Hi, I'm trying to stress test my web application, but when I get high load, the queries that used to take 10-20 ms starts taking 500 - 2000+ ms. Or to put it another way, when i run them single threaded i can do about 43000 a minute, when they are run in paralell it drops to about 2500 a minute.
What can i do about this ?
There are severeal queries thats affected, but here is one example:
update [user] with (ROWLOCK XLOCK) set timestamp = getdate() where userid = 1''
btw: im running sql server 2005 sp 1. The stress test is run on 3 machines total (web, sql and client) the client is simulation 400 users, cliking a page as soon as the last one is loaded, ie there will always be 400 page requests.
do i need to use specially synchronized code if i have multiple threads inserting, updating and reading rows to and from the same database?? in this case, i know that no 2 threads will try to insert or update the exact same row into the DB, however, multiple threads might try to read the same row from the database.
Our company is in the retail business, thus, the window for processing cubes is very small during Christmas season (only 4 hours each day).
To speed things up, we have partitioned our cube at monthly level so, potentially, 12 threads can be run simultantsly. However, when I looked at DTS, I am not so sure whether or how it can accomplish that task. Has anyone tried this before or is aware of another third party tool can do the trick?
I have been asked by developers if there is any advantage in processing multiple clustering models simultaneously by using AMO and multiple threads as against processing one after another.
I have limited experience with Analysis Services but based on my reading I don't see this method providing any advantage.

I found a peculiar thing today while working with SQL Mobile in a multithreaded application (VS2005, application for Pocket PC 2003).
I created a class which has one SqlCeConnection object. Every time I call a function to insert/select/delete something from the local db, I open the connection, execute the query an then close the connection again.
But when I'm calling a function from the db class in thread 1 and in the meantime call a different function (from the same db class of course) in thread 2, things go wrong. Because when function 1 wants to close the connection, function 2 is still using the connection and it will crash my application with a native exception (0xC0000005: access violation).
I can see why the error is happening, but shouldn't there be a nice .NET handled exception instead of a native exception which grinds my app to a hold?
(A workaround I use now is to use multiple connection objects instead of one, but I thought I'd give this feedback anyway)
I am searching for some information on achieving performance improvement by spawning multiple threads in single Stored procedure or rather say within Single Database connection. We have a batch process that updates around 200 tables and each table update takes around 2 mnts. I am trying to optimize this by running these updates in parallel rather than sequential. These all tables are mutually exclusive. I have written a stored procedure which updates these tables in loop. Concern is that every update statement waits for other to get over. I am calling this Sp from Java application. One crude way will be opening multiple connections to database each running separate T-SQL statement. It comes with lot of overhead in opening connections .Is there any way I can force explicitly in T-SQL stored procedure to spawn a new thread for every Update statement. In case I try to do same process from a Java connection.. is there a way I can open multiple threads for each statement under same database connection.
we are queirying an stored procedure multiple times same time,from our application. In this case, few processes executing successfully and few getting failed with error "50000 error executing the stored procedure" and if we run thesame process again its getting executed sucessfully.Does the MySQL cannot handle multiple threads same time?
I am using distributed transactions where in I start a TransactionScope in BLL and receive data from service broker queue in DAL, perform various actions in BLL and DAL and if everything is ok call TransactionScope.Commit().
I have a problem where in if i run multiple instances of the same app ( each app creates one thread ), the threads pop out the same message and I get a deadlock upon commit.

Can anyone explain to me why the threads are able to pop the same message ? I thought service broker made sure this cannot happen?
In the ECASE table there is trigger to get the max value of case_id column in ecase based on project and increment one to that case_id value and insert into ecase table .
When we insert a new record to the ECASE table this trigger calls and insert the case_id column value.
When i run with multiple threads , the transaction is rolled back because of trigger . The reason is , on the project table the lock is happening while getting the max value of case_id column based on project.
I am able to run a query which runs FAst in QA but slow in theapplication.It takes about 16 m in QA but 1000 ms on theApplication.What I wanted to know is why would the query take a longtime in the application when it runs fast on SQL server?How should we try debugging it?Ajay

This sounds like a pretty easy one. I have a SQL 2000 database with 2-3.4GHZ CPUs and 1GB of RAM. I have one database on it. I go in Query Analyzer on another machine and run a simple query like 'SELECT * FROM USERS' which should return 15,000 rows.
IT takes 30 (thirty) seconds to finish this query. OMG

I have a query that takes minutes to execute, even through there are about 300,000 records are being processed. I would appreciate any help with optimizing that query. I have two tables: User and Usage. Table user has two fields: User_Id and Date_Created and a non-clustered index on User_Id. Table usage has two fields also: User_Id and Date_Used and non-clustered index on both fields. The User table is populated when the user registers. The Usage table is populated every time the user opens a document.
Here is what I need to do: get the number of users from the Usage table who opened a document at least once after they have registered during the last 30 days for each day in the time frame, where the time frame varies. For example, if the time frame is 8/01/00 - 8/31/00, I need to get the following data:

The Ticket table contains approx. 11,000 records. I have created a nonclustered index for the licenseplate field, a 7 char varchar field. Any suggestions for speeding up the query?
The following query is causing some problems because it's taking too long to complete. I looked at the estimated execturion plan and I am unsure why it appears to spend over 50% of its time doing a 'Bookmark Lookup' on on particular column (SRA_SR_ID in the S_EVT_ACT table). There is an index on the column - S_EVT_F14. I'm not sure if the query is using the index properly. What can be done to specifically improve this particular problem? In general, does anyone have some suggestions for optimizing the query as a whole?

I have a query that is taking too long to run. It take 14 seconds to return 6800 rows. However, if I move the query out of a stored proc, it takes 1 second. I want to understand this issue and ideally fix the stored proc case.

When I want to display the total records (#) in a webpage, it is very slow. When I try to remove the total records and show them per 20s, it responds very fast.
What might be going on here? The Query is against a single table withsome criteria. The database is active with upto 200 connected usersand at peak times there are 10 or more active sessions. Most of thetime, the query comes back in milliseconds. Occasionally though, it itcan take a whole minute. I've been watching CPU, Memory, Disk. Noneof these appear to be the bottlenecking. (CPU usually below 10% andalways below 50%, pages/sec is 0, and disk % is low and does notspikes during hangs) I also checked to see if hangs were synching withTlog backups or other scheduled jobs, but that is not the case. Thebox has good hardware 4GB RAM and 2 CPU at 3.4 GHz. What could beholding this query up?Thanks for any ideas.Dave

I have sql query to search for fields in a rather big view. If I execute the query in sql server enterprise manager, the results will be displayed in less than 6 seconds. However, if I execute it using asp.net, it will take very long (more than 2 minutes).
The query is a simple one like "SELECT * FROM myview WHERE name LIKE '%Microsoft%'". And the code I use to execute it in asp.net is

I don't have any problem using such code for other queries.

I am having a query where I am connecting to eight different tables using joins. When I join one table to another the speed of the execution becomes less. Even on my local server it is taking nearly 2 to 3 minutes to execute the query. How can I increase the speed of execution of my query.
This queries performance is acceptable (about 1 second) when run like this:
SELECT a.f1,a.f2,b.ff1,b.ff2 FROM table1 a LEFT OUTER JOIN table2 b ON a.id = b.id AND b.ff3 = 'T' WHERE a.mydate BETWEEN '3/4/2002' AND '3/6/2002' AND b.ff4 = 'somevalue'
It is terrible (60 seconds) when run like this: SELECT a.f1,a.f2,b.ff1,b.ff2 FROM table1 a LEFT OUTER JOIN table2 b ON a.id = b.id AND b.ff3 = 'T' WHERE b.mydate BETWEEN '3/4/2002' AND '3/6/2002' AND b.ff4 = 'somevalue'
I need the date range to come from the b.maydate. The field is indexed. If I run another query directy on table2 b without a JOIN and using b.mydate for some daterange it is quite fast. Any idea how to speed this up?

This query is used to display one record per page on a ASP paging script, I select top 2 because, I want to be able to know if I have another page or record to go to and deside if I need to display the "Next" button.
Also It is suppose to select records only assigned to it's ower. It works fairly quick when viewing first few hundred records, then it takes a very long time.
I have indexed ID and eID as clustered indexes also tblOwner could have multiple instances eID.
