Remote Website Accessing SQL DB Tbl Nfo - Ideas?

Aug 7, 2005

I have a MS SQL 2000 db. It cannot be remotely accessed by other websites or by another MS SQL db (I have tried everything to make it do so).

I am trying to figure out how I can use the data I have in a table to populate an asp page on another server/website not related to mine.

I was told an XML page and using a JS script I could make the remote site read from my db. Not knowing XML, I am not sure if this is the correct way of trying to populate an asp page with data from my MS SQL table on my server to a webpage on another server.

I do not want to give this person a connection script, or any kind of potential access to my db, but I do want the pages I develop for him to retrieve data I have in a certain table on my db without having to create a whole new db on his site. I want to control the content, add more content to both his and my website at the same time, so one table would be my best bet if I can get his site connected to my db table.

These will not be read/write pages at all, just read only. They will not be "search" pages either, just data populated on a page from my db table.

Is this possible? Ideas, thoughts, and suggestions welcome. Thank you.

I'm a newbie with SQL Server Reporting Services. I've played around with creating reports and I'm now ready to move on with calling reports from my C# .Net website. Does anyone know of a good tutorial to get me started? I'm specifically interested in building the SQL string on the fly using responses from the my website user and then using that string to populate the report. Thanks!

Slow Performance When Accessing Database

Feb 28, 2007

I am developing a mobile 5.0 application. I use mobile Sql as the database in the pda.

In the program, i use dataset.xsd to create the table and tableAdapter, but the performance is very slow for just access the data from the database. It takes about 4200ms for just

this.userAdapter = new PDA_USERTableAdapter();
MBDB2DataSet.PDA_USERDataTable ut = userAdapter.GetUser();

the "new PDA_USERTableAdapter()" is very fast.But...

The userAdapter.GetUser() will only return about 20 rows, each rows only contains 5 field .But it cost 4200 ms for this line.

The sql statement in userAdapter.GetUser() is

SELECT User, PASSWORD, TYPE, USER_ID, Supervisor_ID
FROM PDA_USER
WHERE (TYPE = 5)
ORDER BY User

Please Help, Urgent!!!!!

p.s (The total rows in the PDA_USER table is only 30 rows)

Connection To Sql Server Being Lost After A Period Of Inactivity

Oct 17, 2007

I updated my SQL Server 2005 db server with Windows 2003 SP2 and other windows updates and now other applications are loosing their connections to the SQL server after a period of inactivity.

The ERP software and MSSS Managment Studio loose their connections if the connection sits idle for a couple of hours. When in Management Studio I get the following error:
Msg 10054, Level 20, State 0, Line 0 A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)....

Has anyone seen this? Do I need to add SP1 for MS SQL 2005?

Thanks-Dave

Reporting Services :: SSRS Loses Ability To Delegate User Credentials To Database Time To Time?

Apr 30, 2015

we have problems with our SQL Reporting Service 2012 (SSRS) server . We have setup Kerberos delegation between SSRS and the database server (SQL Server Always-on cluster) so users are authenticated down to the database. The issue occurs from time to time that SSRS loses the ability to delegate the user credentials to the database. At this point in time the Report Server logs contain rejected database connections because of ANONYMOUS logon. After restarting SSRS the problem is gone.

SSRS Slow Waking Up On First Report

Jan 8, 2007

Greetings,

I continue to see this similar post all over the place, but no resolutions.

We have SSRS installed and operational in production. There are reports that get accessed from either an aspx page or from the built in IIS site for SSRS.

First time access is the performance problem. Here are two scenarios:

1) from your browser, pull up the front page to SSRS: http://myserver/reports. This simple operation will take about 2 minutes to come up. Drill to the report in question and it runs fairly well first time through. Throw a different query at it and it runs faster. If you wait a while (maybe 15 minutes +) the whole thing will spin back down and take 2 minutes to come up again. If you exit the website and come back immediately, everything still stays quick.

2) from an aspx page, same thing... if the service is spun down, the end user will typically get tired of waiting or timeout. Once everything is spun up, the process runs fine.

We setup another report that just does some simple statistics and added in a timed subscription for every 15 minutes hoping it would keep the service up and running.... no joy. Still the same.

Also adjusted the app pool to about every option to see if we could keep it running, but no joy.

====

So -- any ideas? Forget about running a report.... just think about pulling the website up. 2 minutes to get it to display in the browser the first time...

arghhhhhh

Thanks in advanced.

Accessing A Report (SSRS 2005) Using PHP And ReportExecution2005.asmx?wsdl

Jan 16, 2008

Hi,

I am using PHP5 and SSRS 2005 to execute a report via ReportExecution2005.asmx?wsdl (using PHP's SOAP functions). I keep getting the error:

"Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.MissingSessionIdException: The session identifier is missing. A session identifier is required for this operation."

I know what the SessionID after successfully calling the LoadReport method (ExecutionID in the ExecutionHeader) but cannot seem to pass this along to the Render method. Does anyone know how to pass that along?

This is similiar in issue to the post at http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2643092&SiteID=17 but for PHP instead of Java.

Thanks!

Accessing A Report (SSRS 2005) From A Java Client Built With Jax-ws 2.0

Nov 30, 2007

Hi,

Based on jax-ws 2.0 technology, I built a java client application to access a report via the web service interface of the SQL Server Reporting Services 2005.

I used the jax-ws "wsimport" tool to generate the java classes needed to call the web services (The class generation is based on the wsdl and I used this one http://serverName/reportserver/reportexecution2005.asmx?wsdl) and wrote the following sample code :

ReportExecutionService service = new ReportExecutionService();
ReportExecutionServiceSoap rs = service.getReportExecutionServiceSoap();

String reportPath = "HelloWorld";

String format = "MHTML";
String devInfo = "<DeviceInfo><Toolbar>False</Toolbar></DeviceInfo>";
Holder<byte[]> result = new Holder<byte[]>();
Holder<String> extension = new Holder<String>();
Holder<String> mimeType = new Holder<String>();
Holder<String> encoding = new Holder<String>();
Holder<ArrayOfWarning> warnings = new Holder<ArrayOfWarning>();
Holder<ArrayOfString> streamIDs = new Holder<ArrayOfString>();

try {

ExecutionInfo execInfo = rs.loadReport(reportPath, null);
rs.render(format, devInfo, result, extension, mimeType, encoding, warnings, streamIDs);

}
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println( e );

}

The trouble is that an exception is caught on the call to the render method

javax.xml.ws.soap.SOAPFaultException: The session identifier is missing. A session identifier is required for this operation. ---> The session identifier is missing. A session identifier is required for this operation.
I found on the web (in C# examples) that this SessionId is supposed to be contained in the ExecutionId attribute of an

ExecutionHeader object. The ReportExecutionServiceSoap class (my rs object in the example) does not offer any way to directly set this SessionId or to associate an ExceptionHeader before calling the render method.

Have you ever tried - and managed - to do it.

Many thanks

Temptable Access Time SLOW

Jan 26, 2000

I have a stored procedure which creates 3 temporary tables. Every table is about ten rows and 25 columns. The inserts in the tables goes fast (< 30 ms). The selects from them is also that fast. BUT the first select takes about 3200 ms one each of the temptables. (I first do insert, then select from them.) So the SP executes at about 13 seconds instead of 3.

Any suggestions, anyone, please?

SQL Server Very Slow For 10 Minutes At A Time

Oct 27, 1998

We have an application that has about 100 users at a time. Roughly once a day, we experience a complete
slowdown on the server. All users notice it. The network seems fine because I can ping the server. Also,
I can attach to drives on the server quite fast so I don`t think it`s server resources. When I manage to
get in and do an sp_who, certain processes are blocking others. Talking to the users who were blocking,
they were not doing anything out of the ordinary - one was even doing just a select. The error log is full
of 17824 and 1608 errors. Is there some configuration setting that I should change? This is getting serious!

Thank you.

Slow Excecution Time Using TOP X Statement

Jun 11, 2007

Hi, I have a query which returns normally in less than a couple of seconds. When coupled with a "TOP" statement however, the execution time changes in a way I can't explain.

When using "TOP 1000", the query returns in its normal time. Any top value greater than 10 seems to function normally. However, as soon as we hit this "magic number" the query begins taking 30+ seconds to return.

As far as we can see, there is nothing odd about this query or the data that it is searching, and this problem has us stumped! Can anyone explain why top is producing these results, and is there any optomisation changes that anyone can suggest to give us faster queries in these cases?

Many thanks, Andy J.

SSRS Report Time Vs SP Time

May 9, 2008

I have a very basic report, pretty much just spits out the results from a storage proceedure. When I just run the stored proceed it takes about 36 seconds to run, and returns 532K records. When i run the report it takes a little over three minutes. The SQL Reporting server is on a seperate box, but its database resides on the same system as the database in which i am reporting up against. Any thoughts on what I could do to improve speeds on the reporting side I would appreciate it. Running SQL 2005 SP2, the report just takes in a date for a parameter and spits out financial holdings for that particular day.

Database Is Slow To Access After Being Idle For Some Time

Feb 10, 2007

I've noticed that after the database have been idle for some time, it takes up to 10 seconds to get it started when something needs to access it. In the event viewer it says that the database <name> have been started.

Obviously, there is some idle timeout setting.

I saw an option in the database properties that is called "Auto Close" which is set to true. I assume this is what i'm looking for. Can someone confirm that? (it could take some time to test myself...)

But what i'm actually wondering is:

1. Is it possible to adjust how long it would wait before timing out?
2. What advantages does closing the database bring? Does it free up (a noticeable amount of) ressources? Or is it only that it's unlocking the files, so that it's possible to copy the database source files?

The following question might sound a bit stupid but I'm not a database expert so hopefully nobody minds me asking it.

Here's what I did:

1. I created an SSIS package that is supposed to import new data into my data warehouse as it becomes available.

2. Since I need to maintain some of the history I use the Slow Moving Dimensions part (set the history flag on input fields) but run into an error condition while running the package. The message basically says that I'm about to create a duplicate record which is not allowed.

Original Table1:

PK1 field1
PK2 field2
PK3 field3
field4
field5

-----------

Now I enhanced it like this:

Extended Table1:

PK1 field1
PK2 field2
PK3 field3
field4
field5

CreateDate (new)
NewDate (new)
ActiveFlag (new)
_____________________

Now on some records the package is supposed to archive history by populating the (new) fields. In order to keep the record unique (primary key constraint) thought, do I need to make the (new) fields primary keys as well?

So I guess I'm struggling with a more basic concept;)

I would appreciate if somebody could shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance.
Dirk

Newbie: Slow Response Time Querying Systemjobhistory

Apr 29, 2008

Hi,

I have a problem with querying systemjobhistory data. Response time is slow and it is vary from time to time, sometime it takes few seconds and sometime it takes more than 2 minutes. I understand that there is quite a number of jobs in DB server and which might result in slow response time.

Is it possible to shorten the response time? like using index? My application is always look like hang when the query take very long time to run.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Slow Respons Time From Reporting Service Over Sharepoint

Jan 29, 2007

I am running SQL 2005 reporting services on a windows 2003 machine with SharePoint over SSL

My reporting services web directories are virtual directories under the SharePoint website.

I am having a problem with loading https://sharepoint.mysite.com/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

When you first open IE and bring up the page it takes about 30 seconds to load. Once you have connected via any machine, all other machines can connect at normal speed 1-2 seconds. All testing is being done on our LAN so there is no bandwidth issues when opening the pages.

My guess is that something is going into a sleep mode, but I am not sure where that would be set.

Thanks for any suggestions

Robert

Web Application That Deals With Slow/time Consuming Database Processes

Dec 19, 2007

Hello All,
I’m looking for a solution to timeouts that occur when I’m executing a stored procedure from my web application. Most of the SPs will run from 3 to 15 minutes, and, unfortunately, modifying/optimizing them isn’t an option at the moment. I tried setting the CommandTimeout to 0 with no luck. Unless, I didn’t use it properly. Here’s my code:  1
2 try
3 {
4 string dbConn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConStringNTMTLDEV"].ToString();
5 OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(dbConn);
6
7 lbl_SearchResult.Text = dbConn;
8
9 //OleDbDataAdapter adapter = new OleDbDataAdapter();
10 OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand("SP_CallHistoryLookUp", connection);
11 cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
12
13 cmd.Parameters.Add(new OleDbParameter("@phoneNumber", "1234567890"));
14 cmd.Parameters.Add(new OleDbParameter("@email", "123@123.com"));
15 cmd.Parameters.Add(new OleDbParameter("@WebUser", "123"));
16 connection.Open();
17 cmd.CommandTimeout = 0;
18 cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
19 cmd.Dispose();
20 connection.Close();
21 }catch(OleDbException ex)
22 {
23 lbl_SearchResult.Text += "&lt;br/> Something went wrong </br>";
24 lbl_SearchResult.Text += ex.Message.ToString();
25 }
26
27
28
  Is it possible to launch a stored procedure and close the connection without waiting for a result?Would the stored procedure still run on the SQL server? I’m using MSSQL 7. Would you have any examples that would solve this problem? Thank you for your help.
R.
