SQL Server System Configuration Checker - Installation Error

Jan 3, 2007

hello,

I downloaded SQL Server 2005 from Microsoft's website and tried to install.

First I downloaded and installed filename "dotnetfx.exe" according to the install guide. Installed without any issues.

Then i tried to install filename: "SQLEXPR.exe"- the main SQL Server software- which I also downloaded from Microsoft. I get the error below and here is how i got it.

------------------
ERROR:
The SQL Server system configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine YOUR-07NFK16HDF Error:2147749896(0x80041008)
--------------------

I clicked on the executable file SQLEXPR.exe, then,
after extracting the file,

after the end user license agreement...

the next screen says "installing prerequisites Microsoft SQL server 2005 setup support files, the required components were installed successfully"

then i hit "next", then I see the screen with message (below:

"system configuration check....SQL server setup is scannong your computers configuration".
During this process(system configuration check), this is when I get the error ERROR- above. The pop-up error screen has a help icon.

clicking on help gives me the info below and says i must send it across the internet

Link ID = 20476
Product Name = Microsoft SQL server
Product version = 9.00.2047.00
message source = setup.rll
messageID = 70342

the resulting information says that there is no such information about message source in the knowledge database.

-----
pls what is the problem. Is it with the downloaded file(I got it from Microsoft's SQL Server home page)...and pls what is the WMI configuration on my machine?

Im using a Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop, WIn XP with SP2.

thanks

Sql Server 2005 Operating System Compatibility Warning Message In System Configuration Check

Apr 3, 2007

Ok guys, I am trying to install Sql server 2005 on Vista but I am still stuck with this warning message in the System Configuration Check during Sql server 2K5 installation :

SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility (Warning)
Messages
* SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility

* Some components of this edition of SQL Server are not supported on this operating system. For details, see 'Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005' in Microsoft SQL Server Books Online.

Now, I know I need to install SP2 but how the hell I am going to install SP2 if Sql server 2005 doesn't install any of the components including Sql server Database services, Analysus services, Reporting integration services( only the workstation component is available for installation)?

Any work around for this issue?

P.S.: I didn't install VS.NET 2005 yet, can this solve the problem?

Thanks.

SQL 2005 Setup Configuration

Oct 5, 2007

I'm a Network Administrator that has to do everything from desktop to server, to routing, and DBA so I need a bit of advice. Stretched thin for time and knowledge in the SQL area and trying to do the best I can.

I currently have a MS SQL 2000 database that is 60GB in size for MS Dynamics 8.0 and one that is 2GB that I want to move to a new server.

I've setup and tested it and it all works, now I'm looking for some Best Practices information for best performance. Currently doing about 3,000 transactions a day.

Server is HP ML350-G5 2 Xeon Dual Core 2.0GHz CPUs w/16GB RAM w/external drive bays running 72GB 15K SAS drives with SMART ARRAY P800.
OS is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise w/SP2 - MS SQL 2005 Standard
I have the following drive configurations setup.

C:(RAID1+0)OS - SQL 2005
D:(RAID1+0)Dynamics Application Shared dictionary files for clients
G:(RAID0)BACKUPS (see note below about TEMPDB) I also have a 25GB swap file on this drive maybe better to put in on the D: volume if I put TEMPDB here
H:(RAID1+0)LOGS (2 user db logs and the tempdb log)
I:(RAID1+0)DATA (2 user db - [model, msdb, master]

Recently found that my G: drive (RAID0) only has space for 2 backups (poor space planning on my part) before I need to move the files. Normally I backup the DB with BackupExec 10.1d just fine in about 2 hours over the wire at night since no one is in the DB at night.
Was wondering if putting my TEMPDB there on (RAID0) would be advisable or not. In SQL 2005 it gets rebuilt each time SQL is restarted so it would seem that ensuring it's on a RAID1 or RAID1+0 might not be as necessary as say the DATA files.
Then if I really wanted to I could actually do backups on the I:DATA drive at night and then use TAPE to back that up, and use an automated script to move them off to offline storage once the TAPE backup is done.

For the [model, msdb, master] should they need to be on the I:DATA drive or just leave them on C:OS ? Not sure how much they're actually used.

Also doing some brief testing the Microsoft Dynamics was much slower on the new Server than it was on the original. Odd to me since the new Server is like a McLaren F1 racing a Ford Pinto. The old server is running a single P4 CPU and 6GB RAM

I've set MS SQL 2005 to use 12GB of RAM on the new server so as to leave 4GB for other Server tasks.

I ran the Maintenance Wizard and had it do checks and defrag and index rebuild etc... so not really sure why the speed would be noticeably slower. One thing I did notice is that once a screen query was ran then the next time it was a bit faster but overall I was expecting to see the screens fly by on this new hardware and SQL 2005 but it doesn't really do that.

I've read some of the white papers etc for tuning, but wow I just don't have unlimited hours to do all this analysis, there seem to be hundreds of pages to read on that type of stuff.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Configuration Of SQL SERVER 2005 Express Train For The Accesses Network (TCP/IP)

Feb 11, 2008

Hello. I am called Narsiste.
I have a problem of configuration in SQL server 2005 express train. In fact, I do not know how to make the configuration to tackle the databases SQL server 2005 express train which are on a station has starting from a station B (both being in a network LAN).
But I read in the module of €œconfiguration of the surface of exposure for the services and connections - localhost€? that €œBy defect, the editions Express train, Evaluation and Developer SQL SERVER 2005 authorize only local connections.€?. As it is BY DEFECT, I said myself that it will have to be changed a parameter so that access TCP/IP can go on this version of SQL SERVER.

Here is the message which I have:
€œAn error occurred during the establishment of a connection to the waiter. At the time of connection to SQL Server 2005, this failure can be due to the fact that the default settings of SQL Server do not authorize remote connections. (Provider: Interfaces network SQL, error: 26 - Error during the localization of the waiter/the authority specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)€?.

If somebody encountered this problem in the past, that he wants to inform well me of the solution which he found for this last. Thank you.

Error During First Configuration After Installing Reporting Services (SQL Server 2005 Express)

Jan 27, 2008

Hi,

I have problem during first configuration of Reporting Services from MS SQL 2005 Server Express with Advanced Services SP2. The error occurs when configuring virtual directory (Reporting Services Configuration Manager -> Report Server Virtual Directory). When I try to create new virtual directory I can see following messages:

Number of errors: 0
Create Virtual Directory

The virtual directory was created and assigned.
Changing Secure Connection Level

After last message Windows reports that SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close (and I can send report to Microsoft).

IIS shows that virtual directory under default web site was created.

Evenet viewer (application log) shows .NET Framework 2.0 error:
EventType clr20r3, P1 rsconfigtool.exe, P2 9.0.3042.0, P3 45cd6ee2, P4 rsconfigtool, P5 9.0.242.0, P6 45cd6ee2, P7 15a, P8 5, P9 system.nullreferenceexception, P10 NIL

My environment:
MS SQL Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00
Windows XP Proffessional SP2
IIS 5.1
all components are fresh new installations. The only additional configuration I've made was adding IWAM_<hostname> as WebServiceAccount, all other configuration is default.

Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server Setup Could Not Connect To The Database Service For Server Configuration

Jun 4, 2006

OS: XP-SP2

Not able to install SQL Express 2005.
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.
Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=29515&EvtType=lib%5codbc_connection.cpp%40Do_sqlScript%40OdbcConnection%3a%3aconnect%40connect%40x80090325

Needles to say, above link is useless..

I had managed to install previously, but ran into problems while trying to upsize an MS-Access database, I've tried everything from creating certificate to hacking away at the registry...Log-on with a different account, etc...Anybody knows how to get around this?

Sql 2000 Setup And Configuration

I am in charge of redoing a SQL 2000 box and was wondering what would be the best setup configuration? Should it be setup like an Exchange server, where the log files are on one drive the database files another, and the OS another? I have looked for some kind of documentation thought I had found one but can't find it again. Thanks in advance for your help.

What Is The Optimal Configuration For A Multicore System?

May 14, 2007

I would like to know what options are available from BIOS / OS / SQL and server perspective when configuring or tuning a system with SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005.

For example, I have a system with 4 dual-core Opteron CPUs on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition. However, the OS sees 8 CPUs -- is this the optimal configuration or is it better (if even possible) to configure the system to see only 4 CPUs? The reason for this concern is due to performance problems faced deploying systems with Hyperthreading Technology.

Any documentation or examples in this regard would be very useful. Basically, what are the scenarios that would require a certain type of CPU configuration over another.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Ziggy

Configuration Manager - Which Configuration Type To Chose ?

Jan 14, 2006

It seems to me, that the best way is to have one Environment Varible containing the name of the SQL Server, so that you can look up the configuration in the SSIS Configuration Table when you run the package.

Is this the preferable way of doing it ? I would like to hear some positive/negative comment of why chosing a configuration type instead of another.

It seems to me that putting all of the configuration in the Environment variable is harder work but most secure (server breakdown vs table corruption/database error...)

Let's have some comments

Setup Initial Configuration Compiler Returned Error 0x80040154

Hi there,
I am having a problem following the installation of SQL Server 2005. When i try to run the SQL Server Configuration Manager, i get the following error message:

"Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permission or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 servers with SWL Server Configuration Manager. Class not registered [0x80040154]"

I looked at the thread "Unable to Uninstall SQL server 2005 Express" in which the same error number was mentioned and followed the advice, but still i get the same results. I have also tried
mofcomp "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof" in command prompt, but no luck. Im running windows xp professional SP2.

Ive spent 4 hours on this issue, and even tried uninstalling and installing again, but i am having no luck. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

SQL Server 2005 Configuration Database

May 31, 2007

I am working on creating a configeration database based on the information pulled from a large number (over 40) of servers. I am newly out of college and don't have a lot of experience with things like this, but I am trying to create a configuration database. I need to know the best way to create a connection to all of the SQL servers on my network and then automate the pulling of data from these SQL servers. The types of data I would need are things like Instance ID, DBMS Version, Database Properties, Database Name, Modification Date, Last full backup, last transaction log backup, etc. I have been pointed towards either working with OSQL/SQL CMD, in which case could someone please point me towards a guide, and SSIS, I am reposting this thread in the SSIS area. I need to take all of the gathered data and place it into a central repository database after formatting it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

SQL Server 2005 Connection And Configuration

Feb 27, 2006

Hi,

A couple of small questions for anyone who can help. I am writing an application and am a newbie with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and Visual C# (using Visual Studio 2005 pro).

My application will need to run on 6 different PC's at one time with our office server hosting the database. Since the server is hosting the database, is it necessary for the individual PC's to have SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installed on their hard drives also to communiucate back to the server?

Also, where can I find some nice example code for connecting and performing some simple tasks under C#?

Reporting Services Configuration And Database Setup Error Invalid Object Name 'sysdatabases'

Sep 14, 2007

Yesterday, literally I was banging my head to the wall, kept getting this error:

A Connection could not be established with the information provided. Hit OK to change your connection settings.
Invalid object name 'sysdatabases'.

I uninstall and re-install back the reporting services couple times and I kept getting the same error.
I have 2 instances of SQL Server on the same Server:

SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2005
The 2 instances work side by side, I was wondering if this causing the error.

Can anyone help out with this problem?

Thanks - John

Cannot Connect To SQL Server 2005 DB From ASP.NET Configuration Tool

Sep 25, 2006

Hello,I am trying to connect to a DB, which is hosted on an SQL Server 2005 by a provider, using ASP.NET Configuration Tool. The result is the following error when I click on the Security Tab:---There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) ---The hosting provider checked that my connection string is correct. They do not know why I get the error, though. Here is a relevant snippet from my web.config:<connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer" /> <add name="LocalSqlServer"connectionString="Data Source=ABC;Integrated Security=false;Initial Catalog=ABC;User ID=ABC;Password=ABC"providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /></connectionStrings>ABC is a mock :)Could anyone pls help? It is much appreciated.

~ Regarding SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration ~

Nov 9, 2006

Sorry for the annoying. I would like to the configuration settings for the surface area. There's an option which able to let us change computer (whether is local computer or remote computer). Let say I put my own computer's name (Hans as example) for configuration as the remote compute, it's work fine to me. However, if I put my remote computer's name, it displays this error message to me.

Error :

Computer Tomato does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again.

I am sure that the remote computer is working since I am able to ping the remote computer and test on telnet as well. But why it seems that surface area can't detect my remote computer. Hope can get some resistance from everyone here. Thanx alot.

Best Regards,

Hans
