I need to restore a SQL 2008 db on SQL 2014 instance with out upgrading the database(changing compatibility level).
This database has full text enabled. I see one full text catalog an 2 full text indexes.
Do I need to worry about anything or can I perform a clean restore from the backup with full text import?
Do I need to rebuild the catalog in this case?
When restoring a database that contained a full text catalog to another server I noticed that the full text catalogs were not restored. However, the system tables still had the information on these catalogs. As such, I couldn't delete the catalogs (because they didn't exist).
In the end, I deleted the relevant lines from the system table sysfulltextcatalogs and sysobjects and then built a new set of catalogs. Obviously this isn't ideal.
I am restoring databases to a backup/standby server on a regular basis and was wondering if there are any official/documented methods of restoring full text catalogs to another server. (i.e. without having to mess around with the system tables). There doesn't seem to be much in BOL.
Any pointers or ideas on this would be welcome.

When I try to create a full-text catalog on my local database I get an error that I can not find support information for.
Here is the command I run :CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG asset_search_values_catalog on FILEGROUP ftFileGroup IN PATH 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData' as default
Here is the error message I get:
Msg 7689, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Execution of a full-text operation failed. 'No such interface supported'
I check the properties of my database and Full-text is enabled.
I am running SQL Server 2005, on an XP Pro, SP2.
I had originially installed in side by side with SQL Server 2000.
I even tried uninstalling SQL Server 2005 (to try a re-install), I could not even uninstall the database.
What should I do.
We are running a full text index on a single field in one table. The catalogs have grown to over 53GB. Is there a way to shrink these down?

We are running SQL 2014 SP1. We are using defined Full text indexes on several tables in the database. However, on one specific set of servers, a certain search will not return any data. This exact same search works on another set of servers built identically. The first responses I'm sure will be stop list, but I have dropped and recreated the FTI multiple times with different stop lists or no stop list at all and get the same results.
The specific word being searched on is YUM. If I change the value to YUMk, it actually returns, and if I change the data to TUM it returns, but YUM does not. This exact query is working on multiple other systems, so it seems to be something environmental, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

Until yesterday I had a server running SQL Server 2008 R2 - with all the SQL Server DB files on an attached disk array.
The server died - so I attached the disk array to a new server - and all the DB data files are visible there.
I installed SQL Server 2014 on the new server and am trying to work out how to point it at the existing database files.
I also have backups of the DB's - but they will take ages to copy over and restore - so it would be much easier to just use the db files. Should I restore the master db first (easy as its small)?
I am in the process of moving databases from a SQL 2005 Standard version to a 2-node 2014 cluster.All of my 2005 databases back up successfully.They all restore without issue except for one database that has a full text catalog. I get this message

I went as far as giving the folder full access to everyone temporarily and received the same error.
Can any one help - my Full text catalog on a remote shared sql server hasdied and i need to recreate it completely - I have done this before but i'velost the code to do it.If I remember right what i did was use start --> run --> to run an exe in themssql folder that connected to the remote server - but i've lost all theparameters I needed for it.ANy help much apprectiated

I'm shopwing mutilple records in the backup set db w/ type = 'D'. I look online and type D = Database. Which i assumed it meant full database backup. Apparently not. Dead lock is coming in select query in application because of index. It is identified after enabling trace in database and identified by reading deadlock xml file. After index removal, deadlock is not coming in same query. But it is affecting query's performance slightly. Is it correct way to remove index if dead lock is coming because of index?

No records are ever deleted as this table is used for archiving only.Users are required to perform SELECTs on this table constantly but due to the high number of INSERTs the indexes become very fragmented very quickly. My aim is to avoid daily rebuilds of the indexes which is what our software house is telling us we have to do.
This is the DDL for the table:

There are also three clustered Indexes on this table each referencing a single column. The problem from my side is that I cannot understand why the three columns in a primary key would also be configured as non-clustered indexes.My solution would be one of the following:
1. Accept the tables are going to be fragmented and require a daily rebuild (don't like this one!)
2. Partition the table
3. Remove the non-clustered Indexes and let the clustered index for the primary key do the work.
I would like to put a Clustered Index on a date column in a current heap, but one question/concern.This heap every month has thousands of rows deleted and even more added later. How much of an issue will this cause the Clustered Index as far as page splits? I was thinking Fill Factor of 70%.I would normally just test and still will on Dev box, but my Dev box is much smaller than production as far as power.

Is there any rule of thumb for allocating log space for doing reorgs and rebuilds in a worst case scenario? I'm thinking 3x the largest database size?
I've been watching them run on databases in the range of 50GB where the logs are growing well over that for rebuilds or even reorgs. Once you have a few databases like this on a server, you can suddenly eat through a lot of disk space just for holding logs during maintenance.
I have 10 Gb index and disk space only left 5gb .
How can i rebuild index ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a database which has (god knows how) ended up with a Full text catalog which is believes is on the E: drive of the machine. The problem is that machine only has C: drive.
If I try and rebuid the catalog (sp_fulltext_catalog 'documents','rebuild') I get an error saying that e:... doesn't exist.
If I try and drop the catalog (sp_fulltext_catalog 'documents', 'drop'), I can't because it contains a full-text index.
If I try and drop remove the full text index from the table (sp_fulltext_table 'tbl_upload','drop'), I can't because Full-text catalog has been lost. Use sp_fulltext_catalog to rebuild and to repopulate it.
HELP
Does anybody know how to either drop it so that I can recreate it or how to update it so that it looks at a disk that the machine actually has?
