I'm a newbie with SQL so excuse my igorance. I'm running an application that uses MSDE2000 as its source db and would like to create a small [10 field] db that would also use MSDE. I want to use a separate db though and not share the first one. What I'm looking for is suggestions on a development tool to create the database with as I'm not familiar with SQL tools. I have a lot of Access experience though so the concepts are not new.
Database requirements are pretty basic.
10 fields [8 text, 2 numeric]
A button field to Add New Record
A search field
Column sorting.
That's it. I could do this in a pinch with Access so knowing what tool to use should make it easy. Any chance that I could do it with Access and then port it to a SQL db?
I've developed years ago a small business application (about ten tables, basic relationships, 10 forms, 3 reports a few queries) with Borland Paradox7, most of it developed with wizards and little ObjectPAL coding.Old'n'crappy.Seriuosly thinking rewriting it from scratch using MS SQL server 2000 as theDB platform.Low on time.My knowledge: BASIC: good, C & C++: fair, Pascal: almost nothing;Looking for a RAD tool:- client application will be running on P4 with XP/2000 & 128MB RAM - Mustbe FAST (light .exe)- easy learning curve- Hopefully with wizard: design tables for SQL Server 2000, createrelationships, build automatically forms & reports on existing tables. Thanks
Hi, On Administrator session, I have created an CUSTOMER MSDE database. That's OK.
On user session, I want to access on my database CUSTOMER but I have on error : "Unable to connect to the database". And, in French : "Echec de la connexion de l'utilisateur Machine_Name/User_Name".
What is the error ? I don't know what to do any more. How to give right to the user ? Have you an idea ?
I have install the MSDE from Ofiice 2000 cd and my MSDE sql server is running fine that I can see from my tray bar with green arrow button. Now i want to create the database so can any body tell me how do i create database. Is there ne query analyser or enterprise manager by which I can create database. Also when i try to install starterkit it doen not allow me to install it. It ask me to select database from the dropdown list and when I select Localhost (only option available) and click on test connection it gives me error UnsuccessfullI am new at MSDN so please help me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Say an application is developed with Visual Basic using MSDE and installed on a user PC.
The MSDE databases from time to time will/may need: a. to be backed up b. to be restored c. to be shrunk d. to be integrity checked e. to be detached f. to be attached g. maybe a few more things
To provide support for these activities, it seems to me like you have the following choices: a. Build into the VB application b. Build/use SPs (stored procedures) c. Use OSQL d. Use a quasi DBA GUI tool independent of the VB application
Now it seems that building the support into the VB application is not the best choice.
Ditto on having your client use SPs and/or OSQL.
This leaves the quasi DBA GUI tool.
I am not particular keen on reinventing the wheel. Anyone know of any quasi DBA tool(s) which have already been developed? Where to find them? Their cost? Their limitations? etc.?
Hi all,I have installed MSDE on my computer but it's missing, as all you alreadyknow, a serious (well, osql IS TOO serious but not very newbie friendly)admin tool.I have downloaded http://www.asql.biz/DbaMgr.shtm and i'm quite happy withit but was wondering if there's something better or that may complete whatDbaMgr2k is missing... and preferably is as free as DbaMgr2k.Thank You,Lorenzo
SQL Server 2008 R2. SQL Server Management Studio 2016 CTP2. I am looking for a tool where I could create and save a nice graphical layout of some tables in a database and their relation to each other (how they join or connect). I get something like this in the Query Editor, where it shows the fields and joins of tables as I select them. However, I cannot save this representation to show say in a PowerPoint or Word document (Visio, etc.).
Is there a tool that would enable me to create a nice document showing my tables and their relationships, which would also allow me to annotate each table with notes about the fields, etc.?
I searched and found a reference to "Visual Database Tools" which is supposed to be part of Management Studio 2016. However, I cannot find such a set of tools listed anywhere in my menus.
I have a winform application with C# front end and sql express 05 backend.
In this database i have a table that holds manufacturer provided pricing and the manufacturers we work with update pricing constantly.
We have one table called "manufacturerpricing" which we are constantly inserting and deleting pricing records to/from to keep manufacturer pricing up to date. We may insert and delete as many as 2,000,000 records per month into this table.
This works perfectly fine and we have no problems here at all.
But with that being said, I am worried about the size of the database growing out of control due to temporary space etc. The database just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
How do I run some maintenance to keep the database size under control.
I would like to run this automatically from the C# front end so if ther is a stored proc I can call or an C# assembly I can reference that would be ideal.
1. To combine all the company's data in one large database, and use schemas and file groups to create logical and physical distribution on drives and namespaces
or
2. Distribute the data into smaller databases with related data - eg. products and product description in one db, Customers in another and orders and orderlines in a third db.
I am trying to maintain a small database on my iPAQ, can somebody tell me that would database be created in SQL Server Mobile on my iPaq and can my VB.net based Windows CE application can access data from the database on my iPAQ
Hi ng,I need some input/suggestions for a very small layout. The situation: Some groupings of thumbnails. For every picture (thumbnail)there is a "big" picture. Thats it basically :) On the front the scenario isthis:A user clicks "Autumn". The user is presented with the "Autumn" thumbnails. If he click a thumbnail, the corresponding big image is displayed. Well, uget the picture :)Hoe is this most efficiently implemented in table-layout? I mean....do Icreate a table called "images" and have a column called "is_thumb"? Or do Ibetter make 2 tables...Or better make a "relation/type" table too?--?Thanks,/Summa
I was putting a database together (its a C# application MSSQL) the application will handle a few hundred customers records and save maybe a couple of thousand word docs/images/other doc files wondered if the way to go was blob or filestream, I see the medium and larger databases seem to go for filestream but just wondered as not much mentioned about smaller dbs.I do not think security/disk space/super fast access will be a big issue.
I have a very small SSAS database with around 35 Mb. I opened it on Excel 32 bits and started dragging fields to a pivot table and it started failing with memory errors. The behavior on the SSAS server was that memory started growing very fast until 8 GB (vm memory total) and then the error is reported in excel.
What might be the issue in such a small database? I would understand in a big database, but not on this one.
Does that make sense? I have 2 tables, one is an older version, one newer. The newer version has some additional fields, indexes, etc. I'd love to have a tool to run against them that would generate an ALTER TABLE script to modify the old table so that it matches the new table.
Hi... Does anybody know of an open source script I can download that will enable me to manage an SQL database? I basically need to access and modify the database from any machine that may not have SQL Enterprise Manager Installed. I was thinking of writing my own script to do this but I assumed that there is probably already one out there.
Hi All, I installed sql server 2005 express edition beta 2. which come as part of visual studio 2005 beta 2. Please tell me which administration tool i have to use to manage my database.
I am not sure this is the right section to post this in, but ModelRight (www.modelright.com) is releasing a new version of its database design tool that supports SQS 2005/2008. I think the tool provides many advantages over the existing tools (deep SQS support, excellent UI, easy to use, etc).
Currently ModelRight is looking for SQS beta testers. If you want to participate just please go to the website and download the latest version.
When I use the sql 2005 "Database Diagrams" tool for the first time I always get the message: "The Database does not have one or more of the support objects required to use database diagramming. Do you wish to create them?"
1. Does anyone know what the " support objects" referred to are?
2. Why SQL doesn't automatically create these support objects for me? (e.g. do they require a lot of hard disk space so they shouldn't routinely be created?)
3. Is there any way to make Sql automatically create them?
If you can address any of these points I'd appreciate it.
I'm new comer , the first time to work with Ent lib , I try to use modify sql connection string using configuration application tool integrated in Visual Studio against sql server 200 , I got this error . _http://imagesshared.com/images/jdv1192388741v.JPG I don't know how to solve my problem , someone please help me to overcome this problem .

Does anyone know of a good (free) tool that will compare the structure of two databases. Something that will compare Stored Procedures and Views would be great.Thanks.
Hi, I'm looking for a tool to compare 2 sql server database and makes a script of the differences (like an added table or record). We want to use it to generate a script which we can send to our customers to update their database if a change has been made. Example: We send our customers database A. After half a a year they request some changes to be made to the application that affects the database, say a table has to be added. We want the tool to automatically detect the difference between database A when it was first released and after the changes has been made and generate a script. Anyone suggestions? T.I.A., ratjetoes.
Hi, I need software that will write a report on the following items that I can have prepared to show our auditors. Any suggestions ??? OUr databases are SQL*Server 2000, SP 3a / SP4

What tool should I use to view SQL Server Compact Edition database?
I have VS2008 Professional, but I didn't find any tool in the installation. So I tried to install the SQL Server Developer Edition, which is included in the VS2008 package, but the installation has quit saying the that there is nothing to upgrade (there is probably newer version of SQL installed by VS2008 itself).
I also tried to download and install SQL Server Managment Studio Express. The installation went well, but then I wasn't able to select any SSCE database (there was only SQL Server Express or something like that selectable).
