String Measures In Analysis Services Cube

I am having the requirement where I have to use string as measures. Is this possible in Analysis services 2K.

Analysis :: Large Tabular Cube With Lots Of Measures - Keyboard Stuck?
Apr 24, 2015large tabular cubes (SSAS 2012 SP2), with lots of calculations, the keyboard seems to be stuck, one cannot type or make any modifications to any measures, even after closing a project.
The only workaround is to completely restart the machine. Â Using Visual Studio 2010 Shell.
Are there any possibly corruptions or calc limitations that one should be aware of?
Notable that this never happens with any small cubes, but just with the largest cube that we have, that has probably tens of calcs. Â
Analysis :: Measures Showing No Rows In SSAS Browser After Cube Processed Ok And Calculate Command Is There
Jun 10, 2015I've created a cube and it processed fine. The calculate command is there. The measure that I'm attempting to run in the SSAS/Visual Studios browser is simply a count rows measure. When I drag the measure to the window, it says no rows available. If I click on the filter that allows nulls, the only change it makes is that it goes from no rows available to "NULL".Â

"Actual", "Budget" and "Full Year Budget".
The dimensions I have are:
- Account No_ / Name
- Cost Code
- Sub Cost Code
- Time/Dates
- Budget Name
Both "Actual" & "Budget" measures need to be filtered/dimensioned by:
- Account No_ / Name
- Cost Code
- Sub Cost Code
- Time/Dates (exclusive to "Actual", "Budget")
Thus have put these in one cube
AND "Full Year Budget" needs to be filtered/dimensioned by:
- Account No_ / Name
- Cost Code
- Sub Cost Code
- Budget Name (exclusive to "Full Year Budget")
THUS have put this as one cube…
I then created a virtual cube, with the 2 cubes thinking that the dimensions I created in the original cubes would only filter the measures of the original cube measures in the virtual cube. ...BUT all dimension filters in the virtual cube filter all measures in the virtual cube, irrespective of which dimensions were created with the original cubes.
please help!
Analysis :: Cube Needs To Be Deployed From VS After SSIS Analysis Services Processing Task Completes?
May 13, 2014I have a cube that we are processing nightly via an Analysis Service Processing Task in SSIS. In order to increase the performance of the processing time, we elected to use a lot of rigid dimension attributes, and do a full process of everything in the SSIS task. The issue that I am having is that after that task completes, I need to go into Visual Studio to deploy the cube becuase we are unable to browse or use the cube. This issue seemed to start once we changed the SSIS Analysis Service Processing Task to do a full process on the dimensions, rather than an incremental.
I would expect that once development is done, and it is processed and deployed, that is it. My thinking is that the SSIS task should just update the already deployed cube,
Analysis :: Dimension Was Not Found In The Cube When String Was Parsed
Sep 1, 2015I'm using SQL-Server 2008, Visual Studio 2013. I've got created Linked Object (Linked Measure) in Cube2 from Cube1. Everything was fine, but I edited Measure in Cube1, as I found documentation there is no ability to refresh Linked Objects so I deleted and recreated Linked Measure on Cube2. After It I can't process Cube2, receiving following errors:
MdxScript(Cube2) (10, 24) The dimension '[Dim]' was not found in the cube when the string, [Dim], was parsed.The END SCOPE statement does not match the opening SCOPE statement.

Analysis Services: Deploy A Cube
Jun 21, 2007I'm making my first attempt at creating a cube using Analysis Services based on my exisiting datamart. Datasource, views, and dimensions have been defined. But comes deploying the cube, it's giving the error saying "A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running." The Deploy Target server and database are the same where my datamart is. Or, maybe I don't know what I'm doing.
Would appreciate any suggestion for my enlightenment. Thanks
Analysis Services Hiearchy Cube
Jun 30, 2007I setup Hiarchy in the dimentions of my cube, however when I go and look at it via proclarity, I can't see the hiearchy there.
I have one table that has:
Category
Subcategory
Partnumber
And I have the hiearchy set from Subcategory to partnumber.
Then I go into proclarity and limit the category by "my catname" and I still see the 8000 partnumbers in the list.
Any ideas?
Q: Analysis Services Cube Design
Jul 20, 2005I have a (hopefully typical) problem when it comes to cube design. Westore millions of product records every year, broken down bymonth/quarter. Each product can be assigned to various heirarchialclassification groups etc. The data in an OLTP DB occupies roughly100G for a typical year.We're looking at breaking this out into OLAP to provide faster accessto the data in various configurations and groupings. This is not aproblem, as this is the intended use for Analysis Services.The problem is that we apply projection factors on the product pricesand quantities. This would be ok if it only happened once, however,this happens every quarter (don't ask why). The projection factorschange 4 times a year, and they affect all historical product records.This presents a challenge because to aggregate the data into a usefulconfiguration in the cubes, you throw out the detail data, but thismeans throwing out the price and quantities which are needed to applythe projection.So if you have Product A at $10 and Product B at $20, and roll both upinto Category X, you'll have $30, but you'll lose the ability to applya projection factor of .5 to Product A and .78 to Product B. They'rerolled up.I don't want to regenerate the cubes every 3 months. That's absurd.But we can't live without the ability of projection theprices/quantities on a product level (detail level). So how can thisbe achieved when the other cubes are created at a higher level withless details and sums of the detail data?My initial guess is that we have to update the product data, and thenreaggregate all the other data that is built upon that product data.Is there any other way to apply math to the data on the way out?Thanks in advance!Regards,Zach

Dec 8, 2005If there are any AS gurus out there, I could use some help. I've been having some problems with particular AS dimension and cubes and it's driving me crazy! It doesn't matter what I do, nothing seems to work.
Anyway, here's what I'm trying to do. I've got a fairly simple dimension. There is a date stored in the dimension that is formatted as an int. The dimension needs to only display AGE, so I cast the int as a date and do a datediff to get AGE. The dimension builds just fine and I get the results I want. My problem is when I add the dimension to the cube. The cube fails to build and I get an error message - "Data source provider error: The column prefix 'MY TABLE' does not match with a table name or alias used in the query." Basically, AS is telling me that the table that is used for the dimension doesn't exist, even though the fact and the dimension are joined properly and I've validated the structure.
I've run a number of queries in QA on the two tables and everything works fine. No funky data issues. I've run the service packs a few times, but that didn't work either. I've tried making a cube that only has the just fact table and the one dimension table, and it still fails.
Basically, I'm out of ideas. Any help that anyone has is greatly appreciated.

Update An Analysis Services Cube From Stored Proc?
Jul 1, 2004I'd like to be able to update an Analysis Services cube through a stored proc.
Currently I can:
- Make a DTS package that updates the cube
- run xp_cmdshell which runs dtsrun which runs the DTS package.
That is messy, easily broken, and hard to get good error info when an error occurs. Is there a better route?

Error While Generating Ad Hoc Model For Analysis Services Cube

I try to generate ad hoc reporting model for analysis services cube in reporting services.
in Management Studio I connected to reporting services, defined a data source to the analysis services database.
But If i try to generate model i get the error:
"While connection with a data source a mistake has appeared, or the query is invalid for the data source. (rsCannotPrepareQuery)(Report Services SOAP Proxy Source)"
Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

Querying Analysis Services 2005 Cube With SSIS

I've been trying to use Analysis Services 2005 Cube as a data source, query it via MDX and then use the data returned elsewhere in SSIS.
However, I've been unable to get this working and can't find any information regarding how this can be done. Surely it should be possible when I can get this working even in Excel?
I've looked in December edition of BOL and no luck - have also sent a feedback to BOL regarding this and have been told that "it should be possible, since there is a way to send SQL queries to AS." However the person I was speaking with knew of no one who had actually tried this scenario and to try posting here.
Any help as to how to get this done would be greatly appreciated.

I have not read the entire article through but am in the process of doing so. Also, I will be trying to implement your solution.

Analysis Services Processing Task - Cube No Longer Updating

We have set up an IS package to process an AS 2005 database (comprising cube & dimensions, etc) daily, via a SQL Server Agent job on both development and production systems. This has been working fine for months.
A new dimension was added to the cube on the development system - automatic processing via the IS package continued without issue. However, when the new dimension was added to the production system the IS package no longer processes the cube correctly. Although all appears ok (and all is present and correct in the logs), no data updates to the cube are made. Only when the cube is manually processed does the cube get updated.
Anyone got any ideas about how to get around this issue? We have created a new IS package, with a single Analysis Services Processing Task, and tried this but get the same outcome.
Analysis :: Creating Cube With AMO - Cube Has No Measure Groups?
May 19, 2015I have problems creating a cube with AMO.
I can add the cube to the database object and fill it with dimensions and a measuregroup (see code below).
If I call cube.Update() it says something like "Error in meta data manager. Cube has no measuregroups." (getting the message in german language)
The error in Microsoft.AnalysisServices.OperationException.Results.Messages is -1055653629
I can't find any documentation about this (or any other) error code in Microsoft documentation.
Here's my Code:

Analysis :: Drilling Down On Cumulative Measures
Oct 1, 2015I have a cumulative measure in Tabular, and when I filter by a date in SQL it brings back all rows up to that date. However, when I drill down on any of the numbers, it only brings back rows related to the filtered date, and not the cumulative rows. Is there any way round this at all? Major obstacle for me at the moment...

I used formula Measures.Amount/Measures.Count, this formula is not showing correct results when I don't drag any dimensions, it is showing results for All member as 425, but it should show as 350.
So I made a same change ([L].[LK].Currentmember, Measures.Amount)/([L].[LK].Currentmember,Measures.Count), this worked fine but performance is very low and so stopped working on this.

Analysis :: MDX Need To Filter Measures Based On A Dimension
Oct 26, 2015I am pretty new to MDX and am having trouble getting what I need out of this MDX query. Some business rules:
Gross Amount applies to all clients, whether Type A or Type B. Â I always want to return Gross Amount.Some clients are Type A, some are Type B, some are both, and some are neither.There are Type A Net Amount and Type B Net Amount values for all clients, but I only want to display the Type A Net value if the client is a Type A client, only Type B if the client is a Type B, or both for both, and neither for neither. Â I would like to return blank/null, not $0.00, for those values that should not be displayed.
Here's the basic query. Â

Analysis :: Drillthrough With Measures From Two Measure Groups
Nov 4, 2014I'm trying to show measures from 2 measures groups in a drillthrough. Obviously, it's not possible with a standard drillthrough action, but I still hope that I can somehow achieve this with the ASSP GetCustomDrillthroughMDX function.
Speaking in AdventureWorks2008R2 terms: Imagine I have a pivot table with Product Categories in filter (say, filtered on Gloves) and "Internet Sales Amount" as measure. From context menu in Excel I can call the drillthrough action which shows me the individual sales records. I would like to show in drillthrough additionally "End of Day Rate" measure from "Exchange Rates" measure group.
One option would be to join FactInternetSales with FactCurrencyRate and make EndOfDayRate a physical measure in the "Internet Sales" measure group. This is a pretty huge overhead for my scenario and I'd like to avoid this.
Another one would be to call something completely external for a drillthrough (for example, a SRRS Report).

Dynamic Connection String For Analysis Services
Jun 29, 2006I have a package where I need a dynamic connection string for an Analysis Services connection manager.
I have implemented this successfully for a Text data source, and a SQL data source, but the same approach does not seem to be working for an AS connection.
I set some expressions for the AS connection manager (ServerName, InitialCatalog, even the entire ConnectionString itself), but they don't take. I don't get any errors, but the task processes the cubes for the AS connection as it was established at run time. The design time connection string changes don't appear to get evaluated. This seems to be an issue only for AS connections.

I have some questions about SQL Servers 2000 and 2005 compatibility.
In my configuration I have to use both servers.
The cubes are stocked in 2005 server.
May I transfer from 2005 to 2000 Analysis Services the cubes?
If yes, what is the procedure? The result of migration is the same in the two different versions?
If not, how can I solve this problem?

Opinion On Cube Analysis

I was talking to my boss to day and our report request are not very consistant. We always having someone coming back to change something in our report. We were thinking of useing something called the Cube Analysis. Then it give our employees the raw data for them to run any standard query for themself. We have folks that want a report one way, but then they changed their minds and we are creating yet another report 4 or 5 times. what are your thoughts about this type of database?
