Task Failed, SSIS Package Reporting Success

Mar 26, 2008

I'm debugging a SSIS package in Visual Studio and I have a task that failes but the overall package is reporting success. The deployed package in SQL2005 is doing the same thing.

Task failed: FactVisitApplicationInventory

SSIS package "PACE to PACE DW PROD.dtsx" finished: Success.

The program '[4652] PACE to PACE DW PROD.dtsx: DTS' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

I have set FailPackageOnFailure=True, FailParentOnFailure=True, and MaximumErrorCount=0 on this task and am executing just this single task in Studio and I can't get the Package to report a failure.

Any ideas?

Passing Execute DTS Package Result (success/failure) To Calling SSIS Package

Mar 6, 2008

I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.

As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.

Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?

If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Package Fails But Single Task Ends With Success

Nov 8, 2006

Hi

I've created a simple package that contains only one task that is an execute sql task. When I run only this single task from Business Intelligence development studio it runs successfully. But when I run the whole package (also from Business intlligence studio), the package fails.

The data source I access is ODBC. I'm sure the real reason for the error is the bad ODBC driver of the data source but this can't be changed. So I need to know what is different from running only a task in a package to running the whole package. If I knew that I might be able to adjust some setting and make it work.

Any help welcome.

SSIS Job Success But Package Didn't Run

Mar 16, 2007

I created a SSIS package that imports a file then moves the file to a folder called processed.
I created a job that runs the package. The pack works fine when I run it from the SQL Storage Area. When I run the job I get the following message:

Started: 9:58:15 AM DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_SUCCESS (0). Started: 9:58:15 AM Finished: 9:58:21 AM Elapsed: 6.047 seconds. The package executed successfully. The step succeeded.

showing that the job supposedly completed successfully.

I know that the package the not run because the data did not get imported and the file did not move.

Can anyone explain the package may not run but we still get a job completion status of success?

Implementing Transaction In SSIS Package - [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed To Acquire Connection &&<ConnectionName&&>.

Jun 30, 2006

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server.

When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good.

Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error.

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.

"NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server.

Please respond if anyone has any solution.

Thanks!

SSIS Package Execution Completes Without Giving Any Success Or Failure Message

Sep 4, 2007

Hi,

We are using SSIS to load some 100k records from flat file to Oracle Destination. We are using Oracle 10g client.
But during the execution after some 5hrs or 6hr with 900k records upload we are getting the message Package execution completed. In the Execution results there is no message related to success or failure and the tasks in the Data Flow where yellow in color. What might be the problem? Any information regarding this case will be helpful for us.

SSIS Job Fails For Package Containing Script Task With Error The Script Files Failed To Load.

Apr 10, 2006

I have developed a SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS) package that includes a Script Task on a 32-bit machine.  The PrecompileScriptIntoBinaryCode property is set to True.  After I build the package, the .dtsx file includes a <BinaryItem> element for that Task.  Package runs fine on the dev machine, both in BIDS and as SQL Server Agent job.
When I deploy the package to a 64-bit server, it runs fine when I execute the package ad hoc from SQL Server Management Studio.  However, when I schedule the package for execution as a SQL Server Agent job, the package fails with the message: "the script files failed to load."
I have reviewed posts on this error from late 2005, but the solutions don't work in this case.  Specifically:
1. The Precompile property is already set to True.
2. I have already verified that the script was compiled.
Any further suggestions?

Execute Package Task Failed When Deployed To Server..

Feb 11, 2007

Hi,

I have a package that contains an Execute Package Task... it works fine when on my local machine and on our test-server.
After deploying the SSIS solution to our customers server, I open the project in Visual Studio and run the mainPackage in debug mode and the Task fails when trying to execute the package.. if I remove everything in the childpackage it still fails... the path to the package is correct and I know that I have rigths to execut it. I do not use any package security/encryption..
If i create a new package in the project and create a new fileconnection to it the Execute Package Task executes correctly, with the exact same content as the original package...

So my guess is that something in the FileConnetion object is set wrong, but i cannot understand what it is. The errormessage i get is something like this. "Execute Package Failed. Could not execute package".

Anyone had the same problem as I? I´m grateful for any help!

How To Programmatically Detect The Failed Task After Executing The Package

Apr 27, 2007

SSIS Experts,

I am executing a child package programmatically and want few lines of code to detect cause of the failure on the fly. One way will be to run the child package through dtexec command uility. But on the fly i will be assigning few values in Parent package variable to the child variables and finally run the child package. Since we cannot apply expressions or use precendence constraints in place, It seems that we are left with only choice to programmatically detect errors in tasks. In DTS, it was achieved this way:

Code Snippet

For Each ostep In oPkg

If ostep.ExecutionResult = DTSStepExecResult_Failure Then

ProcessSubDTSPackage = DTSTaskExecResult_Failure

End If

Next

Package Failed Validation From The ExecutePackage Task Error

The first child package runs successfully, the second does not. It ran fine for days until yesterday. Not sure what I might have done. I have tried to delay validation and recreate the connection. No go. Has anyone else run into this. I am running SQL 2005 RTM and VS 2005 RTM on XP Pro SP2. Any suggestions would be welcome.

This Task Or Container Has Failed, But Because FailPackageOnFailure Property Is FALSE, The Package Will Continue.

Apr 5, 2007

This task or container has failed, but because FailPackageOnFailure property is FALSE, the package will continue. This warning is posted when the SaveCheckpoints property of the package is set to TRUE and the task or container fails.

I have just spotted the message above in one of my log files.

I've never noticed it before. Is it new in SP1? I'm guessing it must be.

If so - good job. This is a very important addition because the behaviour of checkpoints without setting FailPackageOnFailure=TRUE is not intuitive (in my opinion).

Execute Package Task Error: Failed To Decrypt Protected XML Node DTS:Password

Jun 20, 2006

I have a package (PackageA) with an Execute Package Task that execs PackageB. When I run PackageA I get this error on the Execute Package Task :

Failed to decrypt protected XML node "DTS:Password" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available.

PackageB has 'EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey' ProtectionLevel. I'm providing passwords in the dtsConfig so I'm guessing I should change it to 'DontSaveSensitive'?

Interestingly, PackageA also has 'EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey' ProtectionLevel, but I don't get an error about PackageA, just on the task that runs PackageB.

(SP1 is installed).

Creating SSIS Package Failed

Aug 6, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to create a SSIS package. I have used OLEDBSource adapter to get the source table's data and transferring the data to an OLEDBDestination adapter. I tried but I'm facing the problem in mapping the metadata contents.

My code:
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

static void Main(string[] args)

{

// Create a new package

Package package = new Package();

package.Name = "OLE DB Transfer";

// Add a Data Flow task

TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables.Add("DTS.Pipeline") as TaskHost;

taskHost.Name = "Transfer Table";

IDTSPipeline90 pipeline = taskHost.InnerObject as MainPipe;

// Get the pipeline's component metadata collection

IDTSComponentMetaDataCollection90 componentMetadataCollection = pipeline.ComponentMetaDataCollection;

// Add a new component metadata object to the data flow

IDTSComponentMetaData90 oledbSourceMetadata = componentMetadataCollection.New();

// Associate the component metadata object with the OLE DB Source Adapter

oledbSourceMetadata.ComponentClassID = "DTSAdapter.OLEDBSource";

// Instantiate the OLE DB Source adapter

IDTSDesigntimeComponent90 oledbSourceComponent = oledbSourceMetadata.Instantiate();

// Ask the component to set up its component metadata object

oledbSourceComponent.ProvideComponentProperties();

// Add an OLE DB connection manager

connectionManagerSource.Name = "OLEDBSource";

// Set the connection string

// Tell the OLE DB Source adapter to use the SQL Command access mode.

// Set up the SQL command

While debugging, I'm getting exception (ELEMENTNOTFOUND) at this line

Execution Of A Package Until It Success

Apr 29, 2008

Hello again to everyone,

Because of aleatory problems some of our Analysis Services Tasks fails and sometimes success with not know reasons. You run the task and it fails, the next time it fails, the next time is success, and so on aleatorily.

The solution of this is to put those tasks in a loop (ore someting similar) that only ends if all of the Analysis Services Tasks succeeds. If not, those tasks starts again. Do you know what I mean? How can I build this? I have investigated with checkpoints, with For Loops ... but still I dont find the way to do it.

Does anybody can help me? I suppose it's not so difficult, but I'm stuck in finding the solution...

Thankx once again.

Script Task - Set Variable Value Based On Success Or Failure

Feb 14, 2008

Please excuse my ignorance as I'm a complete noob when it comes to vb.net.

I have 2 script tasks, each connected to an upstream task via Success and Failure constraints. Each script assigns a value to a variable, depending on whether the task succeeds or fails.

My code thus far is:

Code Snippet
Public Sub Main()

Dts.Variables("strEmailBody").Value = _
"Business Model Reporintg Control Complete - Status = Success"

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub

What i want to do is use a single script task depending on the success or failure of the package, setting the variable value accordingly.

If there are no errors Then

"Success"

Else

"Failure"

I've tried

Code SnippetIF CBool(Dts.Results.Success) Then...

But whislt it compiled, didn't evaluate correctly during runtime.

Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong? Again I'm totally new to .net and I'm surprised I've gotten this far!

Thanks in advance.

Running SSIS Package From Asp.net Application Failed

Aug 11, 2006

I have an asp.net web application and a web service (both of them are created in VS 2005 - asp.net 2.0). They are located on the same web server. In both web.config files, I have set <authentication mode="Windows"/> and <identity impersonate="true"/>. Also, configured the IIS settings to use Integrated Windows Authentication and unchecked the Anonymous access (for both). The web service is called from the web app, so I have to pass credentials for authentication to the web service. The web service loads and executes a SSIS package. The package and all the other sql objects are located in the sql server 2005 (windows server 2003 - the same server as the web server).

When run the web service from develop environment (vs. 2005), I get whatever I expected. When call it from web application, however, the package failed (no error message).

In the SSIS package, there are three connection managers €“
· A: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 Ã connectionType=OleDbConnection
· B: .Net Providers SqlClient Data Provider à connection type=SqlConnection
· C: Native OLE DB Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server à connectionType=OLEDB

After ran the web application and check the sql database, I can tell that the package was reached and when through the first two steps (clear some records in table_1 and extract some records from table_2 ) which relate to the connection manager B €“ ADO.Net connection. The remaining steps failed which are related to the connection managers A & C.

From SSIS package log file, found that the user credentials (domain and username) were correctly passed from web service to sql server 2005 at the first two events, but the credentials (or operator) changed from domainABCuser123 to NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE after packageStart. Then, it complains €¦ either the user, domainABCserverName$, does not have access to the database, or the database does not exist.

I think the credentials are passed ok but some setting related to the Analysis services are not correct - complaining start from there. Any clues?

Please help and thank you all!

I then built the package and deployed it to the SSIS inside the folder "MSDB". I run the pakage in SSIS and it worked perfectly. Then I created a job in SQL Server Agent and have it run in a per-set schedule. It failed to run withthe following error:

The error mentioned the step in SSIS Package that requires to copy the backup of the OLAP database file "AS_STDM.abf" from the Source Server location (local processing server SRVSPOYDB01) to the Targer Server location (remote production server SVMPPODB01) "Svmppodb01OLAP DataSql DataBackUpAS_STDM.abf". This step worked in the SSIS(SRVSOUDB01) when executing there. Why it is not working in Sql Server Agent(SRVSOUDB01). It also works in VS 2005.

DTS Package Question: 2 Success Scenarios

Jan 25, 2006

Hi

I am writing a package that i want to have email me on two possible success scenarios.

essentially, this is the conditions:

IF @result = 0
BEGIN
EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @copyfile, NO_OUTPUT
PRINT 'Operation Successful'
END
ELSE
BEGIN
RAISERROR ('This operation failed. Error Code:01. The source and destination files are identical.', 0, 1)
END

If the first condition is met, I want to fire off an email stating success.
If the second condition is met (the RAISERROR) then i want to fire off a different email.

Now, the problem is, I am not sure how to flow it. Both conditions are successful, thus it always fires off the success email if i use an "On Success" flow.

How do i capture the RAISERROR before the email to tell it which email to send?

Does this make sense?

Force The Execution Of A Package To Success

May 22, 2008

I have an ssis package with three tasks. I want to force the execution result of the package to success all the time. I execute the package from a .net application. I tried to place my tasks in the package inside a sequence container and created a new script task which would execute when the any of the tasks in the container failed. I am setting the result of the package to success in this script task. This is not correctly working for me. Even if one task in the package failed and the last script task went to success, the .net app is receiving a failure status. Is there any way to handle this in the ssis package than in the .net app. There might be an easy way, but I am unable to find it.

Thanks in advance!!

I try and set up a package that runs other package tasks. It errors in the Package Name (..) lookup after I enter what appears to be a validate location (sql server) and connection information.

I located a post suggesting to add an mmc certificate but that did not seem to help.

I'm sort of assuming that if it was id/passwd related i'd get a more specific error..

Any info would be much appreciated...Thx Owen

Using Transaction On SSIS Package Failed On Cross Domain.

Jul 25, 2007

I want to use Transaction(MS DTC) in SSIS package across domain. It's working fine if both the servers are in Corpnet microsoft domain but failing it one of the server at extranet microsoft domain. I did all the required settings for MS DTC service to run for distrubuted transaction and in SSIS package did the "TransactionOption" property for the container object to "Required" and for all inner tasks to "Supported". Is it possible or a Security voilation which won't allow to do through SSIS package.

Example: I have a database on Extranet server and a database at Corpnet Server.

Sql Job will pull the data from Extranet Database to Corpnet database through SSIS package and update back to Extranet database. Job will reside on Corpnet server.

SSIS package is failing with the error message: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<Connection Manager name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

Any special setting do we require for this. I did the following setting on both the servers:

Ø MS DTC should run on both the servers under €œNetwork Service€?
Ø Set the following on both the servers(ExtranetCoptnet) to run on a Distributed Transaction:
§ Go to "Administrative Tools > Component Services"
§ On the left navigation tree, go to "Component Services > Computers
§ €œMy Computer" (you may need to double click and wait as some nodes
need time to expand)
§ Right click on "My Computer", select "Properties"
§ Select "MSDTC" tab
§ Click "Security Configuration"
§ Make sure you check "Network DTC Access", "Allow Remote Client",
"Allow Inbound/Outbound", "Enable TIP"
§ The service will restart

Note: If I will chage the Extranet server to Corpnet then it's working file for me.
