Oct 13, 2006

I have a VERY Legitmate use to install sql 4 workgroups on a pc without licensing it. I am making a disk image for MANY pcs to be imaged and load licensing after the imaging is completed.

I have been able to do this with Windows XP Professional, MS Office 2003 and a couple non-Ms programs. The information for MS software even came from their KB, so I know what I am doing is legit. I just can't find any information on doing this for my sql app.

2 Questions: License Installation And Speed

Jul 23, 2005

Hello,I have two questions, first some background info:We are running SQL 2000 on a Windows 2003 server for out aircraftparts database software. There are 7 workstations (windows 2000 and XP) that run the partsdatabase.4 of those workstations run really fast, the database calls are nearinstant. but the other 3 identical workstations are incredibly slow.Taking over a minute to load what takes the other workstations lessthen 2seconds, etc...Since each workstation is identical (all XP are the same, all 2K arethe same) my first thought was that we didn't have enough SQL CALlicenses for the 7 workstations, thus the 4 licenses we had wereallowing some to run fast, but the other 3 were qued up until spacebecame free, or something like that.We purchased an additional 3 CAL licenses, but I'm not sure how toinstall them...My first question:How do you actually go about installing SQL CAL licenses?I went on the MS website, and it says to simply open up the controlpanel, go into the SQL license Manager, and turn the spinner up tothe # of licenses you have.Which I did.Is that all there is to it?I can't imagine you would simply be on your honor to put that spinnerto the correct number of licenses.Question # 2If that IS the correct way to install your licenses...It made no difference in the 3 workstations SQL speed.Yes I restarted the SQL service after upping the license amount. These workstation are the same speed on the network as the "fast"workstations in every other application and when sending files,etc...Any help greatly appreciated!Take carePosted Via Usenet.com Premium Usenet Newsgroup Services----------------------------------------------------------** SPEED ** RETENTION ** COMPLETION ** ANONYMITY **----------------------------------------------------------http://www.usenet.com

Differences Between SQL2000 Dev. Edition && SQL2005 Dev. Edition

Jun 29, 2006

Hello all,Can anyone tell me or suggest links about differences of SQL Server2000 Developer Edition & SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition?Specifically, I need to know about the licencing policy. So far I know that SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition is licenced fordevelpoment (what else), test and demo use. Each licence entitles onlyone developer to use the software on as many systems as necessary andadditional developers can use the software by parchasing additionallicences (some sentences borrowed by microsoft's presentation of theproduct).Does 2000 Edition has more functions than the latest one? In otherwords, what the advantages and disadvantages of these 2 Versions? Thanks in advance?PS: Shoul I post this here?

Changing License Key In SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 64-bit

Apr 28, 2008

Hi,

I need to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition 64-bit running on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition 64-bit. Instead of installing it on every single machine I thought of installing it on one of them, updating it with all the necessary updates, creating a ghost image of the updated system and database and copying the image on all the other machines.
After doing it I however need to update both the system and SQL Server license keys. And there comes my question whether one can change the SQL Server license key after the installation??

Thanks in advance

Product Key For SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 Via Open License Agreement

Sep 28, 2007

Hi,

I have a customer, Customer who has purchased SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 via Open License Agreement. The product key is not available with the media.

I checked with eOpen team and confirmed that SQL 2005 does not require product key or Volume License Key for installation.

however, according to the VKB article 331355 titled "eOpen License Web Site" under "Exceptions" it is mentioned as:

SQL Server: The product key is distributed with the media. If the customer did not get a product key with the media, refer them to their reseller. The product key is hidden between two shrink-wrapped CDs.

Need your clarification on this,

How should we provide the key to the customer.

Thanks,
Jagdeep

Stuck With A SQL2005 Installation

Aug 7, 2007

Hi there guys I am hitting my head against a brick wall trying to install SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 side by side and wonder if someone has a suggestion that may help please.

My operating system is win xp 32 bit, I have recently purchased this machine and it came with office 2007 already pre installed which comes with a named instance version of sql 2005 business contact manager, I then installed a default instance of sql 2000 (with SP 4)client tools and the server with no problem , I then purchased a cd of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (32-Bit)for me to install to run alongside the 2000 version that is currently running on the same machine when all hell broke loose.

I selected the option saying install server components, tools , books online etc etc.

I agree to the licence agreement

Setup then installs Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup support Files succesfully, I press next...

Welcome to the Microsoft SQL Server installation wizard then comes up, I press next

System Configuration check brings back 14 successsful status messages and one warning message namely Edition Change Check warning
saying :

quote:Edition Change Check (Warning)
Messages
Edition Change Check

To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.

I ignore above and press Next..

It then comes up with registration information which i succesfully complete, pressing Next

I then select all the components to install and press next

I then set it up to be a named instance 'MSSQL2005DATA', fine >> pressed next

Then I set it up to run under the local system account , fine. >> pressed next.

Then using windows authentication mode pressed next >>

Left collation settings as per default pressed next >>

Install the default configuration in the report server installation options message box, I pressed next >> which then comes up with the following message :

(SQL Server Setup failed to obtain system account information for the ASPNET account. To proceed, reinstall the .net framework and then run SQL server Setup again)

i don't have a copy of the .net framework so I select the install but do not configure the server option.

Setup then comes up with Ready to install message box which i then press the install button, which shows the following:

Setup Progress Files Status:
SQL SETUP Support Setup Finished

OWC11 Setup failed, Refer to log

coming up with a error:

ERROR 1706 Setup cannot find the required files,Check your connection to the network, or cd rom, For other potential solutions to this problem, see c:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice111033Setup.chm

I then press ok

and the setup progress fails to install :

OWC11
SQL SErver Database Services
Analysis Services
Reporting Services
Notification Services
Integration Services
Workstation Components

but I can't view any of these log files the only one that is available to view is sqlsetup0014_PCName_OWC11_1.log which comes up with the same message

SQL2005 Trial To Standard Edition

May 8, 2008

I have downloaded Microsoft SQL 2005 trial and now have this running perfectly with our main database. Before I did this I checked to make sure that you could indeed unlock trial with a valid number, and the MSDN site said yes it can be done. I have now purchased the full Standard edition, and wish to enter the product key into the trial version to unlock. How do I do this ???. I have spent 3 hours on the phone today with over 11 different departments, and they all give me conflicting info. Eopen say it cant be done and that I have to uninstall the trial, and then completely re-install STD edition (I DEFINATELY DONT WANT THIS !!!!)

They put me to tech support who say it can be done, but I have to pay for this information ...Excuse me but I yesterday paid over £4000 for the software and now they wont help me unless I pay for support !!!!! http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx says it is an acceptable upgrade path but dont say how to do it. .

Eopen say this is not true !!!

How do I unlock SQL 2005 Trial version and down grade it it to a full blown STD version with my licence number I have. Can someone please tell me how this can be done.

If anyone knows, can they please email me at rob.wheeler@ehbp.com with instructions.

Thanks,

I am attempting to install the SQL Enterprise Edition and am not having any luck.
The error I am getting is that SQL 7 is already installed. My question is do I
have to uninstall the SQL Standard edition and reinstall the SQL Enterprise Edition
or is there a way that I am missing that will save me some time and effort. I am not finding anything in BOL
and the readme files don't address the change from 7 standard to 7 enterprise only from 6.5 to 7.0.

SQL Edition Types/installation Options Vs DB Needs

Oct 3, 2005

Another strange situation (strange situations seem to develop when non-IT people plan anything IT):

So I'm supposed to develop and administer a SQL DB, BUT I can't consult our IT department about it because they were originally supposed to help with the development/administration via a project to do so, but over a 6 month period managed to not do a thing to get it going.

I have to find a way to develop/run/administer a 170mil+ record data warehouse/20 gigs without consulting IT except to get the software and procure server space. Only problem is, the only way to get server space is to create an IT project.

How large of a DB can I run from a local workstation? Say if I only am going to run Personal edition, so I don't have to load the DB on a Win Server box? We have a local box we can run it on. Still, we're going to have to procure a copy of SQL personal edition. Have to go through IT for that too. lol

I think this would be the only way to totally circumnavigate IT on this size of a DB.

Any thoughts?

While installing SQL server 2005 Express edition following message is encountered every time I have tried. My system(PC) meets all the pre-requisites.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

setup.exe - Unable to Locate Component.

"This application has failed to start because XOLEHLP.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

Failed to load SqlSpars.dll
------------------------------

I had tried to install lot of time. Also I had followed all the steps to manually uninstall the software. And again tried to install it.
Still I am getting same error message.

Am I installing correct installatoin file????

or something else is required to be installed/configured as pre-requisites.
