Is there any way in which I could distinguish a group of Database users from the other users. Say for e.g. store the Database users hierarchically, etc. Adding a Prefix/Suffix to the user name as a distinguish-er will not work in my case. I want to restrict the deletion of these Database users. Even the login with sysadmin or serveradmin rights should not be able to DROP those Database users.
Hi, i have a data base in SQL 2005 and i it has many tables with confidencial information Like Social Security numbers, Credit card Numbers, etc. And i would like to encrypt this information or make something to make this info invisible to any hacker, or any person that logs on the server.
Here are the limitations:
1 - I cant make any changes in the front end, so if i encrypt the data, I have to make all the modifications in the database, and if the front end needs some encrypted information, the database should dencrypt it.
If a user is a local admin of the box they can gain full access to the database via integrated security. They can create their own database and attach .MDF How can i secure the .MDF so that no one can gain access to it?

SQL Server 2000 DTS Package Need to access a secure website which displays a list of available files for download. Firstly need to read that page to determine the most recent file. There is a view link to the file which uses java script to post back information for file download.
Problem: Script Task using Third Party DLL for Secure FTP mainly "Eldos" is not able to load dll ,when deployed on integration server.
Resolution: Usually i Follow and it works even : Copy and Paste Dll in below location depending on Server Configuration.

I'm having some problems with SQL Server 2005. I installed the Personal Starter kit but don't have the Express edition installed so I attached the .mdf file to SQL Server 2005. That's ok and I also changed the connection string to integrated security.<add name="Personal" connectionString="Data Source=MyTestServer;Initial Catalog=Personal;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>I tried setting the security settings in the Management studio under Security | Logins | BUILTINAdministrators where I select the User mapping and check the checkbox before the Personal.mdf file. But this doesn't seem to do the trick. How can I set the correct security settings?
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software? This is my first SSIS package and the first for my employer. Under DTS we run some overnight tasks that bin with a .Net console application that downloads data. Several of these run in parallel.
Looked to me that the Execute Process Task was a good fit for the requirements. When I executed the step, the program did begin to execute in that a DOS window opened. But when, I clicked the run button on the warning dialog, the task step ended.
Questions: 1.- How to tell the Execute Process Task not to open the Security Warning dialog? 2.- Have you any suggestions about my approach?
I have a SQL job that calls a command file that executes a vbscript. I am getting "Open File - Security Warning" whenever the command file calls the vbs as it goes through a loop. Is there a way to suppress the warning dialog box?
Do we have any way of hiding SDF file from end-user? When we are installing our application on user's machine, we have to keep SDF file somewhere but anyone who knows about SDF file can open that file in management studio and that exposes our database structure. Is there a workaround for this ? How can we prevent visibility of SDF file ?
We have a situation where we need to restrict access to a sql server data file. That is, to prevent users viewing any tables, stored procedures, etc, in sql server or another tool. We are providing a our database as part of an application install to a customer's site which will run isolated on the customers network. However the application will have sql server logins and the system must still be able to execute stored procedures.
The setup unfortunately cannot be changed and we are trying to think of best implementations for this. Our customers are also working with competitors so we are very conscious about exposing our data structures to anyone outside of our company, hence trying to restrict access. If deployed to a sql instance on the customer site then they will have database administrator accounts on the server.
I make a backup file from my database and than I opened it in notepad.
I find some data that I can't reach with query. I searched for this data in every varchar and text column but I don't find that.I scripted all database with data but still not find.
This database is very old and this unavailable data is from 2000. Now the database run on sql 2012 server.
I want to remove this data from the database. I tried to shrink the database or allocate the free space to 0% but nothing happened, the data is still there in the backup and the mdf file too.
Event 17204, FCB::Open failed: Could not open file F:MSSQLDatafilename.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 5(Access is denied.).When I look at the file permissions of filename.mdf, there is no MSSQLSERVER group permissions listed nor can I add it. I have tried to add MSSQLSERVER and NT SERVICEMS SQL $MSSQLSERVER but neither exist. There is also a ReportServer.mdf in the same folder with MSSQLSERVER permissions!Did I somehow delete this group? What can I do to restore this permission?
I am trying to convert a certificate that was exported from our database server to be used by SQL Server for database encryption. When I run the PVKConverter, not Private Key File (PVK) is generated. The certificate has Server and Client Authentication as the purposes of the certificate.
What purpose or purposes does the certificate need in order to be able to be used by SQL Server 2012 SP2?Why doesn't the PVKConverter generate a private key file?I can use the command makecerts to generate a self signed certificate and have it work with SQL Server database encryption.
I executed the below query and getting the capacity values only for master database. All other DB shows NULL values for spaceused. I'm actually looking for a query to get all the capacity information other than using temp table and the procedures. Is there any way using SQL query ONLY.
select db.[dbid] as 'DB ID', db.[name] as 'Database Name', af.[name] as 'Logical Name', convert(decimal(12,2),round(size/128.000,2)) as FileSizeMB, convert(decimal(12,2),round(fileproperty(db.name,'SpaceUsed')/128.000,2)) as SpaceUsedMB from sys.sysdatabases db inner join sys.sysaltfiles af on db.dbid = af.dbid
Below is the output
DB ID Database Name Logical Name FileSizeMB SpaceUsedMB 1 master master 4.00 3.44 1 master mastlog 2.00
I am designing an application built on sql server 2000 how can I prohibit other sql server users from accessing my database and allowing only acceesing it through my application or through owner designer of sql server database.
my situation needs sometimes copying the db from the end user platforms to my designer computer to analyze some problems or maintainenace or modification, and also I have no control on users windows environment and I need the end user professional not to enter the my db from outside my application.
So, is there anything I can do to secure an MDF (MSDE/SQL Server 2000) file so that a user cannot see my schema under any circumstances.
Even if I lock the MDF down and secure the instance, a smart user can just shut off the SQL server, copy the MDF to another instance, sp_attachdb and open it with sa rights. I need a way to prevent others from getting inside my schema.

Database files (.mdf and .ldf) could be copied and explored by attaching them to any other instance of sqlserver. How we could secure those files as we can do for Access file using a password ?
hi this is my 1st time on this forum, I need to keep my DB secure on SQL server, that no body can enter into my DB and couldnt see my tables and other elements of DB.
I have developed an application that uses a SQL Server compact edition database (.sdf). The database contains important data that I do not wish people to access.
My question is if I choose to Encrypt the database using the option available when you create the database and specify a password how secure is it ?
Are there tools on the market that will be able to crack this password and therefore gain access ?
We can find a lot of recommandations about how to secure a SQL*Server configuration.Does anyone have scripts to do it ?Any advices or links are welcome
How would I set up secure replication between 2 servers that are indifferent cities?Would I need to define linked servers first?Would I use SSL?Help appreciated. Thanks.Steve*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!
I develop a .NET Application which uses a SQL Express Database. The application will be distributet to several customers. That means the customer must have (or install) SQL Server Express Edition .
But we dont want that the users manual access to the database.
As far as understand that is not possible because the user (customer) will be the administrator for the SQL Server Express because it runs in his own PC (no password security).
Is it possible to secure a SQL Server database or schema using a technique such as the .Net StrongNameIdentityPermission attribute? The intent is that SQL Server would only permit transactions coming from assemblies which were signed with a particular .Net StrongName private key.
We are installing a 3rd party SQL Server / ASP.Net application which must run in our DMZ and we are looking for all possible measures to secure the SQL Server database.
