Finding Port Number In SQL Server 2005

I know the ..Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOGErrorLog on the server contains the information. But that needs I to RDP to the server or open the file remotely. Is there any other way to find out the port from my SSMS connection?

I remember in SQL Server 2000 you could find the information by choosing Properties of a connection in EM and click on the Network Configuration button. (I know it works when you are ON THE SERVER! But when I tried from my desktop, pressing the button didn't do anything)

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Firewall Port

Question: would opening only SQL port between these two servers be enough or some other ports have to be open as well? (The packages only select and bring data back to Server_A or transfer data from Server_A to the databases and do inserts. Nothing else.)

Our challenge is how to capture deleted job details, after incident happen we could see error details only in this log.

We can run profile to trace but we don’t know when it will trigger and we cannot possible keep active profiler as it will kill server.so we can't run the trace for log time as we don't know when the issue happens.

Jul 31, 2014

I'm trying to configure a named instances of SQL Server 2012 SP2 to have specific IP addresses and listen to that IP on port 1433. Alongside this, I have the default instance running on a different IP and listening to that on port 1433.I've managed to get them configured so that they are reachable using the IP, and looking at the log for each they are listening correctly on that IP on port 1433; in addition, the default instance connects fine using the SERVERNAME.However, when I try and connect to the named instance using the SERVERNAME/INSTANCENAME syntax, I receive the following:-

"Cannot connect to SERVERINSTANCE.
Instance failure. (System.Data)"

Configuration for the TCP/IP protocol for that instance is as follows:-

Protocol Tab

Enabled= Yes
Keep Alive = 30000
Listen All = No

IP addresses Tab

IP1
Active = Yes
Enabled = Yes
IP Address = 10.1.1.1
TCP Dynamic Ports = 0
TCP Port = 1433

The SQL Browser service is running and prior to switching off Listen To All, I could connect to the instance remotely using the instance name.

SQL Server 2012 :: Finding First And Repeated Values

Aug 26, 2014

I'm trying to come up with a query for this data:

CREATE TABLE #Visits (OpportunityID int, ActivityID int, FirstVisit date, ScheduledEnd datetime, isFirstVisit bit, isRepeatVisit bit)

INSERT #Visits (OpportunityID, ActivityID, FirstVisit, ScheduledEnd)
SELECT 1, 1001, '2014-08-17', '2014-08-17 12:00:00.000' UNION ALL
SELECT 1, 1002, '2014-08-17', '2014-08-17 17:04:13.000' UNION ALL
SELECT 2, 1003, '2014-08-18', '2014-08-18 20:39:56.000' UNION ALL

[Code] ....

Here are the expected results:

OpportunityIDActivityIDFirstVisitScheduledEndisFirstVisitisRepeatVisit
110012014-08-172014-08-17 12:00:00.00010
110022014-08-172014-08-17 17:04:13.00001
210032014-08-182014-08-18 20:39:56.00001
210042014-08-182014-08-18 18:00:00.00010

[Code] ....

Basically I'd like to mark the first Activity for each OpportunityID as a First Visit if its ScheduledEnd falls on the same day as the FirstVisit, and otherwise mark it as a Repeat Visit.

I have this so far, but it doesn't pick up on that the ScheduledEnd needs to be on the same day as the FirstVisit date to count as a first visit:

SELECT*,
CASE MIN(ScheduledEnd) OVER (PARTITION BY FirstVisit)
WHEN ScheduledEnd THEN 1
ELSE 0
END AS isFirstVisit,
CASE MIN(ScheduledEnd) OVER (PARTITION BY FirstVisit)
WHEN ScheduledEnd THEN 0
ELSE 1
END AS isRepeatVisit

SQL Server 2012 :: Finding Unused Stored Procedures

Mar 3, 2014

How do you find stale stored procedures ?

In a scenario where a developer created a slight modification of a stored procedure because he was afraid of breaking something else and took the easy way out, and a few more later down the line, multiple versions of a stored proc. doing slightly different things are just laying around.

"Last used" would be useful piece of information to determine the most recent date a stored procedure was called, either by the application itself or by another stored procedure itself called by the application.

Any stored proc not used for more than say 6 months would then be identified as a candidate for clean-up.

So - short or creating - after the fact - a trigger to update the usage date upon each call - which means a lot of work and no result for the next six months, how can one go about this ?

And could this be done in SS2K8 ?

SQL 2012 :: NCI On Row Version / Timestamp Column

Mar 18, 2014

I have a question regarding the rowversion / timestamp column. I want to use it to track changes in some tables and I created a non clustered index on the timestamp column (with three includes) to get a better performance while searching / gathering the data. It works very well, but I experienced a big performance hit on the inserts and my first thoughts are that it has something to do with this index.

I know that this NCI has to be updated with every insert and so this could have an impact on performance, but we have a lot of other indexes as well, which are also get updated with every insert. Why this index / column has such a big impact? Our application use a lot of dynamic cursors, maybe it has something to do with that?

SQL Server 2012 :: Select Statement - Finding Duplicate Records

Originally I thought I could accomplish this goal with a sub query based off of the original duplicate result set but SQL server returns an error.

Below you will find a temp table to create and try in your environment.

ItemNovarchar (50),
SearchNo varchar (50),
Historical int

SQL Server 2012 :: Finding Lowest Level Descendants In Hierarchy

Mar 11, 2015

I've got a fairly large hierarchy table and I'm trying to put together a query to find the lowest level descendants of the hierarchy. I think there must be some way to use the "Breadth-first" approach that's stated in the MSDN technet sites about SQL Server HierarchyID but i'm not sure how to write the necessary T-SQL to traverse that. I know I can get all the descendants of a parent node like this

SELECT *
FROM AdventureWorks2012.HumanResources.Employee

However, this query returns all levels for that parent's branch. If I just wanted list of employees that were at the lowest level of the branch(es) for this parent node, how would I do this?

We have an issue with the Version Store growing constantly. According to sys.dm_os_performance_counters, "Version Generation rate (KB/s)" is growing, but "Version Cleanup rate (KB/s)" isn't. We use read-committed snapshot isolation

While dbcc opentran and sys.dm_exec_requests don't show any long running transactions, I wrote a query looking at sys.dm_tran_ active_snapshot_ database_transactions. This shows a number of long running transactions but, according to sys.dm_exec_sessions, they are all sleeping. The transactions that are running come and go very quickly, as I would expect.Could these sleeping transactions be responsible for preventing the version store from cleaning up?
