SSIS SCD Type I, Dim Table Compound Key Selection For Business Key

Hai,
I have been working in DW for a while, but using SSIS as an ETL tool is new for me. I worked extensively on Informatica.
Coming to my question, right now I am trying to do SCD type 1. But my dimension table has a compound key. i.e more than 1 column makes a key for the table. But SCD wizard allows to select only 1 attribute as a business key. Does any one have any suggestions on how to implement SCD if the target table has compound key.

Does anyone know if there is a way to dynamically set the chart type (i.e. pie, line, column, etc.) for your report in SSRS? I want the customer to be able to chose which type of chart they'd like to see.
I've looked all over the Internet and can't find anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

I guess I should clarify a little. I am using an ASP.NET 2.0 page written in C# and using a ReportViewer control.

The ReportViewer displays an rdlc.

I am having data where there are empty string in the business keys which should be used for Slowly changing dimesnion type 2, how do i over come this as due to empty strings i am getting new rows even though the rows havent really changed.
example of data is name and salary are business keys
name salary age address
dev 23 klddldldlk
sdfg 24 34 kdlddlkd
when the same is given as input the row
dev 23 klddldldlk
is coming as anew row where it already exists how do i over come this

I have installed sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 on windows server 2003. When I select business intelligence studio from sql server, visual studio editor opens up,but i cannot find business intelligence projects template in visual studio. Please suggest some solution or workaround.

Hi Folks,
My situation is that Excel files are to be downloaded into a SQL Server 2005 table (perhaps as type image or nvarchar), which serves as a document repository. From there, they should be converted to XML. Use of an NT file directory is strongly discouraged. I would like to have SSIS read the Excel from one field in a table and then write the XML into another field in the same (or perhaps another) table. Is this possible? If not, is the a strait-forward way to do this?
Also, I€™m hoping to invoke the SSIS script from a SQL Server INSERT trigger so the conversion is done during the INSERT.

Now i have master Table for a device Utility. There is a attribute called "Device Type " in the table. Every Device Type has specific Device Attributes associate with it . Now attribute of Diffrent Device type are stored in Different Tables. Now when i select a particular value of Device Type ( lets say Type 1 or TYPE 2 ... ) then the table with has the attribute associated with particuter device type only has to be selected .
So how can I do this ???

Hi All,
I'm pretty new to SQL Server 2005 and I'm wondering how to organize my
business rules efficiently.
I'm willing to create a Package with several Data Flow Task in my
Control Flow, each Business Rule will be encapsulated in a Data Flow
task. I guess this is possible in SSIS but I can't find how my data can
be send from one data flow to another one. I definitly don't want my
dataset to be parsed completly for each business rule.
Does anyone have an idea how to implement this in SSIS?

Similar to the BizTalk Business Rules engine does the SSIS provide any support for independent business rule management?
I would guess that through the use of Embedded CLR we can invoke the Business rules stored in the Business Rules Engine (either Biztalk Rule Engine or ILOG Rule Engine). Is there a construct in the SSIS similar to the BizTalk Call Rules Construct in the Biztalk Orchestration.
If this mechanism is not the preferred mechanism then are there any other mechanisms offered by SSIS which facilitate the use of Business Rule Engine Components within SSIS which make it easier to manage the business rules outside of the deployment.

Hi,
We are planning to use the BTS BRE for our business rules and calling these from a data flow transformation (e.g. for every row in a flat file during import). One way would be to use a script component.
However, the question is that the script component would have to create and destroy BRE objects (e.g. a BRE Policy object) for every row in the flat file.
Is there a way to instantiate objects and whole on to them for the lifetime of the package or a container within a package?
Any suggestions regarding achieving the above most efficiently would be much appreciated.

Does anyone have a successful prescribed sequence for installing VS2005 and Business Intelligence Reports Projects on a Vista Business workstation to be used to create reports for a server?
I've looked through everything I can find here and I don't seem to see a clear solution without a lot of trial and error.
Fact is, I've not been successful getting just the reports to install on a plain XP box. Of course, the report creation looks fine on the server but I don't want to work directly on the server.

Can anyone take me through synchronization of contacts within Business Contacts Outlook into Microsoft Small Business Accounts?
I run a stand alone PC with NO network. When SBA came SQL was also installed. Apparently you can synchronise Contacts within Business Contacts with SBA but both SBA & Outlook should work through the same SQL server.
Has anyone tried this?
Can someone walk me through the process?

I like to define my procedure parameter type to match a referenced table colum type,
similar to PL/SQL "table.column%type" notation.
That way, when the table column is changes, I would not have to change my stored proc.

I have a simple package in SSIS that reads approx 2.5million rows from SQL2k5 source and exports it into 4 Foxpro files.
The way I do it is as below
1) use and oledb source to read data from SQL2k5
2) use a conditional split component to divide the source into 4 streams ( I do a recId % 4 = 0, 1, 2, 3 to give 4 streams)
3) use an OLEDB destination to export to the 4 prexisting foxpro tables.
This thing runs amazingly fast when I run(F5) it from Business Inteligence studio, but it is atleast 10 times slower when rightclick the package and execute using dtexec.exe
I can't figure out why! any clues??
I would elimiate the 64 bit /32 bit problems because export to foxpro only works in 32 bit mode and my package has been configured to run in 32 bit mode.

I created a package but someone else will be running it every day. When this person opens the project in Business Intelligence Studio they get build errors such as the following:
Error loading PackageName: Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state."
You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available.
this problem is described in the article below however the only advice they offer is to "change the value of the ProtectionLevel property " however they don't specify what to change the value to. I have tried every option but it still does not work. And having them enter in a password every time is out of the question.

It seems there is no way for someone other than the package owner to run the package! Running them from the sql server is not an option since we don't have permission to do so. As far as I know BIS is the only way.

I have two tables on a reports, each having it's own dataset.
I want to set the visibility of the table depending on the filter selection.
So if the user selects: show open then show only the table with the open dataset.
I don't now how to this using the expression in the visibility expression.

1)PATIENT(PATIENT_ID,NAME,CITY)
2) DISEASES(DISEASE_ID,NAME)
I am trying to select patient table as case and diseases table as nested to create an association model. i m getting following error.
Disease table cannot be used as a nested table because it does not have a many-to-one relationship with the case table. You need to create a many-to-one relationship between the two tables in the data source file.
i have created a relationship by dragging Disease_id from diseases table on Patient_id in patient table. when i am trying to select Patient_id as key, City as input, it is not showing disease_id to choose as a predict column.
please suggest me if i am doing anything wrong? i have not done any thing to do my datbase, just selected the tables i want to create an association model on and trying to create association model.

I am trying to make up a SQL string which will be executed with the Exec command
I want to add a return column that is not in the table, and the table columns:
something like
Select @Ten As Ten, @Tablename.* From @Tablename (
where @Ten has an integer value. )
The statement was originally:
select @SQL = 'select * from ' + @TempName
exec (@SQL)
which had no problem. Then I needed to add an extra column of static data to all the returned rows, and confusion !!!!!

BEGINNER QUESTIONI have a table which has a compound primary key consisting of two columns.One of these columns is a foreign key which is generated in another table byan identity.I want to be able to generate the other primary key column valueautomatically when an insert occurs but assume that I cannot use an identitybecause it would have to be unique for this table.There will be potentially more than one user accessing this table so I wantto avoid generating the key on the client side.How can I do this? I'd like to hide/show a table based on selected parameters. In the current setup I have a matrix and two tables underneath that need to be displayed from time to time. First of I use a multi-value parameter called "Lieferart". Depending on the parameter I have set the visibility of the two tables with the following expression:
=iif(Parameters!lieferart.Value(0) like "Nagel%", False, True)
This expression doesn't work though, any ideas??? I am also unsure about what I have to do If multiple values from the parameter list are selected as Parameters!lieferart.value(0) doesn't necessarily need to have a label like "Nagel" included...

We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Looking to create a query, as simple as possible, that allows me to compound returns on a rolling daily basis. So far this this have I have:

The problem is with this column:
(lag(daily_return, 1, 0) over (order by date1) + 1) * (daily_return + 1) - 1 as Compound_return
The (daily_return + 1) portion should be the accumulated compound return. So it should be something like
(lag(ACCUMULATED_COMPOUND RETURN, 1, 0) over (order by date1) + 1) * (daily_return + 1) - 1 as Compound_return
And the output should be:

Hi
I have a sql 2000 db which has a table that has a compound key, the problem is that I would like to create a Full Text Catalog for this table. However I noticed that i need a single primary key... but I dont have one.
I created another field on my table called "ftcID" as an int with identity set to Yes
However when I try and create a catalog it doesnt detect that this field is unique.
Does my unique field have to be a Primary Key, I cant remove the compound primary key as it will break my application.
Any help would be much appreciated

I have an ordering database with several tables that store data of orders belonging to a wide variety of clients. There is a generic report that I need to run which outputs the same data elements. However the criteria to select these orders will vary widely between each client. For e.g.
i) for client# 1 it could be all orders that are still open after 30 days of placing an order
(
OrderStatus = 'Open'
AND
GetDate() - OrderCreationDate >= 30
)
ii) for client# 2 it could be all orders that have been completed 60 days or earlier
(
OrderStatus = 'Completed'
AND
GetDate() - OrderCompletedDate >= 60
)
iii) for client# 3 it could be a combination of different things (all orders in West Region that are in hold status for more than 10 days + all orders in Eastern Region that are in shipping and are expected to be delivered in the next 2 days + all completed orders for the rest of the regions).

I want to have a stored procedure that selects all data and dynamically attach the where condition at the end for filtering. This way I wouldn't have to worry about any additions/changes that are made to the selection criteria. I can build an interface for admins who can use the UI to maintain the selection criteria and not worry about any code changes to accommodate it. I would like to design a table that holds this criteria. At this point in time, I am thinking of using key value pairs (Column Name, Column Value) but I am not sure how to implement multiple logical operators.

Hi all,
I've had this problem for a while now and I'm looking for a better solution.
I'm pulling through a dataset from a SQL Server 2005 database and populating it into a DataGridView. The end user updates information on the grid and I then want to updates the results in the SQL Server table. My table has a compound primary key made up of two fields.
I'm currently looping through the data grid and for each value identified to update I'm executing a stored procedure that takes the two fields as parameters. However I know that this method isn't very efficient, especially if the user wants to update a few hundred records as it will execute the stored procedure a few hundred times.
Is there a way I can pass the two parameters in an ArrayList or something like that? I need SQL Server to be able to take the parameter. Is XML the way to go or is there any additional support in the .NET framework for such problems?
