Transact SQL :: Return One Of Two Existing Values For A Record With Same ID

Apr 28, 2015

I have been researching BOL and other online resources but cannot seem to get a definitive answer.

Current Output:
[MemberID][Category][Type]
12345ABCtest
12345XYZtest
12777ABCtest
12888FGDtest

Desired Output:
[MemberID][Category][Type]
12345ABCtest
12777ABCtest
12888FGDtest

Query:
SELECT m.MemberID,
vw.Category,
vw.Type,
FROM dbo.TestVW vw JOIN
dbo.TestMember m ON vw.MemberKey = m.MemberKey
WHERE vw.Type = 'test'
GROUP BY m.MemberID,

[Code] ...

but cannot seem to be able to return one record with its corresponding value criteria.

Transact SQL :: Return Set Of Values From SELECT As One Of Return Values From Stored Procedure

Aug 19, 2015

I have a stored procedure that selects the unique Name of an item from one table.

SELECT DISTINCT ChainName from Chains

For each ChainName, there exists 0 or more StoreNames in the Stores. I want to return the result of this select as the second field in each row of the result set.

SELECT DISTINCT StoreName FROM Stores WHERE Stores.ChainName = ChainName

Each row of the result set returned by the stored procedure would contain:

ChainName, Array of StoreNames (or comma separated strings or whatever)

How can I code a stored procedure to do this?

Transact SQL :: Use FOR XML To Return Multiple Child Records Within Each Parent Record

Aug 7, 2015

I have a single complex query.

SELECT
Col1, -- Header,
Col2, -- Header,
Col3, -- Detail
Col4, -- Detail
Col5, -- Detail
FROM
TableName;

The query repeats the Header row value for all children associated with the header.I need the output of the query in XML format such that..For every Header element in the XML, all its children should come under that header element//I am using -

SELECT
Cols
FROM
Table Names
FOR XML PATH ('Header'), root('root') , ELEMENTS XSINIL

This still repeats the header for each detail (in the XML) , but I need all children for a header under it.I basically want my output in this format -

<Header >
  <detail 1>
   </detail 1>
  <Detail 2>
  </Detail 2>
  <detail 3>
  </detail 3>
</Header>

How To Return Null Values For Non-exist Record On A Left Join Statement

Oct 16, 2004

I have table Products and Orders that has the following columns:

table Products: ProductID, ProductName
table Orders: OrderID, ProductID, OrderDate, Quantity, Price

The Orders table contains orders placed on all the dates. I want to obtain a list of orders for a particular date, if there is no order for a product on the requested date, I want to return null values for the Quantity and Price fields.

I tried the following select statement:

select Products.ProductName, Orders.Quantity, Orders.Price from Products left join Orders on Products.ProductID = Orders.ProductID where Orders.OrderDate = '10/16/2004'

Where, there are a total of three products (A,B,C) in table Products. Product-C has no order on 10/16/2004, but I want it to return :

ProductName / Quantity / Price
Product-A 5 1.89
Product-B 6 2.43
Product-C null null

Obviously, my sql statement won't work becaue the where clause will filter out Product-C.

Could anyone help me figure out how to modify my sql code to get the resultset I want?

Thanks in advance.

Transact SQL :: Return Values That Are Equal To Both Fields ONLY

May 22, 2015

Im doing a report on total sales, however my statement below will return values that are equal to both fields ONLY.For example I want to do a query using two text boxes 'from' and 'to 'and count the total sales between the product dates 'Veh_Tyres_Date' and Veh_Parts_Date and 'Veh_Tyres Price' and Veh_ Parts Price'. however it works but if for example I do a search for 01/05/2015 from 31/05/2015 it will not return anything if the second field doesnt contain a sales date between that period.

SELECT tblVehicles.Veh_Parts, tblVehicles.Veh_Parts_Date, tblVehicles.Veh_Tyres, tblVehicles.Veh_Tyres_Date
FROM tblVehicles
WHERE (((tblVehicles.Veh_Parts_Date) Between [Enter From Date] And [Enter To])

I have 2 tables each containing a material type. Table 1 contains material from their 3D application. Table 2 contains material with specific values that is not ours and we cannot rename or edit the data. I need a type of junction or mapping table that can connect the user material to the preset material. for example:

User Material = Wood-MDF
Preset Material = MDF Panel

I figured that i would make this table with 3 fields (ID, UserMaterialID, PresetMaterialID).How would i then construct a query view / Stored procedure that would return the Preset data values based on the user material id?

SQL Server 2008 :: Return From Script Instead Of Drop Existing For DDL Scripts?

Mar 25, 2015

Let's say I have a function named MyCustomFunction and I want to ensure that it exists in the database. Let's say I have a create script for the function. I want the script to be runnable multiple times if needed. A common way to do this is to check for an object_id at the top of the function like this:

IF OBJECT_ID('MyCustomFunction') IS NULL
DROP FUNCTION MyCustomFunction
GO
CREATE FUNCTION MyCustomFunction...

But is there a more elegant way to do this? For example, instead of dropping and recreating the function, is there a way to simply exit from the script and do nothing if the function already exists? Something like this:

IF OBJECT_ID('MyCustomFunction') IS NULL RETURN
GO
CREATE FUNCTION MyCustomFunction...

When i execute the query in the database1 , the query is returning rows, But when  i execute the same query in the database2, the query is not retuning rows . I know that the
no rows are returned because of missing data in the database2. But have no idea how to trace what values are missing in the database2. Please note the tables is having a huge
list of records by which manually comparison is painfull. Please consider i dont have any background idea of the values in the tables but just using it. Any help would be

Transact SQL :: CTE To Peg Char Values To Int Values In Radio-style Chart

Aug 26, 2015

I developed the following T-SQL query that runs successfully, but I was looking for a more efficient and concise way to do this. Is there a CTE that can replace all of these case statements?  I've updated my query as below. Although this sample query works, it's not working for my real data.  Instead, I get an error.  At the bottom is the error part of my real query.I copied all of the tables from the first query block below.  But when I wrote the bottom query block, it underlined in red the words "answer" and "question."  It says "Invalid column name".

if exists (select * from tempdb.dbo.sysobjects o where o.xtype in ('U') and o.id = object_id(N'tempdb..#hard_values')
) DROP TABLE #hard_values;
if exists (select * from tempdb.dbo.sysobjects o where o.xtype in ('U') and o.id = object_id(N'tempdb..#dummy_data')
) DROP TABLE #dummy_data;
if exists (select * from tempdb.dbo.sysobjects o where o.xtype in ('U') and o.id = object_id(N'tempdb..#temp')

Return Every Nth Record?

Apr 1, 2008

Is there a SQL command that returns every other result or every 3rd result. The reason being is i am using the data to plot a graph with many thousands of points, it would be useful if not every result was return. I.e. too much data to fit within the screens resolution.

SQL Server 2k And VWD - Cant Edit Existing Db Values

Mar 14, 2006

I have SQL 2000 server machine on our network.
I can connect to our existing SQL database and display data from tables etc, but when I try and edit the data using the detailsView it wont let me. No error msg, it just does not update the field.
However if I create a new record using the detailsView, I can edit it.
Its just older records that were created previously that it wont let me edit.
Is this a bug?, A compatibility issue?, Any Ideas?

Integration Services :: Check Table For Existing Record Before Data Flow Task

Jun 1, 2015

Using SSIS 2012 (within Visual Studio) on Windows 7.

Before allowing my Data Flow task to fire, I'd like to check the target table (OLE DB Destination) for a specific date value in a specific field. I've seen how the Lookup Task is commonly used to check for dupes before inserting, but I'm not able to use that method because the data value I want to search the table for is contained in a Global Variable (let's say "MyVariableDate").

Is there any way to check for any records in a target table where Date1 = MyVariableDate (i.e. scanning the entire table for any occurrence of MyVariableDate in the Date1 field)?

Transact SQL :: Creating PK On All Existing Tables Where It Does Not Exists?

May 6, 2015

I have been asked to create PK on many tables using a query on all tables where we do not have clustered indexes. Some of the tables contains PK but non-clustered. If in a table there are no PK, then how to decide on which column PK can be created? can we do it with the query without data loss and without human intervention?

Transact SQL :: Find Duplicates Within Existing Query

Nov 18, 2015

I need to make a selection on join datasets with 2 conditions and populate the results in another dataset(Report).It is working with the fist condition "AccountingTypeCharacteristicCodeId = 3"...

INSERT INTO SurveyInterface.tblLoadISFNotification (OperatingEntityNumber, SDDS, SurveyCodeId, QuestionnaireTypeCodeId, ReferencePeriod, DataReplacementIndicator, PrecontactFlag, SampledUnitPriority)
SELECT ISF.OperatingEntityNumber
       ,[SDDS]
       ,[SurveyCodeId]
       ,[QuestionnaireTypeCodeId]
       ,[ReferencePeriod]
       ,[DataReplacementIndicator]

[code]....

Know I also want to add in that new dataset(report) all the duplicates of concatenated variables

ISF.OperatingEntityNumber/ISF.QuestionnaireTypeCodeId
GROUP BY ISF.OperatingEntityNumber, ISF.QuestionnaireTypeCodeId

Return Full Max Record

Mar 24, 2008

Is there a t-sql shortcut/ quick way to return the full max record.

So basically if I had:
prog_area glh description
HS 200 health and social care
EN 300 engineering
HS 400 health care
EN 250 engineering and construction

so grouping by prog_area and taking max glh would return appropriate descriptions like:
HS 400 health care
EN 300 engineering

This is quite a simple example and I would be using it on much larger datasets. I know how to do it by doing a join to itself with max glh but it seems to me there should be an easier way to return the appropriate full record set. Hopefully somethin fast in t-sql

Transact SQL :: Inserting Exclusion Table Into Existing Code?

Sep 11, 2015

below is some code I use to identify where a patient has attended the ED department whilst also admitted as an Inpatient. This report works fine. However while most of the results are recording issues to be corrected some of them are real and as so can be excluded from the report.

Is there a way I can build in an exclusion table which would include:

SELECT
IP_ADMISSION.HeyNo AS HEYNo
,IP_ADMISSION.NHSNo2 AS NHSNo
,IP_ADMISSION.Forename AS Forename
,IP_ADMISSION.Surname AS Surname
,IP_ADMISSION.SourceAdmNatCode AS SourceAdm

Transact SQL :: Create Unique ID Based On Existing Fields

Sep 1, 2015

I have the following table (Table does not have unique key id )

Last Name     First Name         DATE        Total-Chrg

Jaime               KRiSH           5/1/2015         -4150.66
Jaime               KRiSH           5/1/2015          1043.66
Jaime               KRiSH           5/1/2015          1043.66
Jaime               KRiSH           5/1/2015           4150.66
Jaime               KRiSH           5/3/2015           4150.66
Peter                Jason            5/1/2015           321.02
Peter                Jason            5/1/2015           321.02
Peter                Jason            5/23/2015         123.02

I want the results to be in following way

Uniq ID    Last Name    First Name          DATE         Total-Chrg

1                Jaime            KRiSH                 5/1/2015     -4150.66
2                Jaime            KRiSH                 5/1/2015     1043.66
2                Jaime            KRiSH                 5/1/2015     1043.66
3                Jaime            KRiSH                 5/1/2015      4150.66
4               Jaime             KRiSH                 5/3/2015      4150.66
5               Peter              Jason                5/1/2015       321.02
6               Peter              Jason                5/1/2015       321.02
7               Peter              Jason               5/23/2015     123.02

May be we may do by dense_rank or Row_Number, but I couldn't get the exact query to produce based on the above table values.  There are some duplicates in the table(which are not duplicates as per the Business). For those duplicated Unique ID should be same(Marked in Orange Color which are duplicates).

Transact SQL :: Splitting Column Value While Keeping Existing Data

Jun 22, 2015

Currently I have a column with multiple postcodes in one value which are split with the “/” character along with the corresponding location data. What I need to do is split these postcode values into separate rows while keeping their corresponding location data.

For example
PostCode            Latitude               Longitude
66000/66100       42.696595            2.899370
20251/20270       42.196471            9.404951

Would become
PostCode            Latitude               Longitude
66000                    42.696595            2.899370
66100                    42.696595            2.899370
20251                    42.196471            9.404951
20270                    42.196471            9.404951

Transact SQL :: Getting Primary Key Values As A List Of Values

Oct 14, 2015

I am trying to audit data quality based on some defined data quality rules. The rules are stored in tables and processed using stored procedures. I am facing a problem while generating audits. Let's say I am trying to audit data in OrderDetail table. The table design is mentioned below...I inserted some sample data into the table using RedGate data generator.The audit table output I am expecting is as mentioned in the screenshot below

Its the PrimaryKeyAttributeValues column I am facing problems with. I am using STUFF function within a dynamic SQL query to get the primary key's as a list of comma separated values.
