Hey, I have created a webpage using visual web developer and i want to use it as a frontend to a database. I want to be able to insert a new line into a table using a drop down menus then a 'submit' button. How do I get the submit button to run the following sql query?

I am new to ASP.NET so please excuse what may seem like a dumb question. I have a stored procedure that I need to run when the user clicks on our submit button. I am using Visual Studio 2005 and thought I could use the SqlDataSOurce Control. Hi all! I'm a newbie when it comes to SSIS and web development (I'm currently in school for Mechanical Engineering). I'm trying to develop a website in which I can upload an excel file and have the contents written to a SQL database. I have been successful in creating a package in which I point to an excel file and it writes the contents to the desired database. With this, I was hoping that I can modify my website to take the file which is being uploaded, change the name, and then have the SSIS package run, in which it will look for the named file in a certain directory and upload the contents to the SQL server.
Ideally this would be the order of events:
User selects and uploads a file to the server (button click) Server renames it and places it in a certain directory SSIS package runs and extracts the data to SQL database
Ok, this seems really straightforward, but I'm completely lost. I created a sqldatasource control that uses an INSERT stored procedure. I can click on test it tests just fine, inserts everything into the database.Now, I want this sqldatasource control to fire when a button is clicked, but I have no idea how to do this, I looked at the parameters and cant find an execute or anything like that to use. Let me know how to execute this sqldatasource, it'd really help me out. Hi everyone.I am trying to write 2 INSERT INTO statements into a Button click event. Both statements go to the same database but differnet tables. The first statement works fine but the 2nd causes an error with the Try, Catch, Finally statement. I'm new to asp.net and I have gotten quite far with books and such but I'm stuck at this point. I have a web form that is mostly populated with data pulled from AD and all the user does is make a selection in two drop lists and enter their initials to sign. I can't figure out how to insert a record into a table when buttin pressed. I verified that all the data types are correct so it shoud pass the info but its just not going anywhere. Soo the question is: When creating a SQLDataSource in the wizard you get to the pont where you select the option . It says that by using this datasource you can select to update delete and insert. So my question is if i am creating a select statement to reterieve the data from the Table, then what does it do it do if my intention is to only reterie the data. Or what is the other way that it could be helpful to me ??

If I start a long running query running on a background thread is there a way to abort the query so that it does not continue running on SQL server?
The query would be running on SQL Server 2005 from a Windows form application using the Background worker component. So the query would have been started from the background workers DoWork event using ado.net. If the user clicks an abort button in the UI I would want the query to die so that it does not continue to use sql server resources.

When I create a Report Server Project Using Visual Studio 2005 with SQL Server 2005 I can create a data source with no problem and the test shows it is good good.
When I next create a report and go to the query builder using that same data source and click on the query builder button I see the Query Builder screen, but there is no toggle button in the top left of the screen so I cannot go into the graphical mode to see the tables.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Visual Studio and SQL Server but I still have the same problem. What should I do to get the button visible on the screen?

I'm building a RDLC Repor on my ASP.Net VB web application. I added the .rdlc file to the application and created a table to show lines of data binded from a dataset. The thing is:
- The DataSet expects a parameter @intNumber, a identifier to get the correct data to display the correct report.
- I'm using ReportViewer to view the report, and by code I've passed a Report Parameter to the *.RDLC report with success, just like this:

The present issue is the following: I want to use that parameter sent to the report to be sent to the query of the DataSet as parameter to the query to return the data to fill the report. I've heard that this is not possible, just with report server...
Another issue is the print button, also heard that only can appear on report server...no way to display and work on RDLC reports?Very confused right now...these issues are stupid, MS tools should allow these operations, which are not efficient if this is not possibla on RDLC...
I have a file with about 600,000 lines of insert statement given to me by a developer. There are basically 5 inserts into different tables for each Product or Item. Each Insert MUST run in the order specified and must complete before the next insert runs,
To complicate things further, there are triggers that fire on every insert and each trigger must complete its transaction before the next insert starts.
What is the best and most efficient way to run the inserts, while ensuring that each statement completes before the next.
Tried using Serialization but appears some of the transactions overlap and generate errors. Tried disabling the triggers but run into other problems.
At this point I am tempted to run each statement manually
I support a website (ASP.NET 2.0) where recently users have been unable to insert data due to timeout issues. The functionality executes a query that inserts a single row into a SQL Server 2005 db table. I tried running this query from the backend, and it took 4:48 to insert a single row! Interestingly, after that initial agony any similar inserts I tried took no time whatsoever. I have checked the execution plan, but unfortunately don't really know what I'm looking for with inserts, as most of my experience with execution plans is with select statements. Any resources anyone could point me to for troubleshooting this would be much appreciated.
I wrote a trigger that works fine when I insert record by record in the DB. However, when I run a Stored Proc to insert a bunch of records at the same time, the trigger only works for the last record.
Anyone has a clue or a possible solution. The trigger is well tested and works fine.

My table has a running number primary key. I want to insert data to this table and automatically generate running number pk. I try to write SQL command like this. My program is copying several hundred thousand records from an Access DB to a sql server 7 db. It has to do some conversions and lookups along the way. At seemingly random times, a DBCC job gets started up by the system that locks up my program.
Any thoughts as to why it happens? What I can do to detect/prevent it so that my program doesn't lock up?

1) is there any way to run a query over a query without having to create a table with the results of the first query? (would drop table work? If so, how?

In a Data Flow Task, I have an insert that occurs into a SQL Server 2000 table from a fixed width flat file. The SQL Server table that the data goes into is accessed through an OLE DB connection manager that uses the Native OLE DBMicrosoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.
In the OLE DB Destination, I changed the access mode from Table or View - fast load to Table or View because I needed to implement OLE DB Destination Error Output. The Error output goes to a SQL Server 2000 table that uses the same connection manager.
The OLE DB Destination Editor Error Output 'Error' option is configured to 'Redirect' the row. 'Set this value to selected cells' is set to 'Fail component'.
Was changing the access mode the simple reason why the insert from the flat file takes so much longer, or could there be other problems?

I can't see any way of doing this query though I know the PARENT is the reports_to column and that the UNITNO is the Department but can't find any way to run the query. Hoping you guys can help
Presumably, an RDL data set is only queried once before generating a report. And presumably, this is true even if the data set feeds a list control. However, I'd like to know if I can cause a data set to be queried repeatedly from a list control. I need to do this, because the data set contains aggregate functions that would be impacted by each "pass" the list control would make.
Is it possible to make a data set queried repeatedly in this fashion?
I have a pretty complex query that aggregates lots of data and inserts multiple rows of that data into a reporting table. When I call this SPROC from SQL Server Management Studio, it executes in under 3 seconds. When I try to execute the same SPROC using .NET's SqlCommand object the query runs indefinitely until the CommandTimeout is reached. Why would this SPROC behave differently with the same inputs, but being called from .NET? Thanks for your help!
Ok, here's a funky one That I can't find an expanation for. If I go into EM and choose a table from a database and return all rows, I get immediate results and can start browsing records. If I go into query analyzer and do a select * on the same table, it takes up to 20-25 minutes to return the result set. This used to only take like 5 mins. What gives? Anyone seen this before?
