I am able to run SSIS packages as SQL Server Agent jobs with a Control Flow items "File system task", if I move a file (test.txt) from a drive (c on the server (where SQL Agent jobs run) to a subdirectory on the same drive. But, if I try to move a file on a network drive, the package fail.
SQL Agent will not successfully execute my package as a job. Bids executes the package correctly as well as when I run the package manually (right click, run package) through SQL Server Management Studio. This is a permissions issue with the flat file any help will be much appreciated.Background Information:OS: SQL 2005 on Windows Server 2003Flat File Connection: \servernamefolderfile.txt (If I change the flat file location to a local file the package will run as a job successfully)Domain: The package is running on a Windows machine that is not on any domain. When copying data to a remote SQL2K5 destination from a SQL2K5 source database, both using mixed sql server security mode, my job generates the following error:
[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".
This occurs after the destination database tables have been truncated and replacement data from the source would begin to copy.
The same process can be successfully completed from the Management studio with a simple data export process. However, when I run the saved package again from the BI interface, I get this error.
My search engine searches have yielded numerous hits of others having the same problem with one microsoft rep indicating it was a bug and would be resolved in sp1. I am working with sp1. Oddly, there is only mention of this in the forums. No KB article from MS addresses the problem and I do not see it addressed elsewhere at sqlservercentral.
It appears that others have switched to Integrated Security and resolved the problem. However, I do not have that option with a remotely hosted database.
Does anyone have any information concerning this problem?
Im trying to schedule an integration sevice package with no anvile. I have tried both running it in Agent under Integration services and operation system (CmdExec) and still wont work. The account running the job is the same account that sql server agent services is running which would only mean I really dont need any proxy account to run the job. I have been having a problem with an attempted install of sp2 (the updated one) and don't have a clue on how to get past it. Here is the error that I get
MSP Error: 29537 SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]SQL Server blocked access to procedure 'dbo.sp_is_sqlagent_starting' of component 'Agent XPs' because this component is turned off as part of the security configuration for this server.
What is strange is that I have ensured that the Agent XP's are enabled prior to the sp install by checking the agent xp's configuration option but it seems as though during the sp install it disables them and encounters problems when trying to start the SQL Agent resulting in a failure of the sp install with the message shown above.
When I check the database after the failure, it does show the AgentXP's as being disabled. I've re-enabled them multiple times with the same result.
The sp is being installed on a 2 node cluster but only one node is having the problem, the other upgraded fine. I have also had this problem on a single non-clustered server with 3 instances where two of them installed fine but one didn't, it too had the same error message.
My basic configuration is as follows: x64 Windows 2003 Standard Edition R2 SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (for the clustered server) Dev Edition for the standalone server
Any thoughts on how to get past this problem or is this a bug?
I have 2 different servers that run nightly backup jobs to a network drive using the UNC format. I am noticing the larger databases encountering the following errors on a regular basis
Error: 18210, Severity: 16, State: 1. '\fnfssql3SQLBackupsMNSQL05<database>.BAK'. Operating system error 64(The specified network name is no longer available.). BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE <database>. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
There are 5 databases on this server all backed up by the same job and 3 of them wortk fine and 2 of them fail so it is not a permissions problem. Have there been any problems with backing up to a network drive in 2005?
I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've set up Database Mail on an instance of 2005 and the test mail works just fine. However, when testing a job (notify on fail, success, whatever) the mail fails to send. Job History last information reads NOTE: Failed to notify 'My Name' via email.
Checked out the Database Mail logs - nothing interesting.
Restarted the Agent service and then checked out the current Agent Log. Found message:
[260] Unable to start mail session (reason: No mail profile defined).
The 'DatabaseMailProfile' key is most certainly defined in the Registry (at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE', N'SOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1SQLServerAgent')

We have replication setup on a sql server 2000. We encountered issue that the distribution agent goes down (distrib.exe stop running) in the event of network connection broken. We would like to know:
is this the expected result that the distribution agent will go down in the event of communication failure between the distribution server and subscriber server? if not, is there a way to programmatically control and restart the agent? Is there any sp in SQL server which can monitor the replication communication error message? is there any sp in SQL server which can be run to restart the agent? For the best practice, what do you think we can do to achieve an €˜event-driven€™ kind of mechanism so when an communication breaks, the agent can be restarted by the triggered event (or at least a simple way to automatically restart)?
I have a T-SQL script which deataches and attaches the database. Now here is what I want to do: I want to create a SQL Server Job and schedule it to run at a particular time of the month to Detach all the databases on my local machine and *Copy all the deatched databases over a network machine* and then Attach those Database.
All this should be done in T-SQL. I already have the T-SQLs for Attaching and Detaching. All I need is to know the T-SQL (example) which will copy the *Detached Databases* from mu local computer to my Network Computer. How do I achieve that?

I am developing a .NET 2.0 application that uses Sql Express as its backend. I use OleDb Provider to connect to Sql express.
One of the options in the app allows the Admin to create a Backup of the database. As part of this process, I write a log entry to one of the tables in the database, commit & close the connection, and then copy the physical database(.mdf) file to some pre-determined location using the following instruction (in VB): My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyFile("Path to Database File", "Destination Path")
It throws an exception saying that the file is in use. Upon checking, I found that the file has been locked-up by the Sql process. I ensured that my app closes all connections to the database, that there is none other trying to connect to it, and then again tried to execute the above instruction in my app, again raising the same error.
However, when the app terminates, then I can easily copy the databse using explorer. I also used the OleDb method ReleaseObjectPool(), but the problem persisted.
So, how can I copy the database in such a situation from within my app??
I have SQL 2005 running on OS 2003. I am trying to take backup on a network drive (NAS box).
I have logged into the OS2003 machine as ADSadministrator and the same for SQL 2005. I have given full control to ADSadministrator on the network drive of the NAS box.

I am executing a CLR Stored Procedure from a Windows Mobile device and regularly get a general network error.
The stored procedure cycles through up to 70 tables, checking for any records between two dates. The LastUpdate field is in each one of the 70 tables and is indexed.
The mobile device regularly reports general network error, which is due to a timeout. Command timeout is now set to 10 minutes but the timeout still occurs.
The stored procedure appears to get stuck on a particular table. If I rebuild the index on this table, it will get past it but then get stuck on the next table.
I set up a maintenance plan to run every 5 minutes (extreme, I know!) but the indices would appear to corrupt (without any activity on the table) in less than this interval.
However, running the exact same query from SQL Server Management Studio works correctly every time and usually within 10 seconds.
I€™m sure that it has something to do with the indices but cannot seem to resolve the issue. It€™s even more confusing how only the mobile device is affected!
We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.

We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:
Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.

I have 2003 server installed on my machine along with MS SQL Server Management Studio and I am able to connect fine to SQL 2000 Instances. On my laptop running Vista Enterprise, I can not connect to these exact same instances via MS SQL Server Management Studio as I am getting the above error. Does anyone else have this problem? First-time poster (and very new to ASP.NET, so please be patient) - I am using VS 2005. I have an ASP.Net 2.0 app that is using Forms Authentication and a Login server control with AspNetSqlMembershipProvider. I have an instance of ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data directory on my local machine and all works well (or at least as expected). I used the Copy Web Site function to port the app (including the ASPNETDB.MDF files) to my production platform, where I encounter the error mentioned in the subject line. I have found posts (both here and other forums) that mention enabling TCP/IP using Surface Area Configuartion Utility, SQL Server Browser are exempt from firewall, and a few other things. My production machine does not have SQL SVR 2005 installed nor SQL SVR Express. Do I have to install SQL Server Express onto my production platform in order to resolve this, or is there another means (something in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio on my local machine) that will enable me to do this on the production machine?Also, I have been told that it is possible to use a database on another machine as the data store for authentication. Does anyone know how to do that? This would make the first question moot.Thanks in advance!

All aspects of my website work as expected when previewed in the browser locally.
