SQL Server ODBC Error 80004005: Login Failed

May 7, 2007

Hello,

Until a few weeks ago I was very satisfied with my frontend/backend application Access 2003/SQL Server Express. Then I tried to build a website with Dreamweaver 8.0 and connect it to the Server DBase and everything went wrong. My problems are the following:

In trying out the connection between DW and SQL I tried and changed some things with no result. I suddenly got a problem with the Norton firewall (wurms part) and with the named instance. At this very moment I sometimes have to switch from ".SQLEXPRESS" to "<machinename>SQLEXPRESS under Windows authentication. (provider: TCP provider, error 0 - no connection because of an active refuse of the goalcomputer)(MSQL Server error 10061). How can I solve this problem?
The connection between DW (using ASP) and SQL Server always gives the same error: "ODBC drivers error 80004005 cannot open database x requested by login. The login failed". I tried everything I know (that isn't much by the way) but getting no connection between the two programs. When I test the connection and the recordset in DW everything is OK. Anyone any suggestions?
The third problem is the most important. By doing things like (1) en (2) my frontend/backend database has become very very slow (it takes minutes to get a simple query done) and in fact doesnot function at all. When I look in de SQL part everything seems OK and I can open the tables quickly, but in Access the menus work but the forms and queries don't. This problem is very essential to me and I hope there is a solution?

I hope I'll get some answers to the above questions.

Thanks in advance.

Aspclassic On IIS7 SQL 2005. ODBC SQL Server Driver[SQL Server]Cannot Open Database Requested By The Login. The Login Failed

Apr 16, 2008

Hi all,

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.

My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "mydatabasename" requested by the login. The login failed.
/index.asp, line 10 which is dbConnect.Open cstring

from this peice of code:

sub dbOpen()
set dbConnect = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cstring = "DSN=mysqldsn; Trusted Connection=yes"
dbConnect.Open cstring
end sub

I have gone into ODBC and have setup both a user dsn and file dsn that equals mysqldsn and points to my database (I know you only need to set up one DSN but I'm not sure which)

I also notice under mywebsite home panel there is a connection string option. Do I do anything with that?

Definatley a lot more to it than XP's II6!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

OLE DB Or ODBC Error: Login Failed For User 'NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SERVICE'

Apr 27, 2006

Hi,

I need help with a problem: When trying to process a analysis services project, I receive the following error message -

OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SERVICE'.; 28000; Cannot open database "DocumentDB" requested by the login. The login failed.; 42000.

I am using the service account for impersonation for the datasource. One suggestion I received from the data-access forum was to grant privileges to the local service for the database. I am not clear about the procedure to do that. Can someone please guide me through this? I am posting this question in this forum since this is a authentication/privilege issue.

[S0001][unixODBC][Easysoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login Failed For User 'test1'

May 8, 2007

Hello,

I am new to SQL Server, sorry for my ignorance !!!

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express on my desktop (Win 2000 Pro.)

I have created a new database.

I just created a new login/user (SQL Authentication) and when I try to login, it

errors out:

[S0001][unixODBC][Easysoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'test1'

I believe the error is from SQL Server and not from ODBC driver.

I am also only able to connect by using my own userid (the one that I am connected to my desktop): domainuserid, and then I am only able to connect to 'master' db:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Link Server Error: Login Failed For User 'Domainuser'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)

Oct 18, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to create a linked server between 2 SQL Server 2005 boxes.
When I create the linked server I specify a login for the connection.
The strange part is that I get the following error when it goes to test the connection:

The test connection to the linked server failed
Login failed for user 'Domainuser'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)

I can use the SQL mangement studio to conenct to the database using this same login.
The login has all the server roles assigned to it also.

Can anyone shed some light as to what may be the problem?

Thanks,

Server Error - Login Failed - Plz Help

I wrote a code to check and validate the username and password against the database and redirect the user based on the user flag as follows:

Dim MyConnection As SqlConnection
Try

Dim strUsername As String = txtUsername.Text
Dim strPassword As String = txtPassword.Text
Dim DS As DataSet

Dim MyCommand As SqlDataAdapter

Dim SelectCommand As String = "select userid, flag from employees where username = @login and password = @password"

MyConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=localhost;Integrated Security=SSPI;" & _

MyCommand = New SqlDataAdapter(SelectCommand, MyConnection)

MyCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@login", SqlDbType.Char, 10))
MyCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters("@login").Value = strUsername

MyCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@password", SqlDbType.Char, 10))
MyCommand.SelectCommand.Parameters("@password").Value = strPassword

DS = New DataSet

MyCommand.Fill(DS)
'MyConnection.Close()

If DS.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then
Dim flag As String = DS.Tables(0).Rows(0)("flag")
Dim id As Integer = DS.Tables(0).Rows(0)("userid")

Session.Add("flag", flag)
If flag = "u" Then
Session.Add("userid", id)
Session.Add("Page", "user")

Finally

Cannot Open Database XXXX Requested By Login. The Login Failed. Login Failed For User 'xxx'

Mar 18, 2007

hi,
 so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them:
"Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login.  The login failed.  Login failed for user 'xxx'"
Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error.
I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database.  I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account.  Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed'
This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too.  But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database.  If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either.
I'm stumped.  Any ideas?

Due to space issues I've copied my DB to a remote server.

Everything looks to be working well.

The problem arises when I try to query the remote DB.

Hr=80004005 ERR:OpenDB Failed Getting Pub Version 28627

Jan 7, 2006

I am getting the error "Hr=80004005 ERR:OpenDB failed getting pub version 28627" in the SQLCESA30.LOG log file in the "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile EditionServerSqlMobileReplication" directory - the directory set up as the Virtual Directory in Internet Explorer. This occurs when I try to set up a .sdf file to be replicated to a SQL Server 2005 Mobile database (I'm following the instructions from the Microsoft Tutorial - http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/med302_msdn_sql_mobile.asp).

In the UI, when I attempt to set up a new Subscription (setting up my publication goes without any problems), I get an error. It occurs at the last step of the "New Subscription" step on "Synchronizing Data (100%)" / "In Progress" and reads as follows:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio------------------------------Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the SQL user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect.HRESULT 0x80004005 (29060)
I have set up the snapshot directory, and given the IUSR_[machine name], and IWAM_[machine name], and Administrator users full access to the works. I have given Full Access for Share permissions for this folder as well. When running http://MYBOX/SqlMobileReplication/sqlcesa30.dll?diag from either Firefox or IE, there are no problems (I do get 8.0 Database Reconciler FAILURE 0x80004005, however I'm not using SQL Server 2000, so it shouldn't matter).

I don't believe it's a file permissions problem, because each time I access the URL, an entry is made in the SQLCESA30.LOG file as follows:
2006/01/07 12:53:16 Hr=80004005 ERR:OpenDB failed getting pub version 28627

I've tried running the wizard with the Administrator account, the sa account, and even setting the IIS Virtual Directory to use the Administrator account as the account that Anonymous users run under. I've also set up both TCP/IP and Named Pipes to accept remote connections using the Start Menu ‡’ Programs ‡’ Microsoft SQL Server 2005 ‡’ Configuration Tools ‡’SQL Server Configuration Manager. I've tested this connectivity from another box using the osql command. The connection succeeded. I've even tried regenerating the snapshot, then checking file permissions on the snapshot, but I find no problems (the snapshot generates correctly, and permissions to the IIS User allow read).

I have configured the publication's "Publication Access List" to include every single account that exists in SQL Server, but it still doesn't work.

According to MSDN, error 28627 is a "Client Agent Error" which means SSCE_M_OPENSQLSERVER - "Failure to open SQL Server with given connect string." I'm setting the logon password as the [sa] account in the last step of the Subscription wizard, though. Further, I've configured the SQL Server Agent to run as the Administrator account on my machine (which is both the Publisher and Subscriber at this stage), and I have configured Administrator to have db_owner in each database.

What am I doing wrong?

VB.NET Login (SQL Server 2005) Error: Communication With The Underlying Transaction Manager Has Failed

Mar 4, 2008

Hi all,I am trying to setup a VB.Net development environment on my desktop for one of the application which was already in the production for couple of years (some unknown contractor(s) developed and maintained it so far). The application works fine on the web.Visual Studio 2005, .Net 2.0, SQL 2000, SQL Server 2005 were installed on my desktop. When I try to build the entire application/solution in the debug mode (i.e., with http://localhost/), build succeeds and I could get to the login.aspx. When I try to login, I am getting an error in the Visual Studio at the following code;connection = New SqlConnection(connectionString)
connection.Open()
 saying "Communication with the underlying transaction manager has failed", "System.Transactions.TransactionManagerCommunicationException was unhandled by user code". And the web browser displays the following error "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component".     When I try to connect the SQL Server 2005 with the same ConnectionString attributes by going to Tools>Connect to Database, it works fine. But, through application connection.Open() giving above errors.     I have set the MSDTC properties (i.e., under Component Services>MyComputer Properties>Security Configuration) as below:-Enabled Network DTC Access, Allow Remote Clients, Allow Remote Administration, Allow Inbound, Allow Outbound, No Authentication required - selected, Enabled XA Transactions...& DTC Logon Account is "NT AUTHORITYNetworkService".Please help.Thanks in advance,Chandra

Microsoft OLE DB Provider For SQL Server Error '80004005' On The Local Machine

Mar 18, 2008

Hi,

I using SQL 2005 on Vista machine.

After disconnected from VPN (Cisco) , I am not able to connect to my SQL. Getting the error Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Timed Out.

Restarting the SQL Server or Reset IIS, nothing works.

If I restart the machine, it works fine again.
If I don't connect to VPN, I have no problem.

I am wondering that might be the problem. I enabled all the protocols.

Thanks
Venkat
