SQL Server 2008 :: Syntax Error When Trying To Change Mirroring For Dedicated Network Through Specific IP

Jun 10, 2015

We have a database in SQL Server 2008 R2 with mirroring and want that replication is done by dedicated network. We stop the endpoint and when we try to run the following command, syntax error occurred:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near '192.168.1.14'.

What is the correct syntax of the command line below?

ALTER ENDPOINT Endpoint_Mirroring AS TCP (LISTENER_IP = '192.168.1.14')

Mirroring Dedicated Traffic

Oct 27, 2006

We are using the following configuration:

2 stand alone Windows 2003 servers 64 bit.

Each have two Gig Network cards configured with different IP addresses.

Each running multiple instances of SQL Server 64.

I am trying to set up a mirror where mirroring traffic between servers will be dedicated to a secondary IP address on the second NIC.

I am also trying to avoid Windows authentication.

Interesting enough: Security Configuration screen suggesting you to use fully qualified TCP addresses and, at the same time, does not give you such an option...

Would someone please point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

SQL Server 2008 :: Replicate Only Specific Data To Specific Subscriber?

Jun 30, 2015

We have a "main" SQL 2014 server who imports XML files using SSIS in a datacenter. In remote sites (which are warehouses), there is an instance of SQL 2014 Express. A merge replication is setup, as every operations done on each site must be "forwared" to the main database, as some XML files are generated as output for an ERP system.

Now, the merge replication replicate all the data to the server on each sites. But a specific site don't need the data of every other sites, only the data relevant to itself (which is the warehouse code). Is there a way to replicate only the data relevant to each individual sites to the subscribers? Or is there a better way than replication to accomplish this?

SQL Server 2008 :: Database Mirroring Timeout Setting?

Oct 20, 2011

I have setup database mirroring with witness server. To prevent unnecessary failover because of network slow or other issue, I changed the timeout setting as

ALTER DATABASE <Database Name>
SET PARTNER TIMEOUT 120

Which I understand if connection is broken between principal and mirror, principal database will wait for 120 second and after that only automatic failover will happen.

If this is true, it does not happen in my case. Failover happens before120 second.

SQL Server 2008 :: Moving Into A Specific Filegroup

Jun 3, 2015

SQL 2008 R2

I have a partitioned table in which one of the partitions is on the Primary filegroup. I want to move the data off of that Primary filegroup, and and on to a new filegroup named RTFG6.

Scheme and function currently defined as:

CREATE PARTITION SCHEME [PS1_Left_id] AS PARTITION [PF1_Left_id] TO ([RTFG1], [RTFG2], [RTFG3], [RTFG4], [RTFG5], [PRIMARY])

CREATE PARTITION FUNCTION [PF1_Left_id](int) AS RANGE LEFT FOR VALUES (10, 15, 35, 48, 53)

I've tried split and merge, and for whatever reason, always end up with the Primary filegroup holding data.

How do i get it off of Primary completely, and onto RTFG1 to RTFG6?

I don't want to export to a holding table and re-create the table if i can avoid it, due to identity columns and relationships with multiple tables.

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS Expression On Getting The Specific Files?

Feb 26, 2015

I am developing the SSIS and stuck on copying specific files.

1. We receive CSV file to our drive on a daily basis.

2. The csv file name has the last 8 digits formatted with the yyyymmdd. For example, the file name might be abcdef_20150226.csv This means it will be our CSV file for today, Thursday, February 26, 2015.

3. There are a lot of files in this directory.

[URL]

What we would like to do:

Add the constraints (or expression) that will copy the files from this directory to another directory that have the date equivalent to Monday only. For example, the file abcdef_20150226.csv will not be copied because it is Thursday file. But the abcdec_20150223 will be copied to a new Directory because it is Monday.

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Load SSIS Package For Any Specific Date

May 18, 2015

I have a ssis package which runs daily. This ssis package has couple of execute sql tasks which load data for yesterday's transaction. Ex.

INSERT INTO Shipped (Div_Code, shipment_value, ship_l_id, shipped_qty, shipped_date, whse_code,

ord_id, ship_id, ship_l_ord_l_id, Created_date) select ord.DIV_CODE as div_code, ship.SHIPMENT_VALUE as shipment_value, ship_l.SHIP_L_ID as ship_l_id, ship_l.SHIPPED_QTY as shipped_qty, ship.SHIPPED_DATE as shipped_date, ship.WHSE_CODE as whse_code, ord.ORD_ID as ord_id, ship.SHIP_ID as ship_id, ship_l.ord_l_id as ship_l_ord_l_id, Getdate() as Created_date from SHIP ship, ORD ord, SHIP_L ship_l where ship.SHIPPED_DATE=(dateadd(day, -1, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),120))) and ship.WHSE_CODE='WPP' and ord.ORD_ID=ship.ORD_ID and ship.SHIP_ID=ship_l.SHIP_ID

All execute sql task has query like above query. and in some query we have date filter which loads data for yesterday. Ex. one query has ship.SHIPPED_DATE=(dateadd(day, -1, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),120))). some other query has ord.trans_date=(dateadd(day, -1, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),120))). this package runs daily through sql server job, so It loads data for yesterday. Now If i want to run for any particular date, How could we achieve from ssis?

Network Considerations For Mirroring

Apr 19, 2007

I would like to know people's thoughts on any special network considerations to take for mirroring and the logic behind them. Is it best to segregate mirroring traffic from other network traffic? Use a VLAN? Dedicate one NIC for mirroring and the other for general network traffic or just aggregate the two and let both types of traffic share the bandwidth?

I haven't seen much in this area from Microsoft's best practices and wanted to know what those who have implemented it have done and why. There are pros and cons for each method: Letting everything share one massive pipe with load balancing vs. trying to segregate traffic in some way so that general network connections etc. do not impact the mirroring capability.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Mirroring Partners Disconnected After Network Outage

Oct 25, 2007

We have mirroring set up on SQL 2005(SP2) on windows server 2003 servers for 6 production servers to DR servers. It is high performance mode(asynchonous). We are using fully qualified server names with default 5022 port. Prod and DR are using same domain service account.

We had network outage for about 30 minutes last weekend and after that network was restored back to normal. Also few SQL 2000 servers have logshipping and it automatically started syncing up after network was restored. However mirroring didn't start automatically. Partners were in disconnected state and endpoints were stopped. For one database, log grew to 40 GB using most of the disk space.

Then we maually had to run

ALTER ENDPOINT Mirroring STATE = STARTED

and then it started syncing up.

Now the question is why it doesn't start syncing up automatically after network is back to normal and recognize the partner?
Is there anyway we can setup timeout or any parameter like that to specify how many times or how long partners try to connect with no luck and then give up?

Mintu

SQL Server 2008 :: Change Tracking On Table?

Jun 8, 2015

best way to track changes for a very pesky table. We pull down a table from an Oracle database (via linked server) into our SQL Server on a daily basis. The data in this table is just truncated and reloaded daily. There is no "history" kept in the oracle database and values are not being "updated" its just dropped and repopulated.

So, I have toyed around with CDC and even creating my own custom auditing method but I can't come up with a reasonable solution that doesn't involve a massive audit table that doesn't provide much useful info.

For example, there are two date fields in the table that my customer wishes to have history tracked for. Every day, this table is truncated and reloaded - however those dates may stay the same for many many many months. If I turn on CDC, I will get tons of audit records for a delete and an insert every day but the values for the two date fields may not have even changed.

The table has tons of fields in it but I only care about the 2 date fields for history purposes. Here is a snippet of the table (I took out all the additional fields in the table and just left the two date fields that need to be tracked):

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Fake_Name](
[lin] [char](6) NOT NULL,
[boip_no] [char](6) NOT NULL,
[dt_tc] [varchar](25) NULL,

[Code] .....

method to track changes to this table with it being truncated every day?

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General Network Error. Check Your Network Documen

Sep 30, 2004

Hello all,

We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.

This site receives the following error as seen in the topic:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.

We've configured the server network utility to only allow TCP/IP connections. The connection string for the site is as follows:

<%
' FileName="Connection_ado_conn_string.htm"
' Type="ADO"
' HTTP="false"
' Catalog=""
' Schema=""
MM_connSpankMSSQL_STRING = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=SERVER_IP,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=ourmaindb_1;User ID=ourmaindb_1;Password=hotcookies;"
%>

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.

The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.

Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.

Should have 330 rows if it works right.
