I have spent the afternoon researching this, and to no avail so here's my question.
I have a user input form with upwards of 60 fields that are to be filled in by the user (intranet environment). I want to post those values as a new record in an SQL database. I have setup an SQLDataAdapter tied to a parameterized stored procedure on the SQL server. I can successfully post data from the controls on the form when I set the parameter type to Control based.
Here's the problem, though. I need to do some pre-processing on most of the values in the controls on the form. I have setup VB code (that executes when the user clicks the "Submit" button), that pulls in each control value, performs any necessary processing, and sets a variable to the value I actually want stored in the DB. How can I assign THAT value (from the variable) to the parameter for the stored procedure?
Hi, i am using vs2005 and microsoft SQL server mobile edition (.NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server CE) to develop an application for wm5.0 pocket pc in language C# and now, i'm facing a problem on how to insert a new data into .sdf file with TableAdapter?example, i have a combo box and a button (known as AddButton) on my form1.cs, when i click the button, all the data from combo box will automatic insert into a database. How to write the codes for this? i tried for a few methods to wrote it and it seems do not work.Does anybody know how to write it?Thank you.
i created a query to insert a row in DataSet in Visual Studio 2005. i gave the method name to the query i created. as i understood it returns '1' if successful or '0' if not.
hi, i am trying to insert my values into the database, however the code i have doesnt seem to work. i have looked at old posts, one suggested to take away my code behind code where the insert method has been written. i did try this but it does not seem to work, can some please help me sort out this problem and advice or examples of what i need to do will be very much appreciated, thank you. the following is the code i have code behind code 'Save vlues into database. If IsPostBack = False ThenDim test As SqlDataSource = New SqlDataSource() test.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ConnectionString").ToString() test.InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO [UserQuiz] ([QuizID], [DateTimeComplete], [CorrectAnswerCount], [UserName]) VALUES (@QuizID, @DateTimeComplete, @CorrectAnswerCount, @UserName)"test.InsertParameters.Add("QuizID", Session("QuizID").ToString()) test.InsertParameters.Add("DateTimeComplete", DateTime.Now.ToString())test.InsertParameters.Add("CorrectAnswerCount", "12")test.InsertParameters.Add("UserName", User.Identity.Name) test.Insert() End If
when i run the program i get this error Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'UserQuizID', table 'C:VISUAL STUDIO 2008WEBSITESquizAPP_DATAQUIZ.MDF.dbo.UserQuiz'; column does not allow nulls. Anyone know if there is method that can insert all record from a tablein an MS Access 2000 database to a table in MS SQL Server 2000database by a SQL statement? (Therefore, I can execute the statementin my program)--Posted via http://dbforums.com
Hi, I was wondering if there is a method (other than BULK INSERT) to insert a (C++) application level array into the database, I have a variant type array populated with values that I want to insert, perhaps using ADO objects in quick time!
Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. The functionless code is here:http://forums.asp.net/thread/1437716.aspx I cannot find any answer this problem on forums worldwide. I cannot believe it is only my problem. I compared html code of two generated pages - with maserPage and without. There are differentions in code in ids' of input fields generated by NET.Framework:Without masterpage:<input name="NazevBox" type="text" id="NazevBox" /><span id="RequiredFieldValidator1" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a company name.</span><p><input name="CodeBox" type="text" id="CodeBox" /><span id="RequiredFieldValidator2" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a phone number.</span><p><input type="submit" name="Button1" value="Insert New Shipper" onclick="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("Button1", "", true, "", "", false, false))" id="Button1" /> With masterpage:<input name="ctl00$Obsah$NazevBox" type="text" id="ctl00_Obsah_NazevBox" /><span id="ctl00_Obsah_RequiredFieldValidator1" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a company name.</span><p><input name="ctl00$Obsah$CodeBox" type="text" id="ctl00_Obsah_CodeBox" /><span id="ctl00_Obsah_RequiredFieldValidator2" style='color:Red;visibility:hidden;'>Please enter a phone number.</span><p><input type="submit" name="ctl00$Obsah$Button1" value="Insert New Shipper" onclick="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("ctl00$Obsah$Button1", "", true, "", "", false, false))" id="ctl00_Obsah_Button1" />In second case ids' of input fields have different names, but I hope it is inner business of NET.Framework.There must be something I haven't noticed, maybe NET's bug, maybe my own. Thanks for any suggestion.
I have a database which will be generated via script. However there are some tables with default data that need to exist on the database.I was wondering if there could be a program that could generate inserts statments for the data in a table.I know about the import / export program that comes with SQL but it doesnt have an interface that lets you copy the insert script and values into an SQL file (or does it?)
I'm an absolute beginner in asp/asp.net. You have been warned. I managed to run and compile asp.net using win xp home edition, via Visual Web builder 2005 express edition. I managed to use its tools to create a test database and table and put values in it. Now I wish to connect to this db using my aspx page. While fiddling around I finally able to drag the "table" icon on the database pane into my aspx page and it generate a code snippet below: <div> <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" EmptyDataText="There are no data records to display."> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="US_ID" HeaderText="User id" SortExpression="US_ID" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="US_NAME" HeaderText="USer Name" SortExpression="US_NAME" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:nepConnectionString1 %>" ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:nepConnectionString1.ProviderName %>" SelectCommand="SELECT [US_ID], [US_NAME] FROM [USER]"> </asp:SqlDataSource> </div> When previewed in the browser, it seems to show the content of the db table. What I want to know is a sample coding on how to connect to the db the usual way (initialise the connection string, prepare and execute the query, fetch the content of resultset). Based on the code snippets above (it contains the info about the db name, table name and the column name I'm using), can anyone guide me by providing the lines of codes that retrieve the data? Basically the first thing I would like to do is fetching the data to be compared with user name and password submission after they click on login, among other basic stuff, which doesn't require bells and whistles like <gridviews> and other contraptions provided. And another thing, would the connection string or other parameters be any different from my computer if I were to upload my aspx page including the mssql db file into my webhosting to be tested live? Thanks for anyone out there willing to provide some hand-holding here!
Hi, What is the simplest way to crash a sql server? Somebody asked me that question, and I was unable to give the best answer. Please help me to find it. Thanks!! Joydeep
i need to retrieve column names in a rowset, let me explain a bit;
i can simply retrieve a column name by using IColumnsInfo::GetColumsInfo, but the problem is when i use "AS" keyword in the select statement such like;
SELECT identification AS id FROM test_table_a
i see alias name of that column instead the internal column name.
as you can guess the qestion is; how can i get both alias and internal name at the same time and of course what is the *usual* way to get it.
I am interested in what the simplest was to get a query result that will only ever have one result (ie One column, one row) into a variable. An ugly way is to use a cursor that simply fetches the first row but that seems to be a horrible way to do it and it has sometimes major drawbacks sometimes (mainly if I have to dynamically choose the table). Surely there is a better way?
What do you think? A simple example would be nice.
I am researching ideas for the best way to have users enter data into SQL.
I am familiar with VB and Access Forms and HTML coding but what I am looking for is a way to have a standalone app or website where users can enter information but I want the form to have branches that change depending on user input (such as selecting a meeting type then having specific questions open up related to it).
Any ideas on the best way to do this?
If a different forum would be better for this request please advise and I will move appropriately.
So I know that each employee should have 2 Type 1's and 4 Type 2's. I hope that makes sense, I'm trying to change my data because ours is very proprietary.
I need to identify employees who do not have all their stages and list the stages they are missing. The final report should only have employees and the associated missing types and stages.
I do a count by employee to see how many types they have to identify the ones that don't have all the types and stages.
My count would look something like this:
EmployeeNumber Type Total 100, 1, 2 100, 2, 2 200, 1, 1 200 1, 2
So I know that employee 100 should have 2 more Type 2's and employee 200 should have 1 more Type 1 and 2 more Type 2's based on the required list.
The problem I'm having is taking that required list and joining to my list of employees with missing data and pulling from it the types and stages that are missing by employee. I thought I could get a list of the employees that are missing information and right join it to the required list where the missing records would be nulls. But, that doesn't work because some employees do have the required information and so I'm not getting any nulls returned.
Hi,I am trying to write a method which needs to call a stored procedure and then needs to get the response of the stored procedure back to the variable i declared in the method. private string GetFromCode(string strWebVersionFromCode, string strWebVersionString) { //call stored procedure } strWebVersionFromCode = GetFromCode(strFromCode, "web_version"); // is the var which will store the response.how should I do this?Please assist.
Instance of SQL2K5-SP1 on Server2003R2. Created two databases Test1 and Test2, create single 2-column table (tblTest)in Test1 with one row of data. Create SSIS package to transfer the table and its data to database Test2 using "Transfer Objects Task". Fails with error code 1073548784.
I have tested for security issues and don't beleive these to be the cause: I have monster privelidges and can successfully use SSIS packages to execute CREATE TABLE etc.
Have also tried most combinations of Task options (eg COPY ALL OBjects etc etc)
Have tried this on three different servers: same results.
This simple test is the result of distilling down problems I'm having with SSIS manipulating some 60G within some 300 tables, so I'd really like to use the power this task promises!
My head is getting a little sore from scratching - any advice gratefully received.
Hi, I just have a Dataset with my tables and thats it I have a grid view with several datas on it no problem to get the data or insert but as soon as I try to delete or update some records the local machine through the same error Unable to find nongeneric method... I've try to create an Update query into my table adapters but still not working with this one Also, try to remove the original_{0} and got the same error... Please help if anyone has a solution
is this the best and fastest method to connect to a database for DataGrid databind?
--------- Dim MyConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("ConnectionStringSQL")) Dim MyCommand As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("sp_BuddiesPendingSelect1", MyConnection) MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure MyCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@UserID", intUserID))
MyConnection.Open() Dim dr As SqlDataReader = MyCommand.ExecuteReader()
DataList1.DataSource = dr DataList1.DataBind()
dr.Close() MyConnection.Close()
----------------------- or should i use a DataAdapter and fill a DataSet and then attach the DataSet to the DataGrid?
I have been using VB6 for a long time now and had no problems using ADODB.Recordset.I had a module to which I would send my recordset (byref) and the SQL command (byval) and use the resultant recordset for adding, modifying or deleting records.How can I do the same with VS2005? This is a major problem as there are dataadapters, grids, datareaders etc.Does someone have a simple method to get the recordset so that I can modify the record using the code (eg: .Addnew/.Delete/.Update) and Close the connection?Please note that I do not need to display anything and have to run 40/50 AddModDel for every click of the program.Any help is greately appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
If you not familiar with it, the <a href="http://www.stephenforte.net/owdasblog/permalink.aspx?guid=2b0532fc-4318-4ac0-a405-15d6d813eeb8">Rozenshtein Method</a> uses SQL to create a crosstab. The concept is a stroke of genius but I'm having trouble getting it to work on one of production databases.
I successfully used the Northwind example explained at Stephen Forte's site (see the link above)...but no luck on my real world problems.
I can get the date statements to resolve to 0 correctly, but when I try to aggregate the data - the statements are turning into 1 multiplying the aggregate data for each cell...which fills in the same data across the entire row.
For example (the columns represent the time period), GROUP T1 T2 T3 T4 group1 9 9 9 9 group2 3 3 3 3 group3 5 5 5 5
My sql code is: SELECT dbo.tblHassBatch.ProdLine, COUNT((dbo.tblHassUUT.UnitID)*(1-ABS(SIGN(datediff(dd,dbo.tblHassBatch.StartTime,ge tdate())-0)))) AS Today, COUNT((dbo.tblHassUUT.UnitID)*(1-ABS(SIGN(datediff(ww,dbo.tblHassBatch.StartTime,ge tdate())-0)))) AS [This Week], COUNT((dbo.tblHassUUT.UnitID)*(1-ABS(SIGN(datediff(mm,dbo.tblHassBatch.StartTime,ge tdate())-0)))) AS [This Month], COUNT((dbo.tblHassUUT.UnitID)*(1-ABS(SIGN(datediff(mm,dbo.tblHassBatch.StartTime,ge tdate())-1)))) AS [Last Month] FROM dbo.tblHassBatch INNER JOIN dbo.tblHassUUT ON dbo.tblHassBatch.BatchID = dbo.tblHassUUT.BatchID GROUP BY dbo.tblHassBatch.ProdLine
Am I overlooking something here? I'm pulling my hair out b/c if this works it's really going to provide a great solution for a project I'm working on...but I can't seem to figure it out.
I'm not really strong in SQL. My goal is to compare the beginning mileage of a vehicle record with it's previous ending mileage reading. I have something that works, but it feels clunky. I wonder if there is a better method, ie a join. Here's what I have:
SELECT A.Trolley_num, A.Date, A.Speedo_start, A.Speedo_end, (SELECT B.Speedo_end FROM Daily_Trolley AS B WHERE B.Trolley_num = A.Trolley_num AND B.Date = (SELECT Max(Date) FROM Daily_Trolley AS C WHERE C.Trolley_num = A.Trolley_num And C.Date < '1/23/2005')) AS PrevSpeedoEnd FROM Daily_Trolley AS A WHERE A.Date='1/23/2005'
ps: I inherited this db; I'm aware that "Date" should not have been used as a field name.
'TOP 1' or 'DISTINCT' or 'MAX' Any sugestions on which is better to use if I need to select a record that has the highest value - could be a INT or sometimes a DATETIME.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this following error in SQL 2005 When trying to create a maintenance plan, Method Not Found:'Void Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.DatabaseMaintenance.TaskUIYtils..ctro()' (Mircosoft.SqlServer.MaintenancePlanTasksUI)
Is there an efficient scripting method to update the connection string for ALL reports that reside on a reporting/web server? "(automating the process, rather than having to change the data source for each individual report that resides on that server)".
I have never used replication before and I have been asked to considerit in a project I am currently working on.I have created an application for a sales team which is loaded on theirmachines, it uses ms sql as its data source and connects via theinternet back to the central server in the office.Problem is this has shown to be too slow causing time out errormessages and so on. I have been told to research the possibility ofreplication, but am unclear what type of replication to use or where tostart.Any assistance would be appreciated.Regards,Ben
Hi,Given 2 tables:Table1:id Auto,int,PrimKeytable2id inttxt nvarchar50Table2:id Auto,int,PrimKeyorder intThe scenario: Table2.order defines how the table1.txt is should be ordered.Table1.table2id contains the id of the order. HiSQL Server 7.0 using stored procedures.I need to do a SELECT Top but I always need to find the record countfor the entire SELECT statement.ID Name-- ----1 Abraham20 Barrington32 Callaway54 Dennis58 EmmettIf I do a SELECT TOP 3, I'll get the required records but get arecordcount of 3.I cant use the ROWCOUNT method either becuase the recordcount willalso be 3.I can see two different options for getting back the information Ineed:1 - Run the select statement twice, first to retrieve the recordcountand then with top to get the recordset2 - Use a temp table to get the entire recordset and recordcount, andthen extract the Top N recordsI'd like to know if anyone has any other suggestions. Currently, I'mtempted to go for the second option....ThanksSam
