I wanted to remove an extra transaction log file that was no longer required, and ran the following against the database...
DBCC Shrinkfile (DB_Name_log2, Emptyfile);
go
alter database [Db_Name]
remove file DB_Name_log2;
go
I got a successful removal message. But if I go into the properties of the database, and click on files, it still shows up. Why is this and how can I get rid of it?
I setup SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012 with the service accounts in the local Administrator group, but now that I'd like to remove the accounts from this group I'm finding they don't have the appropriate access to the network storage. notes on setting the per-service SID's for SQL (SQL Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Agent Service) so they can read the Data, Log, and TempDB mount points?
I am creating a report query that returns all unreconciled P/O lines. I am near completion but I am unable to find a way to remove the reconciled records.
I have included a script to produce some sample table, data & query.
The recordset dispalys 6 rows. All reconciled Supplier Invoices are duplicated and have transaction codes 40, 50 and reconcile code of 9 (5024, 921689471).
All unreconciled only appear once and have transaction codes 40 and reconcile code of 0 (4835 & 921978016). These are the only records that I want to show.
For a database, we have 4 data files in a particular file group and the file sizes are almost 70 GB each.
Do I come across any performance issues if I create/pre-allocate an additional data file in the same file group so that the existing files don't grow too much?
Why I see absolutely no performance improvement when I spread my primary file group over 8 separate files on 8 separate disks, as opposed to having the primary file group all in one file on one disk.
I have set up 2 identical databases, one spread over 8 disks and one on one disk. Each database has a table called DATA and a column called VALUE. Value is NVARCHAR(200). I have filled each table up in both databases with 20,000 rows.
I then perform a select on each table in each database using CHECKPOINT and DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS to ensure I am reading from disk before each query and the execution times are identical in both databases.
I then ran the same queries against each database using a load testing tool and the batch requests per second on each DB is identical under load.
Surely the database with data spread over 8 disks should be FAR faster than the single file database as you have the combined reading power of 8 disks as opposed to 2??
Also, the same is happening for write speeds. When I create the data on both databases, the time it takes is identical on both.
BOL says it should be faster with multiple disks.
Just FYI this is on an Azure virtual machine and each disk is a locally redundant data disk that I have attached to the virtual machine.
Whether write speeds should increase with multiple disks or just read speeds?
I have some transactions with the same card number that needs to add value amount to its existing balance. For example:
Card Number Balance Amount Issue Date Issue Branch. 4000111122223333 $100.00 10/1/2015 123 <= This is an existing row in Card Number SQL table.
Now, the same card number with additional $50 dollars that I want to add to this card number to make the total to become $150. This additional $50 is from another transaction table. On the contrary, I will have -$20 from the same card number in different transaction that I will need to deduce $150-$20 to become $130. How can I update the card number table with debit/credit transactions to keep the outstanding balance?
I have a query that I'm filtering using Customer ID, CustomerID = '12345', even though I need the query to filter that data, I don't need to see that column in my results. I tried removing it from my Select Distinct group but I'm guessing it needs to be there or the filter won't work(like I said, very green). Is there something that I can add to hide this column?
I need to pull all records from the Item table and then I need to populate the most recent OrderNo and O.DateCreated. I got this far but if there is a part in the item table that does not have an order against it, I do not get a value and my goal is to see any parts that have not been ordered in the last year. Something like this:
SELECT I.PartNumber, I.Description, I.DateCreated FROM item I CROSS APPLY (SELECT TOP 1 O.OrderNo, O.DateCreated FROM Orders O WHERE O.PartNumber = I.PartNumber ORDER BY O.DateCreated DESC) O PartNumberOrderNoO.DateCreated 1A1XXX 1CHXX1 1/8/2014 2A2XXX 1CHXX3 1/20/2014 3A3XXX NULL NULL 1B1XXX 2CHXX1 2/10/2014 2B2XXX 2CHXX3 2/22/2014 3B3XXX NULL NULL
I have a query which contains 12 left outer join. I remove some of the joins that don't have parameters. The result is coming same but usually when we remove joining it should take less exec time but for me it is taking more time. What could be the reason?
I have found a bunch of duplicate records in our housing database that ideally I need to delete.There are two tables that I need to remove data from ih_cml_log_entry and ih_cml_log_notes. There is no unique identifier between the tables for a log entry. So I have had to join on the person_ref, log_seq and the date/time of entry.How do I go about deleting the data - I've used the script below to identify what I need to delete -
SELECT * FROM ( select cml.person_ref, cml.open_date + open_time as 'datetime',cml.open_user,cml.log_type ,ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY cml.person_ref, cml.open_date + cml.open_time,cml.open_user,cml.log_type ORDER BY (SELECT 0)) AS RowNo ,n.note FROM ih_cml_log_entry cml
I usually do this through Access so I'm not too familiar with the string functions in SQL. My question is, how do you remove characters from the middle of a string?
Ex: String value is 10 characters long. The string value is X000001250. The end result should look like, X1250.
I've tried mixing/matching multiple string functions with no success. The only solution I have come up with removes ALL of the zeros, including the tailing zero. The goal is to only remove the consecutive zeroes in the middle of the string.
I have a varchar field which contains some Greek characters (α, β, γ, etc...) among the regular Latin characters. I need to replace these characters with a word (alpha, beta, gamma etc...). When I try to do this, I find that it is also replacing some of the Latin characters.
I have a sql server 2012 server and I need to prevent the users from creating new schemas by mistake. Is there any way to revoke that permission alone but still letting the user to create their own objects in dbo (yes I know that shouldn't be in dbo but that is another issue).
I've inherited a database from a SQL7 system, and converted it to SQL2000. It has a secondary data file (.ndf) and a secondary log file. Because the server configurations are different it's no longer necessary to have the secondary files. How to I merge the secondary file data into the primary files and then delete the secondary files?
We have a multi-site AG and are demoting one of the remote sites out of the AG. In doing so, we've discovered that no logic exists to remove an IP address from the listener.
It seems that the ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP MODIFY LISTENER logic lacks functionality other than ADD. [URL] ....
I'm afraid to just remove the IP address from the cluster object as that IP is also stored in the HADR systables.
select * from sys.availability_group_listener_ip_addresses select * from sys.availability_group_listeners
I am parsing a directory of flat files and looping through it with a foreach loop. Some of the files have lines that contain characters that I would like to remove. In fact, it would be good if I could remove the entire line. Is there a way to do this with a Script Task or some other way.
I have a file I'm pulling from another type of database into an Excel spreadsheet and then using my dtsx package to import the spreadsheet into my SQL database. The problem I'm having is that one of the fields coming out of the database to the spreadsheet has the thousands seperator in the field that I want to use as a numeric field without the ",". Right now I have a macro that I run on the spreadsheet to reset the field to straight numbers without commas before importing it, but would like to configure my Integration package to do it automatically.
I have a large (420GB) database that has never had data archived off before. I taken a backup to a test server and run a script supplied by the product vendor which has removed a large ammount of old data no longer required.
I have checked within enterprise manager that this data has now gone, however the actual file itself has not shrunk in size. Is there a further step I need to take to get back the space.
Hi All,I am trying to delete rows from a table using a SQL statement similarto this:DELETE FROM TableA where ID1 IN(Select ID1 From TableB where ID2>= @min and ID2<=@max)Basically I want to delete all rows from TableA that have an ID in arange in TableB. This is done in a stored proc.When I look at the execution plan, it is using the indexes as I wouldhope for. The problem is that it is doing a sort which accounts for73% of the cost. I do not need to sort the results. I don't care whatorder they are deleted in.How can I prevent the sort from occuring? I need this delete to occuras fast as possible.Thanks In Advance
Hi all, I have a stored procedure that generates the following SQL WHERE clause UserName LIKE 'Adi234%' AND Fname LIKE 'David%' AND LName LIKE 'Justin%' AND It is good except that it i can not remove the last AND which is not neccessary at the end of the clause. I want to remove the last AND that come up at the end, my code places AND after each data field(UserName, Fname, Lname) .
I've created an asp.net page that takes the content of text boxes and writes them to a sql table.
The problem is that when I examine the resulting data in the SQL database, I find that the fields written to have had padding added (up to the maximum size of the fields).
I was under the impression that fields of type NVARCHAR did not store padding (only the no of characters being stored).
I've checked it's not the text boxes on the aspx page by explicitly posting values instead of the boxes content and the same thing happens.
Help
example of function i'm using to post data:
Function AddNews(ByVal Category As String, ByVal ApplicRole As String, ByVal NewsType As String, ByVal Description As String, ByVal News As String, ByVal Hyperlink As String, ByVal Email As String, ByVal BirthDate As Date, ByVal KillDate As Date, ByVal Parent As String) As Integer Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("AuthentConnection") Dim dbConnection As System.Data.IDbConnection = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(connectionString) Dim queryString As String = "INSERT INTO [News]([Category],[ApplicRole],[NewsType],[Description],[News],[Hyperlink],[Email],[BirthDate],[KillDate],[Parent]) VALUES (@Category,@ApplicRole,@NewsType,@Description,@News,@Hyperlink,@Email,@BirthDate,@KillDate,@Parent)" Dim dbCommand As System.Data.IDbCommand = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand
I have lot of SQL logins which do not have access to any databases . They do not show any database access when i check their properties . My server is SQL 7.0 with SP 3 .
I want to clean up those logins with the help of script instead of deleting every login manually which is time consuming as i have to check the database access before deleting the login.
Is there any where script available or any other way to delete these unnecessary logins ? Also will it be a problem on the SQL Server if i delete those logins at one command ?
Here is a simplified version of my problem: I am inserting data into a table using a stored procedure. The table has an identity column that increments with each insert. When I use erroneous data in the other fields the insert fails….no surprises there! But when the next insert occurs with valid data I find that my identity field has increased even with those inserts that failed, so my sequence has jumped a few numbers. How do I get the identity inserts to roll back if the rest of the data in a row doesn’t insert successfully? Marcha x
Hello, I have a report that is based on a dynamic column. The column is specified by the user, and the column tyep may be text, datetime, or bigint. The user specifies the column name, and there is also a parameter that specifies the type. I allow my users to format the date via passing in a date format string, so my code looks something like:
=Switch
(
Parameters!primarycolumntype.Value = "text",
Fields(Parameters!primaryitemcolumn.Value).Value,
Parameters!primarycolumntype.Value = "date",
[DO DATE FUNCTIONS HERE, e.g. Year(Fields(Parameters!primaryitemcolumn.Value).Value)],
Parameters!primarycolumntype.Value = "numeric",
Fields(Parameters!primaryitemcolumn.Value).Value
)
The trouble I am running into is that I am getting invalid date conversion errors whenever a text value is being supplied - in other words, the code in the "DO DATE FUNCTIONS HERE" is being executed regardless of whether my primary column type parameter is text OR date. It would appear that all conversion fuctions are calculated at runtime prior to running other logic. If so, this is a bad thing for me, as that means I cannot mix data types in the same report and figure it out all dynamically. Is this true? I had always thought that the date code (in the example above, the call to Year()) would not be executed unless that statement in the switch statement was true. I've had the same luck with If statements, and Choose statements, and I've even tried using custom code.
I think my whole problem relates to a misunderstanding of how the functions are processed. Can anyone shed some light?
I have created a publication from SQL Server 7.0 and subscribed the publication it to one of the SQL 2000 server std. edition .
Now there are some entries in the subscription list at the subscriber which need to be deleted . The list shows the name of the publication , the database name and the date .
I wanted to know hoe can we delete those unwanted entries. If i select the entry and right click on it , there is no delete option .
Are those entries to be deleted from one of the tables at the subscriber or the publisher ? If yes, then what is the name of the table ?
