SQL Express Minimum Requirements Warning On Windows 2000 Professional???
Apr 1, 2006
The computers here at work run Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4. Everything checks out with the minimum requirements at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/sqlreadme/#_3462_setup_issues_238p
However, one of the "Reports" from the installation says the machine does not meet the minimum requirements, but provides no details. It installs and I have Admin rights on this machine, but I can't even connect to the Northwind database that I downloaded.
Is this due to our logging process where the "system" is actually in another country? (ie, "CITYNAME/Username"
Hello,I received the error message below when i'm trying to install SQLServer 2000 standard edition into a Windows 2000 Professionaleworkstation.Error :Microsoft SQL server 2000 Standard Edition server components is notsupported on this operating system. Only client components will beavailable for installation.Any request modification ?Best regards,Thanks
Currently, I have the client side of SQL Server 6.5 (Enteprise Manager, Security Manager, Books Online, etc.) installed and running under Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. When I attempt to install the same package under Windows 2000 Professional I get the following message - This program does not run correctly on this version of windows. To continue, click Run Program. Has anyone sucessfully installed this under Windows 2000 Professional? Are there any patches or service packs to apply? Thanks.
This is my first time posting, so be gentle as I'm not exactly sure what the protocol here is regarding posting errors.
I'm encountering an issue with an installation of SQL 2005 Express (SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE) on a Windows 2000 Professional SP4 machine (Intel P4 1.8 Ghz). The following error is what I receive:
Setup.exe - Entry point not found:
The procedure entry point _create_local could not be located in the dynamic link library mscvr80.dll
< OK >
The following is what I see in the error log (C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFiles):

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'll be monitoring this thread closely. Searches of my error show that other people have received it as well, although no resolution has ever been forthcoming. Thanks in advance.
Just curious if anyone out there has had success running a Distributed Transaction on Windows 2000 Professional SP4 lately?
I have come to the conclusion that is is virutally impossible. I am running MSDE on a Win2k Pro machine and trying to run a distributed transaction via linked server and am getting the
"The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction."
error. Yes I have been scouring the web looking for answers and have implemented pretty much everything I have run accross... and Yes the MSDTC service is started on both machines... BTW: If I run the procedure on XP it works great!!!
I am wondering if anyone even uses Win2k Pro anymore let alone trying to run a distributed tarnsaction on the darn thing.
If anyone out there has it running let me know I would love to chat with you for a minute or two.
I try to install MSDE as a new instance (SQL2) on my computer with Windows 2000 Professional, but a problem occurs and instalaltion does not complete successfully. I am an administrator of the computer. The application log contains the following errors descriptions: "The SYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesMSSQL$SQL2Perfo rmance key could not be opened or accessed in order to install counter strings. The Win32 status returned by the call is in the Record Data as DWORD 0. " and "Installing the performance counter strings for MSSQL$SQL2 failed. The Error code is DWORD 0 of the Record Data. "
I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.
I have installed:
IE 6.0 sp1
IIS as a part of Win 2000 Professional Edition SP4
I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET 2.0
.NET Framework 2.0
SQL Server Native Client
SQL Server Setup support files
PC includes:
Pentium III 800 MHz
512 MB memory
HardDrive C: 5.92 GB (1.37 GB free)
HardDrive D: 13.1 GB (9.11 GB free)
I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk 3097.1) I have tried to complete an uninstall before each attempt.
I have a VB.NET program which creates a Job (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Agent.Job) and schedules it, to load and run a existing SSIS package, which is on a different server.
I'm using the following assemblies for this purpose.
To make this application run in my application server, do i have to install any SQL server components or SSIS rumtime components? Or Is it enough if i copy only the above mentioned dlls to my applications bin directory, in my application?
Note: I have the enterprise edition of SQL Server 2005 installed on my database server.
I installed SQL Express (SQLEXPR32.EXE, not with advance services) and choose to install all components, and got the following message (the machine is Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz CPU, 512MB Ram, 100 gig drive) Minimum hardware requirement (warning) T he current system does not meet the recommended hardware requirements for this sql server release. For detailed hardware and software requirements, see the readme file or SQL Server Books Online. I looked at the SQL Books Online, and don€™t see where this system does not meet recommended hardware requirements. Any ideas what is going on? It seems to work ok. Thanks, Bob
This doesn't make any sense. I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 on SBS 2003 with Service Pack 1. According to Windows Update, there is nothing left for me to install. However, I am getting this error (while installing SQL Server Express and the Developer Edition):
"Your operating system does not meet Service Pack level requirements for this SQL Server release. Install the Service Pack from the Microsoft Download Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50380, and then run SQL Server setup again."
When I go to the link, there is nothing there to download (it takes me to the main Microsoft download page). I meet all the requirements that I have found. What gives?

We have a couple XP machines with only 256Mb of RAM and have Windows 2000 client tools installed. What are the minimum hardware requirements for SQL 2005 (Workstation) on an XP desktop?
My boss thinks since we have been blissfully ignorant and running fine with 256Mb then their is no need to upgrade memory in these machines.
Can you explain please why Extended SP does not work under Vista ?

Excel 2007 Documents Not Displayed in Windows XP Professional sp2 Start Menu's Recent Documents List:
Dear Microsoft Support: I can't figure out how to get recently used Excel 2007 (new file formats) documents to show up in the Windows XP Professional (sp2) Start Menu's Recent Documents List. I checked the Internet, the knowledgebase, many parts of the MS web site, etc. for an answer but can't find one. Are Excel 2007 documents supposed to show up in the XP Start Menu's Recent Document List? Is this a bug or do I have to do some sort of configuration to make it do so? If it's a bug, when will a fix be available?
Are these new Excel 2007 files filtered out like EXE files are which will not appear in the Recent Document List?
The Excel 2007 file types are listed in the Registry.

I'm facing a problem while installing the SQL Server 2005 Express on Windows 2000 Pro with SP4.
After finishing the downloading from Microsoft I start the installation and things seems to go ok but during Extracting Files step a message appears "SQL Server Setup unexpectedly failed. For more information, review the setup summary log file in %Program Files%Microsoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGSummary.txt" and it terminates the installation.
I located the log file and open it but can't understand the problem..I copy the text and paste it here for anyone who can understand it.Please, it is very importand for me to work with SQL Server for my project. Any advice or information or anything else???
Thank you all,

We have a win2003 server box that is using MS-SQL 2000. We have a 20user license on this server at the present time. We have a need toallow up to 5 simultaneous additional users access to a subset of thisdata from our IIS server. How does this affect my current SQL ServerLicense? We can restrict access via connection pooling, etc. Can weuse a 30 user license or must we go to a CPU license? Does anyoneknow where to find Microsoft licensing information on this?
Hi, I am trying to open or create a sqlexpress database within Visual Studio 2005 Professional in the App_Data folder. If I attempt either method, I get the following dialog box:Required Components MissingConnections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=49251 The link above just takes you to the download page for Sql Server Express 2005. I have both SQL Server 2005 Developer and SQL Server 2005 Expression instances running. The existing database will work properly in my web application, however I cannot access it through Visual Studio. As background, I did have a problem connecting to the database via the web application, receiving a "Failed to generate a User Instance of SQL Server" error. But I was able to fix that by renaming my SQLEXPRESS folder in C:Documents and SettingsuserLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server Data. When the web page ran, it created another SQLEXPRESS folder. However, I cannot figure out why I am having the other issue. Thanks in advancePatrick
Hello. I have a version of SQL Express with Advanced services. I created a report and all seems well in Report Manager on my computer. Now it's time to deploy my report to some customers.
1. Can I create an application in Visual Studios Express to view my report? I've read things online that seem contradictory to me and I'm hoping you can clarify this.
2. On a customer machine, if they have a .net application that can render my report, will they have to install reporting services on their computer or can the .rdl file run independently of reporting services if plugged into a .net viewer component? If it was called from a .net application, then Report Server and Report Manager aren't really needed are they? I have a situation where we don't want to use IIS on customer computers if we don't need to. Since the reports will not be adhoc, we're hoping to avoid needing to install Reporting Services on customer computers.
I have insured that I have the x86 version downloaded of both the ver. 2.0 .net foundation. I have insured that I meet the min. requirements of all software requirements. For the Std. edition my hardware reports I exceed the minimum requirements. For the Adv. edition my hardware meets the min. mem. requirements.
I proceed with the Adv. installation, I find a warning during the preamable or the installation support tools regarding insufficient hardware. I then back out of installation, I remove the /program files/ms sql folder and verify registry is cleared.
I proceed to install the std. edition, I find the same warning as above. I suspect I have an error in the hardware profile reporting tool. I then search for a ms analysis tool equivalent to the one used by SQL 2k5 express to no avail.
As this installation is a requirement for classes I find myself a little frustrated; however, expert assistance would be most welcome. Note: In either case of the above installations I can proceed with the installation; however, the client fails. This issue does not appear resolveable with normal user access tools, suggestions for a Remedy in the next few hours will be most welcome. Class starts tomorrow.

Hi Friends, I have a question. At my home computer i downloaded and installed VWD. As usual it also installed Sqlexpress as part of the installation(i checked the option). Later on i downloaded Management studio separately so i am fine with my home computer as every thing is free. But at work we decided to develop application using VS 2005 and Sqlserver 2005. So we bought and installed VS2005 professional edition at work and it also installed Sqlexpress during the installation as a defualt desktop engine. I am fine with that too. But i am not understing where do i get the Management studio? Is it some thing i could get it off the web for free or what? I am not sure we would have an option while installing the VS 2005 professional that also does install management studio and we need to check that option. I am not sure if we could get the management studion off the web for free and and evelop applications.
If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.

I have been trying to drill down to the cause for this event log message: "The configuration of the AdminConnectionTCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid." It is reported from the SQLBrowser service as a warning when the service starts. I have tried starting SQLBrowser.exe with -c flag, but the output reveals no errors. I have seen this error on three computers. Two are running SQL 2000, 2005 and Express. One was only running Express, but still this message. I then looked into the log for the SQL Express server itself. It shows this message on startup: "Dedicated administrator connection support was not started because it is not available on this edition of SQL Server. This is an informational message only. No user action is required." Now, it appears to me that these two messages may relate to the same "error" (or rather behaviour by design). So, can anyone confirm that the warning in the event log from the SQL Browser service occurs becuase of that the SQL Express edition doesn't allow any "AdminConnection", but the SQL Browser service isn't aware of that SQL Express edition shouldn't support that, and reports it as a warning (implying that we can't do much about this warning)?
Hi all,I have a Windows 2003 server, which is also a terminal server forapplication, with sql 2000 installed. My company has developed anapplication that uses SQL 2000 as its database. The application is aclient/server one. In each client computer there's a link to theapplication on the server. There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. The log of the application shows thefollowing error:connection error -2147467259. Cannot open database requested in login'database name'. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success. By the way W95clients have no problem accessing shared folder on the Windows 2003server.Any idea?ThanksMarino
