SQL 2000 Installation Problems On XP- Just Wont Work!

Jun 1, 2004

Ive got some problems that are causing me a major headache. I am running windows XP Pro and i have the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition Evaluation cd but when i auto-run to install it the installation wizard just wont come up.

If i try to run it a second time it says another instance of setup is already running, but nothing ever happens. Can anybody tell me why this is?? My work has been stalled for days trying to figure this out. Thanks.

Out Of The Box Installation Doesn't Work, Runs Me In Circles...

Dec 20, 2007

A fresh install on Windows Server 2003 of SQL Server 2005 & Reporting Services...

In Reporting Services Configuration Manager...

Under Web Service Identity I have a red X (bad)...

ASP.NET Service Account is grey, can't enter anything there. Isn't is always ASP.NET?

Says: Specify the application pool in which to run the Report Server Web Service.

So I set this to the default app pool for both Report Server and Report Manager. I get an error "There was an error setting the identity for the report service. Click tell me more, get:

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: A virtual directory must first be created before performing this operation.

at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetWebServiceIdentity(String applicationPool)

Okay no problem... Goto the Report Service Virtual Directory task. I have Name and WebSite. Can't enter anything in either text box. Click NEW only choice is Report Server, Default web site. Say OK, it tells me that the virtual directory already exists. Fine, click Apply Default Settings. I get:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005)
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementObject.InvokeMethod(String methodName, ManagementBaseObject inParameters, InvokeMethodOptions options)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.ResetVirtualDirectoryMappings()

And the HELP button is disabled, GREAT!!

Again, this is a FRESH install on a NEW Server, FRESH O/S, FRESH SQL Server.

So I'm caught in a "Catch-22" I can't set the Web Service Identity because it doesn't think I have a virtual directory, but I can't create the virtual directory because it crashes. First time in a long time a Microsoft Product didn't work in default installation mode -- and made me look real silly after telling the client how simple and easy SQL Server Reporting services were to use and now can't make it run at all.

*Help* I'm sure the answer is an easy one.

SQL Server 2005 Installation Vista (+SP2), No Services, Doesnt Work

Nov 16, 2007

While installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on Windows Vista Ultimate
the setup alerts me "there are known compatibility problems, please
install SP2 after this". So ok, all went nice and installed without error.
IIS 7 installed fully, so all green in setup display.
(But after installation i do not see any service which begins with SQL***...)
At the end, the setup wanted to start the administration Tool.
Ok, but my name was not listed, so i could not add me to the permitted users.
I can not use any tool, because i have no rights.

Some Ideas?

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.3042.00
Microsoft Analysis Services-Clienttools 2005.090.3042.00
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205)
Microsoft MSXML 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.6000.16546
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.312
Betriebssystem 6.0.6000

Business Intelligence Development Studio Installation Doesn't Work

Jan 31, 2007

Hello,

I have just tried to install (among other things) BIDS, and have found it hasn't worked. I tried it once over an old SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installation, and that failed, so I followed the advice of others and removed it. In fact I removed everything I could find to do with SQL Server 2005, and started right from the beginning (restarted after removing everything). My steps were:

1) Install SQL Express with Advanced Services (SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE, 240 MB, downloaded today from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/). Choose to install all components, with default options. Restart when complete.

2) Install SQL Express Tools (SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE, 218 MB, dowloaded today from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/). Choose only to install BIDS (one of four components).

When it was all over, I tried to fire up BIDS via the start menu (All Programs / Microsoft SQL Server 2005 / SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio), and got an error to say the shortcut to "devenv.exe" couldn't be found. Sure enough, it isn't where it should be - in fact it is not there at all.

As a note, I observed that when I went to install BIDS as per step 2 above, the installer made some claims about it already being installed, and that it would perform an upgrade...??

Something is not right here... By the way, I have installed BIDS on another machine some months ago, with no problems. Probably an older version at the time...

Hope someone can help.

Nick

SQL Server 2000 Installation

May 26, 2004

I just installed SQL Server 2000 Developers edition on my computer. After installation I tried to create a simple table which I was unable to do. When I attempted to create the table, I went into SQL Server Enterprise Manager and under Console Root I extended / Microsoft SQL Servers / SQL Server Group / (local) Windows NT when it gave me the following 2 message box errors :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error 1069-(The service did not start due to login failure)occured while preforming this server operation on the MSSQL service.

---and---

A connection could not be established to (local).

Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
ConnectionOpen(Connect()).

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Servier registion properties(by right-
clicking on the (local) node) and try again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have Windows XP Professional and currently run IIS. I have tried re-registering without success and at this point I don't know what I need to do in order to correct these errors and create a simple table.

New Installation Of Sql Server 2000

Feb 22, 2005

Hello Guru's, I need your help!

I installed sql server 2000 sp2 standard edition on Windows 2003, when
installing, it said "This version is not supported on this os", but I was told
to continue installing the software and that I could install the latest
security patches to bring it up to date. Will that work? Do I need to do
anything else? SQL Server 2000 is up and running on the box. When running
the statement " select @@version" it informed me that I was at 8.00.194
patch level. How can I tell if SQL Server 2000 is 32 or 64 bit? I was
trying to download the lasted patch and it asked for that info. Thanks.--

Help With Installation Of SQL Server 2000 SP4

Aug 15, 2006

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me here. To be honest, this is my first time i have encountered SQL Server 2000 SP4. I need some guidance as to how to install and set up the SQL Server 2000 SP4. I have done it with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and it's (I think) a lot easier to install and get it going.

My computer runs on windows XP Pro (windows 32bit). I got confused when i got to the following microsoft webpage - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8e2dfc8d-c20e-4446-99a9-b7f0213f8bc5&DisplayLang=en. I downloaded SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE. And when running the setup.bat, the message came up saying "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine. setup will now exit". What do i need to have the SQL Server 2000 installed on my machine?

Thank you in advance

SQL Server 2000: TCP/IP Doesn't Seem To Work

Nov 24, 2006

I have the following situation: A webserver in a DMZ which connects to a DbServer in a Domain.

but when I try to make a ODBC connection on the webserver I get the well-known "Server does not exist or access denied" error.

I tried using IP address as well as FQDN. I turned off the firewall in the router (I'm able to access shares and what not from the webserver so the firewall is really turned off).

I think however i have narrowed down the problem to the TCP/IP connection of the SQL Server. Normally when you try from a command prompt
"telnet dbserver 1433" you get a connection. But when I try this to the specific DbServer I get an "unable to connect" error. Even when I try it on the dbserver itself (so telnet localhost 1433). This should work always?

In the network configuration of the sql server the Named Piped as well as the TCP/IP protocols are enabled. TCP/IP is offcourse configured on port 1433.

How can I fix this problem?

We are looking at spending *quite* a bit of money to implement it, but I need opinions of what its like from the people that actually use it & look after it.

e.g.

DOES IT WORK LIKE IT SHOULD????????
Is it reliable?
Is it resource hungry?
Are there lots of bugs?

All repsonses very welcome. No response too small.

SQL Server 2000 Installation Hang

Sep 30, 2004

Hi,

I am using Windows 2003 Standard Server (stand alone) and trying to install SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition. The installation stops whenever I have entered the sa password (the dialog box disappeared and then nothing happed, but the "setupsql" process (something like this) is still there).

The same happened when I install SQL Server 2000 in Windows 2000 Server. For Win2K, I can first install SQL Server 7.0 and then upgrade to 2000 (same SQL Server 2000 installation CD!). However, Windows 2003 doesn't support SQL Server 7.0. So I can't use this method...

Any idea?

Thanks.

Michael

*I have turned off Norton already.

Unattended Installation Of SQL 2000 Fails

Mar 23, 2004

We're trying to use the unattended installation method for installing SQL 2000 on Windows 2000 servers. I've installed it (through terminal server) on two machines successfully, and two machines unsuccessfully. On the unsuccessful machines, it fails with no errors, and no SQL files are installed (bombs out almost immediately).

Anyone else had this problem? Could it possibly be a hardware issue?
