Transact SQL :: Conversion Failed - Int Is Incompatible With Date
Apr 21, 2015
I tried a simple declaration
declare @fromdate date
declare @todate date
set @fromdate='2011-12-01'
set @todate='2012-11-31'
print @fromdate
print @todate
Got the error as "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string." then i tried as below
declare @fromdate date
declare @todate date
set @fromdate=12-01-2011
set @todate=11-31-2012
print @fromdate
print @todate
this time got the error as ''
Msg 206, Level 16, State 2, Line 3
Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date
Msg 206, Level 16, State 2, Line 4
Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date".
I've imported a CSV file into a table in SQL Server 2012. It's a large file, 140,000+ rows, so I couldn't covert it to Excel first to preserve the date format due to Excel's row limit. In the CSV file, there were 3 column with date data in "31-Aug-09" format, and the import automatically transformed these in "31AUG09" format (varchar(50)) in SQL Server. Now I need to convert these 3 columns from varchar to datetime so I could work with them in date format.
I am new to SQL and trying my hand at what I thought would be a simple query to bring back the loan products that are not HMDA reportable - hence the NOT IN and I get an error message after adding the NOT IN...I have read a lot of responses to the issue of an error message of 'Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value' to try and solve the error - and have had no luck. Before I throw my laptop out the window..Here is the error message along with what I thought was a simple query; Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '80/10/10' to data type int.Here is the query;
SELECT P.ProductID, P.Name, PC.Name AS [Product Group], LP.Name AS [Loan Purpose], CASE WHEN LP.IsHMDAReportableFL = 0 THEN 'No' ELSE 'Yes' END AS [HMDA Reportable],
-- AssignedToTasks 32,'from (Select Distinct wft.*',' OVER(Order by task.TaskId desc)','','where IsActive=1 AND RecurrenceRule is null',0,5 Alter PROCEDURE [dbo].[AssignedToTasks]
CASE WHEN NULLIF(NHSNo2, '') IS NULL THEN 1 WHEN NULLIF(Surname, '') IS NULL THEN 2 WHEN NULLIF(Forename, '') IS NULL THEN 3 WHEN NULLIF(DOB, '') IS NULL OR DOB < '01/01/1900' THEN 4 WHEN NULLIF(AddressLine1, '') IS NULL THEN 5
[code]...
The above code worth great but ideally instead of returning a number Id like to return text for example
i am trying to run to get a list of computers from a table based on the available free space. I'd like to group them based on the available space, for example, up to 1 GB, 1-2 GB, etc.
However when i run this query, i get an error : Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '1GB To 2GB' to data type int.
conversion failed when converting date and or time from character string
I am using Sql Server 2008.(database designed for sql 2005 later moved to sql server 2008).
Pickup_time and actual_Pickup_time are varchar(5) in database.
What is wrong with this query?
Query:
SELECT COUNT(Trip_ID) AS OntimePickupCount FROM MyTABLE WHERE Start_Dt BETWEEN '01/01/2014' AND '04/30/2014' AND (DateDiff(minute, CAST (Pickup_Time AS time), CAST (Actual_Pickup AS time )) BETWEEN 0 AND 15 OR DateDiff(minute, CAST (Actual_Pickup AS time), CAST (Pickup_Time AS time) ) BETWEEN 0 AND 15) AND Actual_Pickup IS NOT NULL AND Actual_Dropoff IS NOT NULL
I have been trying to convert datetime but keep getting this error(Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string. It works just fine if I don't use execute sp_executesql,.
<code> DECLARE @tablename AS nvarchar(max) DECLARE @SQLQuery AS NVARCHAR(MAX) DECLARE @ParameterDefinition AS NVARCHAR(100) DECLARE @startdate datetime
I am trying to write a query that give me how many items were filed per year.
This is the error:
Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'YEAR(1999)' to data type int.
Here is the query I am using:
SELECT COUNT (*), CASE WHEN ChargesFiledDate > 20141231 THEN 'YEAR (2015)' WHEN ChargesFiledDate > 20131231 THEN 'YEAR (2014)' WHEN ChargesFiledDate > 20121231 THEN 'YEAR (2013)' ELSE YEAR (0000)
[Code] ...
And got the same error. I know there is probably a better way to get this data (being that I need it from 2007 to present), but don't know how to write it.
This is my code and I don't know why this error keeps coming out : PS : I did cursor to execute query.Th error showed is bold:
DECLARE RegCreatedDate CURSOR FOR SELECT DISTINCT (CONVERT(NVARCHAR,CreatedDate,103)) FROM CA_Registration WHERE Month(CreatedDate)= @paMonthIn AND YEAR(CreatedDate)=@paYearIn OPEN RegCreatedDate FETCH NEXT FROM RegCreatedDate INTO @RegCreatedDate WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
I'm trying to select only July from show_held but I keep on getting the error message saying:
Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string.
I get error message after I write this code:
ANDshow.show_held = '&July&'
As you can see from the below code, How do I select July from times_held_in_July?
SELECTevent_name, DATENAME (MONTH, show_held) AS times_held_in_July FROMevent, show WHEREevent.show_id = show.show_id
Result:

Result:

I am trying to write a stored procedure that loops through the list of user tables, gets the record count for each one and write a record to an audit table with DATE, TABLENAME, RECORDCOUNT.I keep getting an error "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string".Here is the script...
DECLARE @table nvarchar(500) DECLARE @sql nvarchar(520) DECLARE CursorSelect CURSOR FOR select table_name from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.tables where table_name not like 'sys%' order by table_name
All source and target date fields are defined as data type "smalldatetime". The "select" executes without error though when used with "insert into" it fails with the error:
Msg 295, Level 16, State 3, Line 25: Conversion failed when converting character string to small date-time data type..I am converting from a character string to smalldatetime since the source and target date columns are "smalldatetime". All other columns for the source and target are nvarchar(255). I assume there is an implicit conversion that I don't understand. In a test, I validated that all dates selected evaluate ISDATE() to 1.
USE [SCIR_DataMart_FromProd_06_20_2014] GO IF OBJECT_ID ('[SCIR_DataMart_FromProd_06_20_2014].[dbo].[IdentifierLookup]', 'U') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE [SCIR_DataMart_FromProd_06_20_2014].[dbo].[IdentifierLookup]
I'm getting this error when trying to insert data into a table.
"Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date"
This is the SQL I used to create the table:
Code: CREATE TABLE customers( customer_id int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, member_yn char(1) NOT NULL, membership_number int NOT NULL, date_became_member date NOT NULL,
[Code]....
This is the SQL I am using to add data: (Note that there are two dates in each line, scroll to the side.)
Code: INSERT INTO customers VALUES ('y', 156, 2010-08-29, 'John', 'Smith', '1235 Main Street, Dunmore, PA 18512', 6963287654, 'jsmith@hotmail.com', 1986-06-23); INSERT INTO customers VALUES ('y', 159, 04/15/2011, 'Mary', 'Jones', '235 Ardmore Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15221', 3429831594, 'jones_mary@gmail.com', 01/12/1992);
Each of the lines above to add data uses a different data format because I tried both, while commenting out the other, hoping for the problem to go away with the change in format.
Here is the SQL code to create a primary key for this table:
Code: ALTER TABLE customers ADD CONSTRAINT pk_customers PRIMARY KEY (customer_id);
SELECT TOP 1000 *... case when Rownum<= datediff(day, salesdate, baseenddate) then DATEADD(mm, RowNum, salesdate) /*error at this point*/ else 0 end as subscriptionrowdate FROM Subsrow
Rownum is an integer type. DATEADD is the part when the error is but i dont know how to convert this to int
[Source - chn_employee_vew_test_txt [1]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column 42" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".

A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
I using Locale (People's Republic of China) and code page of 936 (Simplied Chinese GBK) with header row delimiter {CR}{LF}.
I am using flat file import method.
Whenever the server process the Column 42 with value "11,Nanjing Rd.W, China" which contain 'comma' or '.' it will hit error importing with above message. When i manually change the column value to non comma or '.' (11 Nanjing Rd W China) in the flat file it is ok.
I am using SQL server 2005.
Please advise what need to be done to avoid this error ?
Thanks in advance and any idea or suggestion is very much appreciated as i have try to solve this issue for over a week but still not able to find any answer on it.

Hi, Basically the above is a very common requirement, please comment on my solution which I've arrived at by searching through the web; -
In summary I have used 3 SSIS components these are "Flat File Source", "Derived Column" and "SQL Server Destination".
1) File Connections Manager Editor 1.1) Within File Connections Manager Editor; - Name the data type e.g. "INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC" and assign a type to the data type e.g. string[DT_STR]
1.2) Click on the Preview button to ensure the expected text is assigned to the expected data type.
2.4) Select "database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP] " as Data Type.
2.5) Within the Mappings tab of the SQL Destination Editor have; - Input Column as INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE and Destination Column as INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE.
Please comment on the above, I will then pass on my suggestion to Microsoft.

I have a a table which has a column:material_desc nvarchar(255)...I am loading data using SSMS import from a csv file. While laolding a line:Concentrate of Poppy Straw (Material Specification Name)I get error: Error 0xc02020a1: Data Flow Task: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column 1" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".I though this error was because 255 size in nvarchar is 255, so I increased it to 1024, but I still got this error. I do not think error is because size of my column is small; it has to do something else. I changes Specification Name to Sprec Name, then row was loaded.
I come from Oracle background. I fail to understand reasons for trunction; is there some option to be set, but import wizard does not provide any options.
