SQL 2012 :: Retain Leading Zeros While Exporting SSRS Report To Excel

Jan 28, 2015

I have a query in a SSRSreport that returns a value that looks like '012345'. The value looks fine on the report preview screen.

When the report is exported to excel, that value is displayed in a cell as '012345'. When I click out of the field, excel is dropping the leading zero and converting the value in the field to 12345.

Why is this happening and i have converted the value as string as well using expression.

Need To Retain Leading Zeros

Jan 25, 2008

I have an SSIS routine which uses a simple SQL select statement from a SQL Server 2005 database and then goes to a Flat File destination. The field (dischstatuscode) is a nvarchar(50) and it may contain data with leading zeros.

Code Snippet
Select DischStatusCode
from dbo.pm

...which returns:
01
23
37
05
04
41

When I open up the csv file produced by the SSIS routine, I see the following:
1
23
37
5
4
41

How can I have it retain leading zeros?

Maintain Leading Zeros When Exporting To .csv Using SQL Server 2000 DTS

Jan 13, 2008

I am trying to export the result of a select into a .csv file using SQL Server 2000 DTS. The data for varchar fields has leading zeroes in the database, which is very much required in the csv file.

But, the .csv file trims the leading zeroes. How do we force to maintain the same data as in source?

I had used Text File Destination Connection as the destination, with the below options
File Extension: .csv
File Format: Delimited
File Type: ANSI
Text Qualifier: Double Quotes ("")
Row Delimiter: {CR}{LF}
Column Delimiter: comma

Source Data: 0123
Target Data (Requirement): 0123

The data in .csv: 123 (This is the issue)

When I open this file in a Text Editor, I do see the data in double quotes..."0123".

Thanks in advance.

SSRS - Problem When Exporting Report To Excel With More Than 60K Rows

Aug 1, 2007

We are facing one problem while exporting the SSRS (SQL Server 2005 SP2 installed on win2K3) Report to Excel format, problem is when we export report having more than 50K rows to Excel format SSRS fails to export because it€™s a limitation of Excel that a Sheet can€™t contain more than 50K rows. This issue is resolved in Office 2007 but SSRS its own libraries to export, is there any way we can make SSRS to use office 2007 libraries to export? Has anybody faced the similar issues? would appreciate if you can give solution for this problem or forward any link which discusses the same.

Retain Leading 0 In Datetime Field

Apr 28, 2008

I searched the forums for 'Retain leading 0 in datetime field' and received 0 hits.

I have a client who needs me to export SQL data as a txt file. All of the varchar fields are working well. I am having a problem with the datetime field. In my SQL table, I have a datetime field named 'Date_Acquired'. I enter the date as 04/28/2008 but it shows up in the table as 4/28/2008 and exports to text as 4/28/2008. Is there an easy way within my export Stored Procedure to reformat the datetime field to retain the leading zero? I have explored the CAST and CONVERT statements but have been unsuccessful so far.

Can anyone help?

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 - Groups In Report Manager Not Present When Exported To Excel

Mar 2, 2015

I have a report in SSRS2012. It was copied from SSRS2005 quite recently, as we have upgraded. The SQL developer said that it didn't need any code changes, as he had some kind of tool to test code problems between the two versions. The report has a table, with 5 row groups, and one detail row. The table is setup as follows:

Name             Sales          Costs       Profit

Group1
   Group2
      Group3
         Group4
            Group5
               DetailsRow

When I run this report using the Report Manager website from SSRS2005, and then export to Excel 2013, I get the 6 row groups in Excel, no problem whatsoever. I can drill into each group in Excel, using the group drilldown column on the left hand side. This works the same as the Report Manager website.

If I run the exact same report from the Report Manager website in SSRS2012, the Report Manager result is the same as SSRS2005 - all the row groups are present, and the drilldown works fine. However, the export to Excel has issues with the groups. There are only 3 row groups showing in Excel, along with a column group added for no apparent reason.

Drilling into each group shows inconsistent details, and there is no apparent logic as to what is shown within each group. I should also mention, that this issue with groups is seen on all my reports which have groups, not just this report.

I tried using "=Format(Fields!DirID.Value.ToString)" with different variations to no avail.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

So the first column should have zeros padded to the front to make 6 numbers, the second column should be 3 numbers long with zeros in front. So when added together it is 9 numbers long.

Auto-incrementing With Leading Zeros

Hi All,
I need to set up a kind of identity insert that gives an output in the format: 00001, 00002, 00003 etc. Is there a formatting option for this sort of output using normal identity insert features or do I need to write a function to insert these values (perhaps as text) each time a new record is created?
Sorry if this is really simple but it's only my 4th day in this job!
