T-SQL (SS2K8) :: How To Select Records Only When Their Status Has Been Changed

Jun 9, 2015

I have a product table and my task is to select only the products that had been paid for, but later their status has been changed.

I need to report the original paid date, the most recent status, and most recent updated date. Here is the sample table:

CREATE TABLE #Products (primKey int, productId int, productName varchar(100), productStatus varchar(50), logDate datetime )

Insert into #Products(primKey, productId, productName, productStatus, logDate)

Values
(1, 201, 'pen', 'received', '01/01/2011'),
(2, 201, 'pen', 'sold', '01/02/2011'),
(3, 201, 'pen', 'paid', '01/03/2011'),
(4, 201, 'pen', 'returned', '01/04/2011'),
(5, 201, 'pen', 'refurbished', '01/05/2011'),
(6, 202, 'pencil', 'received', '01/06/2011'),
(7, 202, 'pencil', 'sold', '01/07/2011'),
(8, 202, 'pencil', 'paid', '01/08/2011'),
(9, 201, 'pen', 'sold', '01/09/2011'),
(10, 201, 'pen', 'paid', '01/10/2011')

/* temp table records */
Select * From #Products order by productId

/* The desired outcomes would be showing only the Record 3 and 10.

This is a "fake" query to get the results:
*/
Select * From #Products Where primKey in (3, 10) order by productId

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Select Statement With Derived Order Status

Aug 28, 2015

Here is my requirement

Table 1 Order
order ID, Sales order ID order date, order type

Table 2 Order details
Order Details ID, Order ID, Order Stage

Table 3 Related Order details
Order ID(FK to Order ID), Related Order Details ID(FK to Order Details ID), Related Order ID( FK to Order ID)

Here is example

Table 1 Order
1, 1234, 2015-01-01, Refill
2, 1234, 2015-02-02, Extension

Table 2 Order Details
1, 1, Approved
2, 1, Approved
3, 2, Rejected

Table 3 Related Order Details
2, 1, 1
2, 2, 1

I have to Select Order, Order Details and Order Status

Order Status is determined from Order Stage as follows:

If, at least one order detail line(from Order Details and Related Order details table) is approved, that Order status=Approved.

For the example, Order Status of Order ID=2, is Approved based on order status for order details lines 3(from table 2) and order details ID 1 and 2 (from table 3)

How to combined order stage from table 2 and table 3 and then compute order status.

Finding Changed Records

I need to create a table that would be the result set of a comparisonbetween table a and table b? Table a and b first 2 fields will always bethe same (CustomerName and CustomerNumber). But if the Address1 fieldchanges in table a, I would like to throw that whole row into mycomparison table. Almost like a Select Into with a sub query that wouldinclude a WHERE TableA.field <> TableB.field. I would need to do thiscomparison for about 8 fields. Help appreciated for my syntax is prettybad. Update Group By Changed Records?

Nov 5, 2014

I'm bulk loading employees into an etl table, each employee has a unique ID number, but they have multiple records in the data. Sometimes their name or birthdate will change and I want to identify those records and only insert the newest version into production. I can do this with a series of temp tables, but I'm sure there's a better way. The SQL below updates the etl table with the flag I want to mark the inserts, but it seems convoluted. (Jon's birthday changes, Jane's birthday changes, Bill's gender changes, Amy nothing changes(I handle those inserts later))

DECLARE @Records TABLE(
firstname varchar(50), lastname varchar(50), birthdate date, sex char(1), IDNum varchar(15), moddate date, opflag char(1))
INSERT INTO @Records
VALUES
('JON','SMITH','20000101','M','12345','20140101','I'),
('JON','SMITH','20000101','M','12345','20140201','I'),

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Renumbering Remaining Records In A Table After Some Records Deleted

Dec 3, 2014

I have a table with about half a million records, each representing a patient in my county.

Each record has a field (RRank) which basically sorts the patients as to how "unwell" they are according to a previously-applied algorithm. The most unwell patient has an RRank of 1, the next-most unwell has RRank=2 etc.

I have just deleted several hundred records (which relate to patients now deceased) from the table, thereby leaving gaps in the RRank sequence. I want to renumber the remaining recs to get rid of the gaps.

I can see what I want to accomplish by using ROW_NUMBER, thus:

SELECT ROW_NUMBER() Over (ORDER BY RRank) as RecNumber, RRank
FROM RPL
ORDER BY RRank

I see the numbers in the RecNumber column falling behind the RRank as I scan down the results

My question is: How to convert this into an UPDATE statement? I had hoped that I could do something like:

UPDATE RISC_PatientList_TEMP
SET RRank = ROW_NUMBER() Over (ORDER BY RRank);

but the system informs that window functions will only work on SELECT (which UPDATE isn't) or ORDER BY (which I can't legally add).

Greetings,

Here is most of the code I am using:<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server"   DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="id, first_name, last_name"   OnItemUpdating="FormView1_ItemUpdating" OnItemUpdated="FormView1_ItemUpdated" > .. // my ItemEditTempate is here.</asp:FormView>
<EditItemTemplate>First Name: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("first_name") %>' runat="server" ID="author_name" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br />Last Name: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("last_name") %>' runat="server" ID="TextBox1" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br />E-mail: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("email") %>' runat="server" ID="TextBox2" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br /><br /><asp:Button ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" Text="Update" CommandName="Update" /><asp:Button ID="CancelButton" runat="server" Text="Cancel" CommandName="Cancel" /> </EditItemTemplate>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ASPNETDBConnectionString1 %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT id, first_name, last_name, email FROM aspnet_test where id = 1"UpdateCommand="UPDATE [aspnet_test] SET first_name = '<%# first_name %>',   last_name = '<%# last_name %>',   email = '<%# email %>'   WHERE id = @original_ID ">
<UpdateParameters><asp:Parameter Name="original_ID" Type="Int32" /></UpdateParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>
Any idea where the @original_ID is supposed to get its value from, or why does the SQL command shows blank fields? Thanks

MDX Statement - How To Select Last Changed Value Of A Measure

Jun 4, 2012

I am hopelessly lost on a MDX-Statement. We are trying to select the last changed value of a measure within the last 30 days and compare this to the current measure value to see wether this has increased, decreased or not changed at all.

We have basically 2 Dimensions (Timeline and Opportunity) and 1 Fact (Revenue). As already described we now want to evaluated, whether revenue has changed within the last 30 days. The result will be displayed in a SSRS-Report (don't have a problem here).

"All" I need to select via MDX, would be the last changed value and the current value. I tried to use the KPI function, but unfortunately to no avail.

How to do such a select in MDX?

Has SELECT INTO With IDENTITY() Function Changed The Way #'s Are Assigned?

Oct 10, 2007

We have SELECT INTO queries that use the IDENTITY function to assign a sequential row number to a result set based upon a sort order. This has been helpful in SQL Server 2000 for median determination. It appears, however, that in SQL Server 2005, the row numbers are not assigned sequentially, or maybe they are assigned before the sort order is applied.

Can anyone verify whether the IDENTITY function has changed behavior between 2000 and 2005? We would prefer not to have to make changes to existing queries. Thank you.

(BTW, the workaround we found so far is to put the initial SELECT...ORDER BY in a subquery, but then we had to include a phrase like TOP 10000000 to pass syntax check. Is there a better way?)

Insert / Update In Master Table And Also Save A History Of Changed Records : Using Data Flow/simple Sql Queries

Feb 9, 2007

Hi,

My scenario:

I have a master securities table which has 7 fields. As a part of the daily process I am uploading flat files into database tables. The flat files contains the master(static) security data as well as the analytics(transaction) data. I need to

1) separate the master (static) data from the flat files,

2) check whether that data is present in the master table, if not then insert that data into the master table

3) If data present then move that existing record to an history table and then update the main master table.

All the 7 fields need to be checked to uniquely identify a single record in the master table.

How can this be done? Whether we can us a combination of data flow items or write a sql procedure to do all this.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Customize Database Maintenance Using SSIS (Select Databases Based On Status)?

Mar 7, 2008

I want to customize database maintenance to run only on selected databases based on their status in sys.databases, without having to statically select them in the GUI.

I'm trying to write an SSIS package that will do the following:

1. Query for a list of databases that are not read-only or recovering, etc.
2. Perform database maintenance tasks (e.g., rebuild indexes) on those databases.

I'm doing this because the database maintenance tasks do not provide a way to select databases based on criteria or a SQL query filter.

My package includes an Execute SQL task to get the list of databases, a Foreach loop container to loop through the databases, and then...this is where I get stuck. I can't use the existing maintenance tasks (Rebuild Index, Update Statistics, etc.) because I don't know how to provide an input variable for the list of databases. I'd rather not write dynamic SQL to generate commands for each database object.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks much.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Returning Multiple TOP Records?

Jul 10, 2014

Here is my setup: I have the following tables -

tblPerson - holds basic person data.
tblPersonHistorical - holds a dated snapshot of the fkPersonId, fkInstitutionId, and fkDepartmentId
tblWebUsers - holds login data specific to a web account, but not every person will have a web account

I want to allow my admins to search for users (persons) with web accounts. They need to be able to search by tblPerson.FirstName, tblPerson.LastName, tblInstitutions.Institution, and tblDepartments.Department. The only way a Person record is joined an Institution or Department record is through many -> many junction table tblPersonHistorical.

People place orders and make decisions in our system. Because people can change institutions and departments, we need an historical snapshot of where they worked at the time they placed an order or made a decision. Of course that means some folks will have multiple historical records. That all works fine.

So when an admin user wants to search for webusers, I only want to return data, if possible, from he most recent/current historical records. This is where I am getting bogged down. When I search for a specific webuser I simply do a TOP 1 and ORDER BY DateCreated DESC. That returns only the current historical record for that person/webuser.

But what if I want to return many different webusers, and only want the TOP 1 historical for each returned?

Straight TOP by itself won't do it.
GROUP BY by itself won't do it.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: BCP Query-out Returns No Records?

Sep 3, 2014

I have a SP that manipulates data for picking products and puts them into a temp table "#PickList" which is used for the basis of printing a picking note report.

I have also added code at the end of the SP to take the "#PickList" data and insert into a permanent table called "BWT_Lift_Transaction" and then use the bcp command to query it out to a text file. All this works fine, until the bcp command runs. Although the records are in the table, bcp returns nothing. Here is the code:

DECLARE @strLocation VARCHAR(50)
DECLARE @TransNum VARCHAR(50)
DECLARE @strFileLocation VARCHAR(1000)
DECLARE @strFileName VARCHAR(1000)
DECLARE @bcpCommand VARCHAR(8000)

[code].....

The earlier parts of the code create the filename for the text file and location to store it. If I insert a SELECT on the dbo.BWT_Lift_Transaction directly after the insert, I can see the data in there, but although the bcp command creates the file correctly, it returns no data:

output

NULL
Starting copy...
NULL
0 rows copied.
Network packet size (bytes): 4096
Clock Time (ms.) Total : 1
NULL

If I remove the delete statement at the end and run the code twice, it will insert the data into the table twice. On the first run, nothing is returned by bcp. On the second run, the first set is returned by bcp, not both sets.

I don't understand why this is, but I guess it's something to do with transaction commitment and the way bcp works.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Get Delta Records Between 2 Tables With Same Structure

Dec 30, 2011

I need to get the replacement records between the 2 tables. I have table A and table B with same structure. I have 5 fields. Table A has 50,000 records and table B has 20,000 records. I have fields id , name, address,meter_flag,end_Date.

Some of the records in Table B are just replacement records of table A. I mean for example I have records like this in Table A

id name address meter_flag end_date

23 john 1201 salt lake dr no 2011-12-28

24 tom 1222 gibson ln yes 2011-12-16

25 alex 1334 qayak dr no 2011-12-17

In Table B

23 john 1344 mc kinney st yes 2011-12-18

24 tom 1222 gibson ln yes 2011-12-16

56 gary 1335 pruitt rd no 2011-12-18

25 alex 1334 qayak dr no 2011-12-17

So here in Table B i have an update for john with id 23 in table A in address field and meter_flag has changed to yes. There is new record with id 25 in table b but that is not in table A. so I need to find all these difference records by querying these 2 table
