ReportServer And ReportManager Security

Jan 29, 2008

How do you prevent others from viewing the ReportServer and ReportManager in a browser? I know you can assign roles to individuals but as far as I know of that is only referring to the actual report. But I would like to have just certain individuals be able to view the ReportServer and ReportManager in a browser. Also does creating these security limitations affect being able to link and display a report in a pdf format?

Any information is helpful.

Thanks!

Reporting Services Install Not Creating Virtual Directories In Default Web Site

Jan 29, 2008

Hi,

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and I can't get Reporting Services to create the virtual directories in Default Web Site, instead it creates a new web site called Report Server with the virtual directories under that, this Report Server website points to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerInetPubwwwroot. Any ideas as to why this happens? My Default Web Site is called Default Website from the initial IIS install , I am on XP Pro SP 2 with IIS 5.1.
This is an issue for me since I don't want to have on another site that doesn't have the aspnet mapings.

I am dumbfounded and can't figure out what to do to make it not do that with the default configuration option checked during install. Should I uninstall and reinstall again and not use the default configuration?

Regards,

Chris

Reporting Services ReportServer DB Reporting - 3rd Party Tool ?

Jan 15, 2007

HI There

We are required to gather certain information regarding reporting services.

Which reports were requested, by whom , how long did they run for, what parameters were passed etc etc.

I see that the system tables do provide some of this information, is there a 3rd party tool or something we can use to gather all this type of information for us?

This is for reporting services 2000 and 2005.

Thanx

Reporting Services :: Parameter Is Missing A Value

Nov 9, 2008

I have an issue where I need to set a whole bunch of internal parameters' values to the result of a dataset first executed with the report...nothing new or majestic about it.

The problem is that the 'First dataset', under some parameter values, return no records..it is empty (which is fine). But this meas that these internal parameters error my report as the 'NEED' a value even though I have specified a default, I still get the 'Paremeter X is missing a value' error. I just want the other datasets, which are reliant on these erroring parameters to either execute with parameter values of 0 or not execute at all. Thus I want the sub datasets to return with blank data in this case or not execute at all.

How can I achieve this?

IIS 6 MMC Problem With ReportServer And ASP.NET Configuration

Feb 14, 2006

Hello,

I had a working Report server till I did the following:

- Go to IIS 6 MMC

- Display Reportserver vs properties

- click on the ASP.NET tab (2.0 50727)

- click on the "Edit Configuration" button

- Look at the config, do not change nothing

- Click OK

This has kill the Report server, it is now giving an error:

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Just to see, I did the exact same thing on another test machine and it did screw up the report server as well.

Any idea on how I can fix, this? I tried to repair ASP.net 2 and uninstall reinstall IIS6 as well as deleting and recreating the reports and reportserver vs.

Thanks

Philippe

Do You Use The Reporting Services Configuration Files And If So, How?

Jan 15, 2007

Wondering if I could get some feedback from 'you All' on how you use the Reporting Services configuration files.

Specifically, I'm interested in -

1) Have you ever made changes to the configuration files? (Yes/No; if Yes - how often?)

2) What if any operations you commonly do in the files? (list)

3) Do you script or otherwise have automated solutions for updating these files? (Yes/No; if Yes - in what scenarios; if No - did you try to?)

Any other feedback about the configuration files is also welcome.

Thanks,

Hello all

I am trying to configure reporting services using the Configuration Tool. I get all checks green except for Encryption Keys (Blue), Initialization (Grey), and Email Settings and Execution Account (both Yellow). I am not too worried about the yellow and blue ones because I have read that other people have the same, but I was wondering how to make Initialization available to configure. I am running SQL Server 2005 - Standard Edition.

Thanks for the help,

Import Specification Missing In Reporting Services

I am using Reporting Services to create reports on an Access database. I am using the OLEDB provider to connect to the Access 2000 database file. Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0. Missing Embedded Images In Reporting Services

May 24, 2007

We currently have reports for a client running on SQL 2000 RS. The strange thing (problem) is that we can see any embedded image in the Report when we Preview it, and view it on our testing server (SQL 2000), but at the client's site (also running SQL 2000) the images don't appear at all. The same goes for any graphs inside the report as well. This is very puzzling as we cannot find out what the problem is. The other strange thing is that we can see the images on the client's site when running them through Report Manager, but when we go through the application using the Reports, then the images do not appear at all. We have no idea of what's wrong. The app is running on 2003 Server x64, the database is being hosted on another server running 2003 Server, and the report server is running on another server running Windows 2000 Server.

Any help will be much appreciated.

2005 Reporting Services Configuration Issues

May 3, 2007

Hi All -
I am trying to configure reporting services on virtual machine but unable to succeed. I never touched this topic before SQL Server 2005. The left hand side options in Reporting Services Configuration Manager such as Server Status, Virtual Directories, Web Identity works fine but it fails in Database Setup section
Here are the details:
AppServer: SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services & Client components build# 2153 (with SP1 & SP1 hotfix)
going to apply SP2 and Add-on component after the configuration
DBServer: SQL Server 2005 Database Services & Client components build# 2153 (with SP1 & SP1 hotfix)
OS: Windows 2003 Server with SP1
IIS version on AppServer: 6

I have SQL 2005 Reporting services and 2005 Database Engine on 2 different machines.

Here is the error message I am receiving when I try to apply the script in "Database Setup" section of Reporting Services Configuration Manager
It did not log any errors in SQL Server however it shows a warning message in Event Log
Event Log message - "The RSReportServer.config file has been modified."

Configuration Manager error message - It shows me "Create a Grants Rights Script" task failed
"System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementScope.InitializeGuts(Object o)
at System.Management.ManagementScope.Initialize()
at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Initialize()
at System.Management.ManagementObjectSearcher.Get()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.WebUtil.GetIPAddresses(String machine)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.DatabaseSetupPanel.IsLocalDbServer(String dbServer)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.DatabaseSetupPanel.SetDatabaseConnectionTask(String connectionString, String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String account, String password, Boolean upgrade, String dbVersion)"

I have captured the screenshot, let me know if I can send this.

One of my friends suggested the following and I have tried the first option but could not work - Option I)
Our account that is used for database connection should have
1) public and RSExecRole roles for the ReportServerDatabase.
2) RSExecRole roles for the master, msdb , and ReportServerTempDB databases.

Else - Option II)
we can run the Reporting Service Windows Service under the local System Account and then the credentials type for the database set up would be Service credentials. This way we would have more permission.

Did anyone face this problem? how should I resolve this?

Anyone have steps to follow as I feel of missing something in the configuration steps?
Any information/ suggestions/ pointer on this are higly appreciated.

Thanks in advance !!
-Satya

SQL 2005 - Reporting Services Configuration Error.. Pls Help..

Aug 12, 2007

Hi,

I've installed SQL 2005 on a Windows 2003 R2 Server, I also installed another Web Server (Another Windows 2003 R2 Server) on a different machine.
I've installed the Reporting Services on the Web Server.
When I am trying to configure the report server, I successfully created the Virtual Directories, but when trying to do the "Database Setup" step, I am getting an error on the "Create a Grants Rights Script", with this message:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.DatabaseSetupPanel.SetDatabaseConnectionTask(String connectionString, String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String account, String password, Boolean upgrade, String dbVersion)

As a result, I cannot run the reports nor get to the folder.aspx page on the manager side of the application.
I am getting this HTML msg:
The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated) (rsRPCError) Get Online Help

When installing the Reporing Server on the SQL Server machine, it works with no problems, and I am doing everything the same.

Would appreciate your help, I've been working on this for few days with no luck.

Thank you!

I do full installation and have everything I need : BIDS, reporting config tool etc, but there is no reporting service available. So I get error when try to run reporting services configuration tool. Error claims that it can't find any reporting services on my machine. I have looked at services list in my PC and there is no reporting services. So my question is how to install reporting services as stand alone ?

Recently we upgraded to SSRS-2008 R2 from SSRS-2008 (enterprise edition) and noticed that all the underlines for hyper-links in all reports are missing. Also the font color has reset back to default color (had set to blue to indicate a hyperlink).

Redeployed the same report from VS-2008 SP1 but no luck. Although the formatting (color + underline) looks ok in the preview mode in VS.if there's any workarounds as many end users are getting confued with this change.

I have deployed Lync 2013 and monitoring which all went through fine. However just one of the monitoring reports (conference join time) shows no data even though there is data within SQL All other reports are fine and all datainformation is displayed. I've tired to publish the reports again but this has not made any difference.

Reporting Services :: Why SSRS Is Looking For Using Machine Configuration File

Aug 6, 2014

I am using BIDS 2012.I am getting this error: Unable to load assembly U2.

Data.Client, Version=2.1.0.0, Culture=neutral , PublicKeyToken=9ab9148678f4f448, Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ServerConfigurationErrorException: The report server has encountered a configuration error.
---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'U2.Data.Client, Version=2.1.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=9ab9148678f4f448' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

[code]....

I am expecting
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319configmachine.config

how can I force SSRS to use "C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319configmachine.config".

Reporting Services Installation Error

Apr 16, 2004

I've just tried to install SQL Reporting services on my development workstation.

I was going well but suddenly I got an error that my SQL server instance is not supported.
I am running SQL Server 2000 desktop edition, service pack 3.0.

Is that true that is is not supported or it is just a bug in installation ?

Thanks

Mikhail

SQL Reporting Services Installation Problem

Aug 12, 2004

I have this situation in my current project.
I’m trying to install SQL Reporting services on two machines: the web part on a web server, the databases on a SQL Server. The ASP.NET process is running under a custom account that I created, let's say, 'MyAccountASPNET' . I'm using this account to connect to the SQL server. I already have a web application that is using this configuration to connect to SQL.
Now, during the SQL reporting services installation, at the end of the installation, while running the scripts to create the databases, I'm getting this message: 'The account 'MyAccountASPNET' is not a valid domain name <domain/username>. Please use the correct name.'
How am I suppose to use <domain/username> , while the two servers are not in a domain, on each of them I have a user 'MyAccountASPNET' with the same password, but of course the users are 'WebserverMyAccountASPNET' and 'SQLServerMyAccountASPNET'.
Any idea how to solve this problem?
Thanks
