and Page Header sections to achieve this - easy.

However, in SQL Reporting Services, there is only a Page Header section - therefore whatever I place in the Page Header shows on every page. Now, I know how to stop it displaying on the first page, but I don't know how to display the other image instead.

I read in a support forum that it is possible to do this by "placing report items above or below your data regions" but I can't get it to work.

Grateful for any assistance.

Matt

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Pivot Unknown Number Of Rows To Columns Using Data As Column Headers

Sep 10, 2015

I have a single table that consist of 4 columns. Entity, ParamName, ParamsValue and ParamiValue. This table stores normalized Late Fee related parameters for apartments. The Entity field contains a code that identifies the apartment complex. The ParamName in a textual field that contains the name of the parameter that the other 2 fields define the value for; ParamsValue and ParamiValue. If the Late Fee parameter (as named in ParamName is something numerical then the value for that parameter can be found in ParamiValue else its in ParamsValue.

I don't know if 'Pivot' is the correct term to use for describing what I am trying to do because I've looked at the Pivot examples and I don't see how that will work for this. Using the Table and data as provided below, how would I construct a query so that I get 1 row per Entity in which the columns are the ParamsValue or ParamiValue for the ParamName listed in the column header (for the query)?

Below is the DDL to create the table and populate it.

Inserts Overwriting

Nov 21, 2001

Hi,
I have a small web application managing complaints. During multiuser testing we noticed that when complaints where added at "exactly" the same time one complaint text seemed to be over writing the other, and returning the current max value for table id as current complaint number.

I tested in my development environment and was able to recreate reasonably easily ( 1 go out of 3 recreated the issue ). The Id column itself is an auto increment ( primary key ), so I can't think of a concievable reason why one record should overwrite another. I should say that I am assuming the record is overwritten, perhaps there is a clash and one complaint is ignored by the database.

Have anyone encountered this in the past?

Thanks

Possibly I could make a database that is not in any folder and then make an update to it from the newly recieved database, but I am not sure how that would be done.

Problem With Matrix (in Subreport, Multiple Groups), Groups Repeating First Row Data

Jan 25, 2008

I have a new SQL 2005 (SP2) Reporting Services server to which I've just upgraded and deployed some SSRS 2000 reports.

I have a subreport that contains a matrix with two groups. The report data seems to be inexplicably repeating the data for the first row in the group for all rows in the group. Example:

ID1
ID2
DisplayData

1
1
A

1
2
B

1
3
C

2
1
A

2
2
B

2
3
C

Parent group is on ID1, child group is on ID2, report would show:

1
1
A

2
A

3
A

2
1
A

2
A

3
A

Is this a matrix bug in 2005 SP2, or do I need to do something differently? I can no longer pull a comparison version from an SSRS 2000 server to verify, but I believe it was working as expected before...
