The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) Service Terminated With Service-specific Error 10013.

Jul 12, 2007

I have an almost virgin install of SQLExpres running on a WIN2K Pro system.

Have been able to create and connect db to Access 2000 without problem.

Now I wish to extend to remote connections. Using Surface Area Configuration tool, I changed Remote Connections to Local and Remote.

Whenever this setting contains TCP/IP and I try to restart the service I receive the following errors:

System Log:

The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service terminated with service-specific error 10013.

Application Log:

Server TCP provider failed to listen on [ 'any' <ipv4> 0]. Tcp port is already in use.

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0xa.

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x271d, status code 0x1.

Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately preceding this one in the error log.

SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.

If I change back to Local Connections Only or Local and Remote using named pipes only, the service starts up again without a problem.

After five days of investigating, researching, reinstalling and waiting I have to ask for help.

Any suggestions or leads?

Thank You in advance.

ReportServer Service Terminated Unexpectedly

Nov 14, 2007

I have been looking for some information regarding an error I have gotten several times on my production SQL Server 2000 box. Operating System is Windows Server 2003. The Reporting Services version is 8.00.878.00

Error is as follows:
The ReportServer service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The service restarts normally, or at least seems to, and Reporting Services work with no other issues. Received the error this morning (11/14); last time was on 10/31.

What can I do to prevent this from happening?

Thanks,
Cecily

An Error 1069 - )The Service Did Not Start Due To Logon Failure) Occurred While Performing This Service Operation ...

Oct 10, 2007

Hi All,

We seem to be being plagued by the error below by our SQL Server agent. This happens almost everytime we restart the server that has been running for a day or two.

Our SQL Server Agent uses a none expiring domain credential. I understand that this problem only happens when the profile being used by the SQL Servr Agent has changed (password change). What puzzles me is that the login is A ok and no changes has been made to it's password.

We always resolve this problem by changing the login used in the SQL Server Agent to local and after that, returning it back to it's original domain login. Unfortunately, we cant always do this everytime something goes wrong.

Can anyone please help us shed a light on this? We're using SQL2k with SP3a. Thanks!

Error:

An error 1069 - )The service did not start due to logon failure) occurred while performing this service operation on the SQLServerAgent service.

Joseph

What Permissions Are Required For SQL Server Service Account To Call Web Service Using CLR Integration?

May 18, 2007

Hello! I have the following problem. I developed CLR Stored Procedure "StartNotification" and deploy it on db. This sp calls external web service. Furthermore, this sp is called according with SQL Server Agent Job's schedule. On my PC SQL Server works under Local System account and this web service is called correctly (Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM). But on ther other server the following exception is raised during job running:
Date 17.04.2007 16:42:10
Log Job History (FailureNotificationJob)

Step ID 1

Job Name FailureNotificationJob
Step Name MainStep

Sql Severity 16
Sql Message ID 6522
Operator Emailed
Operator Net sent
Operator Paged
Retries Attempted 0

Message
Executed as user: CORPmssqlserver.
A .NET Framework error occurred during execution
of user defined routine or aggregate 'StartNotification':
System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type

What is the reason of this behaviour? Unfortunately I do not have direct access to this server.
I have the following guesses:
1) CORPmssqlserver may have not enough permissions to call web service
2) Something wrong with SQL Server account's permissions
2) Something wrong with SQL Server Agent account's permissions
I will take the will for the deed. Thanks.

Cross-database Stored Procedure Stops SQLEXPRESS Service

Feb 22, 2008

I've written a stored procedure that copies records from tables in one database to the same tables in another database. Here is a snippet for a single table:

delete from washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches

DBCC CHECKIDENT (washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches', RESEED, 0)

alter table washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches disable trigger tr_BATCHES_INSERT

alter table washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches disable trigger tr_BATCHES_UPDATE

insert into washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches(processorid,batchnum,processdate,transcount,batchamount,dtmCreate,dtmUpdate,keypreserve)

(select processorid,batchnum,processdate,transcount,batchamount,dtmCreate,dtmUpdate,[ID]

from washmaster.dbo.batches)

alter table washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches enable trigger tr_BATCHES_INSERT

alter table washmaster_mirror.dbo.batches enable trigger tr_BATCHES_UPDATE

This kind of block is repeated in the same stored procedure for each table. There are 20 tables populated this way. The idea is to copy records from the working (washmaster) database to a mirror (washmaster_mirror) database then back up the mirror database so I can avoid having down time during the back up process (due to database locking).

The problem I have is that the above stored procedure sometimes causes the SQLEXPRESS service to stop, thus the Sql Express connection to break. I've checked the error logs and the event log (I'm running on Windows Vista) and nothing sheds light on the issue. When I originally coded the stored procedure I surrounded it by a TRY - CATCH block, which forced it to lose the connection every time. When I eliminated the TRY - CATCH block the broken connection issue became rare, but still occurs occasionally. Any ideas why this might be occuring or what I can do to solve it?

Thanks,

SQLEXPRESS Backup File Losing NETWORK SERVICE User When Copied

Mar 11, 2008

I'm using the methods of the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo namespace within a .NET application to create a backup file from a SQLEXPRESS database. I can then restore the database from that backup device using methods in the same namespace. Here is a snippet from the restore code:

srv = New Server("MYPCSQLEXPRESS")

db = srv.Databases("washmaster")

Dim bdi As New BackupDeviceItem(BackupFileName, DeviceType.File)

Dim recoverymod As RecoveryModel

recoverymod = db.DatabaseOptions.RecoveryModel

rs.NoRecovery = False

rs.Devices.Add(bdi)

rs.Database = "washmaster"

rs.ReplaceDatabase = True

srv.KillAllProcesses("washmaster")

rs.SqlRestore(srv)

This works great as long as I used one of the backup files that I created directly on the disk. However, my application has a utility that allows the user to copy the backup files onto another drive, such as a CD or a thumb drive and when I try to restore from the copy of the backup, I get the following exception:

....Cannot open backup device..[filename]...Operating system error 5(Access is denied.)

The reason I get this error is that the "NETWORK SERVICE" account was removed from the file permissions when the file was copied.

How can I copy a backup to another drive and preserve the "NETWORK SERVICE" account? If I can't do that, is it wise to try to add the account back to the file before using it to restore or is there a better way?

Thanks,
SJonesy

It should be very helpful to be able to create a metadata databases where you could find all releations between different objects (tables,views,reports,cubes,DTS-package,Databases.

Just to get answer for: 'where is view xxx used', 'what are Report xxx depending upon'.

While everything exists in different SQL databases it should possible to do.

Conversation Handle Processed By An Activated Stored Procedure Service Can Not Be Invoked By A CLR Service Instance?

Dec 1, 2006

I have a initiator and a target service broker peer.

Both are controlled by a C# unit test. The initiator uses the Microsoft.Samples.SqlServer class. The target service uses stored procedure activation.

Sending a message from the initiator to the target, saves the content of the message, along with its conversation handle in the target's database specific table.

The unit test needs - at a later time - to instruct the target to send a message back on the same conversation handle to the initiator service.

For this the C# unit test creates a Conversation off of the saved conversation handle:

Service client = new Service("cleintservicename", conn, tran);

Conversation dialog = null;

dialog = new Conversation(client, convHandle);
Sending the message on this dialog generates an error "Message body: <Error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error"><Code>-8495</Code><Description>The conversation has already been acknowledged by another instance of this service.</Description></Error>".
Is the error due to the fact that a service - using the activated stored procedure already picked up the conversation, so that a new reference to the service can not be created through the Service class in CLR?
If so, I might need then to skip the activated stored procedure in favor or a CLR service, alltogether?
Any help - greatly appreciated.

How To Use SSMSE To Connect To Instance Service Directly (without Going Through Browser Service)?

Apr 28, 2006

I have configured an instance to use static port, say 1435, and I turned off the Browser service.

I would like to know if I can use SSMSE to connect to the instance database directly. The instance is listening at port 1435 and accepting connection requests from other methods.

What I need to put into the "Server name: " field?

Normally, it would be like: <serverIP><InstanceID> with Browser turned on.

Now how do I add the port information to it, I tried

<serverIP>:<portNumber><InstanceID>

<serverIP><InstanceID>:<portNumber>

<serverIP><InstanceID> <portNumber>

None of them worked.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Does The SSRS Web Service And Windows Service Share A Common Engine?

Sep 27, 2007

All,

I am looking at implementing some sort of throttling whereby "expensive" reports are setup as Subscriptions (and hence are run by the Windows Service), while all other requests go the Web Service.

My question is:

Do the two systems share any underlying systems? I understand (of course) that they use the same DB, etc. etc. However, I can't quite tell whether there is an underlying engine that is a common base or if they really just spin up different instances of the same objects and essentially each host the application separately?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Error Code 3417. Cannot Start Sql Server Service

Mar 14, 2008

Hi Guys

I have my Sql server 2005 running perfectly (until yesterday) on vista. But today when I tried to connect to the server I get error 3417 meaning my master database needs rebuilt or repaired.

I tried all sort of techniques I found on internet like checking if my data files in data dir are not compressed and for the SQL Server Servies it logs on local account with interact with desktop checkbox checked. But no luck.

I tried to use setup.exe in my installer CD to rebuild master database but it seems the cmd doing nothing. To rebuild, I use the following command “start /wait setup.exe /qn INSTANCENAME=<instance> REINSTALL=SQL_Engine REBUILDDATABASE=1 SAPWD=<New SA Password>. This cmd runs but due to some reason my master db is not being repaired. Ideally, I should see recent date change for this file.

Please advice how can I connect back to my server again making sure my databases are not lost.

How To Connect To Analysis Service Database Through Reporting Service?

Mar 31, 2006

Hello,

In our project, we would like to use the same data source for our analysis service database cubes and for our reporting service reports.

I created the analysis service project first, deployed successfully. When trying to setting up the data source in the report model project, I selected the "create a data source based on another object", and then selected the "create a data source based on an analysis service project". However, there is no analysis service project to select, and no browse button to see where the reporting service is looking for analysis service project either.

I have tried creating a new analysis service project with data source views, cubes, dimensions and all the stuff, but still cannot see the analysis service project in the drop down box to be selected for my reporting model project data source.

As I am fairly new to the reporting service, I'm sure I'm missing something, but couldn't find much information in the help or on the web. Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Annie

Error: SQL Server Failed To Communicate With Full-Text Service

Apr 9, 2007

Hello,
I've enabled full-text indexing on one of my tables, and the following query used to work:
SELECT *

However, now I get the following error:
Msg 9955, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
SQL server failed to communicate with Full-Text Service (msftesql). The system administrator must make sure that same service account is used for both services and the service account has the permission to auto start the full-text service.

I've checked the configuration and verified that both accounts are the same. I've restarted the services, and tried rebooting, and still no luck. I did a search on this error, and found this page from MSDN, which doesn't help me much: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337365.aspx.

In addition to SSIS not starting up, we had errors trying to launch Management Studio.

The above errors started happening after we deployed a small release that included editing the machine.config file.

To make a long story short, make sure the machine.config file is well formatted and is not missing any double quotes (") or < /> .

Hopefully this information can help someone out.

Description:
The ReportServer service was unable to log on as DOMAINTFSREPORTS with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

Service: ReportServer

This service account does not have the necessary user right "Log on as a service."

User Action

Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.

If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, a Group Policy object associated with this node might be removing the right. Check with your domain administrator to find out if this is happening.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp

I am the administrator of the machines and I can assure you that no domain policy has changed for a couple of weeks. What should I look for?

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Error When Trying To Connect From A Windows Service

Apr 10, 2007

Hi!
I understand that this topic is one of the most discussed topics ever. However i could not find the relevant information after going through (almost) all the posts so far. Hence this post. I am getting the 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied' error when I am trying to access SQL Server from a WINDOWS SERVICE. SQL Server and the Windows service are running on two different machines. (When they are on the same machine, it works). All the solutions I found so far are related to web apps. What should I do in the case of a windows service? My connection string uses SQL server authentication. (I tried with windows authentication. Its not working either.). Under what login does windows services run and how can I add it to valid SQL server logins?

SQL Server 2012 :: Full-text Filter Daemon Service Error Log

Sep 24, 2014

is there a way to turn off or reduce the logfiles of the MSSQL Full-text Filter Daemon Service?

The entries are very useless and on server with many databases and many fullindex tables it is very inefficient to write all these files (no SSD).

(SQL Server 2012 Express)
