ClickOnce Path Names Are Too Long For SQL Server Express Identifiers
May 11, 2006I'm posting this in the ClickOnce forums as well...
My application doesn't include the .mdf and .ldf files, rather it creates the database the first time the application is run using a script that is included in the build. I want to create the database in the ClickOnce data directory. The problem I'm having is that SQL Server complains when I execute the CREATE DATABASE command as follows:

SQL Server 2012 :: View To Concatenate File / Path Names Back To Root Directory?
Sep 25, 2014We have a hierarchical table of some 2-3k of rows that grows slowly at only 3-5 rows a month, and is never likely to be above 5k, holding file/directory names with an IdParent int value pointing at that items immediate parent or NULL if root
Below is a sample:

iterative code required to achieve the result I am looking for is best handled in the Application layer, but in this case the design brief is that we must get our results back as a View. Speed of execution and code clarity are secondary 'icing on the cake' issues.
I have tried recursive CTE's and XML FOR solutions but without success, and while I feel the latter is probably the best all rounder the searches I have made and the examples I have read do not seem to solve this particular issue.
Even to find the starting point of the search tree (i.e. the .EXE and the .CSV items) was difficult because the final slash is optional in some of the rows (.e. row 4)
The end result of my view on the above data should return:
Id FilePath
5 C:ProgramFilesExcel.EXE
6 D:DataFilesMyDataList.CSV (note the adding of the missing delimiter between DataFiles and MyDataList)
SQL 2012 :: SSIS FTP - Invalid Local Path / Trying To Send Files
Oct 27, 2015I have created a FTP Task which is returning the value, "Error: 0x0 at FTP Task, SFTP Task: Invalid local path."
In my DB Table, the table contains a field for the location of files to be Ftp'd which is: C:/temp/ftp/OB/*
I believe my settings are correct and am curious to know if the above string should work or if I need a different syntax for the local variable.
Long Names
Mar 6, 2001I have created a database which has a table whose name is 128 characters long; this table has a column whose name is 128 characters long. When I issue the command sp_helpconstraint table_name, SQL Server 7 returns the message "string or binary data would be truncated."
Any suggestions?

Find People Names In Long Text
Feb 14, 2007Thank you for taking the time to read this, I need all the advise and help I can get on this ... so please post anything you think would work ... A little confused I am:
Have a database table called "people" with "person name" and "ID" field. My ASP.NET application mainly stores articles in article table. An article's Article text mentions various people's names in different combinations (e.g. John, Smith, John Smith, Smith John, etc)
Is there any way, I could compare the article text stored in article table with people table and get the people from people table along with their ID's who have been mentioned in that article? ... so in an article "i love john smith ... and i think Mr smith has always been helpful", I get John Smith back...
Not too sure being honest, what is the best way of implementing this, looking for the most efficient way, probably using XML? SQL Query or may be ASP.NET's code behind?

Nov 11, 2007I have sql 2005 installations errors in some of prod servers. Can i change the default paths without re-installing. Like in my servers backup files should go to E: drive and data files to F: and log files to H: Drive.

Dec 13, 2006In sql 2000, during the installation an option was given to allow the installer to install to a different drive or path, however in sql 2005, I do not see an option. During the installation it does give you the option of installing via the command line interface, however this would be the last option. If this is the only method of installing sql 2005 for a different data drive path, then please provide the command line to do this. I've used the command line osql/isql to restore db's in sql 2000/msde and it's a pain.

Queries Take A Long Time After Sp2 Installation

We installed service pack2, the day after 2 of our production jobs started taking a long time to complete and causing a ton of blocking.
it went from running in 2 minutes to now taking 3 hours and 29 minutes to run. Can someone help?
Default Installation Path Permission Requirement (Warning)
Apr 18, 2008I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition in parallel with SQL Server 2000. The server is a Dell 2650 with 1 GB RAM running Windows 2000 Server.
The initial part of the setup runs the System Configuration Checker (SCC), which is generating this warning:
Default Installation Path Permission Requirement (Warning)
The server is a member of a domain, but I am logged in as the local administrator. The drive is not compressed. There are no file system problems. I am at a loss as to why this warning is occuring, and do not want to proceed until I figure this out.
(I got this warning on another server as well. That was a test server, so I proceeded. The engine seems to run ok, but SSIS will not load, says a component is missing. Not sure if the two issues are related or not).
Any ideas?

Installation Issue - Access To Path Denied On Service Start

I have a generally well working silent installer of SQL Server sp1, that installs a named of SQL Express then runs some create database scripts on it.
I have a customer for whom this fails. It appears that the SQL server service does not start. When I tell the client (non-computer literate!) to start it manually through Admin Tools>Service, a message appears saying "Access to the path denied", and seemingly doesn't specify the path of the denial.
Has anyone encountered this, or is anyone able to hazard a guess as to the cause of this issue.

Express Edition SP2 - How Long To Wait For Complete Installation?
Mar 19, 2007Just curious if there's a reason why everytime I try to apply the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 from Windows Update that it will sit at "Installing" and appear to do nothing (no hard drive activity, but the MSI and setup processes are chewing a little bit of CPU time). How long should I give this update to complete? I am running a 2-CPU dual-core Xeon 3.0GHz w/ 2GB of RAM setup, so I would have thought it would be completed very quickly. :(

Path To Configuration Files
Jan 22, 2007Can someone tell me why path to the configuration file couldn't be relative to the package? When I try to use relative path (i.e. do not specify full path to the configuration file) package then run from BIDS looks for configuration file in the solution folder instead of package's folder (project folder).
Is there ane way to force package use same folder to search for caonfiguration files?

Changing Path Of Data && Log Files On The Fly
Dec 4, 2004We have a SQL Server setup as a publisher to 15 subscribers. We need to change the path of the data & log files to a new drive (added a new harddisk). We plan to take a cold backup of the database and shift the data & log files to the new drive. Then we just attach the data & log files from the new path.
Will this disturb my existing replication Setup?
Is the the correct procedure for changing the path of the existing data & log files?
What is the appropriate method for shifting data & log file of a live database to a different location (directory/drive) ?

Dynamic Path To Excel Files

Trying to dynamically set the connectionstring property of the excel source.
This is what I enter instead of the hardcoded excel file paths:

I get this error, every time I set the delay validation property of the dataflow tab to true.
Cannot detach from one or more processes.

but what i m looking is, is there any qury or script that will give me only the path of the data,log, index files like this

Sep 1, 2006I have two, probably related, problems:I have a very simple site. It will be used on the local intranet only. I want to use the windows authentication so users do not have to log on. The aspnetdb has been created using the configuration tool. If I use Server Explorer in vs to work on the site on my local machine, I can open aspnetdb, look at its tables, etc. If I use Server Explorer in vs to work on the site on the server, aspnetdb will not open and gives this error message: ..."network path that is not supported for database files"...Other sites on the same server give the same message, but the sites work. I think this is because they can read the file but not write it; but that is a guess. We have tried everything; my head is ready to explode. We are using SQLServerExpress. It resides on the server's C drive (as does our data database). The web site, and hence the aspnetdb are on the F: drive of the same machine. Does SQLServerExpress treat the F: drive as a UNC drive? If so, are we in deep doo doo? I'm at a loss.As far as logging in: If I debug from vs, the login works beautifully both on my local machine and running from the server using vs. Login does not work when accessing the site from iexplorer. Mystified by that one, too. I tried to implement profiles and they crash, too; that led me to consider a write problem.Don't know what to do; any help is appreciated.

I would like to split up various logical parts of script into their own .sql file.How can I have one file .bat, .sql or whatever call each .sql file in the order I specify? Hoping this is easy. This would check the restore plan listed in this window and check if some of the file are missed.Is there any way to reach this with TQSL? I know there is a "restore verify" command, but this will only verify one backup/file and not the complete restore path. I'm looking for a TSQL solution which is able to control that all necessary backup files are still present on the file System and not moved or deleted (e.g through cleanup task).

Dec 30, 2003I want to write a DTS that will import a file every day. The problem is that the files is not named the same thing every day. There is a naming convention (SOMMDDYY.TRN) that it will follow. I want to import this file (which is a fixed width file) each day to a table (The table will be empty each day).
After it is imported, I want to look at the NAME of the file, and pull out the date portion of it. So, if the file is called SO122603.TRN, i want to pull out 122603, and then update my table with that date for every record. So when I am done, I will have a table that represents the file I imported, with one added column. This added column would be a Date/Time that has the date that was in the filename. How do I do this???

Oct 1, 2014I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 2 node cluster with SQL Server 2014 FCI installed. Data files are on a separate Windows Server 2012 R2 file server. Data files share has been permissioned to the SQL Server service and SQL Server Agent service accounts as Full Control. NTFS Permissions are Full Control.
When I try to attach a database

FOR ATTACHI get this error:

Unable to open the physical file "apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAAdventureWorksDW2012_Data.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
If I log into the file server (called APRICOT) and look at the NTFS permissions they all look good. I have also reapplied the NTFS permissions from the root folder down.
EDIT
If I log on to one of the nodes in the cluster as the SQL Server service account and navigate to apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA and copy and paste the data file, it works fine.
EDIT2:
If I log on to the file server and Enable Inheritance at the root level, then Replace all child objects with inheritable permission entries from this object, I get this error:
User Account Control settings on all nodes and the file server are set to Never notify
Flat Files Without Column Names; How To Map Over 250 Columns

i am sure this question must have been anwsered some where, but after a lot of searching i still have not find the anwser.
i have flat files without column headers (267 columns in total).
since i have the file's description i have created a table to house these extracts with the columns in the same order as in the flat files.
additionally, i have an excel containing a list of the column names their data types and length as well as their position on the flat files.
in the old, DTS would map the columns without headers to those columns in the destination table using their order, in which case it works like a breeze for me. but i can not find a way of doing that in SSIS.
i would very much appreciate someone's assistance on this one since i am sure that there must be a better way than manually (and tediously & error prone) to map all those columns.

SQL Server 2012 :: Nested FOR XML Path
Oct 16, 2014I'm trying to reverse engineer an XML output based on a client's need of a very specific format. Besides the issue of getting the XML declaration written in and removing NULLs, I'm having an issue with a three times nested PATH query.
So far the document almost has the correct format, except for the first nested root being returned. Is there any way to prevent this?
