SQL Server 2012 :: SSIS - Stop DataFlow Task If Result Set Is Empty?

Oct 7, 2014

I am trying to create a SSIS package that will create a csv of a dataset for daily events in the database. However there will be days that there was no activity and thus an empty dataset. The package still runs fine but I want to stop the package if the dataset is empty.

FLOW:

DATA FLOW task: get daily data and put in CSV file

FTP TASK: upload the file to FTP server

MAIL/Copy file task: Move the file and then send a confirmation mail on task completion status.

Pretty simple and it all works great, I do have a few complexities in there. What I would like to add and I am at a loss is at the beginning, if the OLE DB Task resultset is empty then move to Mail Task otherwise process normally. I have tried conditional split, derived columns, the only thing I haven't tried in Script task and am not sure about that yet.

Trigger A Dataflow Based On Execute SQL Task Result

Jul 18, 2007

Hi,

I have a 'Execute SQL Task' in my 'control flow', my 'Execute SQL Task' will return a value which I am assigning to a variable. Based on the value of the variable, I need to control my other flows. If the variable's value is 1 then I should invoke a dataflow, else I should write a failure error message in event viewer. Please could someone provide some inputs on how this can be done.

'Execute SQL Task' ----->value 1 ------>data flow to be executed

'Execute SQL Task' ----->value !=1 ------> write some error message in the event viewer and no tasks should be executed after that.

Thanks

HELP--SSIS Dataflow Task

Nov 21, 2006

Need help regarding ssis dataflow task

I need to create a ssis package. I want to import the data from a flat file to a table.

Lets say, the table has 5 columns -- col1, col2, col3, col4 , col5.(Assume that all columns can be NULLABLE) The datafile contains the data related to only three columns say col1, col2, col3. So when I use dataflow task to import the data from the file to the table, I will only get three columns, col1, col2, col3. Columns col4, col5 will be NULL.
However, I want to populate columns col4, col5 with some values which are stored in the variable.

IS there any way to do this??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

SSIS Dataflow Task Error

Aug 14, 2007

Hello, to give you a background on where I'm coming from:

I have an SSIS Package with a global String variable that has an sql statement. so it says something like: "Select * from MyTable "

I than have a SQL Script Task where I append a WHERE Statement to my string.

Than in the Dataflow Task when I select the source database, I run command from Variable.

When I run the package I get an error that my string is too long. My string is about 750 characters that I'm trying to pass through.

Is there some limitation to this?

I have ran the raw SQL Command in the SQL manager and it runs fine. I have built a million of these packages, just not one with such a large string.

If it is the case that it is just too long, is there a work around to that?

Thanks,
Rusty.

SSIS DataFlow Task Out Of Memmory

Apr 19, 2007

I have a problem whit loading XML-files into SQL server.

I iterate over the XML-files with the "for each file" component and use the XML source within a Data flow task. This works great until the file count got bigger. After say 1000 files the XML source returns error 0x8007000E. I think this means out of memory. Does anyone have an idea how to solv this. The load must be able to handle up to 5000 files in one batch.

SSIS DataFlow Task To Generate Custom Columns

Apr 7, 2008

Hi All,

I am using a Data Flow task which copies data from an Excel Source to a SQL Database Table Destination. From 15 columns I require only 10 columns to be imported to the DB Table. So I have mapped those colums. In SQL DB there is a colum called say X, whose value should be the "Remedy" for all the columns which are imported. Is there any task that can achieve it.

Please Help.

How Should I Change The Source File Name Every Time During Dataflow Task Using Ssis

Apr 4, 2008

Hi,
I am using SQL Server2005 for SSIS. I want to change the source connection dynamicaly evertime.
Let me clear, I have to extract some column from excel to MS-Access. I am using Data Flow Task and able to successfully complete the job. But problem is that, whenever a new file comes , i must have to reconfigure my Excel Source.
All the time column in file are same, so no need to worry about mapping but how can my package select a file automatically.
I have a directory, suppose "C:dpak". I should able to pick the filename and sheet name from this directory every time when my package will execute.

Store Varbinary Data Result Into SSIS Variable Through Execute SQL Task

Feb 13, 2008

I cannot find the data type for parameter mapping from Execute SQL Task Editor to make this works.

1. Execute SQL Task 1 - select max(columnA) from tableA. ColumnA is varbinary(8); set result to variable which data type is Object.

2. Execute SQL Task 2 - update tableB set columnB = ?
What data type should I use to map the parameter? I tried different data types, none working except GUI but it returned wrong result.

Does SSIS variable support varbinary data type? I know there's a bug issue with bigint data type and there's a work-around. Is it same situation with varbinary?

Thanks,

In SSIS Execute SQL Task, Single-row Result From Querying Mysql Binding With A Variable

Jul 20, 2007

I set up a connection to mysql using ADO.NET's ODBC Data Provider. And I'm running a simple query to return one table's maximum ID(int32 unsigned). There is no problem to achieve that.

But when I bind the result to a variable and excute task. It gives out error message: "An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "MaxAuditLogID": "Result binding by name "MaxID" is not supported for this connection type. "

I tried to change the type of variable around but with no luck.

Why DataFlow Task Takes More To Complete Than Doing The Same In Execute SQL Task

Jun 12, 2007

An Execute SQL task takes 1 min to run a statement "insert into Mytable select * from view_using_joins"

Output: 10,225 rows affected.

But a Dataflow task configured to fetch data from the same view_using_joins into MyTable takes hours to do the same.

Could you please explain why is it so ?

What To Do With An Empty Result Set

Mar 13, 2008

I'm querying my database with a datetime constraint, only picking up records newer than the last ETL. Although I doubt it would ever happen I was going to put a check in the data flow to trap the case when NO rows were read due to inactivity in the OLAP. I set up a row count and tried to trap it. Apparently if you use an OLE DB source to get a result set and that result set is empty, the program flow bypasses everything and keeps running until it hits something causing an error, like an SQL Insert or Update command.

Is there any way to trap this condition? Currently it is going to cause the program to fail which will cause a snapshot restore (after kicking everyone out of the database).

Thanks.

SQL Server 2012 :: Show Empty Output With 0?

Oct 7, 2014

I have a sql query that gets the count of exams held in each month.

Below is the code that I have used.

select Examid, count(*) as CumCount
from [dbo].[Exams] where ExamCategory in ('Major','Critical') and Month(EXOCCRDATE) = Month(getdate())
and Year(EXOCCRDATE) = Year(getdate()) group by Examid

The code works good when we have data for the current month. When we dont have any exams for the current month, the code outputs empty values. I want the code to be altered so that when there is no value returned in the output, i want a default value shown in the output.

I have attached the sample data that I am using. In the data we dont have dates for the month of October. So when I run the code it will display empty output. So what I need is I need a text like 'No Data' to be shown when no value is returned by the query.

I tried using case but it does not work.

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Package - FTP Task Fails When Run From A Job

Apr 3, 2014

We are running SQL Server 2012 SP1 64-Bit EE on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. I have a SSIS Package which connects to a FTP Site and downloads a file. Then it truncates a table and loads the file data into a table. This package works okay when executed from within VSS and SSMS (In SSISDB, right click on the package and execute). However, when I execute it as a Job it does not run and appears to be failing on the first task which is the FTP Task. SQL job step - Type: SSIS Package; Run as: SQL Server Agent Service Account (domain account called playuser); Authentication: Windows Authentication. In the All Executions Standard Report for the SSISDB Catalog, it only says: FTP Download File: Errors: There were errors during task validation.

Is this because my domain account does not have access to the FTP Site?Is this where I need to come up with a Proxy Account with Credentials?Do I need to set up a SQL Server Login (Proxy Account) with the same username being used in the FTP Batch file?

FTP Commands in a batch file:

Spt_datatype_info Result Is Empty

Mar 23, 2007

Enviroment
O.S. = Windows Small Business 2003
DB = SQL 2000 Server with SP3a
No windows or third party firewalls that are set up.

Problem:
When performing a Link Table in MS Access 2003 it runs into this error message "The Microsoft Jet Database engine could not find the object 'zstblSetup' (the name of our table). Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and path name correctly.

But when we try to another server but at this time the SQL 2000 is patch with SP4, the link table works fine in Ms Access 2003. So we decided to use SQL Profiler to trace the cause of the problem. It so happen when sp_columns N'zstblSetup' is called no result is returned. Going through the code in sp_columns, it calls spt_datatype_info. When calling spt_datatype_info, again no record is returned. We suspect that spt_datatype_info is the culprit of the problem that's why Link Table in MS Access 2003 doesn't work.

Calling the sp_columns and spt_datatype_info into the working server that I mentioned aboved can return results. The way I understand it spt_datatype_info holds the SQL data type info.

My question is if we apply SP4 in the server that is problematic will this problem be resolved? Or are there any possible reason to solve this problem?

SQL 2012 :: Lookup Task In SSIS - Using A View Rather Than A Table?

Aug 6, 2014

We have a LKP table that we will use to decode incoming codes from multiple sales feeds to link to the relevant surrogate key for the ultimate dimension table.

The LKP table has a start date, end date and active row flag to track history of the codes.

This table in its entirety is required for the FULL history load but we will need a CURRENT version of the table containing only the ACTIVE rows for the DAILY incremental loading.

I am thinking of putting a standard view over the top of the LKP table to present only the ACTIVE rows rather than creating a 2nd table and reloading it each night. We don't have enterprise edition to use materialised views.

My question is, will the LKP cache populate as the SSIS packages begins, loading it with all the rows from the view, as it would if I used the 2nd physical table with only ACTIVE rows?

Big Queries Return Empty Result Set

Apr 22, 2004

Hello guys,

MS SQL server 2000 behavies strange with big queries that involves relatively large number of tables:
If I just enumerate columns I want to receive, the result set is empty. Adding * to the column list without making any change to where clause seems to solve the problem but I guess it's not the best practice.
The most amazing is that this behavior is not stable, so I suppose there's something to deal with server itself, not the application.
Has anybody suffered this problem and what solution was adopted?
Thanks for any information you can provide.

DataFlow Task Fails?

Hi:

I am getting the following error when I start debugging my Package, I am not sure what this is related to, but basically, input (datatype is a int, and its mapped to a column which is also int), so I am not sure whats happening here. The input column is actually a derived column, and its set as a 4 byte un-signed int, please advice on where should I start looking to troubleshoot this issue. This loanapplicationid is actually a user variable that is utilized by other tasks in my control flow as well:
