Store C# Class Object In SQL Server 2005 Database

Nov 13, 2007

I have a C# application, and I need to store instances of various class objects in a database. For Example:

myClass oMyClass = new myClass(args);

oMyClass.Property1 = something;
oMyClass.Property2 = something;

Now I need to store the oMyClass object in the database for later use, at which point I would get it out of the database, cast it back to myClass, and be able to acess its properties, etc. My problem is that the classes that I am working with are not serializable, so I cannot store the objects as XML. Does anyone have an example of doing this programmatically with C# and ADO.NET. I am assuming that I would have to store it in a vabinary column, but how do I get it in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Compact Edition Database In Object Store On Windows CE 4.2

Oct 10, 2007

The device I'm working on has a filesystem on compact flash, but we're concerned about burning it up with excessive writes. One solution might be to keep the SQL database in the the object store, perhaps dumping a copy out to the CF as backup. Any pointers as to how to accomplish this? If we were to keep the db in a file on the CF, what's the SQL Server CE behavior for writing to the file? Does it write every time a record is created/updated, or is there any ability to control when the data is flushed to the file?

Thanks from an SQL newbie.

TempTables From Inside MTS VB-class Object

Sep 15, 1999

I have a VB-class object running inside MS Transaction server. A function inside this class makes use of a temp table when a user does a web-query on my server which gets some data from SQL 6.5. Problem is, although the temptable is destroyed at the end of the function, my TempDB in SQL gets gradually fuller with each query that runs.

Why does this happen. I cannot release any of the tempdb space already in use, so eventually the tempdb gets completely full and SQL stops running.

Any help will be appreciated.

Feb 2, 2007

Hi, I'm using Reporting Services on my website and for some reports, i get the timeout error after 30 secs.

I declared my object using the Reporting tools and I am using ObjectDataSource.

My report is declared in my aspx page:

My ObjectDataSource is declared in my aspx page under my report tag:

<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="ObjectDataSource" runat="server" OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}" SelectMethod="GetData" TypeName="ReportsTableAdapters.ViewingTotalsTableAdapter">

My TableAdapter is declare in my Reports.xsd file:

<TableAdapter BaseClass="System.ComponentModel.Component" DataAccessorModifier="AutoLayout, AnsiClass, Class, Public" DataAccessorName="ViewingTotalsTableAdapter" GeneratorDataComponentClassName="ViewingTotalsTableAdapter" Name="ViewingTotals" UserDataComponentName="ViewingTotalsTableAdapter">

I am trying to access the TableAdapter object from my WebPage Class on the Page_Load event , so I can modify the Command.CommandTimeout. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to have access to the TableAdater object.

How Can I Return A Database From The DataBase Explorer Of VB 2005 Express To The Object Explorer Of SQL Server Management Studio

Mar 3, 2008

Hi all,

I just realized recently that a database "XYZ" in the Object Explorer of my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) is put in the Database Explorer of my VB 2005 Express for processing a Stored Procedure in executing the SELECT statements (not by using Input and/or Output Parameters) during the ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express programming, then the content of the database "XYZ" is not in the SSMSE. How can I return the database "XYZ" from the DataBase Explorer of VB 2005 Express back to the Object Explorer of SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) safely? Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,

SQL Server 2005 X64 SP2 Conflict With Teradata Oledb? (class Not Registered)

Jul 23, 2007

SP2 for SQL Server 2005 x64 has been less than happy for me.

The initial problem, mentioned in another thread, concerned SSIS client which stopped liking Data Flow components. It was solved by a removal and reinstallation of the client tools.

However, there now seems to be a problem with making use of the Teradata oledb provider within SSIS. Prior to the installation of SP2 there was no problem.

I create a new SSIS package
Add a Data Flow component
Within the data flow add an oledb source
Create a new connection - using the Teradata oledb provider
Test the connection (it works!)
Use SQL something like "select * from some_teradata_table_on_the_TD_server"
Click on columns, wait a second, a list of columns is returned
Add a SQL Server destination (with a new SQL Server connection)
Connect the two components
Save the package

Click go
The TD oledb source component turns bright red and the error is "class not registered"

I have uninstalled the TD oledb provider (and underlying TD components) and re-installed (32-bit and 64-bit) - no change

Any ideas?

' The Definition Of Object [object Name] Has Changed Since It Was Compiled' Error When Altering A Trigger In 2005

Aug 17, 2007

Hello All

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question to, so if it's not, please accept my apologies.

I'm working in SQL Server 2005 with a database that was migrated to 2005 from SQL Server 2000. I have to alter a trigger on a table for some functionality changes, and when I modify the trigger and then access it through the application the database is working with, I receive this error:

There was a error in the [stored procedure name] procedure. Error Number: -2147217900 Error Description: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The definition of object '[trigger name]' has changed since it was compiled.

[stored procedure name] and [trigger name] are where the actual names appear in the message.

I've tried running sp_recompile on the trigger, stored procedure, and table that are associated with this, and nothing works. I have dropped the trigger, which allows the save process to complete (but doesn't perform the required functionality, of course), and then re-created the trigger, but the error message still comes up. The compatibility level for the database is SQL Server 2000 (80) (as it was migrated from SQL Server 2000 as I mentioned above).

Has anyone seen this, and if so, how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Jay

When Using A Sqldataadapter In VS 2005 I Get The Following Error At Runtime. Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

Dec 21, 2006

Help! I have posted this before and I had hoped that the VS2005 SP1 would help my problem. It didn't. My code is shown below. I have dropped a sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and a strongly-typed dataset from the toolbox onto the component designer for my page and written my code. It compiles without any errors but at runtine I receive the system error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The error occurs at the first line where the sqldataadapter is mentioned. I have shufflled the code and the error still occurs at first mention of the dataadapter. I have set parameters to a simple string such as "myemail." It hasn't helped. I have used the "Dim" statement as "Dim DaAuthorLogin as System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataadapter and Dim DaAuthorLogin as New ......) at the start of the private sub generated by the event requiring the data. VS 2005 Error 'Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object' With Integration Services Project Create Failure

May 22, 2008

Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."

Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).

I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.

Any one have this problem and found the solution?

Thanks,

Sending Uploaded Image To Data Access Class When Storing Image In SQL Server 2005

Apr 20, 2007

I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.

Sql 2005 Registered Server Vs Object Explorer

Jun 12, 2006

Under sql 2000 I needed to register my sql server before I could begin working with it under Enterprise Manager. Under sql 2005 I usually setup the server under "Object explorer" and work with it from there. So what does registering a server under sql 20005 do? Why is it needed?

How Do I Store Images (like GIFs) In Sql Server 2005?

Jan 2, 2007

I have a web server running fine together with an sql 2005 db. I use asp as my web server programming language and want to be able to display images that are stored in the database.

My question of course is how do I put images, for example an image called "image1.gif" into the database?

After having stored the images in the db, I guess that the are displayed on my web pages the same way as all text information (by writing something like <%=rs("image_column")%> ).... Anyway first I need help with how to store imgs in the database...

Problems Inserting Datetime Object Into Sql Server 2005

Nov 22, 2007

hey everyone,

Im trying run a stored procedure, but I am getting the following message when trying to execute it.

Implicit conversion from data type datetime to int is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query.

which seems strange, as there is no integer going to a datetime field. Also, it does not return the value that is incorrect, nor the parameter that is failing. If there is anyway to view this in VS 2005 Team suite, please let me know.

It should also be noted that when I execute this sproc from within sql management studio, it executes fine.

This is the stored procedure im trying to execute...

CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_UpdateRequest]

@request_id INT,
@request_client_id INT,
@request_description VARCHAR(150), @request_date DATETIME,
@request_edit_date DATETIME, @request_status VARCHAR(25), @request_approve_date DATETIME,
@request_activity_code VARCHAR(7), @request_department_code VARCHAR(3), @request_participants INT,
@request_activity_date DATETIME, @request_activity_due_date DATETIME,
@request_company_id INT, @request_company_code INT,
@request_notes VARCHAR(2000)

AS
BEGIN

UPDATE invoice_requests

SET request_client_id = @request_client_id,request_description = @request_description,
request_date = @request_date, request_edit_date = @request_edit_date,
request_status = @request_status, request_approve_date = @request_approve_date,
request_activity_code = @request_activity_code,
request_department_code = @request_department_code,
request_participants = @request_participants,
request_activity_date = @request_activity_date,
request_activity_due_date = @request_activity_due_date,
request_company_code = @request_company_code, request_company_id = @request_company_id,
request_notes = @request_notes

WHERE request_id = @request_id

END
GO

in my .net app, all the datetime objects are valid dates, so I could not see why this would be generating the error that it is, so I ran the SQL Profiler, and this was the output. Again, i cannot see where im going wrong...

please note, I have seperated the output from the single slab of text, making sure I didnt remove anything...

exec sp_executesql
N'EXECUTE sp_UpdateRequest
@request_id,
@request_client_id,

@request_activity_code varchar(8000),
@request_department_code varchar(8000),
@request_participants int,
@request_activity_date datetime,
@request_activity_due_date datetime,
@request_company_id int,
@request_company_code int,
@request_notes varchar(8000)',

@request_id=5,
@request_client_id=1,
@request_description='',
@request_date=''2007-11-22 16:34:32:997'',
@request_edit_date=''2007-11-22 16:34:32:997'',
@request_status='Draft',
@request_approve_date=''1970-01-01 00:00:00:000'',
@request_activity_code='',
@request_department_code='',
@request_participants=0,
@request_activity_date=''2007-11-29 00:00:00:000'',
@request_activity_due_date=''2007-11-23 00:00:00:000'',
@request_company_id=0,
@request_company_code=1,
@request_notes=''

any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
