Stored Procedure To Split Values And Insert Into Tables
Oct 19, 2012
I have an empty employee table and employee_details table. The temp table which i created say it has 10 columns of which 6 are from employees and 4 from employee_details. I have loaded some data into temp table say 10 rows.
Now the stored procedure using cursor should be created such that, it should fetch the rows one by one from temp table and insert the values into employee table(6 columns) and the rest in employee_details table(4 columns).
This is the scenario.
Here is the column names of my temp table
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[temp](
[employee_id] [char](7) NOT NULL,
[first_name] [char](50) NOT NULL,
[middle_name] [char](50) NOT NULL,
[last_name] [char](50) NOT NULL,
[title] [char](5) NOT NULL,
[Code] ....
Here the last 4 columns belong to the employee_details table. The stored procedure should fetch record by record from temp split and insert into employee and employee_details table.

table2 is intially populated (basically this will serve as historical table for view); temptable and table2 will are similar except that table2 has two extra columns which are insertdt and updatedt
process:
1. get data from an existing view and insert in temptable
2. truncate/delete contents of table1
3. insert data in table1 by comparing temptable vs table2 (values that exists in temptable but not in table2 will be inserted)
4. insert data in table2 which are not yet present (comparing ID in t2 and temptable)
5. UPDATE table2 whose field/column VALUE is not equal with temptable. (meaning UNMATCHED VALUE)
* for #5 if a value from table2 (historical table) has changed compared to temptable (new result of view) this must be updated as well as the updateddt field value.

I have several tables that are related with the same primary key that I need to make a consolidated list of values for. The schema of each table is similar but some have more or less fields than others. I want to make a list of all table names, field names, and the value of that field. I can select all tables included from sysobjects. The existence of the key is probable but not guaranteed in all tables. The basic table format is: Table1------ID Field1 Field2 Field31 0.0 4.1 3.92 0.5 1.3 0.23 7.1 8.8 9.3 Table2------ID Field10 0.41 3.32 2.73 5.7 Table3------ID Field1 Field22 2.4 4.63 4.3 8.1 Format of the result set:(specifying ID = 2) Table_Name Table_Field ValueTable1 Field1 0.5Table1 Field2 1.3Table1 Field3 0.2Table2 Field1 2.7Table3 Field1 2.4Table3 Field2 4.6

I have two tables and I need to update values in them via a stored procedure. Tried too much to update but some times it update the first table only, others the second or even fail due to cannot allow duplicates. Also when it updates the WHOLE data in the table becomes the same as the new updated ones. I've now reached to this error after all these lines of codes
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Emp_ID',table 'DatePics'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails. The statement has been terminated
Here is the SQL code :
ALTER procedure [dbo].[UpdateEmp]
@EmpName nvarchar(100),

@Passport nvarchar(20),

How to insert data into 2 tables in a stored proc.
Scenario is:
Table 1 insert is generated and the primary key is created. This key is an identity column and is the only thing that makes the row unique.
Table 2 needs an insert but one of the columns that is needed is the newly created column 1 primary key.
How do I know what the new rows primary key value is from Table 1

Hi
I am currently developing my first database driven application and I have stumbled over some quite simple issue. I'll describe my database design first:
I have one table named images(id (identity), name, description) and one table named albums (id, name, description). Since I'd like to establish a n:n connection between these, I defined an additional table ImageInAlbum (idImage, idAlbum). The relation between these tables works as expected (primary keys, foreign keys appear to be ok).
Now I'd like to insert data via a stored procedure in sql server 2005 and I'm not sure how this procedure will look like.
To add a simple image to a given album, I am trying to do the following:
* Retrieve name, description from the UI
* Insert a new row into images with this data
* Get the ID from the newly created row
* Insert a new row into "ImageInAlbum" with the ID just retrieved and a fixed Id from the current album.
I know how I would do the first two things, but I am not used to Stored Procedures syntax yet to know how to do the other things.
Any help is appreciated ... even if it means telling me that I am doing something terribly wrong

Radio button lists - Customer satisfaction questions 1-5
Multiline textbox - other comments.
I want to insert textbox, dropdown menu into a db table, then insert each question score into a score column with each question having an ID.
I envisage to do this I will need an insert query for the textbox and dropdownlist and then an insert for each question based on ID and score.

I have a form to assign JOB SITES to previously created PROJECT. The JOB SITES appear in the DataList as it varies based on customer. It can be 3 to 50 JOB SITES per PROJECT.
I have "PROJECT" table with all necessary fields for project information and "JOBSITES" table for job sites. I also created a new table called "PROJECTSITES" which has only 2 columns: "ProjectId" and "SiteId".
What I am trying to do is to insert multiple rows into that "PROJECTSITES" table based on which checkbox was checked. The checkbox is located next to each site and I want to be able to select only the ones I need. Btw the Datalist is located inside of a formview and has it's own datasource which already distincts which JOBSITES to display.
Sample:
ProjectId - SiteId
1 - 5
1 - 9
1 - 16
1 - 18
1 - 20
1 - 27
1 - 31
ProjectId stays the same, only values for SiteId are being different.
I hope I explaining it right. Do I have to use some sort of loop to go through the automatically populated DataList records and how do I make a multiple inserts to database table? We use SQL Server 2005 and VB for code behind. Please ask if I missed on some information. Thank you in advance.

SELECT DISTINCT ChainName from Chains
For each ChainName, there exists 0 or more StoreNames in the Stores. I want to return the result of this select as the second field in each row of the result set.
SELECT DISTINCT StoreName FROM Stores WHERE Stores.ChainName = ChainName
Each row of the result set returned by the stored procedure would contain:
ChainName, Array of StoreNames (or comma separated strings or whatever)
How can I code a stored procedure to do this?

This is my simple procedure, I wanted to know whether the IDENTITY values created in #tblTest will always be consistent, I mean without losing any number in between. i.e. ID column will have values 1,2,3,4,5.....
or is there any chance of ID column having values like 1,2, 4, 6,7,8....

Hi,
I am trying to get the combination of results in my stored procedure, I am not getting what I need. Following are the things which I need to return from my stored proc.
1. I need to select distinct categories and their record count
2. I also need to select the records from the table.
3. Need to send both category, record counts and records.
First is it possible in stored procedure?
Following is helpful information.
Data in tables looks like this.
prod id, prod_name, prod_category
1, T shirts, Mens Apparel
2 , Shirts, Mens Apparel
3 , Pants , Mens Apparel
4, Tops , Women Wear
5, Bangles, Women Wear
And in User Interface I need to show like this.
Mens Apparel (3)
1 T Shirts
2 Shirts
3 Pants
Women Wear (2)
4 Tops
5 Bangles
Please help me if there is any way to return the complete data structure using stored procedure. If I do something in java code, I can get this, but I am trying to get directly from stored procedure only.
Thanks in advance...

Before I start a small project I am interested in the best way to do it. I work for a college doing management information and generally finding problems with our data. A regular thing I end up with is a set of student ID's which I need to lookup. Through the front end this takes a while as I have to look them up individually and I often need to compare ID's.
What I have thought about making is a system where I can select a set of ID's and search for all of them. I will probably make this through C# pasting the set of id's into a datagridview and providing the results in another one.
The problem I have is I don't know how to send a set of ID's (so I would probably be using where IN (SET OF ID's). I read briefly a while back about passing a type table but am unfamiliar with how to use it. This is sql 2000 server.
