Default Password For System Administrator

Nov 16, 2007

We recently downloaded and installed SQL Express as it was a required program for our new database management software. When trying to install my database management software I was asked to Login to the SQL server. I entered the SQLEXPRESS server, however, I do not have the SA password. When SQL Express installed it did not ask for a password only for a user name and company. I am running Windows Small Business Server with the Administrator and no password. We did not assign a password to the Administrator account yet.

I have tried to leave the password blank using the login SA and I get error message 28000 Login failed for user. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection.

Is there a default password for SA? Or in the alternative, how do I create a user or associate an exising Windows user with a trusted SQL server connection?

SQL Service Failuer After Administrator Password Change

Sep 24, 1999

Hopefully, someone has a clue about this. We recently upgraded from SQL 6.5 to 7.0. Everything was fine until we changed the administrator
password for our NT domain, which has about 26 servers on it. We also changed the local NT domain on the SQL server machine to match the
network NT domain password. This seemed to work until a reboot a couple of days later. No we get a "failure to start do to logon failuer" message.
Anyone experienced this problem?

Changing The Administrator Password MURDERED My Reports!

Nov 18, 2007

Hi. I changed the Administrators Login password on my web & data base servers, both of which are hosted on Windows Server 2003 and run iis6. This caused the reports (I'm using 2005 Reporting services) to stop running. Rather I get the error: "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized"

I made the necessary adjustments to the web.config and the reports just won't run. I have been struggling over this all day. Can anyone offer me some advice?

Thanks

SQL 2012 :: SA Password Reset Recovery

Jun 29, 2015

3rd party company set up SQL 2008 R2 SP1(awhile ago, years), they disabled SA no other logon was created with Admin rights, Database is Mixed Mode, never had a DBA. the database is from a Transactional system. Now comes me. I need to set up backups, maintenance etc..

I have been provided System AdminLocal Admin rights on the Server. The Server has been set up like a Domain Controller. I have tried all of the command line options that I know and I can find. I have not been able to get any to work, they all fail login to SQL. Before I take the route of reinstalling SQL on the server I want to make sure I haven't missed any thing, especially since this is a 100% production environment with 3rd party processes and applications attached that are not documented or supported. (nightmare)

I would prefer a cmdline or PowerShell script (ps2).I figure that the holiday is coming up so whatever I will end up needing to do I will be able to complete over the holiday weekend when it is down.

One set I tried as "run as Admin"
SQLServr.Exe –m
SQLCMD –S <Server_NameInstance_Name>
CREATE LOGIN ‘<Login_Name>’ with PASSWORD=’<Password>’
GO
SP_ADDSRVROLEMEMBER '<Login_Name>','SYSADMIN'

I should point out the rest of our environments are SQL 2012

HELP! Reset Dbo Login Id Password, Cannot Get Company Website Up

Mar 2, 2007

Our company website runs off of Microsoft SQL Server. Someone tried changing the 'administrative' password but the way that they did it locks us out of the database.

Under Enterprise Manager there is a Security group, underneath here is a login. The person reset the password here on the login id that is the DBO for our website's database. Underneath the database in Enterprise Manager the dbo uses this login id. Where else does the password need to get reset in order for that login id to access the database? We cannot set it back to the previous password because it is unknown.

When we go to our website we get the following error:
Error Executing Database Query.
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect

Please try the following:
Enable Robust Exception Information to provide greater detail about the source of errors. In the Administrator, click Debugging & Logging > Debugging Settings, and select the Robust Exception Information option.
Check the ColdFusion documentation to verify that you are using the correct syntax.
Search the Knowledge Base to find a solution to your problem.

SQL Server Agent Job Will Not Retain Package Password (encrypt Sensitive With Password)

Apr 1, 2008

I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure!
However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it.
If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.

I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.

This is driving me insane!
I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..

The code I use is:
DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E

and I get

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF

although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.

Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?

Thank you

SQL 2005 SP2 - Windows 2003 Ent SP1 - Password Does Not Meet The Password Policy DLL

Jun 18, 2007

I am receiving the following error message when attempting to create a new SQL Authenticated login id.

Password validation failed. The password does not meet the requirements of the password filter DLL. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15119)

I have four servers all running SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003 Ent. SP1. Of the four servers, only one received the above error message using the same TSQL below.

CREATE LOGIN TEST_LOGIN WITH PASSWORD = 'pvif9dal' MUST_CHANGE, CHECK_EXPIRATION = ON

All four servers are in the same domain, which if I understand correctly, the password policies are therefore inherited at the OS level by the domain. The password being used is within the password policies of the domain.

Any ideas as to a root cause?

Remember My Password Is Forgetting Password

Mar 11, 2008

On the login prompt for Report Server, there is a checkbox option to "Remember my Password." I check this, login successfully... but when returning to the Report Server, I am again prompted for the password, although the user name is saved. No matter how many times I do this, the password will not save in IE7. I have tried this on 3 different computers with IE7. In IE 6, I do not even get the checkbox as an option, just the user name/password prompt. In Firefox, the password saves fine. Any ideas what would be causing this?

Thanks,

Brian

MS Web Administrator And IE ... Not Working Right

Oct 1, 2004

Hey folks,

First ... want to applaud the creators/managers of this site. I have found almost all the answers I have had. However, got something new.

I am setting up Web Data Administrator from MS on a Windows 2003/IIS6 server connecting to our SQL 2000 boxes. The server has .Net 1.1 SP1. I have set this up on a Windows 2000/IIS5 server and it worked but was slow. It has .Net 1.1 and has been patched to SP1. When I got the new copy setup on IIS6, IE would not work with it but Firefox does. (I love the irony!) Going back to IIS5 copy, it doesn't work now in IE but it does in Firefox. Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jared

Cannot Access DB As A Non-administrator

From a client machine, if the user is logged on as Windows Administrator, my application connects to the database server just fine. If the client is logged on as a non-administrator, then my app cannot connect. Here is my connection string:

"Server=ServerNameSQLEXPRESS;Database=DBName;Trusted_Connection=True;Connection Timeout=30"

I use TCP/IP.

How can I fix this? Any help will be appreciated.
