When installing SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services, everything installs except OWC11 and Reporting Services. The error is "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE111033SETUP.CHM." But this is just saying to enter the product key for MS Office.
I'm trying to make some reports using the sql 2005 reporting services addin for Visual Web Developer Express 2005. I download the add-in here. So far it installed "successfully". The problem i have is when i try to add a datasource to the report at "Report > Data Sources... " it gives me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified."
Another Error it gives is that when I try to drag a DataSet field from the Website Data Sources toolbox tab the visual web developer crashes :/.
An observation that I don't know if this is ok is when I create a new Data Source it creates an App_Code folder inside where my report is /Reports/ and there it saves the DataSet. Just an observation...
This is my development enviorment:
Laptop:
Windows Vista Home Premium (Up to date) Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 with Service Pack 1 Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
Server:
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 IIS 6.0 ASP.NET 2.0 Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Reporting Services for SQL Server 2005 Express
I have downloaded the freeware SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for learning SQL Server. Now I want to get familiar with the BIDS and the reporting services. I want to know whether Express Edition supports these tools. If not then what do i need to have to get the same started?? I have a pc running on Vista.
Help from anyone will be greatly appreciated as I have been looking at the forums for quite a while and i am totally confused in this respect. What is the most uncomplicated way to solve this problem??
Hi, I had previously installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition (and later, SQl Server Management studio express). Recently, I wanted to try out 'Reporting services' and downloaded 'SQL server 2005 express Toolkit'. After installation, I have a new program group 'Visual studio 2005' . I started that with 'New Report Project'. I tried to attach an existing database (to be precise, in 'connection string' part) , but it is giving error saying
'An error has occured while establishing connection to Server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005 (???) ,..... may be caused the fact that under default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections '
I tried my existing SQL Server 2005 express edition Surface Area Configuration and it is configured for accepting remote connection using both TCP/IP & named pipes.
Now, I have following doubts: 1. Do I have to download & install SQL Server 2005 Express edition wiht Advanced options, if I wish to use Reporting services or I can use the existing SS2005EE along with Toolkit services? 2. If answer is yes to above question, how do I attach a database?
If you can throw some light on above, I shall be very grateful to you.
For some reason, the Reporting Services Configuration Tool does not install with the Express Edition of Sql Server 2005 (although I can generate reports in preview mode of the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio, which does install).
Anyone know how I can get this Reporting Services Configuration Tool to install, or is there a workaround to get the RS Server setup on our network computer?
Hi, I'm wondering if I can use SQL 2005 Reporting Services with SQL Server 2000, SQL Express or MSDE, or I need to install SQL Server 2005 in order to use Reporting Services 2005? Thank you in advance.
I have problem during first configuration of Reporting Services from MS SQL 2005 Server Express with Advanced Services SP2. The error occurs when configuring virtual directory (Reporting Services Configuration Manager -> Report Server Virtual Directory). When I try to create new virtual directory I can see following messages:
Number of errors: 0 Create Virtual Directory
The virtual directory was created and assigned. Changing Secure Connection Level
After last message Windows reports that SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close (and I can send report to Microsoft).
IIS shows that virtual directory under default web site was created.
My environment: MS SQL Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00 Windows XP Proffessional SP2 IIS 5.1 all components are fresh new installations. The only additional configuration I've made was adding IWAM_<hostname> as WebServiceAccount, all other configuration is default.
Has i install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services but why that Report Manager it was not installed. To me will not address under the reference http: // localhost/reports$SQLExpress since such catalogue is not present in IIS. In what there can be a problem?

When the dialog box appeared indicating file couldn't found, there was no option to look elsewhere for it the only option was retry or cancel which after 5 or 6 retries I cancelled. Everything else appears to have installed correctly for this instance.
Also earlier attempts to install have left services for named instances that I cannot install to such as SQLEXPRESS , SQLEXPRESS1 and CURRIEREXPRESS, I long ago had a beta version installed and have attempted numerous methods to completely wipe these out using the uninstallbetas tool from Microsoft as well as a number of suggestions from some posts.
Please help - The most significant reason I'm installing this is to practice creating SQL Reporting Service reports
I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.
One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:
Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets? Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?
Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.
I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified. Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script) at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'? Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?
I've installed SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE and SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE. Was able to reattached my own DB's and everything seems to be working fine, but....
I used reporting services extensively in SQL 2000 and would love to play with the express version. My problem is, I don't know how to access. I tried opening ReportBuilder.exe but get an error indicating "Report Builder and Report Models are not supported in this version of Reporting Services"...
I have XP Pro and there is a Reports and ReportServer under the default web sites. Do you have to have Visual Studio to utilize?
Ok, here's the deal. I'm just learning sql express and I'm trying to get my reporting services worked out. I have everything installed and I have managed to connect to the report server at http://<computername>/Reports my problem is I can only connect to this page when I am at the machine where the sql database, reporting database, etc... I cannot log on to this site from any other computer no my network? Does any one know why ? Thanks!!!
We get reporting services in SQL Express. Excellent!
Now, how do I save/deploy a report. Can we set up a report server locally. I feel a bit cheeky seeing as how this is all free, but where are we supposed to store the reports we create in the (free! thanks!) Business intelligence tool.
Hi, I have just install SQL 2005 SP2 and trying to get Window SharePoint Services V3 integrated with SQL 2005 SP2 reporting services. In SharePoint Central Administration, I select the Reporting Services Integration page and have setup the Report Server Web Service URL and Authentication Mode. I then goto Grant database access, specify the SQL server name, get promted for a username and password that has access SQL Reportserver and get the following error "The group name could not be found" Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
Hi. I'm trying to get full-text search working on my SQL 2005 Express with Advanced Services and am having problems. I thought that I installed it correctly, and when I look in the services running, I see it SQL Server Fulltext Search(MSSQLSERVER). Also note that I have SQL Server 2005 Standard installed on this same laptop. I don't know if that Full text Search applies to the Standard, Express or both.
What I do see is that if I connect to the database engine named <mylaptop>, I can see the version is 9.0.1399 and I can see the check box to enable full-text indexing in a particular databases properties. When I run SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled'), I get a 1.
However, when I connect to the engine name <mylaptop>SQLExpress, I se the version is 9.0.3042, and I don't see the same check-box to enable full-text indexing. When I run SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled'), I get a 0.
I've never tried this before so I know I'm probably missing something basic. But, I have searched quite a bit and not found my answer. So, I'm looking to you for help.
I'm trying to create reports in RS2005 using AS2000 as my data source. I understand that if I use RS2005 on AS2000, I wont be able to enjoy the OLAP based parameters as in using AS2005. Does anyone know an easy way to easily use Parameters in RS2005 while still using AS2000?
The SQL Server Express can be downloaded with Advanced Services and thereby Reporting Services are included. I wonder if this is the same Reporting Services as in SQL Server 2005 Standard? I have heard something that it is a stripped version that is included in the Express download. Is it so? And if so, what are the differences?
I am trying to install sql express advanced services. I already have sql installed on one machine and removed it from another machine completely. When installing on both machines I only get two main components when the list comes up. I have uncheck (or checked) to show all components. There is no "Reporting Services" listed. I am downloading the sqlexpress_adv.exe file from microsoft. Please, how do you install the reporting services? It is not in the list of components to install!!!
I have installed SQL Server Express with Reporting Services in a default instance and let the installer configure reporting services using the standard configuration. The issue is that I am unable to authenticate with the web based Report Manager application when browsing http://localhost/reports.
It prompts me for a user name and password which I supply my windows credentials but it will not accept them. I am running Windows XP SP2 fully patched but it is not on a domain. Is this an issue with Windows Authentication?
I attempted to enable anonymous access to the report manager. I get past the login except report manager gives an error saying the report server is not responding. I have checked the sql reporting services configuration tool and it is telling me that the server is in fact running.
Another forum article told me to check the web.config to ensure indentity impersonate is set to true. I checked the report manager web.config file and this setting is there.
We are trying to make use of reporting services in our web application. We have however run into some problems.
The SQL Server Express 2005 edition is not installed on the development web server. When we try to access a report throught the ReportViewer we get an Access Denied message? After reading up a bit we have created a class which implements the IReportServerConnection interface. This however lead to a new problem which we have as of yet not found a solution for in that it causes a new error. "Custom Security Extensions is not Supported in the Edition of Reporting Services". Does any one have a solution/workaround for this problem.
i have a small problem with the data sources in the reporting services, maybe you can clarify the situation... I have a MS CRM 3 solution with the reporting services 2005 installed. From an other vendor we have a arcplan solution on the 2000 analysis services. I would like to get access from the 2005 reporting services to the 2000 cube. Is this possible? Ive read that the SSMS cant connect to the 2000 cubes. Can i connect from the reporting services??
Hi All! I'm a newbie to SQL & have a question about Reporting Services. I have already installed SQL Express & now want to install Reporting Services. Is there a way to install just this feature or do I need to do a complete re-install? Thanks!
I work for an ISV, and some of our customers use SQL Server, others use SQL Server Express. I need to develop some reports, so I was happy to read that SQL Express with Advanced Services would have some (limited?) Reporting Services available. Unfortunately, the sign-up period to beta test appears to be over, and so I am left wondering exactly what functions will be available. Is there anyone out there who has played around with the beta version reporting functions?
From reading the licensing considerations page [1], my understanding is that if my environment is 2 servers - an IIS Server and a separate SQL Server Std - I will need a 2nd license of SQL Server to run Reporting Services on my IIS Server? Is this correct? If so, would a license of SQL Server Express Edition w/Advanced Services satisfy the second license requirement, or would I need a license to match the database server?
Essentially, what is the recommended guidance for Reporting Services and Web Applications? It's a known best practice that, for performance, run SQL Server on a dedicated machine separate from IIS. Is it recommended that the database server also serve the reports?
If i have been using sql server 2005 express for developing my application and i decide to upgrade to sql server 2005 express with advanced services while still working on the same application, what will happen to my application's database. Can i be able to continue with my work with out any major regrets.
I am running SQL Express Advanced addition on an XP pro box. The install went cleanly, and I have no problems creating and publishing reports that use a SQL server data source, however when I try and publish a report that uses an oracle data source I get the following error.
An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'ORACLE' that is not registered for this report server.
The report works fine withing the preview pain of Visual Studio, and it publishes fine within SQL 2005 standard edition.
Can someone please tell me how to register the data extension for ORACLE in SQL Express.
I installed the SQL Server Express Advances w/ Reporting Services, but it doesn't appear to be working. When I bring the URL up in my web browser all I get is this:
transam/ReportServer$SQLExpress - /
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.2047.00
Any tips on where to begin looking for what is wrong?
